Networking :: Cannot Seem To Setup Gateway To Route Properly

I have setup a second machine with slackware 13.37, it is a "supermicro" which I picked up though my work. the idea was to set it up as a gateway and gradually expand my knowledge of sub networking, iptables, forwarding and the like. after a couple nights of forum searching and "o'reilly" book reading I am still unable to get a proper route working thru the "supermicro" to our dsl router.

What is setup?: I will start from my main machine simply calling it slackbox
slackbox: has two ethernet cards which i have given static ip's to
eth0 192.168.2.16 and eth1 192.168.3.11
eth0 (192.168.2.16) is connected to a switch and then to our dsl router, it is working, I am using right now to work on this forum.
eth1 (192.168.3.11) is connected to the "supermicro" thru a cross-over cable, it also is working, pinging the "supermicro" works.
default gateway on slackbox is set to be 192.168.3.10 (the supermicro)

I only set slackbox's default as 192.168.3.10 when testing to see if the supermicro gateway will work
supermicro: also has two ethernet cards which i have given static ip's to
eth0 192.168.3.10 (this is the card with the cross-over cable connected)
pinging 192.168.3.11 (the slackbox) works.
eth1 192.168.2.24 is connected to our switch as well, it is working, pinging our dsl router works.
default gateway on supermicro is set in rc.inet.conf to be 192.168.2.1 (which is our dsl router)

All my machines have two ethernet cards. This has just made it easy for me to test the setup while still having internet access on slackbox. Yet when testing the gateway from slackbox thru supermicro I am getting "Destination Host Unreachable".

I am running 10.04 and am trying to add a route to a remote network using a gateway that is NOT on the local subnet. I am not messing with the default GW as all the other posts I can find are. I am using public IP addresses, but all of this is contained behind a firewall. I need to add a route to a private network (192.168.1.x) that is behind a router attached to a different subnet. The current routing table looks like this:

The remote network is 192.168.1.0/24 and it is reachable via xxx.xxx.37.203. I can ping the gateway no problem. However when I try to add a route to this network I get an error.
route add -net 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw xxx.xxx.37.203
SIOCADDRT: No such process
I assume this is because the GW is not on the local subnet. When I try this on a machine that is connected to the xxx.xxx.37 network, everything works fine and I can reach the remote network. I even tried adding a static route to the gateway, but that did not help.
route add -host xxx.xxx.37.203 gw xxx.xxx.108.49

My workstation is on a network, let's say 10.100.0.0/24. I'm opening up an openVPN Tunnel to a test environment in my company, receiving a lot of routes to this network (address range 172.xx.yy.0). Everything is working fine so far. In this test environment I placed a number of virtual systems having their own private network (10.99.0.0/24). I have one machine in this virtual cluster which is able to forward incoming IP traffic to the others.

When I login to this gateway system, using the 172.xx.yy.zz address, I can logon to the others using the 10.99.aa.bb addresses. Fine so far. But I have to be able to call these machines with the 10.99.0.0/24 addresses from my laptop. So I tried to add a route like:
route add -net 10.99.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 172.xx.yy.zz

Unfortunately I received an error messages:
SIOCADDRT: No such process

According to the entries in other forum articles (Google helps in most cases), I have to add a host route first:
route add -host 172.xx.yy.zz gw 172.well.defined.dest

I have recently set up two machines with F14 and on both, I am completely unable to make remote login via SSH work. openssh-server is installed and seems to work well:

I have already worked for hours on the problem now, using Google and trying numerous things, and still could not find any solution. On my other machine, which still uses F13, remote login works just fine. Is there any change in the default behaviour of the sshd I am not aware of? I would really appreciate your assistance!

I need to setup two ethernets in my Centos box. OK no problem both ethernet and 1 virtual works perfect. eth0, eth1 and eth1:0. I'm trying to set up diferent routes for eth0 and eth1/eth1:0 I need eth0 has a 192.168.1.1 gateway and eth1/eth1:0 192.168.1.100 gateway.I think I've tried almost every thing but always get one gateway for all the eth.These are my config..

I want it so any inbound traffic from dsl goes back out the dsl and same for rogers. I've been searching and playing with many docs with no luck.

I've been trying to setup an IPSec connection between two routers, but am having trouble with the actual packet routing.

My setup currently is two local networks (192.168.1.0/24[netLANA] and 192.168.0.0/24[netLANB]) that are connected to their own routers (192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1 respectively). The routers are both connected to the 194.26.1.0/24[netWAN] network. I wish to setup an IPSec connection between the two routers, to act in tunnel mode between the two local networks.

The first router is a linux box (on the netLANA network) that I am setting up using the ipsec-tools, and the other is a Netgear ProSafe FVS318G (on the netLANB). I've set them both up to have the same configuration for IPSec. Also, on the linux router I have setup a route like this:

$ route add -net 192.168.1.0/24 wlan0

So that all traffic destined for the netLANB network will be routed to the wlan0 interface (netWAN in this case, and therefore over the tunnel).

My problem is that if I ping from any host on netLANA, I can see the ICMP reply comes back to the linux router, but it doesn't get back to the original host.

From the linux router, here is the tcpdump of the ping:

So I have two network Interfaces

eth0 - NAT behind a router
eth1 - Public IP

When ever I restart the machine, both interfaces pull a IP, but the it randomly chooses eth0 or eth1 to have the gateway. I want the gateway to be eth0 always.

Is there some file or setting I can modify in Fedora10 that will always choose 192.168.1.1 on eth0 as the default gateway?

setup 2 gateway in my email server(opensuse).

now i wan to setup 2 internet lines for my email server, which mean that either one of the line is down, i still can receive mail from another line.

Example
Internet line 1 = ISP1
Internet line 2 = ISP2

my email server got 3 nic which...

eth0 = 192.168.1.2 (255.255.255.0) (from ISP1 GW 192.168.1.1)
eth1 = 192.168.2.2 (255.255.255.0) (from ISP2 GW 192.168..2.1)
eth2 = 168.168.1.2 (255.255.0.0) (connect to local LAN)

now existing GW set on the server is 192.168.1.1, mail receive and send through ISP1. now we wish to set somethings that once the ISP1 line is down, the server will auto switch to ISP2 gateway and continue send and receive mail without manually change of settings

I have been searching google for a while now and have not found exactly what I am looking for. I would like to use my fresh install of ubuntu server 11.04 as my router/gateway for my home. I am not an expert at linux by any means but I can usually figure stuff out. I believe I need iptables, bind, and a few others probally. It eventually will also be a samba server but I have done a little with samba before. I do have 2 network cards, my router at the moment is starting to die and would love to have a more powerful router. I would also like to figure out how to do port forwarding in the router, as well as be able to see the load on the network cards. Maybe there is a program to show usage by user? As well as be able to do packet pritorization.

I'm trying to setup routes for a gateway that resides on a different subnet. Our ISP leased us a block of IPs and told us to route through the current gateway, which is on a different subnet than our current block of addresses. To test, I've enabled one of the new addresses on one of the existing machines, which works. That machine has an address on the same subnet as the gateway, however.

The gateway address is 24.111.1.177 One of the new addresses I'm trying to use is 96.2.192.130, netmask= 255.255.255.240, broadcast= 96.2.192.143 Obviously, I can't just specify that gateway in /etc/network/interfaces without some routing, which is where the trouble I'm having is. The machine I'm trying to set this up on is part of 2 networks - one internal, on two different NICs.

I have 3 network interfaces on my Linux Router :

Interface - Gateway - Type

br0 - 192.168.0.1 - Internet
eth2 - 192.168.1.1 - LAN
tun0 - 10.0.0.2 - VPN (via br0)

What I'd like to do is to route all TCP packets coming from eth2 to tun0 where a VPN client is running on 10.0.0.2. If I delete all default routes and if I add a new route to tun0 like :

Everything is fine, and everyone on eth2 can reach the Internet using the VPN access. Now the problem is that my VPN client does not allow any other protocols other than TCP. And I also want to allow VPN access only to eth2, no other LAN nor the router itself. use iptables to filter any TCP packets and mark them, so they can be sent to tun0, while any other packets can reach the Internet via br0 (192.168.0.1). I found on the Internet that we can mark packets before they get routed. Using the following commands :

iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -j MARK --set-mark 85 -i eth2 -p tcp --dport 80
ip route add table 300 default via 10.0.0.2 dev tun0
ip rule add fwmark 0x55 table 300

First of all, --dport 80 never work... :/ I wanted to filter TCP 80 packets coming from eth2, but none of them seems to be HTTP packets... oO (very strange...). Nevermind, I decided to forget about the --dport option. I use the "iptables -L -v -t mangle" command to see how many packets are marked, and it is working fine, all TCP packets coming from eth2 are marked. Now the problem is that none of them are routed to tun0 they are all respecting the "route -n" rules... and not the "table 300" rule I have created.

Having trouble getting my Netgear WNA1000 working thru wireless router. Have tried lots of suggestions from other threads to no avail. Someone suggested that th routing table isn't set correctly, so have been trying to use the follwing to make the proper entry in the routing table: sudo route add -net 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 dev wlan0

Result: error message stating with:
"route: netmask does not match route address"

followed by "Usage" instructions which tell me to do what I just did. Any ideas on how I can populate my routing table with correct entry for my wireless card? Not to complicate matters, but I temporarily turned off encryption on my router to eliminate that as a possibility until I get connected. So maybe it'still trying to connect via encrypted mode - do I need to turn off encryption on my (client) end?

I recently acquired a Gateway with a Radeon video adapter in it.I've tried both the proprietary and open drivers.I've followed the installation instructions here: https:[url]........to no avail. I know that my video adapter is compatible with Ubuntu, because I have seen the explode/fade effect on launcher buttons -- until I reboot.I have even seen all of the screensavers working properly, again, until I reboot.Is there a config file not being set up properly?Additionally, this is what Gateway says about the video adapter:

I would like to update my network setup.

Today, I have an ADSL box which is my gateway to internet (192.168.0.1).

I have a Raspberry pi (RPI) which I use as a dhcp & dns server (192.168.0.2).

Recently my mobile phone operator installed a 4G antenna beside my home, and the bandwidth and latency are much better with my mobile phone than with my internet provider (ADSL).

I would like to install a wifi dongle on my RPI (I would get wlan0 & eth0 interfaces)

When RPI detect my shared phone connection (tethering) I would like RPI to automatically route internet:

- from authorized devices on my network to my mobile connexion (wlan0 -> mobile phone).
- from other devices to the standard ADSL internet (eth0 -> ADSL box).

I don't want any device to use the shared 4G connexion, best would be authorized devices to be selected by MAC address. How I should properly setup such a network ?

I have set up qmailtoaster as a gateway for exchange.

my smtproutes contain this:
thedomain.com:mail.exchange.com
and my rcpthosts contain:
thedomain

The problem I am facing now is, the exchange was able to send mails through me alright. But when mails come in, qmailtoaster is suppose to forward the mails to the exchange server but it is not, rather the mails are sitting in the toaster's queue.

General :: Backup / Setup A Second VPN Tunnel On A Fallback Gateway / Firewall On The Client Side

I've set up a Lan-to-Lan (routed) OpenVPN tunnel. For redundancy I want to set up a second VPN tunnel on a fallback gateway/firewall on the client side. Currently, both sides (server/client) know how to route packets across each others physical LAN. So no NAT is used. When the primary gateway (fw1) is connected to the VPN server all traffic runs via the fw1 tunnel. Than when the secondary gateway (fw2) connects to the VPN server and fw1 is still connected all traffic for fw1 will be delivered to fw2 and effectively destroying traffic intended for fw1. This is of course no problem if I first shutdown (fence) fw1, than set up fw2 to use the gateway IP address from fw1 and set up the VPN tunnel to the VPN server. Effectively replacing fw1 with fw2 on the client side.
However, I can't seem to find a decent howto.

I am also exploring the possibility to let both tunnels active and let OpenVPN (or another tool) decide how to route packets back and forth the different LANs. A virtual IP between two gateway's both running a VPN or something similar. This would be the preferred method of course. However, I don't know how to tackle this one but I'm pretty sure there are people out there who are happy to share their 2 cents.

I just installed ubutnu 9.10 and just installed samba. I edited the config files to workgroup to dhome which is the work group all my windows comptuer uses to share files. I want to share files and also be able to access files off my windows computers. I got onne windows 2000 that has a username needed to be typed in to access it. the rest is accessable. In the config file. I uncommented the security= user thing. I now tried to access the network but still fails.

Here is what I can see. when I go to places and click network I see windows network and click it it will say dhome and Workgroup. when I click on the dhome folder it takes a while and then gives me the error saying sorry didnt' get a list from the server. what do I need to do to access the network?
