Ubuntu Multimedia :: PS3 Media Server Does Not Start Java Conflict?

I have been using this program for about 2 months now, but all of a sudden yesterday, it doesn't not show up on PS3. I check on my computer and it is frozen. I close it and try to restart. From then on, it never comes back. It seems like it wants to (the tray icon wants to appear but quickly disappears). I check on System Monitor and Java is running (when you hover over it it lists the program) but in the Waiting Channel it is the only program that says futex_wait_queue_me. It is also the 2nd highest memory user (49 MiB). I have done a lot of different things. Tried getting the latest beta release (which did make it pop up but would never start), I installed the new debian package (when it installed it said pms was already running), uninstalling and reinstalling JDK 6. Nothing works. I don't know what in the world would cause it to do this. It was like fine one minute, dead the next. I've tried other servers (Mediatomb won't let me access some of my drives and PS3 doesn't see it, I MythTV's front and backend stuff is way confusing).
As of the 1.10 X server release, the Xinerama rendering multiplexer and Composite extensions no longer conflict.[URL].. So does this mean that if I use X 1.10 or later, Xinerama and composting can work even over two GPUs and four monitors?
I'm using pulse audio sound server in opnsuse 11.3 and latest version of flash player, The problem is playing video or sound with flash player in firefox, Once I play something in firefox sound output it seem like closed to other applications like amarok.
How do I get vlc to start at a specific time in a media file. I can do it easily in mplayer2, mpv but not vlc. Let's say the media file is named abc.avi (file format,container not important for this example.) Also the running time is around 2+ hrs. In mplayer2 and mpv I can simply do :-
I just installed webmin on a server, installed successfully, i even added port 10000 into iptables for good measure, and restarted the server for good measure. I can't access the webmin page, so i tried a /etc/webmin/start and it gave the following error:
So i did a netstap -nap and found these two for port 10000
Does anyone know what I'm missing to get this going? this is my first webmin install, and i'm not having much luck
If I stop and start webmin, it starts fine, guess it starts automatically, but the page won't come up when i browse to [url]. In iptables, shown completely below, i added the line before COMMIT, is that not the correct way to add it?
I've seen Mediatomb recommended but I had trouble setting it up previously. Is there a simple solution for watching stuff on my computer on my TV via the network?
how to stream media securely over the internet from my desktop to my laptop.
I have a ton of movie and tv shows on my hard drive and instead of carrying around a backup of them on an external drive, I'd like to be able to type in a web address to view a list of files available to just stream.
I've tried on a couple of mailing lists to get a decent response, but it's been pretty shabby, so I thought I'd try the expertise of this fine community.I have a, relatively, ancient iMac G4 "Flowerpot" running Debian Testing and XFCE that I was using as a home music server. I write "was" because I could simply mount it using SSHFS from work, but now they have decided to become very restrictive with ports and for the life of me I can't get it working. I've already set-up GNUMP3D on it, but that also uses a port work won't allow.
So, in essence, I'm looking for suggestions on a Web-based application I could use to stream my music from home. Flash does not work on PPC, so anything Adobe-related is out of the question. Also, Java seems "iffy" at best... It's also worth note all of my music is in OGG format, so the program would have to be able to play said format.
i run ubuntu 9.10. i have updated all installed packages. i run a 32bit 3.6 ghz intel p4 dual core with three monitors running on two video cards. all this works correctly. i am able to play video in video player and audacious2 on any monitor.
i'm trying to run a upnp media server for my house. myself and both my tenants have playstation 3s, and i would like to host music, music videos, original content, and the backup copies of legally purchased dvds over the network. i recently converted from windows xp, and all of my media files were created by vlc on windows xp, ripped with winamp, edited and rendered with sony vegas, or downloaded from videos. i have tried both mediatomb (from the repository) and fuppes (from subversion) and had the same result with both.
basically, whenever the media center tries to populate the database and search the files, ffmpeg returns an error that crashes the media center. i do not know enough to implement better error handling in the source. both media servers, when running in the terminal, eventually return the same error message when scanning my sepearate hard drive for media. (~100gb of mp3, avi, mpeg, and mp4 files)
the process then ends.the weird thing is that this does not happen when i disable mp4 files in mediatomb (although i have not figured out how to replicate this feature in fuppes) so i have reason to believe that something in the metadata for mp4 files is throwing ffmpeg off. even if the metadata is bad in the mp4 file, it shouldn't cause a crash.
i tried to compile mediatomb without ffmpeg support, but the ./configure script returned errors whenever i tried to append an option to the configure command. i then reinstalled all the ffmpeg packages in the symantec package manager and still no luck.
I have been trying to get this setup working for a day now, I have: QNAP NAS box running Twonky 5.1.3 I can browse to it and use the web browser to see all of the media I have uploaded to it. I have a ubuntu lucid clean insalled system with rhythbox and the coherence DLNA plugin. I cannot get the rhythmbox to see the media on the server. Very briefly at one point I saw the server name appear as RB started, but it disappeared immediately. I have something like 5K songs up mostly in MP3 format.
I have been trying to find something that does this for some time now and discussions on IRC didn't turn up anything usefull - thats why this post for a prolonged discussion I have Ubuntu Server 10.4 installed (no X) and am trying to use it as an upnp media renderer. I would like to be able to playback their music on the servers soundcard from various devices. Thus it would be nice to have the ubuntu server expose an upnp media-renderer which one can use as an output device.
Is there a suggestion on which software to use? What I already have working is an upnp media-server (mediatomb) with ampache, but this isn't really what I'd like since I don't have as much disk-space on the server as I have on the various computers.
I have an Ubuntu server installation set up as a media server with Subsonic in a medium sized office environment. I allow uploads from all employees to the media folder on the server. As you can imagine, it's going to get a bit messy in there with multiple spellings of artist and album names for directory names, duplicate files, and incorrect filenames and tags. I was hoping I could find a script that I could run daily as a cron job to clean up the media drive. I would like to maintain a path similar to: /mnt/music/Artist/Album/Song.file
I need to code a media streamer in java but I found out that I would need the java media framework to simplify the task. I downloaded the bin and need to export it into the files where my jdk packages are at by default. I'd rather not set my path variables because I'm not so good at interfacing with BASH. I just want to start nautilus in sudo and drag and drop like I did with my python packages. I am just having trouble locating the jdk lib.I'm not using openjdk but sun-jdk 1.6.18. My OS is Lucid. The package is JMF2.1.1e. I'm pretty sure I just need the just the lib files from it and none of the executable.

I have an SMB service in my apartment that has all of my media files on it. When I am on Windows and OS X I use iTunes to play my music straight off of my server, no need to copy files over to a local directory. But I have been unable to do this on Kubuntu. Every media player I have used will not add the songs from the server. What iTunes style media player will play songs via an SMB server?

I figured out that this has something to do with the Java Media Framework, which is installed. So I played a little with JMStudio. But this dosen't work, too. It doesn't matter which sample rate I chose. I always receive the following message. Failed to prefetch: cannot open the audio device. The only audio device I can chose is the JavaSound audio capture. I'm logged in as root. printenv
When I use Rhythm Box for any length of time, my Ethernet connection won't work until I shut down the computer and start it up again after several minutes.
I'm running debian 2.6.32-5-amd64 and have spent an interesting day trying to get nvidia-glx running...What appears to be happening, is that installing nvidia-glx uninstalls X.I've tried various installation methods (Synaptic, apt-get, module-assistant) and the final result seems to always be /usr/bin/X not found.Re-installing X blows away nvidia-glx.The symptoms look a lot like this post: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=45188Is it possible that this problem has returned?

If it's not going to be installed, then where is the conflict? I've seen "Depends: X but it is not going to be installed", which makes sense. The only solutions are to remove xfce4-notifyd or to keep most of the KDE stuff uninstalled. apt-get also wants to remove xfce4-notifyd. Edit: Ok, it looks like both plasma-widgets-workspace and xfce4-notifyd provide notification-daemon, but I still don't understand why the aptitude error doesn't tell me that xfce4-notifyd conflicts with plasma-widgets-workspace instead of notification-daemon.

While trying to install the amazon mp3 downloader I got this package installer message : "Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libboost-filesystem1.34.1" Amazons ubuntu version of this downloader is for the 9.04 version and not the10,04 LTS which I am using.
I'm trying to setup PS3 media server on my new OpenSuse 11.2 and I'm being unable to connect to the PS3. The multimedia server seems to being working ok, only it has not appear on XMB.
I've been searching on PS3 Media Server forums and try a couple of solutions regarding /etc/hosts and adding full qualified domain name of server to it, but it doesn't seems to work.
I was able to start multiple X servers before. Now after the upgrade to rootless X, I had to add myself to the "input" group to be able to start X, but I'm unable to start 2nd X on a different vt.

I have been using bumblebee on my Optimus Laptop for a long time.I think I have this problem since the last Xorg upgrade, some months ago. The upgrade notes warned that Xorg now runs on userspace, and that configuration files are now read from the user (although I haven't noticed that).Then optirun ceased to work. As I'm using sid, I'm used to things being broken sometimes, so I simply let it go waiting for an upgrade that would fix it. Since this upgrade (either to Xorg or to bumblebee) is not coming, I have searched on the Internet, and I'm surprised that many people have had problems with bumblebee, but no one seems to be having the same exact error (see below).
I have tried everything (everything my limited knowledge and my internet searches allow me). I have tried with nvidia and nouveau drivers, but I get more or less the same result.

It seems Xorg is failing but is not giving any information about the failure, no message, which is different to the problems I have found in the Web. I have purged bumblebee packages to assure I'm using default configuration files. I have added rcutree.rcu_idle_gp_delay=1 to GRUB_ CMDLINE_ LINUX_ DEFAULT as instructed on some howtos.
I did a distribution upgrade using "apt-get dist-upgrade". After rebooting, I receive a message saying "Failed to start the X Server". I have recently moved to Fedora 8 from Ubuntu. I am trying to run a .JNLP application, for which I need Java Web Start installed. While browsing the internet I realized that I need JDK installed, onto which I will need to download Java Web Start. I could not find JDK in my package manager so I downloaded the following files manually:
I have not much had the chance to experiment with installing software using .bin and .zip packages, so any details such as which directory to copy the folder to are good.
I have headless debian as a server which i use over tightvnc server running on it. Vnc works fine but I can't for example run sudo mousepad or any other gui app from terminal, it says something about not having the rights to open it as root. I understand this has something to do with security, but my computers are behind nat so the vnc server can only be connected inside my lan so i don't mind.
