Ubuntu Multimedia :: Skype: Split Ringing And Calls To Headphone And Main Speaker On A Laptop?

I'm running 10.04 on a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi 1505 laptop. Normally, when I plug my headphones in, all sound is diverted to them. I haven't found anything in sound preferences that changes this.(Under Sound Preferences, Output tab, there's a dropdown called Connector.It has options: "Analog Heaphones", "Analog Output" and "Analog Speakers" but they don't seem to make a difference.) I'd like to leave my headphones plugged in all day and setup my machine to play all sounds through my speakers (including Skype ringing), except Skype calls, which should play through my headphones. Skype has a feature to split the ringing and call sounds, i.e. play them on different devices, but the only option in each dropdown is "PulseAudio Server (local)".
I installed skype, and all the sound works, except for the fact that it doesn't ring when someone calls me!!! All i see is a little pop up that says someone is calling me, but I cannot hear the ringtone. When i pick up, i hear the other end clearly, there's just no ringtone with someone calls me
Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?
I am using Dell Vostro 1520 with Debian Lenny installed. My problem is that I am getting sound through both my headphone and laptop speakers. But it works fine in Windows XP.

My only glitch with Ubuntu, which runs flawlessly on this beast, otherwise.I have spent more than 50 hours on this problem. In my case, inserting headphone jack doesn't mute internal speakers. There is sound in the headphone though.alsamixer ot gnome-alsamixer doesn't even show the headphone option. Just switched my laptop from that other operating system to openSUSE11.2. Everything works great except for one odd little bug. Both my speakers and headphones have output, are affected by the volume control and it even detects when I plug in headphones and stops output to the speakers. However the moment I adjust the volume, output to my headphones stops, and my speakers start.

I fixed Skype to use the Microsoft Lifechat mic/headphones by stopping pulseaudio. All good now but none of the options in Skypes's Options->Sound Devices will get the phone to ring through the speakers. That has been an easy set up on our other machines.
8.04 LTS and Skype 2.1.0.47. Whole reason for this is send SMS in this version of Skype but not previous ... BUT, this version insists on using Pulseaudio and gives no other options in Sound Devices (dumb design idea) and I and a lot of other folk couldn't get Skype happening with Pulse ..
I've a issue on Skype 2.1 beta, my Ubuntu version is Karmic Koala. Well, my camera works perfectly in guvcview and in skype test (I already modified config.xml in my user dir to have 640x480, my cam is Ricoh r5870). OK, as soon as I start my video or I get itautomatically started it goes 320x240 and very bad. I turn it off during the call and I restart it: it works perfectly. Could I solve this issue by telling skype to open the video "just like if it were the second time" ?
I have a problem with headphone sound with my Ubuntu 10.04 on laptop Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820 TG. When I insert the headphones, the sound from speakers stop, but there is no sound in the headphones. Manipulating with the alsamixer did not help. Modifying /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf also did not help.
There`s no sound in headphone jack, if I plug a headphone nothing happens, the speaker doesn`t stop. BUT if i boot slack with the headphone plugged the opposite happens, the heaphone works but if i unplug it no sound come out from speakers.

After all that the problem continues the same. I`ve read that the alsa-driver comes with the kernel, so I have to install a knew one to get the last alsa-driver? Or just install like I did works?

All of my audio is working great now on Open Suse 11.2: MP3s, Skype,Flashplayer etc.all are working great. There is only one strange thing that is happening, when I plug in my headphones I get audio coming out of my laptop and my headphones! How can I get my audio to come out of my headphones only when I plug them in?
I have a Acer emachine E732z laptop. I have installed debian squeeze gnome, but it is unable to play audio through laptop speaker. The (3.5mm)audio jack is working fine and I can play audio through it. I have also installed Linux mint, but no audio(in speaker and audio jack). There is no such problem in Windows7.

My first idea was to try some different model names when loading the snd_hda_intel module, but after checking the alsa documentation unfortunately i didn't found this particular codec in it. How does a C program start in linux? Is main() the first function called in the a c application by kernel. I understand it is the first called function written by the application programmer, but the question is to understand the what all kernel does and what all functions it calls before calling main()
I am trying to use the video calls with skype. The person can see me but I cant see them or myself on the video call box. I have tried the download version from skype and inside my ubuntu software center and each had the same problem.
I have a really bad delay on skype. The calls start off fine, but quickly the audio falls behind. I've messed around with a bunch of different audio settings and nothing helps, only completely removes audio.

I am trying to use a program called skype call recorder to record calls on kubuntu, i've read that you need to configure skype to use alsa in the sound devices menu, but there isn't an option to use alsa in my sound devices menu, it just shows my two sound cards, whenever i try to record i just get silent audio files?
I've got a laptop running OpenSuse 11.1/KDE 4.2. I've got sound working just fine (can play music, etc), but whenever there's a system alert (like when I get a new email in Thunderbird), I hear a loud BEEP, as if it's coming from the PC speaker.
I often happen to give skype-to-landline (or skype-to-mobile) phone calls for work (calls to my boss who does not have an internet connection when in exotic places). I have an ASUS eec901 Linux version with Jolicloud installed. When I dial Skype contacts I can hear and see them but THEY just get static with no picture or audible voice. Skype informs me that I must change my settings from Pulse audio to ALSA using a program called pavucontrol. I must delete Pulse audio, but although i have tried I can see no way to do this.Pavu control does not seem to install either.
I know that we can use xvidcap or istanbul etc to record our screen casts.. but is there any software in linux which can record incoming gmail/skype voice calls??. maybe incoming gmail/skype video calls with sound also?. I dont need to record my input sound, but the incoming sound?
I am getting a high pitched ringing sound coming from my speakers and headphones on 9.10.Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this problem and how to fix it? It is really annoying after awhile and is headache inducing.I've tried switching from PulseAudio and ALSA with no changes.
Due to the fact that with pulseaudio it is impossible to change the microphone/speaker/ring devices in skype, I had to remove pulseaudio.
After that I can choose a device in skype, but the mixer does not work anymore. There is a way to have a working mixer without pulseaudio package or a way to choose audio devices in skype with pulseaudio installed?!
I cannot get sound out of the headphone port on a laptop. Headphones are plugged in, and sound comes out of the internal speakers. Windows behaves normally (sound switches to headphones when headphones are inserted).
It did work in Linux at one point, but something changed, we're just not sure what. Rebooting doesn't fix. This appears to occur whether or not PulseAudio is running. code...
This works in Windows: You plug headphones in, the internal speakers stop making noise, and noise comes out the head phones. Windows says I only have two sound cards: the HDMI port (which I don't care about) and the "sound card", which it claims is a "Conexant Pebble High Definition SmartAudio" In Windows, both the internal speakers and the headphone jack show up as one soundcard, which in my experience, is typical. (This is a laptop)
I have a Fujitsu Siemans Amilo A1630 installed with squeeze and am having problems making the headphone jack work with ALSA, there is no sound from this port and jack auto-detect does not work. All drivers are present and correct and necessary modules for my sound device appear to be loading properly, the device seems fully functional except for headphones.
I am running ubuntu 9.10, on a Lenovo laptop. Has been working perfectly until now. But now my screen is split into 6 very small screens which all work in synch. That is - I have 6 mouse pointers - it is really like having 6 very small screens. All software is still working. However - I need to go back to only one screen in full-size. Has anyone ever experienced this. Using Nvidia accelerated graphics driver.
