General :: Internet Connection Sharing - All Traffic From The Ethernet Connection Out Through The Wireless
Jun 25, 2010I would like to have all traffic from the ethernet connection out through the wireless (basically using the box as a router) however I am having some trouble doing this.
I have done this before on Windows however I am having some trouble doing this on linux, I have tried using Squid Proxy however I am having some trouble using configuring/using it.
I am using Yellow Dog Linux however I am willing to change to any other distro as long as it is compatable with PS3 (as this is what im using linux on)

Jan 31, 2011Whenever I plug my Zune in, Rhythmbox recognizes all the songs on it but when I doubleclick on a song to play it, the song doesn't play and Rhythmbox quits. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I'm running a Dell XPS 410 with 4GB RAM and a 1.75 GHz processor.Also, I imported a CD and it plays fine.

Apr 4, 2010I have been using this program for about 2 months now, but all of a sudden yesterday, it doesn't not show up on PS3. I check on my computer and it is frozen. I close it and try to restart. From then on, it never comes back. It seems like it wants to (the tray icon wants to appear but quickly disappears). I check on System Monitor and Java is running (when you hover over it it lists the program) but in the Waiting Channel it is the only program that says futex_wait_queue_me. It is also the 2nd highest memory user (49 MiB). I have done a lot of different things. Tried getting the latest beta release (which did make it pop up but would never start), I installed the new debian package (when it installed it said pms was already running), uninstalling and reinstalling JDK 6. Nothing works. I don't know what in the world would cause it to do this. It was like fine one minute, dead the next. I've tried other servers (Mediatomb won't let me access some of my drives and PS3 doesn't see it, I MythTV's front and backend stuff is way confusing).

Jun 19, 2011I'm running debian 2.6.32-5-amd64 and have spent an interesting day trying to get nvidia-glx running...What appears to be happening, is that installing nvidia-glx uninstalls X.I've tried various installation methods (Synaptic, apt-get, module-assistant) and the final result seems to always be /usr/bin/X not found.Re-installing X blows away nvidia-glx.The symptoms look a lot like this post: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=45188Is it possible that this problem has returned?

If it's not going to be installed, then where is the conflict? I've seen "Depends: X but it is not going to be installed", which makes sense. The only solutions are to remove xfce4-notifyd or to keep most of the KDE stuff uninstalled. apt-get also wants to remove xfce4-notifyd. Edit: Ok, it looks like both plasma-widgets-workspace and xfce4-notifyd provide notification-daemon, but I still don't understand why the aptitude error doesn't tell me that xfce4-notifyd conflicts with plasma-widgets-workspace instead of notification-daemon.

May 11, 2010I installed 10.04 today, and I can't get any connection through the LAN. I've tried some stuff on my own, but I've been unsuccessful so far. It's not a hardware or connection issue, as it works perfectly fine in Windows 7. I haven't had this issue in any previous version of Ubuntu (or any Linux distro for that matter).The weirdest part is I booted from the installation CD as as LiveCD, and everything worked perfectly fine. It only stops working after I actually install it. Here's the results of ifconfig:

Feb 9, 2011I have a 64bits laptop with dual boot (Vista + Ubuntu 9.10) and nVidia chipset. Earlier, I could connect to internet using both the OSs. But now, when I insert the network cable (RJ-45) in the network port, neither of the OSs recognises the network cable. When I click (left click) the network icon in ubuntu (in the right top corner of the desktop), it does not show any available ethernet connection.
I checked in BIOS also there is no mention of network card. Following are the details of the laptop:

Jul 23, 2010i've just got a new broadband/wireless connection from Virgin Media and am trying to get this very old laptop online. in the past, cable connections have been easy, and wireless has given issues, but this time its the opposite. so, i have a new cable connection that is all plugged in. called customer support, they have no support for linux as usual, but they 'manually activated' the modem and thats all they can do. i am not trying to setup the wireless network yet, i'll do that with a pc later, for now i just want to plug in and go. on Network Settings, i have set the wired connection to dhcp. thats what i've done before ... not sure if i need to get static addresses from the ISP? i can go online now using the erratic but generous neighborhood free wireless.

Ubuntu Networking :: No Ethernet Connection After Restart From Hibernation
May 7, 2010Following upgrading my 09.04 partition to 09.10 then 10.04, all was working fine until I tried hibernate out for the first time - big mistake! If I can get to a position where i can log on to the system, I find that my ethernet network connection is disabled and I cannot get it to restart. My 09.10 system still works ok. I am tempted to do a clean install of 10.04, even though I'll have to spend some time reloading the extra's and re-configuring.

I did setup a m0n0wall box just to try. I got the network led on my server to light up in my room but nothing more than that. Lastly, I tried adding a 5 port switch in my room and then connecting that to my server and nada.

Aug 5, 2011After some fiddling around, I have come to the conclusion my current wifi access point hates my other computer's Broadcom chip or the drivers thereof. So, my current idea is as follows. I would like to use my netbook to connect to the wireless network, and then connect my other computer to it through ethernet. My netbook is dual boot XP and Ubuntu (think Ubuntu is a version behind) and I would be fine to set up this sharing in either and just leave it on as a repeater station. My other computer is dual boot XP and Fedora and I would prefer this work to allow me to have network in both. I have a straight-through cable and have verified that my network card supports the automatic crossing over behavior.

Aug 9, 2011I just upgraded my Ubuntu Server from 10.04 to 11.04. I am having issues with the ethernet connection upon boot. The connection will blink slowly and not stay connected to the network. If I then unplug the ethernet from the switch and then replug it in, eth0 will get a steady connection, at which point I have to run the following command to get everything working.

Aug 19, 2011So I have been struggling to make this happen for a bit and cannot figure it out. I want to communicate directly from my non-GUI Debian to my Puppy Linux PC. I have set up my Puppy PC for direct connection as per the instructions in the network wizard. I need to set up my Debian to do the same.
I have done the
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.0.100
netmask 255.255.255.0
in /etc/network/interfaces.
I still cannot ping the Debian machine from the Puppy one. Are there any other steps to the direct connection? (I already have the crossover cable in place)
I have also tried this with both PCs connected to a Netgear router. I CAN connect to the debian machine if it is on the router at the IP I assigned it and the Puppy PC is configured to use the router.
Is there a file I can edit or a process I can turn off? I think it's close I am just not sure what I am missing.

Jun 15, 2010I purchased an EeePc 900HD (ASUS). Installed EeeBuntu_3.0 when I run "lshw -c network". I got a "DISABLE" status for my ethernet connection. In this forum I read that I need to run:
"ifconfig *logical_hardware_name* up"
The "DISABLE" status is gone but still no ethernet connection in the Gnome-NetworkManager.
