Ubuntu Multimedia :: GLX Not Loaded Automatically?
Feb 11, 2010
I am unable to use k3d or blender due to a weird graphics related problem. It says glx is not loaded. I tried to put Load "glx" line in my xorg.conf but no success
Even glxinfo and glxgears complain for the extension glx
Quote:

Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".

I am writing this second topic to know how I can have hamachi automatically loaded at startup of PC (with fedora 10) without having to manually start. I tried several scripts but nothing works .
I just updated both my KDE 3.5.10 and KDE 4.5 today (OpenSuse 1.11). The problem that I have now is that the Plasma Desktop is loaded automatically after KDE 3.5 has started. So, depending on where I click or what I do, plasma and kdesktop fight for the control of my desktop.
I searched in every corners of my KDE 3.5 --and a bit in KDE 4 since somebody forced kdm4 on me-- but I haven't found who or what starts "plasma-desktop". Definitively not me! I can kill it safely but that's very irritating.
I loaded RubyRipper today so I can rip some music, but don't know where it went. I extracted it, but don'y know what to do now. If it is not a straightforward install, where I just click install and it does the rest, I am lost. What do I look for, and what do I do?
I've Ubuntu 9.10 with 2.6.31-20 kernel.Sound kernel module is loaded, but doesn't works ;((. I have not got any errors and all programs (e.g. mplayer) thinks that sound driver is present and works OK but I can't hear a sound...A part from lspci -vvnn
I have installed RipperX and the Lame MP3 encoder, as well as Oggenc. I noticed that Ripperx plugins are loaded at boot. The thing which concerns me is that there are multiple instances of a plugin witht the same name showing in system monitor( or ps command). There are about 15 processes alone with the name "plugin-Lame."
Here's the output of ~$ ps x
Code:
Are these actually different? Or do I really have redundant instances running? I'm concerned because I have an old system with limited RAM, and all the plugins together make an impact. If they are all neccessary and needed for RipperX, is there a way to have them load up when RipperX is started, rather than at boot-time?
I would like to do something which I guess is pretty common: convert my collection of CDs to good quality mp3, named according to artist-song and properly tagged. Having to rip hundreds of CDs (i am not rich, i just live in China! ) I would like this to be as automatic as possible, like: insert cd wait 4 minutes (sw gets tracks' name and tags from the internet, and rips) CD is ejected automaticallyinsert new cd ...and so on If I was on windows, i would probably be doing this with itunes. Juicer does not support MP3. I read great things about rubyripper, but i dont understand how to make it start automatically.
I have a little problem with audio in Jaunty. Specifically every time I launch an application that features audio playback (decibel audio player, firefox on .....) sound output auto-mutes. Getting sound back is as simple as pressing the mute button on my keyboard, but it's still a curious issue. Unfortunately I can't provide many more details about the issue, as I hadn't logged in Ubuntu for a couple of weeks, so when I finally did, it downloaded a bunch of updates at once and any one of those could be responsible for this change in behaviour. I'm posting this here in case it rings any bells.
The problem appears to exhibit varied behaviour for various applications. e.g.: Firefox: I need to un-mute once and then it appears to work normally, even if I restart the application. Decibel: Need to un-mute once every time I launch it and if I pause playback for more than a few minutes. Totem Movie Player: Need to un-mute every time I pause playback for more than a few seconds.
several programs , including cheese and multiget, get automatically closed a few moments after running. i replaced multiget with gwet- and gwet had no problem. with respect to cheese, i tried running it from terminal, and received error message.
Doesn't seem as straightforward in KDE, but I'd like to put my dvd's in and have VLC start them, i.e. open them to their features' menu automatically as I could in Gnome Can anyone describe me the steps clearly if this can be done? When I put a dvd in so far I get the right-hand options slide up in a box which mentions Dragon Player and K3b and so on. Dragon Player sems to get stuck if you accidentally hit the touchpad in the wrong place during a film, so I'd rather keep away from it
like the title says, after working in GIMP for, like, 5 minutes, my session suddenly closes and I have to login again. I have been looking a lot of time for a solution, but I've not seen anyone with this problem... does anyone of you have some kind of solution? I'm desperate. I really need to use it, and I don't want to use Wine+Photoshop, I don't like to rely on windows programs.
How is it possible to automatically play CDs and DVDs? I have found it not possible ..Is there a simple solution to this problem? and searching packages I find there is no libdvdcss package to install ...
I have a SteelSeries Siberia USB soundcard. I'd like to get pulseaudio to automatically recognize it and switch to it when I plug it in.
Currently I have to go alsamixer in terminal, select the device and turn it up (It's always at zero when I plug it in). When I do this I can't control the volume with the buttons on my laptop, i have to either control the volume in the media player or move it up and down in alsamixer.

I'm running 9.10 Karmic and using Blueman 1.2 with the latest bluez stack. I have a pair of Sony DR-BT100CX bluetooth headphones. I've got them paired and working with my system. When I turn them on I can click on the blueman icon and then select the DR-BT100CX device and then choose to connect the Audio Sink. As soon as I do this my Pulseaudio is redirected and all system output is driven through the headphones. This is great!
My only issue is that I have to select the device (I don't have to re-pair it) when I turn it on. On my Windows system when I turn on the headphones the bluetooth detects them and connects and then audio routes through the headphones. I don't have to click on anything.
Does anybody know how to remove the need to click on the device and add the sync. When I turn my bluetooth mouse on the system picks it up and starts using it, so I know this is possible. I just can't find a simple way to make this happen with the headphones.
In 10.04 when i plugged my HiFi into a USB port audio would automatically switch to play out of it.Now in 10.10 i need to plug my hifi in then go to 'sound preferences'>'output' and select USB codec as my output AND unmute the device.Does anyone know of a way to revert to 10.04 behaviour?
I have several videos (around 50) of varying resolutions aspect and varying aspect ratios that all need to be down converted to be playable on iOS and Android. Some videos are 4x3 some are 16x9 and some are 2.35x1. I want to write a script to convert all of these to a 360P version in one go. That means the 4x3 will be 480x360 the 16x9 will be 640x360 and the 2.35 will be 640x272.Is there a feature in FFMPEG that will automatically do the calculations for me?
I think I have multiple versions of flash installed on my computer, because each time I restart Firefox it reverts back to Flash 9 and I can't view hulu videos and ..... videos don't play at all. The ..... videos show up, but there's no sound and they freeze after a few seconds and firefox freezes and gets the error message "failed to allocate memory" in the command line.
How do I get netjack to automatically patch to the (physical) system outputs when it connects to jackd?
Currently I have to open qjackctl manually and route netjack every time I log in. Is there a terminal interface for jackd or a special switch arg on netjack so I may automate this from a script?
I am writing from lucyd. When I insert a blank CD opens a Nautilus window that asks me what program I want to use to open the CD. The last time I chose cd creator, and thereafter it no longer asks me what to do. How can I change this?In other words how can I choose another program to open automatically blank cds??
I currently have a little box with Mediatomb installed which I use to stream to my Linn DS. Is there an application that I can use that will automatically rip a CD when it is inserted into the machine and then eject when it is complete?
I set up a data project to burn a bunch of files onto a CD. I want to backup the files. I went to edit > plugins and selected "File Checksum" and set it to SHA1. Will Brasero now automatically (as part of the burning process) calculate and then compare the SHA1 for the file on the HDD with the file that is burned to the CD? If the two SHA1 comparisons do not match then Brasero will kick up a dialog window alerting me? Do I understand how this works correctly? as long as the plugin is enabled this is all automatic? Is the "Image Checksum" plugin only in use when I am burning an ISO?
I have a couple of large-format printers (Epson R2400, HP 9650) which I only use infrequently. If they are not used very often, they dry out, the print heads get packed up, it's an expensive mess to deal with when times comes to run off some prints. The printers are physically connected to a Windows machine to which my Ubuntu computer is networked. It would be helpful if there was a utility that could initiate a test page print job on the machines, which could be scheduled to run once a week or so. I've had no luck finding such a thing for Windows
I've recently got a HDTV LCD display (BenQ SD3742), and a nettop (Acer revo 3610) to go with it. I connected them using an HDMI cable, and I installed the latest Ubuntu 10.04 64 bits edition.I then installed the latest nvidia drivers (nvidia-current package, which is nvidia-glx-195) to support nVidia ION platform using this ppa: https://launchpad.net/~nvidia-vdpau/+archive/ppaAccording to various websites, my LCD is FullHD, so I should be able to select 1920x1080 resolution. But the automatically selected resolution is 1280x768, and in nVidia configuration panel, this resolution is stated as being "native resolution" for my screen (its name is correctly detected by Ubuntu, by the way!).If I select 1920x1080 and "Apply", the resolution is changed but the borders of my desktop are not available... and the image looks deformed anyway. Is there any way to make Ubuntu to detect properly this LCD display in its real native resolution (FullHD, 1920x1080)?
I searched the forums for a long time and could not found any relevant informationI am new to ubuntu (10.10 64bit) and I just want to know if it is possible, like it is in win7 (sorry!), if I can plug in my hdmi cord and have the laptop speakers and display disable, and have the external display and its spears enabled.
I am having trouble getting grub to automatically boot into ubuntu server. When I turn on my server the grub menu shows up and shows me the choices. They all work fine except that grub wont automatically select one. This wouldn't be too much of a problem but this is a headless server and I can't boot into ubuntu without a keyboard. I tried looking through the grub 2 documentation but nothing seemed to work when I edited the conf file.
I have avi, mpeg etc files associated with SMplayer. When I double click a file SMplayer DOES lunch but it never starts the playback. Not even the play key is active, and the seek bar and volume bar are frozen. If I go Open-->File and chose a file, everything works great.
