Ubuntu :: Adobe Flash Broken After Update?
Jun 23, 2010
I just installed a bunch of updates, and found Adobe Flash was suddenly broken. Both Chrome and Firefox report a missing plugin, even though Flash had been working perfectly with the flashplugin-nonfree package installed. So I uninstalled this package, and tried to manually download and install the package from Adobe's site, only to find they only offer 32-bit binaries, which appear to be incompatible with my 64-bit system.Has anyone else run into this problem? Why would an update suddenly break this functionality? How can I repair it?

I've spent the better part of a day off working on this. I can't pinpoint the problem, either.I've removed *every* flash package in synaptic and installed:
File: /usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libflashplayer.so
Version:
Shockwave Flash 10.1 r53
I've rebooted,removed, purged, installed, reinstalled. rebooted. rebooted.I've tried flash-aid.If I remove ALL flash,..... correctly says the plugin isn't installed.If I install adobe-flahplugin, I get a black box where the video should be.The only thing that worked is installing Google Chrome...where flash worked on the first freaking run. But I'm really partial to firefox and this is kind of really POing me.What I would like to know is if Firefox 3.6.6 and Flash 10.1 r53 WORK FOR ANYONE or if I'm just wasting my time???

You may know that there was a security release for Adobe Flash Plugin for Linux x86 but not for x86_64. There has been a development:
See : http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html
It works fine here. I have a Multilib Slack 13.1 stable.

I was wondering if anyone could answer my question. For some reason I've been trying to update my flash player and every time I try and do this from the terminal it tells me that the command can't be found, even though the zip file that contains the update is executable and my PATH has been set to include the directory that said file is in. I am running ubuntu 11 .04 and here [URL]...If there is any other way that I can execute the update?

I upgraded Opera to version 11.00, and also upgraded on my computer Adobe Flash to version 10.1.102.64 (or 65 if I recall). The Flash update reflects properly in Firefox and Google Chrome, but unfortunately it does not show up properly in Opera. It shows that Opera has 10.0.45.2 as the flash version. Why is this not updating with the Opera and Flash updates?

I just installed Ubuntu 9.04 again on my PC after a long time. Everything was working fine. No problems at all. After running all the necessary updates, I wanted to install Adobe Flash. This I did by going to Adobe's site. I selected the APT version for 9.04+. It was installing fine UNTIL there was a power cut. Since then I have been trying out various methods of repair suggested in these forums. But again and again get the same message:Quote:
W: GPG error: http://archive.canonical.com jaunty Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG 40976EAF437D05B5 Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key <ftpmaster@ubuntu.com>
W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems

Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 Today, 23.11.2010, the update manager did present two posts with adobe flash plugin updates at the top of the list.
Since I abhor adobe as much as m$, I never installed their flash plugin but did use gnash instead (which works sometimes, and sometimes not...)
So my first question was, why should I update a thing that I do not have and do not want ? Following I did UNcheck the checkbox of these two updates, which in my mind means that Update manager must NOT do these UNchecked updates, isn't it ?
I was terrified to observe that, even UNchecked, the adobe flash plugin has been installed against my will. I would have expected such arrogance from m$, but not from Ubuntu...
Of course, I went to synaptic immediately to uninstall this crap. Knowing how hard it is to get rid of flash under m$, I have some doubts about the fact if synaptic did really uninstall this crap cleanly and completely. I would not be astonished to find at least some remains on my HD one of these days. My current feeling is that nobody on earth can be trusted any more...
1. I would really like to know why these updates were listed in the update manager at all, when the thing to update was never installed before.
2. And I would like to know why they were dictatorially imposed, even though I did UNcheck them.

I'm trying to load the flash stuff in webpages, but it says i need the flash plugin.
I download the YUM rpm installer, and use yum localinstall to do it.
Terminal say: /home/wade/Download/adobe-release-i386-1.0-1.noarch.rpm: does not update installed package.
I have already tried installing it, and it says it worked fine, but I'm still unable to view flash.

I am running Ububtu Linux 10.04. When I attempt to install the latest version of the Adobe flashplayer (10.0.45.2ubuntu1), the Synaptic Package Manager (SPM) tries to remove flashplugin-nonfree and install flashplugin-installer. That fails with the message
Code:
E: flashplugin-nonfree: Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should reinstall it before attempting a removal. So, then I attempted to reinstall flashplugin-nonfree package but the SPM does not allow me to either install or remove the broken flashplugin-nonfree package. I tried the same things using the Ubuntu Software Center (USC) with the same failure.
Tried:
Code:
$ aptitude show flashplugin-nonfree
Code:
Package: flashplugin-nonfree
State: partially configured
Automatically installed: no
[code].....

For those running the native alpha 64 bit Linux flash plugin from Adobe, I have updated Romeo-Adrian Cioaba's script to download the current update, 10.0.45.2.
automating the use of the Adobe version of Flash for 64 bit Linux systems.
To run:
Download then cd to location where you saved the file (typically ~/Downloads) then:
Code:
chmod 700 native-64bit-flash-installer10.0.45.2.sh
./native-64bit-flash-installer10.0.45.2.sh

I was just wondering if there is an alternative to Adobe Flash. I just checked the Software Center and it told me that "there is no version for your architecture". As everyone is well aware a lot of sites are Flash heavy. Anyone have a solution? I am running Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic on a Dell Dimension E521 with AMD Athlon X2 4200+.

i am running ubuntu 10.04 i installed ubuntu restricted extras, and i went on videos. although i can view the video, i can't click on pause, the volume controls, or seek through the video, or put it into fullscreen mode. i went into the software center and searched "adobe flash player", and it came up with adobe flash plugin 10. it doesn't have an "install" button on it, so i double-clicked it, and it said " sorry, 'adobe flash plugin 10' is not available for this type of computer (amd64)."

Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit. I have "flashplugin-nonfree" installed running on this OS:
$ apt-cache policy flashplugin-nonfree
Code:
flashplugin-nonfree:
Installed: 10.1.53.64ubuntu0.10.04.1
Candidate: 10.1.53.64ubuntu0.10.04.1
Version table: 10.1.53.64ubuntu0.10.04.1 0 .....
I download "persistence-lesson01.zip" on [URL] and decompress it.
Code:
lesson01.html
lesson01.swf
ProductionInfo.xml
swfobject.js
On clicking "lesson01.html" it asks to "Download Adobe Flash Player". On completion of installation it popup "adobe-flashplugin is virtual".
I found following link:

and ran;
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sevenmachines/flash && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install flashplugin64-installer
and got the package installed. On clicking "lesson01.html" it asks to "Download Adobe Flash Player" again.
