Ubuntu Multimedia :: Video Players Not Working Properly?
Oct 29, 2010
i am using ubuntu 10.10. Video players are not working properly i mean color spectrum is not proper, i uninstallied Gstreamer plugins and again reinstalled but no use.
I installed VLC on my openSUSE. After Mplayer and SMplayer. When I try to play movie VLC is closing. Mplayer freezing. SMplayer freezing and no sound...
I am using Ubuntu 9.10 dual booted with XP on a laptop. Whenever I try to play any video files, even just bog standard avi files, the media player just shuts down and disappears. This has happened with the movie player that comes with the OS as well as VLC. I also tried out Dragon Player and the files seem to load up and when played the timeline slider just skips across to the end in about 5 seconds but no picture is shown during this time. The codecs all appear to be installed fine even though I know that VLC doesn't require them. My video card is ATI and I know that it works fine as these files play alright when booted up into XP, Hi-Def included.
all HD video lags. Slightly, but constantly. You can watch movies, but it's annoying.
My PC - intel i3, integrated 4500 vga and 4GB RAM, Ubuntu 11.04 64bit. CPU usage is around 30-70% and disk load is low.
Typical performance tweaks like "skip loops - all" and read buffer size doesn't affect current condition. In Ubuntu 10.10 everything worked flawlessly.
PS. whether 4500 gpu acceleration should work in Ubuntu 11.04 by default? I can't set it up...
I've seen several threads in Ubuntu regarding implementing vaapi/xvba enabled media players for ATI GPU rendering. Does anyone know of any precompiled rpms for 11.3 (or tips for building on opensuse). I've installed Hellgasts xvba-video-amd rpms from the build service. I wasn't able to successfully build my own mplayer-vaapi from Index of /~gbeauchesne/mplayer-vaapi.
I like SuSE, I even got certified as admin of it but i'm going crazy every time when i want to watch some video. It's more easy to install and maintain some services then make suse play video. I'm going crazy when every player says to me that it doesn't contain any codecs. I heard i'ts all about licensing.. So, why doesn't Ubuntu havn't any problem to play my mp4 and other video formats just from the box?My case is regular.. No way to play mp4 in totem, banshee, xine no h264 decoder.
Of late my music players (vlc, rythmbox, movieplayer, audacious) are ALL not working. Even indicator applets are messy. I have tried time and again to fix them but am lost. I have very little knowledge of ubuntu stuff and I have to use it since its the office preferred OS.
When i got to a site such as You Tube of South Park Studios the vidio playes fine but the pause, play , fullscreen ect... Buttons dont work unless it click on them multiple times!
I downloaded the mplayer essential codecs pack and extracted in directories mentioned.I even compiled mplayer and it can play now almost all the files. But I am having a problem. The problem is that other multimedia players dont play even a single file.I tried with xine, totem, kaffiene and every bundled player.
I can't get the flash plug-in to work properly. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 x64, which I think might be the issue. It seems to be able to run flash games and videos etc. but it won't let me interact with it. So if I want to pause the video, I can't or if it doesn't automatically start, I can't watch it. With games, it runs, but I can't click on it at all.
I have tested Icedtea and sun java on 10.04, but I'm not able to play [url]
Sun gets closest, but still fails. I use ver. 1.6.0_20. Is there any way I can download/save the java applet from the web-page and open it with sun java 6 web start ?
I'm using the 10.04 Netbook Edition on an ASUS EeePC 1005HA. Earlier, I had 9.10 Netbook Remix installed. Under 9.10NR, the webcam worked wonderfully in Cheese. Once I upgraded to 10.04NE, the webcam became sluggish to the point where it is now unusable. In video mode it captures about 1 frame per five seconds. Under 9.10NR, it regularly captured 60 fps.
Did the driver package for webcams change significantly between 9.10 and 10.04? I can't think of anything else that would cause this issue due to an OS upgrade.
I had installed pavucontrol in Ubuntu 10.04 to record the sounds being played on the system, by changing the "Record stream for" value to "Monitor of Internal Audio Analog Stereo". I installed pavucontrol in Maverick as well, but here it doesn't capture and show the sounds being played at all, not even in playback (No sound meter bar activity below each entry). The sound can still be decreased/increased and it shows all the devices playing back or recordong. Also if I change the hardware to "Digital duplex" from Analog stereo Duplex" it starts capturing and showing the streams, but then I can't hear anything from the speakers. I even compiled the newest pavucontrol, but still the same.
I am trying to uninstall/reinstall banshee. It is not playing nice with my setting sine yesterday.I can't even change the login name of my last.fm account within banshee anywhere.Everytime I uninstall/reinstall it, banshee just continues to reuse my non-working settings.
I was streaming a video when suddenly I got a warning that a script was running. I closed the browser and then the computer became really slow.I re-started my computer and had mounting problems. That is fixed now. However, my vlc and other players are not functioning properly. Moreover, whenever I stream a video, it always gets stuck and becomes slow. This has been persisting for quite sometime now.
This is a very new desktop system using an ASUS mainboard with built on sound. I've never had sound working properly and have re-installed many times. One sound will play (KDE4 desktop sound, Amarok audio, even games under WINE) but when a second sound plays, it stops the first one (and plays perfectly), but then the first app is no longer able to play sound. I tried to get Skype going today and have some very interesting results.
It works but on a test call my voice sounds like I'm going for the "Extortionist of the Year" award! Have a listen here if you feel like a quick laugh - [URL]. Great effect for issuing ransom demands, but not too useful when calling family. I recorded it via my camera so the quality is not fabulous, and the screeching noise is the from the birds in the background. Here is the requested information for diagnosing sound problems -
What software(exceping drivers) do you need for maximum performance with blu-ray movies or .mkv files? Is there any place I can find linux codecs or video players? I'm using Slackware64 13.37
So, help me through getting my audio working properly on my Toshiba Satellite A105-S2081 Laptop. I think I've been through most of the help messages and tried many things to get it working correctly. The ONLY thing that has helped is to go to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and change model=auto to model=generic. (options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_controller=N model=generic)
I've tried model=toshiba, model=auto, model=lenovo, model=3stack, model=dallas and the laptops internal sound device disappears from the list of sound devices. If I plug in my Logitech Headset, it seems to work fine.It also seems to work fine if I boot it up into XP SP3.It does work now generally with model=generic, but not sure that everything works properly, like the headset & microphone jack. (Actually the reason I have the Logitech Headset is because the headset jack doesn't work).
Using Debian stable. 64-Bit. I can play videos and music using Totem and VLC. And I can play audio files with audacious and Rhythmbox. And I can play flash in firefox and google-chrome. But, if I open audacious and then play a flash file in Firefox or google-chrome audacious crashes as well as other multimedia players that I have open such as Totem, VLC and/or Ryhthmbox.
Would like to know if you can offer some troubleshooting steps to take so that I can play a flash file in a browser and still play an mp3 file in the audio player without having to kill those processes and restart.
I can't seem to figure out how to get the S-Video output working on my T41, and most of the info that I seem to be finding is for older versions before xrandr so files and settings don't seem to match.
I know that it's not a hardware/cable problem because this exact setup works fine under windows (even though there i'm working with a hacked video driver setup since one doesn't exist for any of the "modern" versions of windows, ati radeon 7500 (mobile))
I am new to Ubuntu & I just upgraded to the 10.4 version. It will not allow me to play any videos on the internet. I have attempted to download Flashplayer & it comes up with an error. I have downloaded the Ubuntu recommended extras file and the videos still don't work.
I'm having trouble to find the right ffmpeg options to encode a video that can be read on a htc G1 cell phone. I have used several codecs and formats but none is working.
I have followed these instruction to install ffmpeg and x264 [URL]
Here is my ffmpeg config :
Code: FFmpeg version SVN-r24953, Copyright (c) 2000-2010 the FFmpeg developers built on Aug 27 2010 22:44:01 with gcc 4.4.1 configuration: --enable-gpl --enable-version3 --enable-nonfree --enable-postproc --enable-libfaac --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libopencore-amrnb --enable-
I killed windows and jumped to Ubuntu after thinking about it. I know windows systems very well and been on the PC starting in the DOS age.
First off. I think I have everything going. I had issues with the display and sound. I got the sound working thanks to these forums...but I have "tossed" some code in the command window that I have no clue what it does or if it worked.
I would like to know if my nVIDIA cards are working correctly. My goal is to use WINE or Play On Linux and get World of Warcraft up and going... along with MS OFFICE 2010.
Im still learning the system and where what is so please go slow. What Do I need to do to get system information for help? ANd to check to make sure drivers are loaded and working?
i7 CPU 12 GIG DDR3 PC 15,0000 3 Raptor Drives 10kRPM in Raid 0 1 250 GIG 7200RPM storage drive 2 nVIDIA 285's in SLI 1600W PSU
I have ubuntu 9.10. Video is working , but sound not working. When I type, sudo aplay -l, a message **** List of Playback Hardware Devices **** shown. But there is no list. My computer is Intel 810 onboard sound AC '97 (codec ) system. More information in this page: [URL]
I have a movie CD which works on windows but not on ubuntu. It has vcdplay.exe. (Probably that is the reason it doesn't work on ubuntu) I tried with wine roxio. Doesn't work. I have tried with xine, gxine, vlc and movie player. Inside the vcd, it has an mpegv folder. Inside the mpegv folder there is file avesq.dat. I tried copying it on to desktop, but it wont copy properly and I can't rename the file to just avesq instead of avesq.dat.Any idea how can we make such an auto run CD work on ubuntu?
