I've installed Ubuntu Minimal 9.10 (64-bit) on a Gateway ML6720 laptop. I run Jockey-GTK in terminator and after searching, it brings back no results and says "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system." I don't really have a clue of what I could be missing, but I got my drivers working in Arch on this laptop before so it can't be anything too difficult[URL]
View 4 RepliesI'm trying to get the screen graphics working correctly on a newly purchased ACER Aspire 7740G laptop. It has a 17.3" 16:9 screen with an ATI Radeon Mobility HD5470 512MB graphics card.
The command LSPCI in Terminal gives.....

I've also uploaded /var/ log/ xorg.0.log.
In System/Preferences/Display the pink coloured monitor screen has 'UNKNOWN' displayed on it with only 3 resolutions available.
I installed the ATI Catalyst Control centre but when it initialises, it produces an error saying that there is no driver installed - I thought the XORG log shows that the driver is installed.
The command ATICONFIG in Terminal reports.........
"aticonfig: No supported adapters detected" !
I have a Dell Latitude E6400 with Karmic (Intel graphics chip). Currently, I am trying to connect a 22'' TFT using a DisplayPort to DVI adaptor plug. Unfortunately, it doesn't even seem to find the screen. xrandr does not list it:

I know from another guy who connected an HDMI TV over DisplayPort, and this devices is listed unter "HDMI1", and not "DP1". So I am not quite sure where it would be listed even if it found the screen.
I upgrade yesterday my lenny to squeeze.
Now I have some problem with compiz. When I do compiz --replace, I get:

Is it a driver problem? My ATI video card is one of them that works only with open driver and they seems corrrectly installed. glxinfo | grep render, give me a positive result.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want the drivers that are downloaded with jockey, but without having to use jockey-gtk (as it requires GNOME, and not just GTK.) How do I go about downloading/installing said drivers for a restricted NVIDIA (GTX 470) video card for 3D Composition? (I noticed there's a package called jockey-common, but so far, all I've hit on google are bug reports related to jockey-gtk, and nothing on how to use the jockey-backend, alone.) I can't start installing my openbox only (no-DE) install of ubuntu mini.iso without knowing how. The official drivers usually cause the entire system to start lagging for some reason on any brand of video card, ATI, NVIDIA and even Intel if I use the official BINs for each.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed the ppc version of ubuntu 10.10 on my moms iMac g5 and cannot open additional drivers aka jockey-gtk. I simply see the "searching for additional drivers" window appear for just a sec, than nothing else.
in terminal I get a list of stuff i'm assuming are errors. So far none of the other solutions on the forum have worked that have solved it for other people.

I have a new install of Karmic on my system with a flyvideo 3000 tv card installed. My problem is that it doesn't find any radio channels and the input channel is completely wrong. I don't have any sound on gnomeradio and can't find the config files to change the input channel. The only input option available to me is dig1 - can anyone point me in the right direction?
I have already read the Howto for this tv card and changed the device to radio0 in the setup. I have setup tvtime perfectly with sound channel as well as with a 5.1 surround configuration. I am missing my favourite radio channel. and I want to get rid of my windows installations once and for all! Update: I did a system update and some things have changed: the radio tower graphic on gnomeradio is now green (I assume it is getting a signal) but no sound yet.
When i update cache in ubuntu,it is always displaying "waiting for jockey-backend to exit" and then there isn't any reaction.what's jockey-backend? how can i update cache successfully?

However i have qt4 installed (at least i think so, there are quite a few QT4 packages available, and i can't a metapackage that will install everything needed but qt4core, qt4gui and a bunch others are instlalled. pyqt4 is installed.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had Xdialog installed on a Jaunty machine. According to Synaptic, it comes from the section "Miscellaneous - Graphical (Universe)". I did a fresh installation of Lucid 10.04. But, Synaptic doesn't find Xdialog. I tried downloading the RPM build from the website, but alien seems unable to correctly convert it. I know that we're "supposed" to use zenity, but zenity doesn't have some of the features that I need.

In the past (8.04-10.04) after install ubuntu on boot grub would give me the option to go into ubuntu or windows, now ti doesnt give me that option and boots directly into ubuntu. I dont even think it has recognized that windows is there.

When I switch to the "PC" source (the screen supports also television) a blue notice reading "No signal" appears for a few seconds, followed by a black screen.
The screen isn't broken: I tried it on a laptop with windows XP and it worked fine!

I'm trying to set up a dual boot of Ubuntu & Windows XP.I have two hard disks installed - sda is 80GB and has an existing Windows setup on it, sdb is my 160GB data storage disk.When I have installed Ubuntu on other machines, it has detected any exisiting OS's and offered to install Ubuntu alongside them.
However, this time Windows doesn't seem to be detected - it says 'no other operating systems found' and wants to install to my second (i.e. sdb) disk. I was intending for Ubuntu & Windows to sit side-by-side on the first hard disk.Although I've installed Ubuntu before, I'm a bit of a novice and I'm not sure how to achieve this - where am I going wrong?
I've got three network devices on a laptop:
1. Built-in ethernet LAN
2. Built-in ethernet WLAN
3. PCMCIA ethernet LAN
I installed Ubuntu Server on this computer without the last one inserted.I inserted the last one today, and it lights up when i put in the cable. To be sure if Ubuntu has found it, I tested with the install CD and could see that it found all three at the first part of the installation where I have to chose a primary device.I can't get my WLAN card working, neither do I get my PCMCIA LAN card working. The third card, this PCMCIA card, has worked on Ubuntu Desktop using another laptop. And as said, the setup finds all three.
recently I risked a look to the Linux world and I'm happy so far, but now I've got a Problem, I'm unable to solve by myself. I installed Mint (Julia) on my old Laptop to test Linux. The Laptop has a very old PCMCIA WLAN Card with a Realtek rtl8180 chipset. Everything seems to run perfectly so far with one exception: the WLAN doesn't find any Network to connect although the card and the driver seem to be installed correctly.

I'm trying to connect to my 1st gen iPod touch using an Ad-Hoc network, but I can't find it on my iPod. I want to use it to do a presentation, not internet share or anything too complicated. I set the network up as follows (I'm on 10.10 by the way). Create new wireless network > Network name: xyz Wireless security: none - Create Then I went to edit connections and set an IP address and subnet mask and gateway (to 192.255.0.1, 255.255.255.0, 1.1.1.1 respectively) and set Band to "B/G 2.4 GHz". My iPod doesn't seem to be able to find the network. (It doesn't show up and typing it into "other" it "can't find the network xyz")

It built all required files (as far as I can see) and copied the .so file (libglog.so.0.0.0) to /usr/local/lib. Then it created two symbolic links called "libglog.so.0" and "libglog.so" that point to that shared object file:

Now I'm trying to execute a program that uses the library, but when I start it, I get the error message that it can't open the so-file:

/usr/local/lib is included in my /etc/ld.so.conf file, and another library that's located in this directory is loaded correctly.
When I try to install 10.4 on my hard drive, I get all the way to the "Prepare Partitions" menu and there are no disks listed and all button are grayed out. I am installing on an EVGA X58 motherboard with Intel ICH10 and I have AHCI enabled. Does Ubuntu support AHCI? Do I need drivers to install?

Is there maybe some specific reasons why I can't get changelogs before applying the updates? I know I can review them afterwards,it's just that I would find convenient to have a look before updating.
The searchfunction in Gnome 3 does not find the files in my DropBox. When searching it does find the DropBox folder, but not the files contained in them.
Dropbox folder is placed in /home/myusr/
All other subcontent folders in the home directory does show up in gnome search,
Went through Google and DuckDuckGo but was unble to find out how to manually change the places that the searchfunction indexes.
I had XP, Debian and F14 installed. Bootloader was the Grub from F14.
I installed F15 from DVD overwriting F14. In the new grub.conf I added:
