When i have enable xinerama for 2 displays and i enable visual effect it says The "Composite extension is not available" but i have enabled it in "xorg.conf" but effect are working with not enabled xinerama.

During my research on enabling composite effects and xinerama, I stumbled upon a few threads and discussions which showed xserver 1.10+ has resolved the conflicts between the 2 modules. I'm wondering if anyone knows of someone/somewhere to get a SUSE compatible build of xserver 1.10+ ? If not, could someone point me toward an easy-to-follow tutorial on how to build packages for SUSE?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an ATI Radeon HD 3300 on-board video chipset, and an ATI Radeon HD 4350 PCI card. What I want is to have both displays available from one mouse/keyboard. I want to play media on one and have the other as my main desktop.The problem is that with Xinerama enabled, KDE desktop effects do not work (KDE says XComposite and XDamage are not available, even though I explicitly enabled them as extensions in the xorg.conf file), and performance is quite bad. Without Xinerama enabled, performance is great, desktop effects work great, but there's a lot of trouble with full-screen video, and the KWin window manager does not apply in the second display (although I can run a second instance of KWin on :0.1).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using this program for about 2 months now, but all of a sudden yesterday, it doesn't not show up on PS3. I check on my computer and it is frozen. I close it and try to restart. From then on, it never comes back. It seems like it wants to (the tray icon wants to appear but quickly disappears). I check on System Monitor and Java is running (when you hover over it it lists the program) but in the Waiting Channel it is the only program that says futex_wait_queue_me. It is also the 2nd highest memory user (49 MiB). I have done a lot of different things. Tried getting the latest beta release (which did make it pop up but would never start), I installed the new debian package (when it installed it said pms was already running), uninstalling and reinstalling JDK 6. Nothing works. I don't know what in the world would cause it to do this. It was like fine one minute, dead the next. I've tried other servers (Mediatomb won't let me access some of my drives and PS3 doesn't see it, I MythTV's front and backend stuff is way confusing).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like to adjust Xinerama to place 1 desktop on each of my 2 monitors and not stretch a single over both. With the current set up there is a problem with window placement upon opening new widows or context dialog boxes. I realize that I could adjust placement properties and select window placement with the mouse but this is still lacking in productivity. My monitors are not next to on another so this is more of a problem than it seems.

My video I want the watermark over is a kino captured file which is dv avi type 2 (open dml).I have done Bluescreen video effect along with the composite transition but the video clip which the video watermark plays on top of ends up getting darker. for the bluescreen color i have chosen red which is the closest red i could pick next to the spinning logo. the lighting changes on it and gives it an undesirable effect as far as how dark it it. i tried other colors but then the logo either disappears or the spinning logos black video background covers up my video. the reason for my "video" watermark is because it is a spinning logo (not a picture) which can be obtained in .mp4 format here:[url]
My goal is to put that on top of some xbox 360 modern warfare 2 gameplay. i haven't uploaded an example of how dark it makes the footage look yet but it does.
After working on trying to get my 3 monitors to work with Ubuntu 10.4 and my ATI Radeon HD3200 (IGP) and HD4850 cards, I just had to share the xorg.conf. I am using the default open source drivers that came with 10.4 and I kept KMS enabled (it wouldn't work without it).

I have done a fresh install of ubuntu 11.04. Everything is fine, Ubuntu seemed to be using the opensource ati drivers upon first boot.
Then prompted that I install the ati catalyst control center/drivers from additional drivers which I did.Again smooth sailing untill I decided to enable my HD tv (hdmi) as my secondary screen. This again worked fine cloned. But I could not enable extended. The option is available but requires xinerama to be enabled.
After restarting I could not login. Read up on this and others have has this issue with different cards. I proceeded to login to ubuntu (no effects) session and then swtiched off xinerama. (this did work in this session). The issue is getting it to work with unity. Logged back into unity now but I don't know how I can enable dual screens in extended mode. There are recomendations on other threads advising to use the open source drivers. But these don't work correctly. The card I am using is an ASUS EAH5570. This I believe has the radeon 5570 chip.
I use 2 monitors under Ubuntu 9.10, but I have them set up in a unique way. The primary (CRT) faces me on my desk, but the other (widescreen LCD) is turned away from me, because I use it only to watch movies from my couch. My video card is an Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+, using the proprietary Nvidia driver package, with Xinerama turned on, so the desktop extends across both displays. Given that setup, is there any way to control which display applications open upon? Several apps have started opening on one display or the other, seemingly at random. Further, some apps start on the primary display, but open their subwindows on the secondary display. It's very annoying, because I can't see the second screen, so I can't drag the windows back to the primary desktop.
I would also like to have VLC Media Player (or any other app) always open on the secondary screen, on purpose. I almost never watch movies sitting at my desk, but rather from the couch. I placed a VLC launcher icon on the secondary screen, but when started it opens on the primary display. (If you're wondering how I can click on anything from my couch, I have a wireless mouse there in addition to the wired mouse at my desk. It's my "remote" since I don't have a TV. Xorg will quite happily support 2 or more mice simultaneously, I discovered.)
I have a ASRock ION 330 with 512 Mbyte shared graphics memory. I use the 256.44 closed source nvidia drivers and have a Xinerama display consisting of one Asus 1440x900 monitor and one video projector with displaysize of 1280x720. Display: 1440x900 + 1280x720 in Xinerama
I have tried with and without desktop effects enabled, and I have followed the http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2009/0...thout-tearing/ guide to manually set the refresh rate to 60 Hz. The sync to Vblank option is checked, both in CCSM and nvidia-settings under X Server Xvideo Settings and under OpenGL Settings, to no avail.
The files I play are MPEG-2 Transport Stream in 720p. Some are and some are not in Matroska containers. I use SMplayer with vdpau enabled. I've made a comparison of Windows Vista and Ubuntu 10.04 below:[URL].. It's not entirely clear from the video, but the end scroller is choppy on Ubuntu and relatively smooth in Windows Vista.
This setup is to be run in a public cinema, and the chopping and tearing is a complete showstopper. It would be a nice showcase to have Ubuntu in the wild like this, but it can't be used if these issues are not resolved.
I am running a multi monitor setup with xinerama, and everything works great except when I try to play an FPS such as OpenArena. The mouse doesn't work, it gets stuck to the screen edge.
View 6 Replies View RelatedUPDATE: I can get the wrapping to stop, but it offsets the image between monitors. It's like the center monitor's image was stretched upward, distorting the alignment with the side monitors, rather than just providing additional space at the top. If I switch it so the two side monitors are 120px lower than the center, (as i had it in 9.04) then the wrapping issue occurs again. This is frustrating. I could use some help. (64-bit Ubuntu 10.04)
After lots, and lots, and lots of googling, configuring, experimentation, and even unplugging and replugging, I finally got all 3 monitors working like I had them in 9.04... Or almost. The center monitor is larger than the two side monitors, being 1920x1200 compared to 1920x1080. When I move the mouse pointer on the center monitor, it hits a ceiling and disappears right around that extra 120 pixel area on top, and can be seen at the bottom of the screen.

If it's not going to be installed, then where is the conflict? I've seen "Depends: X but it is not going to be installed", which makes sense. The only solutions are to remove xfce4-notifyd or to keep most of the KDE stuff uninstalled. apt-get also wants to remove xfce4-notifyd. Edit: Ok, it looks like both plasma-widgets-workspace and xfce4-notifyd provide notification-daemon, but I still don't understand why the aptitude error doesn't tell me that xfce4-notifyd conflicts with plasma-widgets-workspace instead of notification-daemon.

I have 2 nVidia Corporation G96 [GeForce 9400 GT] Graphics Cards and 2 LG Monitors. I installed the nVidia drivers from the website and everything is working very well. Using Xinerama to extend my desktop.
The problem comes in when I add an additional user to the system. It doesn't matter if it's 1 or 2 users, if they are added into the administrator group or as a desktop user, I can delete re-add them, create a completely different user but the problem persists.
As soon as I login as the new user and go to System | Preferences | Appearance | Visual Effects and try and enable either 'Normal' or Extra' I get the following error;
"The Composite Extension is not Available"
This is strange to me because composite, everything, is working fine for the default user, I have no problems whatsoever, but any additional user I setup it seems the graphics is borked, like it's not picking up the correct drivers or something.
I did a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 except for the /home partition. I have two monitors. I can't get the setup I had on 9.10 where the second monitor was an extension of the first, and extra visual effects were enabled.

I set the each monitor to be a separate X screen, enable Xinerama (I think that's what I need for the extended display), and clicked Save to X Configuration File. Sometimes I merge it with the existing file. At this point I restart and the error, "The Composite extension is not available" is displayed when I try to enable extra visual effects.

the above xorg gets my flawless playback in xbmc (xbox media center) or 1080 movies.
In the composite of the effect desktop I can to use only xrender, just select opengl, I did not make use, why ?

xdpyinfo -ext XINERAMA
Xlib: extension "XINERAMA" missing on display ":0.0".
XINERAMA extension not supported by server
I am using the latest version of x11vnc which says XINERAMA is on by default. I have tried xf4vnc as well and get the same issue.

I get a screen that looks like xinerama and windows pass from display to display fine, however xdpyinfo says otherwise and we have software that looks to xdpyinfo to get information about how display guis. When x11vnc was compiled it said it found libXinerama. Not sure what is going on. Does vncviewer need to support xinerama as well? Is there any way to tell if vncviewer does without downloading a newer or different version?
I am running an application that requires use of my /etc/hosts file. In it, I have my machine name and its LAN ip address. The program creates a service on a specific port, then attempts to connect to it based on the host name. So my hosts file has to be correct.I added the nameservers to resolv.conf and now my application will not run. My guess is that the computer is checking the name servers first, timing out then checking the hosts file.Is there a way I can tell the system to check the hosts file first, then DNS. I thought it should behave that way by default, but it does not appear to.

It is designed wo that you never need to add a monitor or keyboard as it is administered through a web interface. Recently it had a problem with the motherboard and I had to replace it, but the machine is now working. However, it no longer is visible as a network drive on my Windows machine.Unfortunately I have no idea where to start looking to see what the problem is. I did attach a keyboard and monitor and logged on, but everything looks okay (I can see my files, etc.).
This is an old machine (c. 2003), so has an old version of Linux (I have no idea what version, or even how to find out). Since it is never meant to be used directly it doesn't have any GUI installed, so I have to do everything using command line.Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can even start to determine what the problem is or how I can go about trying to fix it? At this point I would be happy just to get the files out and replace it with a newer NAS.

How do I find this "trojan" and remove it???? I have a network of 6 computers right now, 5 are running Ubuntu (3 server and 2 Desktop versions) and one windows computer. I have run a virus scan in the windows computer and found nothing. How can I scan a linux computer for a virus?
I am almost tempted to go back to an old slackware to try this. Anyway, I found a circuit (with just a few resistors) that allows vga output to go to composite input. To my amazement it actually works and it is very clear, but has a double screen. I am told, to fix it you need to change the horizontal sync and or refresh rate for the card. (17 instead of 35). How would I do this in xorg.conf?
