Ubuntu Installation :: Flash Plugin Installer - Broken Package
Mar 14, 2010
So I tried to download adobe flashplayer from a site I'm not sure of, and it didn't install flashplugin-installer. My pc always bugs me about having a broken packet and i'm not able to download anything else because of it. I've tried for a long time now and visited like every site to try to get rid of it. It says "E: flashplugin-nonfree: Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should reinstall it before attempting a removal."
When I try to delete it in system package manager. And it says I need to do this "This package is a transitional package that can safely be removed after you installed flashplugin-installer." I can't find where to install this and when I did think I found the link I try to type my password for terminal and it just says sorry, try again for some reason. I got ubuntu yesterday so I am new to this.

Recently I installed fedora 13 it works fine in all aspects as per my need except flash player problems in firefox.. I tried to install flash using the following commands:
rpm -Uvh [URL]
then I updated the repositories then I typed,
yum install flash-plugin nspluginwrapper.{i386,x86_64} pulseaudio-libs.i386 alsa-plugins-pulseaudio.i386 libcurl.i386

I am a 'newbie' to ubuntu (with 45+ years as a 'computer nerd'). I am trying to follow the instructions for installing the Flash plug-in so I can view some of the action on webpages. I get on terminal and the prompt is mike@mike-laptop. The instructions say to key in "# rpm -Uvh <rpm_package_file>". I have tried as many variations of this command as I can think of with no response. I am assuming that my interpretation of <rpm_package_file> is incorrect.

In my frustration to get adobe flash working in firefox I deleted the /usr/lib/flash-plugin folder. Now when I try to uninstall "Flash-Plugin" from YAST it fails as it can't find the sub-folder. I also cannot install the latest version of flash player as it says that it is already installed - So I am stuck in a loop.
I am running SUSE 11.2.
Is there a config file of installed programs that I can modify to remove the "Flash-Plugin" entry, or is there another way to get over this problem.

I was having a problem with a fresh 11.04 install and the VPN software I use for work. I found the fix was to upgrade the software, so I downloaded an RPM, converted it to .deb and installed it via dpkg. The install worked and the VPN software now works, but Package Manager says I have a broken package and wants to 'upgrade' to the older broken one. How can I fix this without breaking my VPN SW again?

When I try to install something VIA Software center, there's always something else installing first. So, I chose the obvious thing, and ran sudo dpkg --configure -a. Here's what it fed me
Code:
joshua@joshua-laptop:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
[sudo] password for joshua:
Setting up sun-java6-doc (6-15-1) ...
This package is an installer package, it does not actually contain the JDK documentation. You will need to go download one of the archives:
jdk-6u10-docs.zip jdk-6u10-docs-ja.zip
(choose the non-update version if this is the first installation).
Please visit [URL] now and download. The file should be owned by root.root and be copied
to /tmp. [Press RETURN to try again, 'no' + RETURN to abort]. I went to the website and couldn't find either file.

I have a laptop which has Xubuntu on a Wubi install. I have no way to connect my laptop to the internet, as I have dial-up on my desktop and my laptop doesn't have a dial-up modem. I need to install "libc6" as a dependency for libc6-dev, but when I double click the .deb (which I transferred using an sd card using my desktop, which has Vista) It shows the window for a couple seconds, and then closes. I already have libc6 installed, but it is an older version.

I have the same machine and software as Carlsewell (software version: Eee pc 1.1.0.66; Biosversion 0802) and I followed this advice to the letter:
Paste this file into '.mozilla/plugins/' in your home directory - this is a hidden directory, so you'll have to select 'show hidden files' or similar from your file manager. restart firefox.

I am very new to Ubuntu, decided to try it again with the new 10.4. I really need to have flash player plugin installed, but I get this error:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
I even tried to go through the software center and the extra install through the help site from the firefox browser, but still get the error message.

I just updated my distribution to 11.3 from 11.2. But now this problem occurs when I try to play an mp3. There was no problem before with 11.2.
It also says
Code:
The following plugin is required : MPEG-4 AAC decoder
Only certain mp3s have this problem. All gstreamer packages have been installed. What package is missing anyway?

I've have major problems installing cinelerra.
So, I tried to uninstall it.
I messed up at some point. Now, most apt operations result in errors.
At the moment, this is what I get when I try apt-get -f install:
Code:
Is there any way to fix this, or is my package managment permanently broken?
I just want to get to the point where apt isn't returning errors, because at some point I will want to upgrade to 10.04. This is just too risky with broken apt.

I created a bootable Debian installer on my USB flash drive. The Debian Installation Guide advises;
The hybrid image on the stick does not occupy all the storage space, so it may be worth considering using the free space to hold firmware files or packages or any other files of your choice. This could be useful if you have only one stick or just want to keep everything you need on one device. Create a second, FAT partition on the stick, mount the partition and copy or unpack the firmware onto it.
I want to put non free firmware packages on the stick but when I try to create a FAT partition in the free space using Disk Utility I get the following error;
Error creating partition: helper exited with exit code 1: In part_add_partition: device_file=/dev/sdb, start=661837824, size=7507093504, type=
Entering MS-DOS parser (offset=0, size=8168931328)
MSDOS_MAGIC found
looking at part 0 (offset 0, size 657457152, type 0x00)
new part entry
[Code] ....
I formatted the drive to clear it, created a new FAT partition and copied the Debian.iso to it again. When I tried again to create a partition in the free space the same error occurred.

I just installed Ubuntu 9.04 again on my PC after a long time. Everything was working fine. No problems at all. After running all the necessary updates, I wanted to install Adobe Flash. This I did by going to Adobe's site. I selected the APT version for 9.04+. It was installing fine UNTIL there was a power cut. Since then I have been trying out various methods of repair suggested in these forums. But again and again get the same message:Quote:

W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems

I had the Adobe flash plugin working under 09.10 in Firefox; now after the upgrade to 10.04, it doesn't work. When I go to a web page with flash video, I get the message "Some plugins are not installed" and video will not display. I click on the button to install the plugins and select Adobe Flash. I get the message "Package is already installed." I go back to the web page and the same thing happens again. In Ubuntu Software Center I see that package restricted-extras is installed.
I tried going through Tools / Add-ons in Firefox, but the list of add-ons wouldn't load at all that way.I also tried going to Adobe's web site, but for versions of Ubuntu 09 and later it offers an "APT" file instead of a .deb. Firefox asks what application to use to open an "APT" file and I don't know what to tell it... I'd be fine downloading a .deb or using apt-get or Ubuntu Software Center though.

Some inquiries regarding my Flash Player Plugin.
Setup: Ubuntu 10.04 (Fresh Clean Install) AMD64 Desktop - Using Firefox 3.6.9 with Flash Player Plugin
Problem: I can watch videos but cannot interface with the plugin. I.E. I cannot change volume, fullscreen, progress bar adjust, etc.
After researching for many How To's and install scripts I finally came across one that worked for my particular setup:
I got the script from the following link:
This installed successfully and I can watch videos but cannot interface with the plugin. I.E. I cannot change volume, fullscreen, progress bar adjust, etc.
I read that changes are in progress to update the 64 bit Flash Plugin for Mozilla, could this be a bug people have reported?

i have just upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04. i have an acer netbook (d250 one). i had boot loading screen problems with 10.04 too. i hoped that this issue will be fixed with the upgrade but not. after the grub menu, a black screen appers until the password prompt screen. there is no purple loading screen, just a black screen. is it a plymouth prob? also i realised that when i playing videos in videos the sound crashes a bit. i'm using google chromium. but my main problem is the booting one not the flashplugin. the new 'ubuntu' font is awesome. i <3 it.
