I recently installed Banshee and would like to set it as my default music player. Currently, when I plug in my iPod, Rythmbox auto loads and then Banshee cannot access the device. Is there a way to go about changing this setup so when I plug in the iPod, it's Banshee that loads it and not Rythmbox?

I'm sure there's a simple fix for this, but I haven't been able to locate it.
Ubuntu 10.04
I used the script mentioned here [URL] to convert some wma files to mp3 however rhythmbox will not import these. Is this to do with the way they were conveted? Is there a better way or will converting wma to mp3 always result in this? Was going to try soundconverter but I wasn't sure if this would just do the same thing.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm running Rythmbox 0.13.1 on Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition.
My problem is that edits I make to tags sometimes don't save in Rythmbox. After I make the edit and click save it appears to have changed. (IE, the genre will change or the comment section will be different.) But if I reboot Rythmbox it has reverted to its previous state.
Not sure what's going on. Is this something I should fix or should I file a bug report and wait for the next version of Rythmbox?
I have 10.04 (kernel 2.6.32-22) and have noticed that whenever i have Rhythmbox running; the keyboard stops working in any apps. As soon as I close Rhythmbox, they work again!

When I plug my iPod into the USB port, a message is prompted, which tells me it detected a digital music device and asks me to select a program to access it. Then I select "Rythmbox" and Rythmbox opens.
My iPod's name shows on the left bar, but when I select it, no songs appear, and also I can't drag songs from my library to my iPod.
I aready tried Banshee and Amrok and it didn't work on those either.
I've installed Squeeze 2.6.32-5-amd64 on my laptop (Alienware M17X R3, Intel i7 Sandybridge, ATI Technologies Inc Broadway [ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6800 Series])The screen is 17", with maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080. After a default install of the operating system, the maximum resolution I can select is 1280 x 1024.My research so far has suggested that I need to edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and provide xorg with the necessary resolution.
Again, by default, the xorg.conf file is not created. This leads me to believe that xorg is scanning my hardware at startup and providing me with whatever it thinks is appropriate. I tried following these instructions to generate an xorg.conf file. This process created an xorg.conf file under /root/.
When I copy this xorg.conf file to /etc/X11, I get a blank (i.e. black) screen. Deleting this file restores the default resolution 1280 x 1024.This system is dual booting with Windows 7. Under windows I am able to get a 1920 x 1080 resolution, so I know my hardware is up to it.At this stage I have yet to install the drivers for the Radeon graphics card. What are my options regarding configuring xorg to give me a higher screen resolution?

I have a Creative Zen Micro MP3 player (software version 2.21.02) which worked almost in a plug and play fashion with Rhythmbox (0.12) on Jaunty (9.04 / i386). Almost : I just had to make sure that Nautilus had not mounted the Zen as an external medium. Otherwise everything worked as expected.
Now I tried to reuse it on my Karmic Koala (amd64) laptop with Rhythmbox (0.12.7). I've been through several posts but nothing seem to make it work properly : If the Zen is unmounted before starting Rhythmbox it will appear in the media column and it will even show the songs; I can drag and drop songs from the Zen to the Rhythmbox Music library (very slow); but I can't play any song directly from the Zen.Any thoughts on how to get it to :
- speed up transfers between the Zen and the Music library
- play songs from the Zen
I own an ipod shuffle and in ubuntu 10.04 worked perfectly, but after upgrading (I did a fresh install) to ubuntu 10.10 rythmbox recognizes the ipod, but it can't list the items and if I try to reload the list, rhythmbox closes irremediably.

I knew it is easy to change / add , album art in any mp3 songs by dragging appropriate image file on rythmbox, it is working fine with Rythmbox but when I am playing the same song from another application like VLC,totem the album art is not showing. If I quit rythmbox ,and the song is open again in rythmbox, it sosometime showing the album art but sometime not.It is also not showing in my mobile phone.
After a little bit searching about this I came to know that EasyTag can do this,I have installed EasyTag from software centre but it remains dim with the mp3 files. how to change the album art permanently,so that the album art can see from any software and device like mobile , ipod etc.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop with a built-in webcam. I installed Cheese months ago and it worked fine then -- pics, videos, the works.
Now, after some updates recommended by Canonical, Cheese is telling me that it can't find the webcam. I tried dumping it an reinstalling, but to no avail.
Anyone out there know what's going on? Did the updates knock out a hardware driver?
I have a sony vaio laptop model VGN-S2370P with an integrated webcam. I wondered what I needed to do so that I could use the webcam. I already have Cheese installed but it cannot detect the webcam. Is there any driver I need to install or something like that? On windows everything works perfect.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed 9.04 on both two computers -- on an old PIII 667 box and on a dual core Intel (Dell).
DVDs play on the old PIII (jerky to be sure, but it's an old box with only 512 MB memory).
But the dual-core Intel does not even recognize that there is a DVD in the drive, so nothing happens after the disk is inserted and the drive activity light stops flashing. Nothing.
When we look in "Places" to see what drives appear on the Dell the hard drive icon shows up as does the optical drive icon. But clicking on that optical drive icon brings up a message that there is no media in the drive.
On the other hand, on the old PIII the DVD shows up in "Places" along side the hard drive and optical drive icons. Clicking on the DVD icon launches Movie Player (Totem) and the DVD plays.
I don't even know where to begin trouble-shooting this one so that the dual-core Dell will recognize that there is a disk in the drive and then play DVDs.
We do have libdvdcss2 on both computers.
One other item worth noting... Previously the Dell had SuSE Linux 11.1, and it did play DVDs without problem.
Is there an output file from the non-responding computer I can post to this list that would help identify what's preventing a DVD from being seen?
Ubuntu won't detect my ipod, I tried using Rhythmbox and Banshee, neither of them will detect my iPod.

I'm trying to hook up my TV to my MacBook1,1 laptop running the Lucid Lynx Beta. The TV is connected to the laptop via a mini-DVI to DVI-I adaptor, which is connected to a DVI-I to video adaptor, and this is connected to the TV via a component cable.
Under OS X, after plugging in the mini-DVI cable, the TV automatically becomes a secondary display for the laptop (extending the current screen), so from a hardware perspective everything seems ok. Under Ubuntu, plugging in the mini-DVI cable elicits no response from XRandR whatsoever (xrandr -q reports DVI1 disconnected both before and after). URandR and the regular "Detect Displays" button in the "Monitors" preference app do nothing. The laptop has an Intel GMA 950 chipset, and the Intel driver is running successfully (Compiz works fine). I have a clean xorg.conf (generated by X -configure), except for the addition of "Virtual 2048 2048" in one of the SubSections of the Screen section. I'd be happy to post the full xorg.conf if it would be useful.
So far I have tried xorg.conf tweaks, and I have followed instructions to manually tell xrandr to output to DVI1 as described in the comment by Marko Mikulicic here.
Ubuntu 8.04 used to detect my display resolutions fine, but this version is unable to detect my max. resolution and I get lock-ups when I use the live disk without the "nomodeset" option.
My display config is:

Detected resolutions (with nomodeset option):

The resolution 1152x864 is missed. This was a bug I had earlier reported on Intrepid (9.04).
