Fedora :: Settings Not Being Saved

Jun 13, 2010

I'm new to Fedora; been using it for just a few hours. I have Fedora 10 setup on a LiveUSB and it works great. However, any setting that I make or files I save are gone when I reboot. For instance, I change the mouse cursor speed and made a "Test" word doc and saved it to the desktop. Yet when I reboot, the "Test" file is gone and does not even show as a recent document and the mouse speed setting was set back to default.Am I missing something that need to be accomplished prier to the shutdown?

Fedora :: Settings Not Saved After Reboot

May 24, 2010

I'm having a problem with the mesa-dri-drivers-experimental, I bought a new monitor, Samsung 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor (B2430H) and my old monitor was a 24 inch too but with a different native resolution, my new monitors native resolution is 1680x1050 and I try to change the settings in the system settings/ display/ size&orientation area since the mesa drivers don't have a xorg.conf but my settings don't save after a reboot. Is there a config file for the mesa-dri-drivers-experimental where I can change these settings?

Fedora :: Sound Settings Not Saved (FC15 & Gnome Shell)

Jun 23, 2011

Not sure if others have noticed this. When I go into sound settings, click the output tab, select the sound device I want to edit and change the bass levels etc, close the window and go back in all the settings are reset to default and no changes are saved.

If I leave the window open and make the changes they are reflected in VLC for example, but if I close the window it again resets to defaults and my Bass is back at Maximum....

Is this a BUG I should report or is there something I can download to get this configured elsewhere or to fix this issue? I seem to recall something similar in Fedora 14 that was fixed, but I cant remember how I did it now

Ubuntu :: Where Are Wireless Settings Saved?

May 21, 2010

For various reasons, I have reinstalled Ubuntu 10.04 three times on my laptop. The 2nd time I reinstalled it, when I would connect to a wireless network, it would say connected but the network manager icon at the top panel said disconnected. What confused me is when I booted up during the 2nd install, it connected to my wireless without a problem. Is wireless info (saved networks, etc) saved in the home directory somewhere??

I didn't have the icon problem the first time, so I thought hmm, I have my stuff backed up, let's try it again except let's format everything this time. The third time I had no issues with the icon saying disconnected. My partitions are split with /root and /home. The first 2 times, I did not format home. The third time I did. Even though the first time I didn't have this issue, I couldn't understand why it popped up the 2nd time. Now that I formatted EVERYTHING, the issue isn't there.

AKA:
1st try - no issues - did not format home.
2nd try - icon says disconnected when connected - did not format home.
3rd try - no issues - formatted everything.

Ubuntu :: Desktop Settings Not Saved / What To Do?

Jul 27, 2010

It's weird - every time I restart Ubuntu, my screen settings are at 1024x768@60Hz. When I change them to my preferred settings, this will completely destroy the order I like about my panel icons and it starts to suck.
I use an Onboard Intel graphics card.
Any advice on what to do?

OpenSUSE :: Power Management Settings Are Not Saved?

May 22, 2011

I've got openSUSE 11.4 64 bit system with stable 2.6.38 kernel and KDE 4.6.3. Problem is that when I want to change some settings in the power management (like brightness, screen energy saving time-off, display dim), they doesn't seem to save, even after the X restart and full reboot. It's seems like screen energy saving is set permanently for couple of minutes, don't matter what time do i set, it just discards my settings, even they are correctly viewed in the gui.

Ubuntu :: Screen Settings Not Saved After Reboot?

Feb 11, 2011

I know this has been covered before but I can't find a resolution to the issue. Kubuntu simply refuses to save the screen settings, and each time I reboot it returns to 1440 x 900. The correct resolution should be 1920 x 1080.

KRandr shows 1440x900 (auto) in its drop down Size field. I've set krandr to load on startup so that I can set the correct resolution but of course this means I have to set the panel size as well. I've only recently installed KUbuntu and it's great except for this issue. Surely there must be a simple fix? I'm not a noobie and have about 4 years experience on Ubuntu / openSuse etc.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Settings Are Not Saved?

May 7, 2011

I am running a dedicated audio PC (Ubuntu 10.04 on Intel Atom 525) with a Juli@ sound card. I had everything set up and working great up until I accidentally pulled the sound card out of its slot while the computer was running. After that, the computer no longer recognized the Juli@ card.

I managed to fix the basic problem by following the Comprehensive Sound Problem Solution Guide- deleting and reinstalling ALSA is what did the trick. The only problem remaining is that the computer no longer remembers the output settings in the Sound Preferences dialog. The setting stays for as long as the computer is on, but as soon as I turn it off and reboot it, the sound output setting reverts back to the internal audio. I tried 'sudo alsactl store 1', but this does not work. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Fedora :: Gnotes Are Saved Where?

Sep 6, 2011

I'm running Fedora Laughlin 14 (that may be redundant, but I'm new to Linux still) and am trying to backup some files so I can wipe and start over with a partitioned drive. The thing is, I'm having trouble with Gnote. Where do these notes get saved? I found a post saying it was /home/user/.local/share/gnote/ but I can't seem to find this folder. Unless I'm going about it in all the wrong ways, it doesn't seem to exist. Is my only choice to c/p all the notes one by one into another file type, or is there yet hope for finding the folder they're saved in?

I have the problem that Fedora doesn't save my default applications. When I change it, it does work for some time, but when I reboot it's all gone. So every time I open Chrome I have to select "Make default browser" (very annoying). It doesn't save the default settings for specific extensions neither. For example when I open a .exe file it always open with Archive Manager now while I have selected Wine as default program for that.

Fedora :: Resetting The Saved Password In Nautilus Of 11

Mar 11, 2010

I have been using Nautilus file browser in my fedora 11 desktop to browse Samba shares of our servers. Let me explain my problem.

We have two users test1 and test2 who can access Samba shares for downloading and uploading files.

test1 has read only access.
test2 has read/write access.

When I initially connected to the samba share through test1 user through Nautilus file browser I clicked on remember password.

But now when I try to access the share again, its not prompting for password. It is directly taking test1 user's password who doesn't have write access to share.

How to get the password window back to fill test2 username and password.?

Hardware :: NVIDIA Proprietary Driver - Resolution Changes Not Saved On Restart - Fedora 14

Dec 20, 2010

I recently installed Fedora 14 KDE and NVIDIA proprietary driver for GeForce FX 5200. I'm able to change the resolution to 1920x1080 (Acer H213H 21.5" lcd monitor), but when I restart the box, I lose these settings and I have to fiddle with NVIDIA and KDE monitor settings until I get the settings back.

Here is my xorg.conf file:

Code:

Is this (in)correct? What else can I try in order to keep my resolution at 1920x1080? When I restart, it reverts to 640x480.

I didn't have this problem before installing NVIDIA driver, however, I had visual anomalies and slowness in video refresh/repaint whenever moving windows. I don't want to go back to that so I'd like to see how to permanently propagate my resolution settings through reboots of this box. I've search multiple forums with no relevant hits as far as I was able to discern.

I have a triboot windows suse 11.3 stable and suse 11.3 factory pc, I would like to share the browsers and email settings between the suse stable and factory, I succeed with thunderbird and firefox moving the /home/.thunderbird and /home/.mozilla in an ext3 shared partition and linking these in the respecive /homes, I found that there isn't a /home/.chromium folder, I found probably /usr/lib64/chromium could be the same as /home/.mozilla for firefox, but I don't know if is secure or can damage my system to move this in a ext3 partition and then link this to the respective /usr/lib64/chromium, /usr/lib64/chromium has root owner, root group, visible and modifiable for root and only visible for group and other.

Ubuntu :: Change File Permission Settings To Force All Documents To Inherit Parent Document Settings?

Aug 21, 2011

i have a computer with 3 users on it, and a folder using samba that everyone on the network has access to. Lets say that, the folder is stored in /etc/sharedfolder. What happens is, when user1 puts a folder in it, then logs off, user 2 attempts to modify it and fails, because permission is set to 755, and they are not in the same group. (even if they were, it should still need to be 775) Anyway, my current solution is, every 5 minutes a crontab changes permission like so: chmod 777 -R /etc/sharedfiles && chown useradmin:superadmin -R /etc/sharedfiles Which works, but seeing as there is getting close to a gig in there, this is a bad solution, as it eats up the computers resources. Solutions that i think might work:

1) create a script that only changes permissions that need be changed.
2) change file permission settings to force all documents to inherit parent document settings

Fedora Hardware :: New Fedora User With Graphics Settings?

Nov 9, 2010

I used ubuntu for about a year, it was very good but decided to try to learn a little linux so am trying fedora. Well I just got the system installed, and apart from no flash (which I will investigate later) I have an issue with my monitor. It is not detected and has settings as such:

Monitor: Unknown
Resolution: 1280x1024
Refresh rate: 0 Hz

I know my Monitor wich is 19 inches was detected in ubuntu and had a much higher resolution. I'd like to know if this is an all or nothing thing. Meaning if my monitor shows the above settings I am stuck with it or if there is hope. I am at Fedora to lean so I am ready for a fight, but there is just no way I could use the computer as it is...

So where do I begin? Is there any way to manually in some config file put my settings which I am pretty sure I can get from the manufactures site? Or is there some type of hardware detection tool that I can download and run?
