Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound Devices Found / Get That?
Feb 25, 2010
Up until about a week ago using Kubuntu 9.10, the sound on this computer was fine, but now every day when I turn the computer on I have no sound and I get a notification from Phonon saying:
The audio playback device NVidia (ALC883) does not work.
Falling back to.
If I turn the computer off and then back on, sound is working again. code...

I have been trying to get this web cam working for a long time. lsusb:

Code:

Cheese simply says no camera found. Skryba says no devices found. Since this kernel patch was 2009-04-07 which is nearly a year ago it should be in latest kernel?

I just attempted to purge and reinstall ALSA (and all of it's related packages/utils) after disabling the on-board sound in an effort to use only an M-Audio Delta 1010 as the sole sound device. I've also tried to reinstall Envy24, as well as drivers for the ICE1712 chip... Now,I have no sound devices. alsamixer tells me there is such file or directory. When I go to /proc there isn't even an asoundrc file there.
I don't know what to do. I've spent the last 4 hours looking for a fix, and trying all sorts of things, even the comprehensive sound troubleshooting guide on this forum. Nothing. I got absolutely nothing. Everything goes exactly as the guide states, except after rebooting, and trying aplay -l and alsamixer, it says there's nothing installed?I have to have a sound, this machine is a DAW .End result I'm looking for is to use the Delta 1010 as the ONLY sound device.

Im running Ubuntu 10.10 and a couple of days ago, my usb sound deviced stopped working, possibly because of a recent update, as I didn't change something on my system as far as I can recall. My internal sound card still works just fine whatsoever, but my external devices,
E-MU 0202 USB
Logitech USB Headset
which also used to work flawlessly in the past, don't play audio anymore.Although they are still detected and selectable in the PulseAudio Volume Control.I can exclude hardware problems because everything is fine in WinXP.

Rhythmbox plays some music (not all of it) and it sounds crappy. And when I start Amarok I get this: KDE detected that one or more internal sound devices were removed. Do you want KDE to permanently forget about these devices? This is the list of devices KDE thinks can be removed: Output: HDA Intel (INTEL HDMI) Output: HDA Intel, INTEL HDMI (HDMI Audio Output)What to do?

I'm brand new to debian and quite new to unix based systems in general.
I just switched to debian from ubuntu in search of something different and I want to find a system that works for me before I settle down.
I DO NOT HAVE A SECONDARY OS
just two problems I have with debian:
No sound
Error message: No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found.
When I try to open sound from the speaker icon at top right.
I think it's a driver issue but Its not as easy as ubuntu was lspci:
My trackpad also does not work so I have to open documents manually if I don't bring my mouse to class.

I followed this tutorial: [URL]... I followed it on my ubuntu system to get my 2 x M-AUDIO Delta 1010s working. My deltas are now detected. And apparently it's all ok. However when I try and open Ardour (which I installed from the repos), I get: Quote: [ERROR]: No devices found for driver "OSS". My graphics cards aren't attached to their break out boxes. Could this be why? For that same reason, I can't test to see if the audio is coming out. All I know is that Ardour can't find a device.

I have tried many, many things to try to get the sound card recognized since upgrading from Mint 8 to Mint 9, and have still been unsuccessful...all modules and up to date and alsa was rebuilt this morning (to insure I didn't mess something up with my prior attempts to resolve). I have only been using Linux for about a month now, and really don't want to have to go back to Windows
Here is a link to my latest hardware and troubleshooting info:

Can someone on this forum please assist?

Recently I have started using my netbook (Acer Aspire one D250) alot more due to travelling and I noticed that the mic didn't work. Headed to the Ubuntu forums and saw a thread about installing ALSA. So I did and now I have no sound. From what I can tell ubuntu is no longer picking up my sound devices but I'm sure. Hence why I am here. I need to get my sound working again (obviously) and then in turn get my mic working for mumble and other VOIP programs.

New Ubuntu installation with a big problem: no sound.
OS: Ubuntu 10.4.1
Hardware: HP Pavilion Elite e9150t (64 bit)
Sound card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio
Preliminary checks of sound level settings and obvious dumb stuff but there is still no sound. The problem seems to be that the system does not recognize the existence of the sound card and insists on using alternative audio devices.

I encounter many problems, the most pressing now is the lack of my Ubunto-PC to make use of my M-Audio Delta 1010 LT Soundcard. I installed ALSA package yesterday, but there's still no sign of my Soundcard to be found. sudo aplay -l delivers: aplay: device_list:223: keine Soundkarten gefunden ... (no soundcards found)

I just installed skype 2.1 beta 2 (the deb file) from the skype website, but the only option I see under Sound Devices -> Recording is "PulseAudio Server (local)" This doesn't work for me, as the skype test calls don't actually record anything I say. I use skype a lot and FINALLY got it working under karmic, but I needed to upgrade to lucid and now it's broken.
When I open Sound preferences and look at the Applications section, Skype shows up as recording when I run its test call... but no sound is recorded? How is it possible that my sound card picks up something recording but doesn't actually record it when I'm in skype?

I have OPENsuse 11.4 64 bit. I installed 3.11.7 and performed hp-check -t and no problems were reported; yet I cannot seem to configure my HP printer. I work through hp-setup, following the instructions; it recognizes my network, recognizes the printer, says that it's managed to configure it, asks me to remove the usb connection and offers me the 'finish' button. When I click on the finish button it automatically pops up the the message 'no installed hp devices found' - the point where I started!
I am a member of groups sys and lp - hp-setup automatically configured this. Attached is the output from hp-check -t...

While installing Fedora 12, no devices were found on which to create file system (see attch.). I get the same message either on Live CD or DVD boot start. It looks like Fedora do not see my hdd. But Palimpsest can see my hard drive (see attch.)
Hdd is on my NForce 4 Ultra m/board and connected via "sata". Also I have raid controller on my board. But it is not in use: I turned it off in bios.

It's been years since I've set up a Linux machine and I am getting a "no valid devices were found on which to create new filesystems" during a Centos install on a Asus P5BV-C/4L motherboard. I am assuming that there is a raid driver that needs to be installed, but when I went to the asus download site, selected linux/P5BV-C/4L and downloaded all of the available drivers, I keep getting errors saying "Driver disk is invalid for this release of Centos".
I take the zip file, extract it down to the .img file, burn it to disk and try to load it after running a "linux dd". Is this the correct way of doing it? Am I using the correct file?

Why is it that FC6 installs just fine from a USB CDROM in an external enclosure but FC12 boots from the CD asks to install or upgrade an existing system but then stops at no devices found and wants the install path for the install image? It appears to see the CDROM, boots then looses its mind and forgets a CDROM was attached.

I use Kubuntu 9.10 on my desktop and UNR 9.10 on my netbook... both worked just fine before(with every version of Ubuntu since 8.04), but I didn't use them for a little while with 9.10 and nothing from either of them... Logitech USB headset and the IPV Free2 USB phone.... granted I couldn't use all the features with the Free2 phone before but I could still use it to talk with skype. When I go to sound devices in skype, they are both recognized by the system... but just will not work no matter what.

On my desktop computer (now running the very impressive Slackware64 13.37 and generic kernel), I've got what Alsa considers 4 different sound devices:
Logitech USB headset
Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 with built-in microphone
ATI HD48x0 audio (which uses the HDA-Intel driver) on my graphics card
Intel 82801JI audio (also using HDA-Intel driver) on my motherboard
When I run alsaconf, it picks up the ATI audio only (which is fine). Later running alsamixer (or any other mixer) all 4 are visible. The issue is that I really would like the ATI audo to be in position 0. Previous to Slackware 13.37, setting up the device positions in /etc/modprobe.d/sound usually did the trick. However, that is now being ignored and one the USB devices are being put in position 0 regardless of what is in sound.conf. This is driving me nuts as a lot of software simply use the default audio device, which I would like to be my speakers, but is now my USB headset.
All of the googling I've done points towards messing with the /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf file, but as I said, that is being ignored. Is there a more 13.37 way to have ALSA order the audio devices the way I want?

Code:

.
Its not only this, but there is no other sounds enabled - for mouse clicks etc
