I have NVidia 8400gs. After fresh install my splash screen is at good resolution but after installing nvidia drivers I got resolution issue at splash screen. And when playing hd files in movie player i.e. totem I get slow frames. and in mplayer I got this error "could not open directshow codec wmvdmod.dll" but file plays in bad quality than windows.

The files play because I can hear them, but I don't see any output. I have moved the depth to 16 bit, but I still don't get anything.

View 9 Replies View Relatedcurrently using nvidia accelerated graphics driver (version 185) and a nvidia 8800gt. cpu is an intel c2d e6600, so it's quite a fast pc. video playback is extremely choppy to the point of being unwatchable. it affects all applications that i have tried, such as vlc, movie player and flash videos in mozilla firefox. videos on videos seem slow but playable, but when i try to watch them in full screen there's a drop to about 5fps. cpu usage reaches 100%. scrolling is also slow on large webpages. disabling compiz makes no visible difference.
before i installed nvidia's driver, videos played perfectly. videos play fine in windows xp. it seems as if nvidia's driver is using the cpu to 'process' videos, instead of the graphics card. other than that, ubuntu 9.10 is lightning fast... so what's going on here? i have resolved one issue, that is flash player's performance in firefox. followed instructions [here] and videos is now smooth in full screen. other videos, however, are still stuttering and spiking cpu usage. this must be a widespread issue, but the lack of information on the web shows otherwise.
first of all: I am not sure, if this is the right forum, as I don't know, if it is Slackware-relatedm, or if it is a general thing affecting other distros with KDE, as well. I have a Zotac IONITX-F-E motherboard (Intel Atom Dual Core 1.6 GHz + Nvidia ION) -based box with Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit installed. Do you or does someone you know have the same setup as I do? If so, do they have 1080p video playback working? If so, what driver are they using? I've tried following every guide I could find, but no luck so far. I have libvdpau1 and libvdpau-dev installed. I have the nvidia 195.36.24 driver installed (I used the nvidia installer). I have mplayer installed (which I compiled from source with --enable-vdpau).
I try to run mplayer with this command:

It turns out that I had already added the nvidia-vdpau repository. However, despite that, I get:

The same problem exists for the nvidia-195-modaliases package. Do these packages exist? Is there some other way to get them?

View 9 Replies View Relatedi installed the new beta 10.04 and it seemed right after the install and update that both nvidia hardware drivers were automatically install together. i deactivated both drivers. one driver showed the nvidia 173 driver and the other one showed "current" nvidia driver.
after a restart i then tried to activate the 173 driver. system required a restart. so i did. system booted to a black screen. i believe its at the desktop but i am unable to see it. i tried to hit esc at the boot screen to enter the grub menu but that didnt work.
Currently using Nvidia driver version 195.36.31, it's the version that works with Nvidia-kernel-dkms, would updating Nvidia driver to the current 275.09.07 driver version break my setup?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have some trouble in playing mkv files (both 720p and 400p) on Ubuntu. I had no problem whatsoever playing the same files when I still had Windows, so I'm assuming this is not an hardware problem. I have an HP Pavillion laptop, an nVidia graphic card with proprietary drivers for Ubuntu, dual core AMD processor, and Ubuntu 10.04 64bit installed. Many other applications are actually way faster, now, than with Windows, as that was just a 32bit version. Nevertheless, I have problems. Totem is usually slow, and generates lags between video and audio. I used MPlayer (with Gnome GUI), and it was ok with some files, but with some others (can't find any particular logic, maybe it's due to different encoding methods) it will just start, not show anything, NOT CLOSE, and enter in some kind of stall. The CPU overheats and I'm forced to reboot to stop it.
(It's not due to folders too crowded with mkv files... I've tried to take the files out of their folders, they still give trouble). Finally, VLC kinda works, but still won't allow me to jump in between the file. With some files it just doesn't jump. With a file I acquired recently, it jumps to exactly HALF of the time I actually asked for the jump (Like, I ask to jump at 42 min., it jumps at 21 min.). Chapter selection won't work either.
I upgrade mi connection between my PC to my TV, from VGA to HDMI, now I can't watch heavy mkv files coz they jump during the playback, I cant watch MD content on ..... coz the video keeps loading from time to time even if the video is fully loaded,resuming, crappy - not fluid. I tried changing resolutions and refresh rate between 1280 x 720 and 1920 x 1080 but nothing. Do I need to change my video card to be able to see 1080p media at 1920 x 1080 res in my ubuntu?

I installed the required plugins and packages to get mp3 playback to work, but I cant seem to find a way to get it to play any mp4 files. This wouldn't normally be a problem, but a lot of my music is in that format and I cant get any of it to play.

I have a Intel Q6600 and a GTX480 with the latest drivers on OpenSUSE 11.4. Qt 4.7.1
On VLC 1.1.8/1.2.0 I've tried X11 video out, XVideo video out and GLX video out. I've also tried enabling hardware decoding under Advanced > Inputs/Codecs > FFmpeg to no avail.
On MPlayer 0.6.9, I set my cores to 4, and and tried XVideo output and VDPAU output.
I'm having jittery DVD playback, and I don't know what the problem is. I tried switching to metacity, but that didn't help. I tried copying the whole disk to local drive with dvdbackup, but the local files displayed the same effects. I tried mplayer and vlc, but no difference. Totem, however, is really bad with jitters. With totem, I tried checking 'Disable deinterlacing of interlaced videos', which I saw someone recommend in another thread, but that didn't help either. My question is this: I am running openSUSE 11.2 on my lappy. When I try to follow steps online to install all the necessary codecs, plugins and applications. I always seem to run into dependency problems. Can ANYONE out there give a step by step walk through of installing and running all the necessary files, codecs, apps. from a fresh install that has worked for them to get media to work in suse 11.2? For the sake of example and trying to get this process done right lets assume that I have installed suse fresh on my system and want to play DVD's and listen to MP3's.

On the desktop, video its shown with no audio; using Kaffeine, both are played (sound and video) but are a bit out of sync (it happens in both, the laptop and desktop).

The OS installed without a hitch and was able to get video card, wireless internet installed with relative ease. However, I have encountered a problem installing my E-mu 0404 PCI sound card via the ALSA packages in Synaptic.
Code: 04:03.0 Multimedia audio controller [0401]: Creative Labs SB0400 Audigy2 Value [1102:0008] As you can see once the packages were installed the OS could see the hardware ok, but when I tried playing a standard MP3 file (16 bit, 44.1khz, 192kbps) in Totem it started playing the file back around 15-20% faster than normal? To me it sounds as if the software is playing the audio back at higher sample rate than 44.1khz hence the faster speed, though I'm not 100% on that.
The next thing I tried was playing the same file back in VLC and it was exactly the same (15-20% too fast), but this time it was horrible and glitchy as well, almost as if the audio buffer size was set to small. The same thing happened when I tried playing back some flac and wav files (all 16 bit, 44.1khz) also. I have searched google (and read the comprehensive sound card guide on this forum) and read several forums, guides, etc. for anybody posting the same issue with this particular card but could find nothing. From all reports I've read this card should work fine under ALSA. For the record I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 64bit kernel running on a Dell Dimension 9200 (Intel Core2Duo E6400 2.13ghz) with 2GB RAM.

I read somewhere that the nouveau driver that installs by default with ubuntu 10.04 does not support VDPAU. So, my first step is to install the nVidia proprietary driver. I tried following a half-dozen different guides for doing this, none of which worked. Let's take this one for example: [URL] I purge. I reboot. I run the Nvidia installer (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-195.36.24-pkg2.run). I get:
Code: ERROR: Unable to create '/usr/lib/nvidia-current/libGL.so.195.36.15' for copying (no such file or directory). So, I run: Code: sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-185 nvidia-185-modaliases I try the nvidia installer again. It works. I reboot. I get a message saying that ubuntu is running in low graphics mode, because loading the nvidia kernel module failed. I check /var/log/messages and see: Code: API mismatch: the client has version 195.36.24 but the kernel module has version 195.36.15. I take a Tylenol and here I am.
I just performed a clean install of Kubuntu Lucid earlier this week after deciding it was time to upgrade from Hardy. Pretty much everything worked, until I attempted to install the proprietary NVIDIA driver.
OS details: Kubuntu 10.04 x64 Kernel 2.6.32.22.What happened when I tried to install the proprietary nvidia-current package was simply that it didn't work. I could open the nvidia utility, it would say the driver was not in use. Attempts to force the issue by running nvidia-xconfig would render the X server unable to start, which gave me some quality time in a shell console with APT or restoring the xorg.conf file from backup. Trying to compile and install the driver from nvidia also wasn't working out so well.
I think the issue boiled-down to the install presumably attempting to upgrade the kernel during initial install from CD, but not doing so completely. I had all the appropriate 2.6.32.22 kernel and header packages, but GRUB was apparently still booting to the 2.6.32.21 kernel (which had no headers or anything) and not giving options to boot to the upgraded kernel.
How I fixed this was to remove all packages related to the 2.6.32.22 kernel via APT, then remove all the 2.6.32.21 kernel packages. That second operation triggered the 2.6.32.22 kernel to be reinstalled, and GRUB to be configured correctly to boot to it. At that point, I reinstalled nvidia-current, and it worked. I tried this after determining I was on the 2.6.32.21 kernel, and had no option to boot to the 2.6.32.22 one.
Your mileage may vary. In retrospect, I probably could've fixed it by fixing GRUB to boot to the current kernel. This appears to be a consistent issue, as I reinstalled at one point, just to start over, and went through the same thing again.
I suspect the driver I obtained from the nvidia website and patched (due to issues it has with recent kernels) might work now that I'm booting to the correct kernel with headers, but I think I'll save that for another time since nvidia-current is working great for me at the moment.
I wish to update my nvidia driver (I was running 195.36.24 and I want to update to 195.36.31). I followed all the instructions on this thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1467074) and everything went well until this part:

Question:
1. Do I uninstall nouvea and nv drivers (still installed)
2. Do I uninstall the current nvidia driver, then do a manual install of the latest driver from nvidia?
Installing Mythbuntu 10.10, which I finally got installed properly. At first I installed the open-source video drivers just to make sure the installation worked, then I installed the "version current" proprietary drivers using the graphics drivers manager...tool...thing. However, when I restarted the computer, it has a text-mode splash screen and I stay in the first virtual terminal.
If I try to go to the GUI "terminal" [Ctrl-Alt-F7], it appears to be partway through some kind of check:

I ran sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg to try to get back to the open-source drivers, but it didn't give any text output and went straight to the next line of command prompt, when I restarted it did the exact same thing. Any tips for at least getting back to the open drivers? I'd like to not have to reinstall again (I'm dual-booting WinXP,). The card in question is a GeForce 6200 AGP.

I have an Asus A8N-E ACPI BIOS Revision 1013 Motherboard (which has a built in Realtek AC'97 soundcard).
My video card is NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT/GTO
I am running Slackware 12.2, KDE 3.5, Kernel 2.6.27.31.
My problem is: Sound quality when only playing song files through xmms, songbrid, Amarok, etc... is garbled. Although games, Movies, DvD's, Video files, all sound through that media is perfect and clear.
I have already used Slackware 13, KDE 4.2.2 and I thought the problem was with KDE 4+ so I reinstalled to Slackware 12.2 and KDE 3.5. Everything was working great until I installed the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.53 driver so my video card works like it should and games work under Wine.
But I am at a loss on how I can get the soundcard working. I suspect something within the NVIDIA driver is conflicting with my soundcard.
I want to install new nvidia driver for geforce 8600 on ubuntu 10.04 but I recive the following error: The binuteals is not installed on the system.
