Ubuntu Multimedia :: Ffmpeg Crashes Upnp Media Server?

Apr 19, 2010

i run ubuntu 9.10. i have updated all installed packages. i run a 32bit 3.6 ghz intel p4 dual core with three monitors running on two video cards. all this works correctly. i am able to play video in video player and audacious2 on any monitor.

i'm trying to run a upnp media server for my house. myself and both my tenants have playstation 3s, and i would like to host music, music videos, original content, and the backup copies of legally purchased dvds over the network. i recently converted from windows xp, and all of my media files were created by vlc on windows xp, ripped with winamp, edited and rendered with sony vegas, or downloaded from videos. i have tried both mediatomb (from the repository) and fuppes (from subversion) and had the same result with both.

basically, whenever the media center tries to populate the database and search the files, ffmpeg returns an error that crashes the media center. i do not know enough to implement better error handling in the source. both media servers, when running in the terminal, eventually return the same error message when scanning my sepearate hard drive for media. (~100gb of mp3, avi, mpeg, and mp4 files)

error code: /build/buildd/ffmpeg-0.5+svn20090706/libavformat/mov.c:1456: mov_read_trak: assertion `st->duration % sc->time_rate == 0' failed.

the process then ends.the weird thing is that this does not happen when i disable mp4 files in mediatomb (although i have not figured out how to replicate this feature in fuppes) so i have reason to believe that something in the metadata for mp4 files is throwing ffmpeg off. even if the metadata is bad in the mp4 file, it shouldn't cause a crash.

i tried to compile mediatomb without ffmpeg support, but the ./configure script returned errors whenever i tried to append an option to the configure command. i then reinstalled all the ffmpeg packages in the symantec package manager and still no luck.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Setup 10.4 Server As An UPnP Media Renderer?

Jul 27, 2010

I have been trying to find something that does this for some time now and discussions on IRC didn't turn up anything usefull - thats why this post for a prolonged discussion I have Ubuntu Server 10.4 installed (no X) and am trying to use it as an upnp media renderer. I would like to be able to playback their music on the servers soundcard from various devices. Thus it would be nice to have the ubuntu server expose an upnp media-renderer which one can use as an output device.

Is there a suggestion on which software to use? What I already have working is an upnp media-server (mediatomb) with ampache, but this isn't really what I'd like since I don't have as much disk-space on the server as I have on the various computers.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Rhythmbox - M4a Tracks Unplayable From Upnp Server ?

Rhythmbox plays local m4a files no problem. I have a few upnp servers running on other machines around the house, mediatomb, tvmobili, vuze, mythtv. Rhythmbox is setup with the coherence plugin and happily plays mp3 from these servers but it cannot 'see' any m4a files via upnp, even though it can play the same files if i copy them to the machine that is running rhythmbox.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Dlna/upnp Server With Auto Images?

May 29, 2011

It even has a great android app. It does a great job automatically organizing all my movie and tv show files. I was though quite disappointed when i found out it didnt have upnp support anymore and therefore would not stream things to my WD TV Live, etc.

I know how to easily setup a dlna server using minidlna or ushare, but neither would automatically refresh my file listings (if you tried a cron, it would interrupt the current stream and of course I would prefer as close to real time updates as possible). It also of course didnt provide any automatic naming/organizing/images of the videos that Plex would do.

Any recommendations on what might be available out there that would provide all the features I mentioned above, but would provide the data in a more standard format like upnp/dlna instead of the proprietary format that Plex offers? I am also open to ideas that would get Plex to work with the WDTV Live.

Server :: Whats The Best 64bit UPnP And NAS Distro

Jun 2, 2011

I've got a solid PC w/Xeon dual core, 4gb RAM, and (2) 1Tb Sata HDs - looking to replace a WinXP pc that currently is running PlayOn (for media to the BD player on the TVs) and sharing folders/drives to all the PCs (WinXP, Win7, OSX, and Ubuntu.

I have tried a few distros to get media shared to the BD players, and even a Win7 - but the BD players can't seem to play any of the video files on the newer 'servers' - and only the Win7 even appears to the Sony TV in the living room (even though it can only browse the folders with video files). Another problem with the Win7 being tested for acting as a server - is the Macs cant seem to access the shares (get Access Denied errors).

Wondering if there is any good distro that is mainly setup for sharing files and storage space to all my devices. Thinking of trying FreeNAS, and seeing if I could add the UPnP/DNLA server packages to it?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Internet Streaming Media Server For Debian PPC?

Mar 17, 2010

I've tried on a couple of mailing lists to get a decent response, but it's been pretty shabby, so I thought I'd try the expertise of this fine community.I have a, relatively, ancient iMac G4 "Flowerpot" running Debian Testing and XFCE that I was using as a home music server. I write "was" because I could simply mount it using SSHFS from work, but now they have decided to become very restrictive with ports and for the life of me I can't get it working. I've already set-up GNUMP3D on it, but that also uses a port work won't allow.

So, in essence, I'm looking for suggestions on a Web-based application I could use to stream my music from home. Flash does not work on PPC, so anything Adobe-related is out of the question. Also, Java seems "iffy" at best... It's also worth note all of my music is in OGG format, so the program would have to be able to play said format.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: PS3 Media Server Does Not Start Java Conflict?

Apr 4, 2010

I have been using this program for about 2 months now, but all of a sudden yesterday, it doesn't not show up on PS3. I check on my computer and it is frozen. I close it and try to restart. From then on, it never comes back. It seems like it wants to (the tray icon wants to appear but quickly disappears). I check on System Monitor and Java is running (when you hover over it it lists the program) but in the Waiting Channel it is the only program that says futex_wait_queue_me. It is also the 2nd highest memory user (49 MiB). I have done a lot of different things. Tried getting the latest beta release (which did make it pop up but would never start), I installed the new debian package (when it installed it said pms was already running), uninstalling and reinstalling JDK 6. Nothing works. I don't know what in the world would cause it to do this. It was like fine one minute, dead the next. I've tried other servers (Mediatomb won't let me access some of my drives and PS3 doesn't see it, I MythTV's front and backend stuff is way confusing).

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Ffmpeg To Convert HD .mkv To .avi?

Jan 13, 2010

I've got a bunch of HD files in .mkv format that I want to convert to a format that the 360 will read (currently just trying .avi files) so I can stream the media to my xbox360. I'd rather avoid transcoding the entire file, so I tried unpacking the .mkv file into audio and video (and subtitle if necessary) and repacking said file into avi using ffmpeg. The repacking is where I am having the problem. Here's the commands I tried at first (it might look familiar):

Code:

mkvextract tracks file.mkv 1:temp_video.avi 2:temp_audio.ogg 3:temp_sub.srt
ffmpeg -i temp_video.avi -i temp_audio.ogg -vcodec copy file.avi

However, I keep getting this annoying error:

Code:

Error while opening codec for output stream #0.1 - maybe incorrect parameters such as bit_rate, rate, width or height Where stream #0.1 is the output audio stream to the .avi file. I think I have narrowed it down to the fact that the input streams are all 6 channel (5.1 surround sound) which mp2 doesn't support (the ffmpeg audio default) so I did this instead:

Code:

ffmpeg -i temp_video.avi -i temp_audio.ogg -vcodec copy -acodec libmp3lame file.avi

I'm still getting the same error, but when I use

Code:

ffmpeg -i temp_video.avi -i temp_audio.ogg -vcodec copy -acodec libmp3lame -ac 2 file.avi

to change the sound to stereo it works. Problem is I'd like to keep my media in surround sound. Any thoughts on how to get all 6 channels in the new mp3 file? I'm fairly certain that mp3s support 5.1. And after some messing around, I haven't found that my ffmpeg can transcode audio format from 5.1 back to 5.1. So since (I think) the 360 can play .ac3 files I decided to just copy both the video and audio file to the .avi file sans transcoding using

Code:

ffmpeg -i temp_video.avi -i temp_audio.ogg -vcodec copy -acodec copy file.avi

however now about halfway through, I run into this error:

Code:

NULL @ 0x22f3a00]error, non monotone timestamps 62562 >= 62562

av_interleaved_write_frame(): Error while opening file I can't seem to find any solution to this problem anywhere online, does anyone know how to get around this? I'd prefer to use ffmpeg for this if possible. (so I can write a script and just attack an entire directory at once) For what it's worth, I'm using the latest ffmpeg in the ubuntu (karmic) default repositories.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: MKV Conversion For PS3 Using FFMPEG?

May 27, 2010

It seems more and more people are encoding with the MKV container on bit torrent these days, and a lot of the shows I'm watching are starting to release almost exclusively with .mkv formatted videos. This is not a problem if I want to watch the shows on my computer but I've become accustomed to watching them on my PlayStation3 using my thumb drive. It seems the offical documentation for the PS3 includes a list of supported codecs [URL], but when I use FFMPEG to convert with libxvid video and aac audio in the MP4 container my PS3 says the output video is not supported. I've also tried most combinations of libxvid, libx264, mpeg4 for -vcodec and aac, libmp3lame for -acodec in several different container formats but nothing seems to work. I have found one option that always works:

Code:
ffmpeg -i inputfile.mkv -sameq -ac 2 outputfile.mpeg

I don't like doing it this way, however, as the output file is twice the size and the audio quality is terrible. If I don't reduce the audio channels to only two using -ac 2 FFMPEG throws an error (apparently MKV audio supports 6 channels). And preserving the video quality in MPEG video using -sameq produces too a large file (and I prefer to keep my files as lossless as possible). Ideally I want to save the files on an external HD I have but if a single episode of a show is 1.5 GB it's not very pratical.

Anyway, the PS3 docs say it supports h264 and xvid with aac audio, but apparently I'm doing something wrong. Has anyone sucessfully used FFMPEG to convert an MKV to MP4 for use on a PS3?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Using Ffmpeg To Convert DTS To AC3?

Jul 28, 2010

I have a .mkv container with proper video (h264/~6000kbps) and audio (DTS/1500kbps). For some reason I want to have similar quality but with another video and audio codecs. For video it goes well and ffmpeg is very helpful here, no problems. Also, I want DTS to become AC3/320-448kbps/5-6 channels. Commands like this:

Quote:

ffmpeg -i in.dts/mkv -acodec ac3 -ac 5 -ab 448k out.ac3

gives me not proper reordered sound in channels, so I hear center on the right, music on the left, etc.

Is there a way to make that properly with ffmpeg?

Also, I have a question about multi core encoding cause I have a quad processor. Ffmpeg seems not using them in all the way, I get something like 25% of CPU usage while encoding. Command -threads, even using the h264, does not make any extra load of cpu.
