View 1 RepliesJust when I thought I was getting my Ubuntu 10.04 system stabilized and really usable, the webcam magically stopped working. When I first installed 10.04, the webcam worked perfectly right out of the box. Tonight, I tried to start the video in a Skype conversation, and nothing. Video preferences in Skype showed no options for a camera. Rebooting the machine didn't help.
The one relevant thing I can think of that happened between the last time it worked and tonight is installing a number of updates. I'm not sure how to look up which packages were installed when -- I'm happy to run commands if someone can provide them.
Unfortunately, I don't remember how it was configured before. Since it was working, I didn't look at /dev to see where the camera shows up. At the moment, there is no /dev/video*. Clearly the system doesn't recognize that the camera is there, but it did before.. I don't recall device specifics. I looked online for a spec sheet that would say who is the webcam manufacturer, but I can only find the resolution. Tomorrow I have to boot into Windows to do some other work and I can get hardware info then. The machine is an MSI A6200 220US; the specs seem not to be available on MSI's website anymore.
I just upgraded to 10.04 RC 64bit and cannot start firefox anymore but get the following message back
Quote:

if i rename my .mozilla folder and start a new profil, firefox will start but crash if you click on a flash video or whatever. moreover I relly need my profile, stored passwords, bookmarks. this is probably a crazy flash problem again but please do not redirect me to [URL]... this is a bug in 10.04 as it worked in 9.10 before and I would feel very uncomfortable to install some unmaintained random files the very first day I use a LTS version .
any ideas how to get firefox working (even without flash as flash works in opera without problems).(and no, I will not create a bugreport in the launchpad; there are already sooo many about flash and flash64 adding just a new one will not help anybody and i am just trying to get firefox started)
I've spent the better part of a day off working on this. I can't pinpoint the problem, either.I've removed *every* flash package in synaptic and installed:
File: /usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libflashplayer.so
Version:
Shockwave Flash 10.1 r53
I've rebooted, removed, purged, installed, reinstalled. rebooted. rebooted.I've tried flash-aid.If I remove ALL flash,..... correctly says the plugin isn't installed. If I install adobe-flahplugin, I get a black box where the video should be.The only thing that worked is installing Google Chrome...where flash worked on the first freaking run. But I'm really partial to firefox and this is kind of really POing me.What I would like to know is if Firefox 3.6.6 and Flash 10.1 r53 WORK FOR ANYONE or if I'm just wasting my time???
In [URL] I can right-click on a flash video and have the option to access "local settings" under "Settings" to specify configuration for webcam, mic, etc. But in Facebook I need to adjust a setting and the "Setting" option for local config is gray-ed out, I can't access it.
I'm running OpenSUSE 11.4, and I've seen this in GNOME and KDE within Firefox.
Whats going on with Ubuntu One, in the pas few days.
The authorization is getting worse in the past few days, was asking me everytime I logged in. Now it is happen several times a day.
You cant even access the web side, you get a message saying:
OpenID failed
OpenID authentication failed: Nonce already used or out of range
I have KXstudio 64 installed, was changing the clock font and doing little, normal tweaks to the panel, pulled the edge in a little, and it just froze right there, and now the whole desktop is broken, unresponsive. Nothing works. I have yaquake terminal installed so i can access a terminal by hitting F12, and open applications that way, but no menu's, links, widgets, panel icons or anything are working at all, after rebooting, logging in as other user, nothing helps. I tried a apt-get install kdm or something like that, it didnt help tho.If the easiest thing to do is ditch the stupid buggy KDE desktop and switch to GNOME- then i'd prefer that.even while using the terminal, or applications opened thru it, it freezes periodically and i sit for a few minutes and it comes back. still no desktop tho.
View 8 Replies View Related/etc/udev/rules.d/20-our.rules has worked perfectly in FC6 and F10. In F11 I can't get udev to even look at it, much less execute the udev commands in it. Stat tells me that none of the relevant files have been accessed when I plug in a USB device that udevadm says was processed and which clearly matched the rules.. I reboot with several USB devices plugged in and according to stat nothing anywhere in /etc/udev was accessed during the boot process.

View 9 Replies View RelatedFor ages, I've been having problems getting my webcam to play with websites that use Flash. The cam works fine with programs like Camorama, but when I try to use it on a Flash site, Flash always crashes regardless of the browser used (Chrome, Firefox, Opera).
I used to use the workaround described here, but since upgrading to 11.04, even that doesn't work any more. I've tried installing the latest flash beta using the Firefox Flash-Aid plugin, to no effect.
I always get "no camera found" in camera tab in flash player settings . What can be the problem. My camera is working fine. I have flash player also installed and working absolutely fine.
I tried viewing my camera with "cheese" and i can perfectly see it. But i am unable to see it with Flash player. I visited ustream.tv to see if i can broadcast my video but it always shows "no camera found" in camera tab. How do i resolve this? I even tried solution posted in this thread [URL] :-
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so firefox &
But still it doesn't work. I also tried gkstreamer-properties and my webcam works just fine in video for linux 2.
I have been trying to solve this since 3 hours. Waiting for your replies
UPDATE :- i am now able to view my webcam using the command given above. But how do i the same for chrome? LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so chrome & doesn't work
Today I wanted to make my webcam work in a flash chat. I added myself to the video group and added export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so to my ~/.basrc file Then I loggued in again... and the problem is:
If I open a shell and start firefox from there (as a regular user), webcam will work ok. If I start Firefox from the top bar, it will NOT work. I checked preferences and it does not seem to do anything weird anybody has a clue? It seems weird to have that pretty top toolbar and not be able to use it.
I just installed a bunch of updates, and found Adobe Flash was suddenly broken. Both Chrome and Firefox report a missing plugin, even though Flash had been working perfectly with the flashplugin-nonfree package installed. So I uninstalled this package, and tried to manually download and install the package from Adobe's site, only to find they only offer 32-bit binaries, which appear to be incompatible with my 64-bit system.Has anyone else run into this problem? Why would an update suddenly break this functionality? How can I repair it?

So I tried to download adobe flashplayer from a site I'm not sure of, and it didn't install flashplugin-installer. My pc always bugs me about having a broken packet and i'm not able to download anything else because of it. I've tried for a long time now and visited like every site to try to get rid of it. It says "E: flashplugin-nonfree: Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should reinstall it before attempting a removal."
When I try to delete it in system package manager. And it says I need to do this "This package is a transitional package that can safely be removed after you installed flashplugin-installer." I can't find where to install this and when I did think I found the link I try to type my password for terminal and it just says sorry, try again for some reason. I got ubuntu yesterday so I am new to this.
I tried downloading flash from the official website and installing the rpm but it didn't do anything even though it installed properly. I tried looking for the 64bit flash but the download link is broken. Can I install a 32bit rpm of firefox?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an issue after the installation of debian 8.2 on an usb flash drive:
I had debian 8.2 and windows 8.1 running on a single SSD. Everything was fine. I wanted to install a second debian on a 32gb USB flash drive as a live system. After the installation I am not able to boot my debian (SSD) without the flash drive plugged in. I only get a grub rescue prompt. Booting windows still works. It is also possible to boot both debian systems if the USB drive is plugged in.
So it seems to me, that the debian bootloader was accidently installed to the USB flash drive and the original bootloader on the SSD does not work properly anymore. I used a netinst image from a second USB flash drive to install debian to the first USB flash drive.

I regret the day that I upgraded my Acer 751h from 9.10 to 10.04 as the video has never worked like it should. When I upgrade the GMA 500 driver it always will reboot and goes into a black screen. i do not know how to revert it back so I keep reinstalling the system hoping to get it right. Is there a up to date tutorial on this problem?

I've used this video conferencing web app on Windows 7 and it works perfectly. [URL] But I'm having flash problems. Flash doesn't load and the light at my webcam doesn't switch on at all. Things to note:Cheese works so I know my webcam in Ubuntu is functional. I've tried purging the flash plugin and reinstalling it. It doesn't work on Chrome and Firefox so it's definitely only a flash problem. I'm not using any medication so I know it isn't me just imagining it. EDIT: I checked out [URL] Here's a screenshot: [URL] I'll check back later, Charlie the Unicorn just rang my doorbell and invited me to tea on the magic hot air balloon. Definitely not hallucinating. Definitely. Definitely.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter two years worth of trying to get HDMI audio working on, what should be, a MythTV box I am now fed up to the teeth with it. Utterly, completely sick and dissilusioned with Ubuntu & HDMI. Firstly there is no problem with the hardware as I managed to get HDMI audio working using the original install of 9.04. However the sata DVD drive didn't work. So I waited until 10.04 and upgraded after which the DVD drive worked but HDMI audio didn't. So after a couple of months worth of trying everything I could find in forums etc. I gave up and waited for 10.10.
Months later and after installing 10.10 not only does HDMI audio not work but the soundcard details shown in "gnome-volume-control" now only lists a single analogue device whereas running from a 10.10 live CD I get a comprehensive list of available devices including entries SPDIF and HDMI. It's therefore obvious that something I've done in the huge list of things that I've changed has screwed up the audio configuration. And despite having reams of notes I'm in no position to find out exactly what as a) I'm not an expert in Linux audio (nor do I want to be) and b) there have simply been too many changes for me to keep track of.
how can I completely remove *ALL* traces of the current audio system and reinstall *EVERYTHING* related to audio using the latest versions ? I want to completely obliterate the current audio installation (including all configuration files, kernel headers, drivers, alsa, the wretched pulse audio etc. etc.) and start from scratch. I have already been through every sinlge HDMI related forum post and have tried everything so please don't suggest "make sure HDMI audio is unmuted in alsa-mixer" etc. as I've been there, tried that and am bored with it all. I want to completely nuke the audio system from orbit and start again. At this point I should say that I've already tried the following which didn't make any difference:
sudo rm /etc/asound.conf
rm ~/.*
sudo apt-get --purge remove linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils
sudo apt-get install linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils
And to prove that the device is there here's the output from "aplay":
aplay -l

Or should I just give up and install Windows media centre ? Having preformed a trial installation of Windows on a seperate disc everything "just works" with perfect HDMI audio, perfect picture, DVB card working perfectly, DVDs Playing etc. etc.
I installed Debian without desktop enviroment and then I aptitude installed fluxbox, everything worked fine, but I wanted to try LXDE so I purged fluxbox and installed LXDE.But my old computer is too slow now. I purged the LXDE, but it is still here and it didn`t remove as many packages as it installed them, I also removed lxde-core, but it continues to work.
How could I get back to non-desktop enviroment without reinstalling the whole system?
I have some cds that have tracks that run right into each other (ie one finishes and seamlessly moves into the next one without pause). How can I backup my cds retaining their original sound?Prior to Ubuntu days, I used to just rip in mediaplayer in windows and then use then use that playlist to burn to a cd.
