I just installed openSuse 11.2 KDE in a laptop and a desktop. On the laptop, SMPlayer worked very well with "rmvb" files. On the desktop, video its shown with no audio; using Kaffeine, both are played (sound and video) but are a bit out of sync (it happens in both, the laptop and desktop).

Is there a multimedia player that can play downloaded *.rmvb movies?
View 1 Replies View Relatedmp3 file is about 30 minutes but it runs up in 2 seconds and .rmvb file is about 60 minuts but runs up in 5 seconds.
I tried different mp3 files, tried different players including Amorak, DragonPlayer and Kaffeine. Didn't try other types of multimedia files though.
The fact that flashes work well on Firefox may prove that sound card is all right.
but after a forum search I only found one similar thread, but seemingly the issue was not totally solved. I just would like to suggest a solution (well, most likely a workaround) for .rmvb Real Player movies which don't work well on Kaffeine, without need to install other players or applications.I first saw many people had similar problems as me: Real Player movies just played sound but not video, or viceversa. I first tried installing w32 codecs, but this seems to be the good solution for 32 bit users, I use 11.3 x64 and didn't work for me. Seems to be a Medibuntu repository, and I looked for a .tar file, since I was looking for a "w64" version of the codecs. I downloaded the latest .tar.gz file found on the page, the 20071007 one and uncompressed it. It has some codec files and a Readme which tells where to put the files. After that done, without rebooting Suse, I tried again to play the movie, and Kaffeine finally played it well, although now it pops a message saying Kaffeine closed unproperly whenever I close it after having played a .rmvb movie. I think that can be solved by updating Kaffeine, but haven't tried that yet
I tried playing some rmvb videos. I can hear the audio but there is no audio. I followed a few theads related to this but it still hasn't fixed my problem.
One thread says all related packages must be from packman. I have this currently

I can play any video file even 720p but when I am trying to play 1080p video files my video lags.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a DVD that I am trying to burn to a disc. What I have is a VIDEO_TS folder. First I burned just that to the disc and it plays fine in my standard DVD player, but when I try to play it back using Ubuntu's Movie Player, it acts like it is going to play for a split second and then goes into stop mode. So, I tried burning the disc again, but this time I added and empty AUDIO_TS folder to it. Still plays fine on the DVD player, but in Movie Player it plays the menu. Only it doesn't show any image, just a '>' symbol that you can move with the mouse.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just finished trying to install the codecs for various audio/video playback (Restricted Formats/11.2 - openSUSE - Community) and now I can play flash, mp3s and such but most of the video playback is very jittery and is not watchable. I have now tried it with mplayer and kaffine but still the same. I had this problem before as well and even tried VLC but no luck. I had thought I could just add the Nvidia repository and type in my graphics card, install and be done with it but no such luck (nothing even comes up when I type geforce).

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running openSUSE 11.1 on a Pentium Dual Core 2.5 (E5200) Processor, 2GB RAM and an NVidia 8400GS PCI Express display card.When I intitially installed my system I also installed VLC media player, at that time it was version 1.0.1, Mplayer and SMplayer a few codecs for K3B, handbrake for DVD ripping etc. That was also the only time since my computer has been online, i have never updated it since. And it had no problems whatsoever. Among other things I use my system to watch DVD's. I watched many DVD's and video clips flawlessly.
Now all of a sudden when watching DVD's and video clips the DVD playback flickkers red (the color red). I am not sure what causes it and it is very irritating. It flickkers even more with video clips. With a DVD it dissappears after a while but as soon as you move your mouse pointer or click on the screen it starts to flickker red again.I thought it was my NVidia card that might be faulty, but I booted up from a Puppy linux live-cd and I played a DVD from there and it works 100%.
Installed clean new 11.2-32 bit. Followed the restricted formats post. Kaffeine, vlc, and Mplayer present a blue screen with sound or shutdown immediately. Recommended diagnostic steps as follows:-

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a problem with my VLC MediaPlayer (v1.0.3-GoldenEye). During video-playback, my screenbrightness is turned to zero after approx- 30 seconds of playback. After turning the screen brightness to high again, the same thing starts over again. By now, I encountered that changing screen resolutions (e.g. after closing a fullscreen application with a different resolution) also turns my brightness to 0.

I installed the required plugins and packages to get mp3 playback to work, but I cant seem to find a way to get it to play any mp4 files. I have a Intel Q6600 and a GTX480 with the latest drivers on OpenSUSE 11.4. Qt 4.7.1
On VLC 1.1.8/1.2.0 I've tried X11 video out, XVideo video out and GLX video out. I've also tried enabling hardware decoding under Advanced > Inputs/Codecs > FFmpeg to no avail.
On MPlayer 0.6.9, I set my cores to 4, and and tried XVideo output and VDPAU output.
For the longest time DVD and MP3 playback have haunted me. I fully understand the idea behind open source and not packaging the codecs with the OS. My question is this: I am running openSUSE 11.2 on my lappy. When I try to follow steps online to install all the necessary codecs, plugins and applications. I always seem to run into dependency problems. Can ANYONE out there give a step by step walk through of installing and running all the necessary files, codecs, apps. from a fresh install that has worked for them to get media to work in suse 11.2? For the sake of example and trying to get this process done right lets assume that I have installed suse fresh on my system and want to play DVD's and listen to MP3's.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I play large HD videos in mplayer, the video and sound frequently get out of sync, and the video plays a little strangely (occasionally speeding up and occasionally slowing down).
I think it's because mplayer is only running on a single core. As I've got a quad-core processor, it seems inefficient. I've seen that there is theoretically a way to get mplayer to work with multicore setups, but it requires compiling with different options. That'd take me a little while to work through.
Ideally there would be a pre-compiled version in the software centre, or a player which has support built in (again, ideally in the software centre). Is there such a thing available?

I am setting up a MythTV environment to switch from Windows based MediaPortal (with a high number of disturbing bugs). Yet, I have three difficulties, which I want to discuss with you. They are:
- No audio via HDMI see [URL]
- Video resolution seems to change during video playback
- Channels cannot be found via DVB-S [URL]
As you can see, I have created three posts to keep discussions focused.
Alltogether I have the following setup:
- AMD 5050e CPU
- 8 GByte RAM
- Biostar TA890GXE
- Samsung LE40M86BD, connected via HDMI (and only HDMI)
- Mythbuntu 10.10 with proprietary drivers installed
- Technisat Skystar HD2 DVB-S card (two times)
Now, here is the problem:
Whenever I playback any video material using e.g. VLC, the screen resolution changes. This also applies when playback the video in a window and not fullscreen. The problem is that whenever the screen resolution changes, short time later the TV set blanks screen and show the TV set specific information "unsupported video mode".
How can I enforce to stay in the configured video mode?
When I play a video in Totem, MPlayer, VLC or whatever, my displayed windows will look transparent in a funny way. Letters are not readable, colours get distorted and images with a black background (colour 0) will display the partial video in it.

I have nVidia 9200M GS (HP laptop)
I've set nVidia setting to sync vblank and disabled it in compiz
I've also disabled PowerMizer..
I love the system to give up some vsync issues in moving windows, but i just can't get over video tearing. I'm ready to install anything, change anything, even do a new clean install to get it working. UPDATE: Installed SMPlayer, works fine but drops couple of frames every 5 secs or so (more annoying than tearing lol) is there any specific settings that can fix that?

The resolution/length/etc is correct, but the picture is all weird. Webm doesn't work at all.
I tried mplayer, kmplayer, smplayer, gxine, totem and kplayer. All the same.
However, the exact same video's play back normally in HTML5 pages with a bunch of browsers on the same machine. They also play back normally on a Windows machine. There is no DRM involved.
Aren't these gstreamer en mplayer based players supposed to handle this correctly?
This is an Intel Core i3 machine with Intel HD graphics.
i am loving the ubuntu 10.10 interface.my laptop is a toshiba satellite l450 (3gb ram + 2.10ghz amd proc essor. i use a ati radeon hd 3200 graphics card.i have to manually adjust the sound settings if i plug in a headphone or a hdmi cable to suit the necessary output. windows did this automatically.my video quality is very very poor. if i run videos on any browser or watch a movie (avi file) on totem or vlc it is very jumpy and the sound is often out of sync.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I play videos in VLC, the video output seems to randomly freeze while playing the video. This does not effect the audio though. The audio output continues, but with the video frozen on a frame. This is happening in windowed and full-screen mode. I have to use "pkill vlc" each time twice then start VLC again. I have had to resort to mplayer for the time being. I am running squeeze. I was not experiencing this problem before though (started within the past week), so it must be due to some recent upgrade. I have tried "aptitude purge vlc && aptitude install vlc", but I am still experiencing the same problem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Latitude CPi that has 400MHz Intel Processor and 256 MB of ram. It has a Neomagic Corporation NM2360 [MagicMedia 256ZX]. I have it set to 16 bit color depth and it is using the neomagic driver. My problem is that it cannot play any video of any size flash, or saved to hard drive. It has a fps so low that I can see it rendering each frame going across the screen. It doesn't seem to have a problem with animated pictures, just actual video files. I don't know whether or not this matters but the card set is known to not support 3d acceleration. I can run any commands in terminal and have a good understanding of the linux environment. This problem has occurred under Ubuntu and Xubuntu and still happens if I use a light weight WM like fluxbox.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to playback DVDs in VLC media player, I have to switch the video output driver to get any playback.If I leave it on "Default" (which I think is defaulting to "XVideo Extension Video Output"), I get a solid green or blue screen (which I also get with "Xvideo Extension Video Output")If I switch it to "OpenGL Video Output", I get proper DVD playback but it is kind of pixelated and ugly.If I switch it to "X11 Video Output", I get DVD playback that is very crisp and sharp, the image quality is great.unfortunately, the colors are completely messed up and the blue is completely saturated.I've played with the color settings (especially the Hue setting), but I can't get the colors to look right.

I've installed Ubuntu 9.10 and the prime reason for giving it a go is due to the media center capability with apps such as Moovida and LinuxMce.
Unfortunately during video playback [either divx or flash] there appears to be a random line or lines which flickers on the screen when the video is in fullscreen mode.
I'm using an ATI x1900 video card and have tried using both Tote and VLC, and I have also tried installing the fglrx.
But, both with and without flgrx installed, under the section 'Device' in xorg.conf it says that the driver is 'vesa'.
I don't know how to disable the default ATI driver to enable fglrx, or whether I am going off on completely the wrong tanget and should be looking at something else.
Or is there better support for my type of card in Ubuntu 10 as I don't want to go back to Ubuntu 8 which is the last supported version of the os that ATI developed a driver for my card.
I have a 30" LCD with 2560x1600 pixel resolution. I would like to make and play videos at this resolution, but software decode is too slow, and the GPU accelerated decode (VDPAU) maxes out at 2048 pixels. It might be possible to decode 2Kx2K and cut-and-paste and reorganize the rectangles to fill 2560x1600. But someday I plan on getting a 4K screen (4096x2160 pixels) and I would like to support that too. For that it seems two video streams decoded by two GPUs and exactly synchronized would work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two Ubuntus installed. A 10.04 and a 9.04. In 9.04 if I watch a video in Firefox, it works very smoothly and nicely. Using the "top" command, totem-plugin-vi is using the most cpu time at about 16%, and xorg is using about 5%. But in 10.04, totem is using 72% and xorg is using 26%, and it looks really choppy. I think watching DVDs is the same way. I checked "Hardware Drivers" in the System->Administration menu (in 10.04) and it said "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system." I'm guessing maybe I'm using different video drivers on each system, but I don't even know how to check. and here is an excerpt from lspci:
