i have troubles using various HPLIP applications (HPLIP toolbox, HP setup, HP systray icon) because it doesn't find QT4. However i have qt4 installed (at least i think so, there are quite a few QT4 packages available, and i can't a metapackage that will install everything needed but qt4core, qt4gui and a bunch others are instlalled. pyqt4 is installed.

I did an upgrade using preupgrade program and it went very well. However, I have lost my HP 1020 printer. Can anyone assist with this. I tried to use HPLIP-Gui, but it doesn't even see the printer at all. The other problem is that I get the following message when trying to use Yumex:

I recently had problems with my HP printer in Fedora 12, where as I never had a problem with it in any other distrubution.... For some reason, the HPLIP driver in the repo doesn't work correctly... I don't know why... but I kept getting errors with "error: Printer queue setup failed. Please restart CUPS and try again."
I tried every suggestion I found... which was installing extra dependencies, disabling firewall, disabling SELinux and a whole bunch of other stuff... but nothing worked... THEN finally I decided to use the HPLIP driver from the HP website... it was a .run file... and I executed it, and my printer has worked perfect eversince..... my question is.... has anybody successfully installed their hp printer from the hplip driver in the repo's..??? I don't know why it didn't work for me, and i've seen other fedora users complain of the same thing? maybe theres something wrong with the package? or its not pulling in a needed dependency? I don't know...
I just installed Gimp for editing images. I managed to disable the toolbox that appears on the right and cant get it back. How do I do it.

I run Jockey-GTK in terminator and after searching, it brings back no results and says "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system." I don't really have a clue of what I could be missing, but I got my drivers working in Arch on this laptop before so it can't be anything too difficult[URL]
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had Xdialog installed on a Jaunty machine. According to Synaptic, it comes from the section "Miscellaneous - Graphical (Universe)". I did a fresh installation of Lucid 10.04. But, Synaptic doesn't find Xdialog. I tried downloading the RPM build from the website, but alien seems unable to correctly convert it. I know that we're "supposed" to use zenity, but zenity doesn't have some of the features that I need.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi have a 250gb hdd and a 160 hdd. i installed wind0ws 7 on the 250 and then ubuntu 10.10 on the 160. In the past (8.04-10.04) after install ubuntu on boot grub would give me the option to go into ubuntu or windows, now ti doesnt give me that option and boots directly into ubuntu. I dont even think it has recognized that windows is there.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a Samsung 2033HD monitor and I connected it to my PC (ubuntu lucid) with the D-Sub cables (the blue ones). When I switch to the "PC" source (the screen supports also television) a blue notice reading "No signal" appears for a few seconds, followed by a black screen.
The screen isn't broken: I tried it on a laptop with windows XP and it worked fine!
I see that the latest hplip is by default (3.10.2 in synaptic)great I thought but unlike the 3.10.2 version which was previously downloaded from the web(for 9.04) this default version STILL cannot produce photos without borders? In trying to install the web version (over the default version) which allows for exact printer settings. my printer then went haywire! Its for this reason only that I must go back to windows for HP essential. its a pity because this problem has been known for ages
View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to upgrade my current hp printer driver 3.10.9 to the latest version 3.11.1 According to 'Google' the command to remove the driver is sudo apt-get remove hplip but when I type this in terminal I get:liz@lizubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get remove hplipReading package lists... I installed 3.10.9 as per the Launchpad website - it looks like Ubuntu is not 'seeing' hplip although it is installed and working. I guess I need a more subtle command to get rid of all the hp driver files. Or could I just install 3.11.1 over the top? (Would have thought best to remove 3.10.9 first).

I'm trying to set up a dual boot of Ubuntu & Windows XP.I have two hard disks installed - sda is 80GB and has an existing Windows setup on it, sdb is my 160GB data storage disk.When I have installed Ubuntu on other machines, it has detected any exisiting OS's and offered to install Ubuntu alongside them.
However, this time Windows doesn't seem to be detected - it says 'no other operating systems found' and wants to install to my second (i.e. sdb) disk. I was intending for Ubuntu & Windows to sit side-by-side on the first hard disk.Although I've installed Ubuntu before, I'm a bit of a novice and I'm not sure how to achieve this - where am I going wrong?
I've got three network devices on a laptop:
1. Built-in ethernet LAN
2. Built-in ethernet WLAN
3. PCMCIA ethernet LAN
I installed Ubuntu Server on this computer without the last one inserted.I inserted the last one today, and it lights up when i put in the cable. To be sure if Ubuntu has found it, I tested with the install CD and could see that it found all three at the first part of the installation where I have to chose a primary device.I can't get my WLAN card working, neither do I get my PCMCIA LAN card working. The third card, this PCMCIA card, has worked on Ubuntu Desktop using another laptop. And as said, the setup finds all three.
recently I risked a look to the Linux world and I'm happy so far, but now I've got a Problem, I'm unable to solve by myself. I installed Mint (Julia) on my old Laptop to test Linux. The Laptop has a very old PCMCIA WLAN Card with a Realtek rtl8180 chipset. Everything seems to run perfectly so far with one exception: the WLAN doesn't find any Network to connect although the card and the driver seem to be installed correctly.

I'm trying to connect to my 1st gen iPod touch using an Ad-Hoc network, but I can't find it on my iPod. I want to use it to do a presentation, not internet share or anything too complicated. I set the network up as follows (I'm on 10.10 by the way). Create new wireless network > Network name: xyz Wireless security: none - Create Then I went to edit connections and set an IP address and subnet mask and gateway (to 192.255.0.1, 255.255.255.0, 1.1.1.1 respectively) and set Band to "B/G 2.4 GHz". My iPod doesn't seem to be able to find the network. (It doesn't show up and typing it into "other" it "can't find the network xyz")

After the latest updates on my Ubuntu 10.10 the system is unable to connect to my HP all-in-one printer.
I downloaded the latest HPLIP software, it is now sitting in my downloads but I am unable to run the software, when I click on the file the message is "Couldn't add corrupt torrent"
I have just downloaded, configure'd, make'd and make install'ed the Google Log Library to my computer. It built all required files (as far as I can see) and copied the .so file (libglog.so.0.0.0) to /usr/local/lib. Then it created two symbolic links called "libglog.so.0" and "libglog.so" that point to that shared object file:

Now I'm trying to execute a program that uses the library, but when I start it, I get the error message that it can't open the so-file:

I'm trying to get the screen graphics working correctly on a newly purchased ACER Aspire 7740G laptop. It has a 17.3" 16:9 screen with an ATI Radeon Mobility HD5470 512MB graphics card.
The command LSPCI in Terminal gives.....

In System/Preferences/Display the pink coloured monitor screen has 'UNKNOWN' displayed on it with only 3 resolutions available.
I installed the ATI Catalyst Control centre but when it initialises, it produces an error saying that there is no driver installed - I thought the XORG log shows that the driver is installed.
The command ATICONFIG in Terminal reports.........
"aticonfig: No supported adapters detected" !
When I try to install 10.4 on my hard drive, I get all the way to the "Prepare Partitions" menu and there are no disks listed and all button are grayed out. I am installing on an EVGA X58 motherboard with Intel ICH10 and I have AHCI enabled. Does Ubuntu support AHCI? Do I need drivers to install?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 9.10. The Update Manager did an update to HPLIP, the Hewlett Packard Linux Internet Printing software, one or two days ago. When I went to print today, the HP Officejet 4500 printer showed up in Open Office when my mouse pointed to the printer icon. But, the printer wouldn't work. Then I noticed that the HPLIP Toolbox icon was moved from the Applications - Accessoires folder, to the System - Preferences folder. I reinstalled all the HPLIP software, using the Synaptic Package Manager. When I click on the HPLIP Toolbox & run the HP Device Manager, it says "No Installed HP Devices Found".I was a little surprised to see the software upgrade caused the HPLIP toolbox to move fromhe Applications folder to the System folder. Because of this, I suspect there may be a bug in the upgraded software? Is anyone else having this problem?

Is there maybe some specific reasons why I can't get changelogs before applying the updates? I know I can review them afterwards,it's just that I would find convenient to have a look before updating.
The searchfunction in Gnome 3 does not find the files in my DropBox. When searching it does find the DropBox folder, but not the files contained in them.
Dropbox folder is placed in /home/myusr/
All other subcontent folders in the home directory does show up in gnome search,
Went through Google and DuckDuckGo but was unble to find out how to manually change the places that the searchfunction indexes.
I had XP, Debian and F14 installed. Bootloader was the Grub from F14.
I installed F15 from DVD overwriting F14. In the new grub.conf I added:
