Software :: Flash Player : No Sound / Get It Again?

Jun 1, 2011

Ever since I replaced my old Radeon HD 3850 AGP card with a Radeon HD 4830 PCIE one, Flash Player (v. 10.3.181.14) is a mess:
- no hardware video acceleration (full screen playback unbelievably slow)
- no audio

Only flash plugin is concerned; hardware video acceleration and audio seems to be present in other applications. (First skype also had no sound, but that could be set by selecting the onboard analog audio device instead of the default).

System:
mobo: asrock 4coredual sata2 rev.2
cpu: Intel Pentium(R) Dual-Core E6300 @ 2.80GHz
kernel: 2.6.34.8-0.2-default
system: SuSE 11.3
flash: 10.3.181.14

In this specific case, even yast is confused: I can configure the mobo audio device in it, but nothing else works in yast: no audible test sound, no possibility to set volume for the mobo audio device, as no volume controls are shown. (It may happen that yast "shows" the non-existing radeon hdaudio device controls, instead)
Kmix is better: it shows both audio devices and all controls and all work (this means there are no controls for the radeon hdaudio device - but I do no miss them, as I do not want to use that device).

Is there a way to:
- disable the radeon hd audio device so that linux get into a more friendy hardware environment?
- is there a way to do this in linux (alsa)? (of course everything works in xp, this time, too)

Software :: No Sound From Flash Player (Slackware)

Oct 10, 2010

I have a fairly fresh install of Slackware and I just installed the flash plugin for Firefox. After installing the flash plugin, I'm able to view videos, but I'm unable to hear any sound.

- Pidgin also does not play sound

- Amarok plays sound fine

- Other KDE system event sounds play fine (i.e. starting and leaving X)

- I used alsaconf to configure my sound as it wasn't working right after the Slackware install

Ubuntu :: Installing Adobe Flash Player In Opera?

Just a little question about installing the Adobe Flash Player. I downloaded the Flash Player library in tar.gz format directly from Adobe. I want to install it in the default plug-in directory for Opera, which is /usr/lib/opera/plugins. When I try to copy the file, I get an error saying that I do not have the sufficient permissions to copy a file to that directory. Does anyone know how to copy the file using the command line, using the SUDO command?

General :: Installing Flash Player 10 With IceWeasel?

Mar 10, 2010

I have barebones Debian Lenny, with bare bones Gnome Desktop. I'm using IceWeasel for a browser. I have downloaded the file install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz. from the Adobe website. I have unpacked (I guess) the file using the command
tar -zxvpf install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz

Now according to the instructions at Adobe - Flash Player 10: Installation instructions
It should be unpacked to a directory with an installer that can be run, but all I get is a single file called libflashplayer.so, and I haven't a clue what to do with it. .so is like a .dll file I guess. IceWeasel has a built in service that installs plugins, but this failed with flash.

General :: Installing Flash Player On Knoppix 6.0

Aug 14, 2009

i have recently gotten the Knoppix 6.0, and have installed it on my usb flash drive. finally i can browse the internet again on that laptop, but alas, i can't watch any videos because flash player isnt installed yet. i tried to install it by myself and followed adobe's instructions but i just dont get why it won't install. here are my questions:

1. in the adobe instructions, it is said that i need to unpackage the files. and when i unpackage it, a new directory/folder is supposed to appear. but why does it always unpackage on the desktop? no folders are created when i unpackage it.

2. it is said that i need to navigate to the newly created directory and type a command. how am i supposed to navigate to a non-existent directory, huh? and how do you even navigate to certain directory? i typed help in the terminal (i'm using LXTerminal by the way) to look for a hint but i saw nothing there. so, how do you "navigate" using the terminal?

I really need to install the flash player. I've also tried using the Install components in start > system tools > install components and selected the 'flashplugin-nonfree: Flash support for your browser' but when i clicked install, nothing happens.

Software :: Installing Flash Player On OpenSuSe 11.2

Mar 16, 2011

When I try to upload the photos to my gallery, the dpreview.com says: Adobe Flash required
In order to upload images you need Adobe Flash Player. You have either an older version or no version at all. You can get the latest version on. I downloaded the RPM from the Suse website: [URL].

Code:
linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls # rpm -i flash-player-10.0.32.18-3.1.1.i586.rpm
package flash-player-10.0.32.18-3.1.1.i586 is already installed
linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls # updatedb
/usr/bin/find: '/home/anisha/.gvfs': Permission denied
linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls #
The problem persists.

Now I realize, perhaps they mean that no other flash player than adobe will work. So now downloaded the plugin from the Adobe website: [URL]

Code:
linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls # rpm -i flash-plugin-10.2.152.27-release.i386.rpm
linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls # updatedb
/usr/bin/find: '/home/anisha/.gvfs': Permission denied
linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls #
The problem STILL persists.

Fedora :: Installing Adobe Flash Player Applications

Oct 3, 2009

I just installed Fedora 11 on my Sony Vaio laptop. I couldn't stand Windows Vista any longer. I installed Fedora 11 just fine with no issues. But I seem to be having trouble installing programs such as Adobe Flash Player, Reader, Limewire, Java pluggin, etc. Everytime I try to install these, it says for example "Could not display "/home/blackout87gn/Download/jre-6u16-linux-i586-rpm.bin". This was for the Java file I downloaded. I made sure that all these files I downloaded were for Linux. So being the newb that I am, can someone point me in the right direction on how to install these applications? Also what does .rpm .bin .deb and .tar.gz represent?

Debian :: Installing Adobe Flash Player 10 In Freespire

Feb 16, 2010

I am a complete beginner but I have installed Freespire on a PC of mine. Everything works okay: BBC iPlayer, You Tube, Internet Radio except Deezer which, it seems, requires the installation of Adobe Flash Player 10. I've followed the recommendations of countless articles in the Internet without success and my head is now spinning. For example there seem to be three input screens for instructions: Shell, Linux Console and Root Shell. I don't even know which one I should be using. Frequently my failed efforts result in a message saying unknown file and directory. When I download Adobe tar.gz I can't see where it's going. I tried extracting to the Desktop and that produces a file ending in .so. But what ever I do nothing works.
