Ubuntu Multimedia :: Gateway NV57H26u - Sounds Drivers Not Working Properly After Fresh Install Of Natty
Sep 1, 2011Sounds drivers not working properly after fresh install of Natty.
View 3 RepliesSounds drivers not working properly after fresh install of Natty.
View 3 RepliesI did a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10, coming from 10.04 and the wired network connection sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't. Right now I manually removed current network from System-->Preferences--> network connections, define a new one, and reboot. This usually fixes, although I've had to do this two times in the past.
Other general info
Ubuntu 10.10 64bit, EVGA P55 motherboard, on board either net.
After I put my laptop for a system update, some of it [sounds] works selectively in my browser when I am watching ..... but when I am playing some musics on my desktop, there's no any sounds coming out. Then I noticed that my Output is still in 100% but 0.00db and a Dummy Output.
I already tried some steps I saw in some threads that has the same problem too but it became worse, I no more [completely] sounds anymore.
Just wondering how i could add a entry into a restore script i would run after doing a fresh install of #! Crunch bang. going to be using a base script from [URL]...to do the basics replacing the aptitude thing with apt-get of course What i will be using is as follows
#!/bin/bash
#
# This script is the first in a series of setup scripts for gnome
# Check for admin rights. If user is not an admin user, exit the script
if [ $UID != 0 ]
then

I just installed lubuntu 10.04 on an old machine and cant get the sound to work. I have been through the sticky but cant seem to see the problem. Heres the useful output:

I've decided to do a full total fresh install of natty since I've had so many issues with 10.10, how to backup all my terminal commands and my ppa source list as .txt files? Also can I do a fresh install via ethernet cable or should I use the live cd to overwrite my current maverick Ubuntu?

I've recently switched over to Ubuntu 11.04. I installed Natty by wiping out Maverick entirely. Everything worked well, until I tried to install ATI graphics drivers through the instructions found here: [URL] The installation goes fine without any errors; however, when I reboot, nothing shows up on the screen. I can hear Ubuntu's startup sounds, but there are no visuals. When I attempt to go to the ATI Catalyst Control Center in Recovery Mode, I get this error:
Quote: There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition. It could be caused by the following. No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning properly. Please install the ATI driver appropriate for you ATI hardware, or configure using aticonfig.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling these drivers multiple times, and I've also tried using the generic driver detected by "Additional Drivers". None of these work at all, I cannot see anything on the screen when any ATI drivers are enabled. I've even tried re-updating Natty via CD, but none of this works. I have a Radeon HD 3450 graphics card, and my CPU is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5400+. I'm on 64 bit Ubuntu. I had no problems with my drivers on Maverick.
I have a HP laptop model HP G72 Notebook PC, Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 350 @2.27GHz & the Sound devices are Intel(R) Display Audio & Realtek High Definition Audio.
This machine came loaded with Windows7 & I have successfully dual booted it with Ubuntu Lucid 10.04.3.
The problem I am having is that I cannot get the sound to work at all in Ubuntu. No opening sounds or anything else that I have tried. No Web sounds, no CD sounds... All sounds work fine on the Windows side, but nothing I have tried so far seem to work with Ubuntu & I have tried many options from many threads.
I have wild idea to build a new Ubuntu computer from scratch. This is a great motherboard with lots of features, planning to have a RAID, and an AMD 64 bit processor(s). I want to be sure that I am installing the correct drivers..can anyone point me to a 'guide' to building a computer such as this?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI've got a Gateway CX2724. The sound works perfectly out of the speakers and headphones, but I can't get the internal mic to work for the life of me.
I asked around on other threads and tried a few modifications to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and none of these get the mic working when appended:
From the ALSA-Configuration instructions
Code:
options snd-hda-intel model=ref
Ideas taken from this thread
Code:
options snd-hda-intel probe_mask=1
Code:
options snd-hda-intel model=test enable-msi=1 probe-mask=1
This also doesn't work (modified from this thread.)
Code:
options snd-hda-intel model=ref probe_mask=1 position_fix=1
This also doesn't work (from "Extra Hints to get sound working.")
Code:
options snd-hda-intel model=laptop position_fix=1 enable=yes
When I use alsamixer to turn "mux" all the way up and have my headphones plugged into the microphone jack (don't have an external mic... ) in the front of the computer, I am able to record things but the volume is greatly muted. Perhaps the external jack is set to default for the microphone instead of using the internal mic?
I also have the output for alsa-info.sh if you want it - this was mentioned in the alsa configuration file (/usr/share/doc/alsa-base/driver/ALSA-Configuration.txt). Info about alsa-info.sh here.
Being a total beginner to linux, I can't seem to find a decent guide on how to install these drivers without much hassle, even though I've been searching for almost couple of hours now.

Now, I've installed the "default" (dunno if that would be the correct categorizing) driver with the "Hardware drivers" utility from System->Preferences->Hardware drivers because I've failed numerous times trying to install the package from nVidia site ; I would always get an error while trying to run the package :
"It seems that X server is running on your linux, please deactivate it to install this package" or something like that, but I'm sure it was about X running.
Well at the moment i have just installed Debian 5. I've downloaded nvidia-linux-x86-180.29-pkg1.run and i need someone to help me out step by step on how to install this properly.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently running Ubuntu 9.10 on a Compaq Presario V3010US. My video card is an NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 which appears to be running properly with some limitations (missing effects from CompizConfig). While utilizing the "Hardware Drivers" configuration a recommended driver is listed but when I attempt to activate this driver I encounter an error.
This error turns my attention to the log file :
This log file is extensive and I do not wish to post pages of code unless requested. The configuration does however list that "a different driver is in use". I have scoured threads to ensure that I have not posted a question that has been answered to no avail. Please bear in mind that I am in my Linux infancy and my grasp of this incredible operating system is cursory at best.
This is an Acer Aspire 5720, with a "Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller". Although I initially though this was a problem with my installation, so I ran both the Maverick and recent Natty live cds and the s video out only functioned on the Maverick cd. The computer acts as if there is another monitor, but the TV does not display one.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just built my PC and loaded ubuntu on it. When the ubuntu desktop comes up everything looks ok. but when I click on any of the drop down menus, or anything else for that matter, the computer freezes immediately. I,ve tried copying the iso boot file to a new cd and reloading ubuntu but the problem remains. I've also tried removing one of the two ram sticks but again, the problem remains.

I can't get the flash plug-in to work properly. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 x64, which I think might be the issue. It seems to be able to run flash games and videos etc. but it won't let me interact with it. So if I want to pause the video, I can't or if it doesn't automatically start, I can't watch it. With games, it runs, but I can't click on it at all.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have tested Icedtea and sun java on 10.04, but I'm not able to play [url]
Sun gets closest, but still fails. I use ver. 1.6.0_20. Is there any way I can download/save the java applet from the web-page and open it with sun java 6 web start ?
I'm using the 10.04 Netbook Edition on an ASUS EeePC 1005HA. Earlier, I had 9.10 Netbook Remix installed. Under 9.10NR, the webcam worked wonderfully in Cheese. Once I upgraded to 10.04NE, the webcam became sluggish to the point where it is now unusable. In video mode it captures about 1 frame per five seconds. Under 9.10NR, it regularly captured 60 fps.
Did the driver package for webcams change significantly between 9.10 and 10.04? I can't think of anything else that would cause this issue due to an OS upgrade.
i am using ubuntu 10.10. Video players are not working properly i mean color spectrum is not proper, i uninstallied Gstreamer plugins and again reinstalled but no use.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI had installed pavucontrol in Ubuntu 10.04 to record the sounds being played on the system, by changing the "Record stream for" value to "Monitor of Internal Audio Analog Stereo". I installed pavucontrol in Maverick as well, but here it doesn't capture and show the sounds being played at all, not even in playback (No sound meter bar activity below each entry). The sound can still be decreased/increased and it shows all the devices playing back or recordong. Also if I change the hardware to "Digital duplex" from Analog stereo Duplex" it starts capturing and showing the streams, but then I can't hear anything from the speakers. I even compiled the newest pavucontrol, but still the same.

I just got done with a fresh install of 11.04. So far I like the new update and face lift. The only thing I do not like is that I can not use my laptops WiFi I have a Compaq Presario V5101US. Below info is from doing lspci command in the terminal...

I have setup a second machine with slackware 13.37, it is a "supermicro" which I picked up though my work. the idea was to set it up as a gateway and gradually expand my knowledge of sub networking, iptables, forwarding and the like. after a couple nights of forum searching and "o'reilly" book reading I am still unable to get a proper route working thru the "supermicro" to our dsl router.
What is setup?: I will start from my main machine simply calling it slackbox
slackbox: has two ethernet cards which i have given static ip's to
eth0 192.168.2.16 and eth1 192.168.3.11
eth0 (192.168.2.16) is connected to a switch and then to our dsl router, it is working, I am using right now to work on this forum.
eth1 (192.168.3.11) is connected to the "supermicro" thru a cross-over cable, it also is working, pinging the "supermicro" works.
default gateway on slackbox is set to be 192.168.3.10 (the supermicro)
I only set slackbox's default as 192.168.3.10 when testing to see if the supermicro gateway will work
supermicro: also has two ethernet cards which i have given static ip's to
eth0 192.168.3.10 (this is the card with the cross-over cable connected)
pinging 192.168.3.11 (the slackbox) works.
eth1 192.168.2.24 is connected to our switch as well, it is working, pinging our dsl router works.
default gateway on supermicro is set in rc.inet.conf to be 192.168.2.1 (which is our dsl router)
All my machines have two ethernet cards. This has just made it easy for me to test the setup while still having internet access on slackbox. Yet when testing the gateway from slackbox thru supermicro I am getting "Destination Host Unreachable".
I am trying to uninstall/reinstall banshee. It is not playing nice with my setting sine yesterday.I can't even change the login name of my last.fm account within banshee anywhere.Everytime I uninstall/reinstall it, banshee just continues to reuse my non-working settings.
