Ubuntu Multimedia :: Exaile V0.3.1.b Equalizer Not Working
Feb 12, 2010
I noticed that Exaile got a recent update, among the 'new' features, I realized the equalizer plugin is back, problem is, it has no effect whatsoever on the sound.
I have kind of a special case, but still VLC equalizer works like a champ. My system is Ubuntu amd64 running alsa after pulseaudio was uninstalled. The reason I uninstalled PA is that my sound card didn't work at all, and I found out it was not supported by PA, but it is supported by ALsa (since Feisty, go figure!), it's an M-Audio 2496.
Can anyone confirm it's a PA thing or not? Do I have to have PA installed to use it?
I installed Banshee 1.6.0. The equalizer presets change the position of the sliders, but I am unable to grab with the mouse any of the sliders individually and set them manually.
I have a Logitech g15 keyboard and I cant configure my multimedia keys to work with exaile. I tried the xKeys plugin for exaile but it doesn't work. I even tried setting up this commands in UbuntuTweak but it is not working. While Exaile is running, it can also be controlled via command line arguments. These can be assigned to a keyboard shortcut in your window manager or desktop environment.
exaile -n Play next track exaile -p Play previous track exaile -s Stop playback exaile -a Play currently selected or queued song exaile -t Pause or resume playback
I use several players, but all of it was no equalizer , while i was using Aimp with wine but there are some problems, when i stop the songs in the play, and run it back , i hear no sound on it , are we life in digital world ? music player without equalizer its like nightmare for me , like going back into the past , it was like seeing my father met my mother at the time of their first date
what each slider adjusts on the equalizer, say for example in xmms or qmmp? I want to tweak my settings to adjust the sound quality for my speakers. None of the presets come close and I don't have the "ear" for sound to just wing it by randomly sliding the things up and down. Sound quality is passable by default when I plug my mp3 player into them.
I am in Ubuntu 10.04 with its standard desktop environment. Exaile was working great. Now, suddenly it refuses to work. It brings up the splash/loading image and then dies. It works fine under a different user account. I completely restarted, completely uninstalled, completely reinstalled through the Ubuntu Software Center. No luck. I then tried to run it via a terminal.
Here was the output: wmeler@ubuntu1004:~$ exaile INFO : Loading Exaile 0.3.1.1... INFO : Loading settings... INFO : Setting up deferred idle manager function... INFO : Loading plugins... I installed the pulseaudio equalizer today on my Karmic desktop using the instructions at URL...When I enable the equalizer via the GUI checkbox, my sound instantly becomes garbled. When I disable it the problem disappears, but then I can't use the equalizer, which was the point of the exercise. I found some suggestions about editing /etc/pulse/default.pa, but the parameters concerning module-hal-* don't appear in my default.pa. I also have read through a couple of Audio Troubleshooting guides without finding this particular symptom.
As you may, not that long time ago, Amarok 2* got an equalizer. Amarok 2.3 equalizer behaves differently than equalizers in all other players I used (including Amarok 1.4). I just cannot make Amarok 2 sound right. I set equalizer to Full Bass + Treble preset. It is somewhat better than "Zero" preset, but it sounds too blunt (flat) nonetheless, while in Amarok 1.4 (and in Clementine) this preset sound just right for me.
Details (Amarok 2.3.0):The most obvious difference what I see is preamp (pre-amp), which is set to 0 dB in Amarok 1.4 preset and to -4.9 dB in Amarok 2. When I try to move it up to 0 dB, while Full Bass + Treble preset is active, I get unbearable high pitch distortions already with pre-amp set to -2 dB. I tried playing creating my own preset, but I cannot get the same sound as in Amarok 1.4.
In other words:is there any way to make Full Bass + Treble preset Amarok 2.3.0 sound like Amarok 1.4 preset?I am not an audio expert of any kind, but Amarok 2.3.0 just sounds different (in a bad way) for me. Maybe I am missing something?
I installed ubuntu 9.10 last week and it is my ambition to completely switch to this platform at some point. However, I am experiencing some difficulties with the different music players at hand. I currently try to use exaile as my main player. But I can't make it connect to my mp3 player. My player is a Creative Zen X-fi 8GB. Can anyone guide me through the process of making exaile compatible with my zen? As far as I can read from different posts, it should be possible... Another question of mine is the following. Is it possible to edit the artist names in the music library. My problem is that exaile has one entry with the artist name Band of Horses and another with the artist name Band Of Horses. I would like to have these entries as only one entry, but I don't know how to edit the one or the other. Right-clicking doesn't lead to anything...
I've tried everything first I tried with Preferences/Preferred Applications - no result. then File Type Manager from Ubuntu Tweek - nothing... I tried with a few older Exaile versions (from various repo's) - nothing... compiling 0.3.1.1 from source - still nothing. with these I can set every other player to be default player (so, only Exaile refuses to obey). to be more exact, after setting Exaile as default, double-click on any audio file associated with it results with temporary CPU usage increase and than NOTHING :S just don't tell me to use VLC, Audacious, Rhythmbox, Amarok, QL or any other player... I used them all but I NEED Exaile (and not just because it looks beautiful enough with Ambiance to make me completely forget foobar2k... and because it's sooo stubborn ).
I was glad to see another release of exaile. I'm always happy to see improving mainstream desktop apps, especially when they start being much superior to their commercial counterparts in both, quality and quantity, of features. But as if developers are ignoring the simple usability problems - again - exaile like all other gnome music players (apart from amarok, but that's kde!) can't browse your library by album artist!
genre breakout with shoutcast stations.today no radio.ran in terminal did reinstall, remove/ install in synaptic; still no go.upgraded exaile to 0.3.2.0; still no go.did do automated system update today.
I have been using Ubuntu for almost one year or so. I use to have a good experience with it. But, since last few days I have been experiencing something nuance with my Ubuntu and most particularly the Exaile player. It use to connect to the Shoutcast server fine. But, these days I can't connect it. Everytime I try to connect it; it shows the message, "Error connecting shoutcast server". I have tried reinstalling it along with the normal plugins that use to work fine. But nothing seems working.
Does anyone know of an alsa based software multi-band (10 or more) graphic audio frequency equalizer that works with Suse 11.x? To be clear, I don't mean an equalizer within an audio or video player. One that can be used with any sound application, that works between the output of the player and the output plugs on a motherboard or sound card.
I would like to have a global equalizer in KDE. I have done a bit of searching and didn't find anything that looked promising. It looks easy with ubuntu since it uses Pulse audio. I actually installed pulse audio and it seems to have somewhat integrated lol but I can't find an equalizer to see if it works.
I cannot use the equalizer on Amarok 2.2.0.Ive installed the Phonon-gstreamer backend and works fine-except the equalizer. When installing the Phonon-Xine backend i can use the equaliser but I lose the sound.Any reason why all this?
I was looking for the Pulse Audio equalizer in the repos and saw that it wasnt there? All the other Pulse Audio stuff is there but not the Pulse Audio equalizer?
early yesterday morning, my windows 7 laptop died. the connection that accepts power from the ac adapter died. in response, i put back together my super-old desktop computer and installed the copy of xubuntu 8.04. i had laying around. i have been using windows' os's for my entire life and this is my first run on a linux based machine.
the problem i have is this: i can't install exaile as my media player. after watching videos on videos, googling until i've gone insane and trying plain old trial and error i absolutely cannot figure out how to install it. i downloaded the tar.gz from their website and have it extracted to my desktop. that's as far as i've gotten. this is ridiculously frustrating for me because i feel like i should be able to do this.
I just installed Fedora12 32bit and I have no sound. I've tried reinstalling and updating PulseAudio, but I don't know if it's just my settings or my drivers or what. (And no, it's not muted).
O/S information: Code: [Darksun@darksun ~]$ uname -a Linux darksun 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686 #1 SMP Sat Nov 7 21:41:45 EST 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
Aside from not having sound, my players are acting funny. If I go to load, say, an MP3 into XMMS, it only attempts to play a song for 1 second and then stops. (no sound comes out, but I can see the equalizer moving for a second like its' trying).
I can't get any of the video equalizer controls to work. Hue, brightness etc. If I run mplayer the brightness works but not the hue. Xine does better. Brightness, contrast and saturation work but not hue. I installed using the instructions in the multi-media post.
