Having an issue with A2DP in Maverick.
Whenever I connect my headset, both 'Headset Service' and 'Audio Sink' are shown as being connected. I'm only getting mono audio.
I tried clicking disconnect on 'Headset Service' but it disconnect both. Selecting connect on 'Audio Sink' also connect 'both' and gives mono output.
Using Kubuntu Maverick. It's probably all my fault but I cannot get CD's to play.
Amarok: for the life of me, I cannot understand how to get CDs to play. In Lucid Lynx CD playing was unusable because it would crash by the second or third song; now, I cannot even get the program to start playing my CD.
KsCD: worked in Lucid Lynx, crashes in Maverick.
KPlayer: it does play the CD, but it does so jerkily, that is, it stops every 10-15 seconds. Unusable.
Kubuntu is not a crappy OS that cannot even play a CD.
So I've searched all over the web and followed every bit of instruction that I could. I get bluetooth manager to detect my phone and it pairs up without any problem. Even when I set it up to connect to play streaming music from the phone it links up but I hear nothing from the speakers. Of course, in pulseaudio I do see "Internet Phone", but there's no way I can edit it. And whenever I try to do this step, I get a failure

I have a bluetooth headset with both support of HSP/HFP and A2DP. My goal is to connect this headset to my cell phone (over HSP/HFP) and to the PC (over A2DP) simultaneously, but ubuntu always connects both profiles.

I swapped out the hard drive on my laptop for a bigger one and put Kubuntu 10.10 on it back in March. The one big complaint I have is that it has a ridiculously slow boot time in comparison to Ubuntu 10.04. I have since installed most of the Gnome Ubuntu desktop through the repos and switched from kdm to gdm but I still have this relatively long period of blank screen with cursor until it goes straight to the gdm. The plymouth boot screen won't show at all. Is there a relatively simple fix for this?
I should add that I am not interested in updating to Natty. I have a limited bandwith I can use and a lot of accumulated software through the repos that would require several gigabytes of reinstall.
I'm lookin to buy a usb bluetooth dongle with A2DP protocol.
I'm not asking how to configure the adaptor, that will come in time. I only want to know if someone has something like this working in linux.
I'm running Slackware with 2.6.26 kernel. I've got bluez-utils,libs version 3.26 (Slackware 12.1 precompiled package), and kdebluetooth. I'm using a Digicom Palladio Usb Bluetooth adapter. In general, bluetooth seems to work; I can send files to my Nokia phone. Now, I've got this Bluetooth stereo headset (brand rather unknown, and I've thrown the package away, I've only got the little user manual, and there is no indication on who built this thing).
This is what I've tried so far:
- turn the headset on and turned pairing mode on;
- kbluetooth -> Configuration -> Input devices (input?) -> Search;
- kbluetooth finds the headset and asks that I insert the pin code; a little star appears next to the name of the headset ("Stereo Headset"), but after a couple of seconds disappears and at the same time I hear a beep coming from the headset (disconnection?). Anyway, just before the beep, noise came from the headset (as if it had turned on), then, after the beep, nothing.
- Important thing: the headset manual says the Usb dongle must support A2DP and AVRCP. I don't know how to find out whether my dongle supports them, anyway, if I execute 'sdptool', in the "Services" section I get: [Code} ....
Does this mean that bluez/my usb dongle doesn't support A2DP? Anyway, I followed the instructions on "Bluez - Trac - AudioDevices" [URL] and added the specified part to .asoundrc. Of cource, even if I tell xine to use "bluetooth" as pcm device, it says the device is unknown.
can we upgrade lucid to maverick by using maverick live cd. what are the other methods for upgradation

I use maverick 64bit and banshee crashes a few seconds after I start the program, this is what I get:
"Got a SIGSEGV while executing native code. This usually indicates a fatal error in the mono runtime or one of the native libraries used by your application."
I deleted the banshee folder in .configure but every time the library is loaded the problem starts again.
When I open a dvd with movie player in maverick, i get an error saying "Could not read from resource".
View 9 Replies View RelatedI updated my ubuntu today from 10.04.1 to 10.10 and my microphone stopped working. There is no connector option in the input tab to choose the microphone. I checked everything in alsamixer and still nothing. I had no problems in 10.04.1.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Thinkpad edge. I am travelling right now, and will be for the next 2 weeks, and just discovered that my thinkpad's internam microphone won't work. Plugging in an external one won't work either.This means that I won't be able to communicate with friends & family for 2 weeks... any help to patch this problem will be IMMENSELY welcome.
Symptoms are strange: I can go to Sound Preferences, select Analog Stereo Duplex as hardware, click on "Input", change the input volume, mute it, unmute it... everything works fine. However, if I tap against the mike, the input level bit doesn't move at all. Needless to say, nothing sees it.

I had installed pavucontrol in Ubuntu 10.04 to record the sounds being played on the system, by changing the "Record stream for" value to "Monitor of Internal Audio Analog Stereo". I installed pavucontrol in Maverick as well, but here it doesn't capture and show the sounds being played at all, not even in playback (No sound meter bar activity below each entry). The sound can still be decreased/increased and it shows all the devices playing back or recordong. Also if I change the hardware to "Digital duplex" from Analog stereo Duplex" it starts capturing and showing the streams, but then I can't hear anything from the speakers. I even compiled the newest pavucontrol, but still the same.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a clean install of mythbuntu 10.10 and I am trying to get a DVB-T USB stick working for the last 2 weeks. Its a MobiDTV and it seems to have the same chipset/USB ID as EzCap_DVB_T_Stick. I followed the instructions on the [URL] and eventually got the driver compiled (I had to amend some code, change "Bool" pointers to "bool" and add a FIRMWARE MAX_NAME 30 constant). I also copied the af9035 FW file to the firmware directory.

I bought the hardware with Windows 7 MCE in mind. I have no Windows 7 disk so I installed Mythbuntu on it to see if build was solid and now I don't want Windows any more.
I've been using mpd for over an year. Today I noticed that it keeps crashing after about 95% playback regardless of the song I play. When I checked the log file, I found this:

I'm having a bit of trouble with playback of a few types of videos and I think I should be able to do this with the hardware I'm not what I would call a power user in Ubuntu so you may have to bear with me. =)

Video Card: nVidia GeForce 7300GT, 512 MB 350 MHz, driver version 260.19.06
Display: Outputting to an old CRT TV via S-Video cable at 1024x768
I've just moved to Maverick today, I had these same problems with Lucid plus some others that seem to have been resolved in that upgrade. I've tried these files on VLC 1.1.5 and Totem Movie Player 2.32.0 (using GStreamer 0.10.30) and I get the same results in each player.
Here are the details on two files I get this with, and what I see when I try to play them: SYMPTOM: Video seems okay, audio is basically missing - maybe the odd blip but by and large, nothing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded an ASUS netbook through a series of about 4 or so upgrades ending at Maverick (10.10). Sound in Java applets worked fine before that, but I've been trying for about a week now to get it working again.
Here is what I have tried so far:
Removed Sun Java and plugin, and installed Openjdk and icedtea
Removed Openjdk and icedtea, and installed Sun Java and plugin
Verified through aboutlugins that FireFox plugin matched installed Java plugin
Tried using padsp and aoss wrappers
Along the way I have also tried other suggestions I have found through Google for configuring sound and setting file permissions, but nothing works. No matter what I do, sound keeps working everywhere except in Java applets.
Here are some observations along the way.
Sound has worked everywhere I try except in Java applets. It works with Flash.
Java applets work fine except for sound. Java console indicates that sound files are being received and passed to applets.
My Java executable is located at /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java. I have tried renaming it "java.real" and creating a shell script that wraps it with padsp or aoss. When I do that Java works, but Java applets fail to start. The Java console does not start up, so the wrappers appear to prevent applets from starting.
I am trying to run applets at [url]. They work fine for me on a 64-bit 10.04 system and a 32-bit 10.04 system.
this is on three separate laptops; an HP Pavilion 4120se, a Sony Vaio VGN-S5XP and a Dell Studio XPS1340. All are showing the same symptoms, though the first two are running 10.10 and the last is dual-boot Win7Pro and Natty 64-bit. All are UK models with a Region 2 restriction. The dual boot machine will run all legal movie DVDs perfectly under Windows 7 Professional. All three installations will run educational and similar DVDs. On all 3, Medibuntu repo is enabled, Ubuntu Restricted Extras are installed, as is libdvdcss2 and libdvdread4 (if those 2 can co-exist!). I'm using Movie Player and VLC.
I have tried UK retail commercial Region 2 movie DVDs, foreign region-free movie DVDs, Chinese pirate movie DVDs. None work. However, Licklibrary guitar instructional DVDs work fine - so the drives are OK! I've tried the oldest movie DVDs I have, and the same result. MP in Maverick tells me, "Could not read from resource" (VLC just does nothing!), and in Natty it says, "Could not read DVD. This may be because the DVD is encrypted and a DVD decryption library is not installed".
I have read as much as I can of the sticky above, and searched through every 'can't play DVDs' thread - hence the installation of all the above-mentioned software, codecs and libraries, all to no avail. Is it simply that the lack of commercial kick-backs from open-source software means Linux users will not be allowed to view movie content, or is there something fundamental I'm missing?
Am running Maverick RC1 and when I try to install adobe-flashplugin in synaptic I get the message " Depends:libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0(>2.21.6) but this is not installable".

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just had the idea of going back to command line music players and mp3blaster is what that came to my mind. I am running Kubuntu 10.10 on a Thinkpad T43 laptop with the default kernel. In an archived thread I read
mp3blaster -s /dev/dsp
would do the trick. But since all sound devices in my current laptop seem to be listed under /dev/snd as pcmC0D0p etc. I tried using,
mp3blaster -s /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p
and this gave a sound device control error.
Just did some digging around and saw that I didn't have any oss modules running. Are they the culprits? If not how would I make mp3blaster use my current devices else do I need to reconfigure my kernel to have the oss modules?
I recently upgraded to Maverick and am loving it. Converting over my various scripts to work on the new box I notice that my video trascoding script, which uses mencoder to re-encode video as h264, now does not work.

I fresh installed Maverick and had sound for buttons and Rythymbox. After installing flash all sound is gone.I have checked most of the suggested possible causes but have not come up with the reason for this.

Having updated to 10.10 I am having a problem getting songs from Rhythmbox to my iPod.
When i plug in the iPod it mounts fine and opens in Rhythmbox. I then transfer the songs that i just pulled off amazon/ubuntu one onto the iPod by drag and drop. In Rhythmbox, the songs appear to be on the iPod and i can even play them off the ipod while it is mounted to Rhythmbox - i.e. when i am browsing the music selection on the ipod through rythmbox the songs will play, which makes me think they are on the ipod.
The problem is that when i try and play a song off the ipod, through speakers or headphones, then nothing plays. The song simply sits silent on the ipod. The track timer doesn't move and the tracks count up at around 4 second intervals.
This simple drag and drop approach worked in 10.04.
I see that there are some problems syncing ipods in 10.10. The most relevant appears to be a bug reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ox/+bug/654105
This bug however appears to be about taking songs off an ipod, not putting them on. That said i think the problem might be related (about copying appropriate extensions). The issue is that the ipod organises music in such a bizarre fashion that i can't find the songs to check the extension that has come off Rhytmbox. I don't want to duplicate the bug if its the same or related.
I'm having an issue when ever I play any type of media with any media player everything starts acting buggy. Buggy such as I can't click anything nor will hot keys work properly. Seems as if everything is somewhat frozen but the courser can still move. This only happens when I play a media file. Using Maverick Meerkat!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been successfully using Elluminate Live online meeting space (Java-based) on previous releases of Ubuntu.By upgrading to Maverick 10.10., all audio features of that application became dysfunctional. Obviously, the Java application that is used to connect to Elluminate Live doesn't recognize audio devices (audio setup wizard of the same application doesn't list any devices).Contacting Elluminate's support didn't help because accoring to them Ubuntu 10.10 is not a supported distro for Elluminate.
