I can't get any of the video equalizer controls to work. Hue, brightness etc. If I run mplayer the brightness works but not the hue. Xine does better. Brightness, contrast and saturation work but not hue. I installed using the instructions in the multi-media post.

Problem is very similar to: Problems playing mkv HD films in opensuse but not windows but with enough differences that I start a new thread:
* playback in VLC does not work -- there is only sound
* playback in SMplayer works, however -- when I scroll forward, the video freezes and sound continues, to unfreeze video I have scroll a tiny bit backward
I tried changing the video ouput driver (in SMplayer) from xv to xv/noveu-nvidia, it didn't help. Please note, that I use the same settings (initially) as before in OS11.1.
Few days back I changed the video playing speed to faster,since that day,SMplayer keep playing video at high speed even I've change the speed to normal...
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently I tried putting Kubuntu Natty Narwhal on yet again and to my surprise it mostly worked. The only major thing wrong with it was my brightness controls didn't work (I have a VPCCW21FX laptop) at first this was an anoyance being blinded by my screen but I soon realized that it was killing my battery life. So having tried to seek help in getting it to work I tried out OpenSUSE. They worked! but as soon as I updated the kernal they no longer worked. No Problem. I reinstalled and told it to never apply that update. Then I installed the official nvidia drivers via repository on the opensuse wiki. they installed and worked but my brightness controls were once again broken.

If I set it to anything else, it's worse. How do I know exacly what video output to choose ? Is video output determined by the video card ? My video card is ATi Radeon 9200 SE. What video output should I set in smplayer ?

Even if it autoplays, I can't control volume or pause or anything. I'm at the mercy of whatever is already there.

I have an Acer 4810T laptop with Intel graphics. I run openSUSE 11.3, and am about to upgrade to 11.4. But both systems still have a very bad bug with screen brightness. The Fn+Arrow keys do change screen brightness, but after using them the system is rendered extremely sluggish and unresponsive. This sluggishness is most pronounced with a very important Wine app I need to use. The only way to fix the sluggishness is to reboot. With 11.4, the problem is worse because the system boots and automatically partially dims the screen, thus making it even more necessary to change the brightness. Neither Gnome nor KDE are able to change the brightness via their power managers. This means that I can't dim my screen automatically upon disconnecting the A/C power.
I have read many experiences from Ubuntu and openSUSE users, who all have the same problem. I have tried both intellegacy and the new intel drivers, and they both have the problem. I have read that some users have improved the situation by upgrading or downgrading the BIOS. Others have been experimenting with kernel patches:

I have embedded a video into one of my website's pages but when I go to the page, using Firefox, the video, which plays automatically, has no controls for play, pause, stop etc which means you have to exit the page to stop the video (if you don't want to watch at the time) It is also the same where it is uploaded to [URL] or Hideho Takagawa When viewing through either Seamonkey, Opera or even Konqueror the controls are visible on both places. here's the embedding code I used.

Edit: I've actually found the solution, I had more than one mozilla plugin installed and as soon as I left myself with the gecko plug in everything works fine
I was looking for the Pulse Audio equalizer in the repos and saw that it wasnt there? All the other Pulse Audio stuff is there but not the Pulse Audio equalizer?
View 9 Replies View RelatedAs you may, not that long time ago, Amarok 2* got an equalizer. Amarok 2.3 equalizer behaves differently than equalizers in all other players I used (including Amarok 1.4). I just cannot make Amarok 2 sound right. I set equalizer to Full Bass + Treble preset. It is somewhat better than "Zero" preset, but it sounds too blunt (flat) nonetheless, while in Amarok 1.4 (and in Clementine) this preset sound just right for me.
Details (Amarok 2.3.0):The most obvious difference what I see is preamp (pre-amp), which is set to 0 dB in Amarok 1.4 preset and to -4.9 dB in Amarok 2. When I try to move it up to 0 dB, while Full Bass + Treble preset is active, I get unbearable high pitch distortions already with pre-amp set to -2 dB. I tried playing creating my own preset, but I cannot get the same sound as in Amarok 1.4.
In other words:is there any way to make Full Bass + Treble preset Amarok 2.3.0 sound like Amarok 1.4 preset?I am not an audio expert of any kind, but Amarok 2.3.0 just sounds different (in a bad way) for me. Maybe I am missing something?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using VLC to play downloaded files which have been .flv because that was the player that started when the files were selected and it just worked. The sound device is just shown as "default" but I have no idea what that is.I have just downloaded another file and when I clicked on it SMPlayer opened and started to play but there was no sound.
Wondered why SMPlayer started instead of VLC and saw that the newest file was .mp4, however SMPlayer doesn't give any sound with the .flv videos either, on the other hand VLC plays .mp4 files too with sound.However when I searched for the suggested file I couldn't find it but before I go any further, is this a real problem or could it be due to having the sound turned off from the keyboard? .
Does anyone know of an alsa based software multi-band (10 or more) graphic audio frequency equalizer that works with Suse 11.x? To be clear, I don't mean an equalizer within an audio or video player. One that can be used with any sound application, that works between the output of the player and the output plugs on a motherboard or sound card.
View 9 Replies View RelatedUsing smplayer from Packman in 11.3 - If I play a video (.avi, mp4...whatever) Use space bar to pause. Press to resume fails, but only if you have watched a fair bit or have moved on in the movie.Interestingly the pause symbol comes off as if play has resumed but it's not actually playing. You can press pause again and it shows it as if pausing again.
Darn, this hard to explain.I switched to VLC and it's fine but I can't seem to get that to pick up where I left off (enqueue).ie; if you have the same experience I'd be interested to know.or you know the setting in vlc to resume a movie where you left off..

Does anyone now if SMplayer is able to disable screensaver when playing video? There is an option to have SMplayer to do so within the settings menubut that does nothing, screensaver is still being activated after 5 min. Anyone managed to have the player do this? I am on KDE4 by the way.Kaffeine does disable screensaver but I do not like the KDE4 Kaffeine.

However, from everywhere else - YaST audio configuration, openSUSE startup, VLC, SMplayer et al - the sound is heard fine. I have no clue as to how I can go about fixing this. whenever I try to play something on Amarok I'm running on openSUSE 11.3, KDE 4.5 ( though this problem existed on KDE 4.4 as well).
SMplayer plays every .mkv i have but i cant seem to hide the top gui bar when it goes full screen. smplayer seem to be the only player that i know plays any .mkv. while others i get a 264h errors and vlc can play most .mkv files but not all the ones i have.(tried Banshee,wine, totem) So i'm just looking for a quick fix Are there any other players that can play .mkv files (fullscreen with no annoying bars)or how do i hide the tool bar in smplayer when it goes fullscreen? (because i can't seem to find a hide option for the gui)
I don't really want to fix the 264h.errors it just.. bleh i've been surfing the web for a few hours trying to find a fix and it's been very time consuming.
i'm running 11.2 kde 4.3. i'm having issues with both smplayer and vlc. first, when i play an audio cd through smplayer, it pauses every 14-15 second. by pause i mean that the sound and time counter stops, and i actually hear the disc drive make a sound, the *typical disc-read sound. i tried a few discs, in case it was a specific cd; same thing for all. i also looked through the preferences to see if there was a setting that addressed it; nothing i see seems to address the issue.
playing the same cds in kscd works fine. but kscd really sucks....excuse me, it really really sucks. with vlc, whenever i start vlc, it will appear in my taskbar, but there is no other sign of its existence besides this. no system tray icon, no gui or any other sign of its presence besides the taskbar.
I have 11.2 installed on a dual core 64 bit system. The sound works when I use Yast to look at the sound device and select "play test sound". I haven't gotten anything out of Amarok or SMPlayer. I followed the guide listed in other posts to update the system although I could not seem to solve all the dependences. When I use SMPlayer to play an MP3 file, I get a message saying that I am missing libdirectfb-1.1.so.0
I tried the following: Code: ldd /usr/bin/mplayer | grep libdirect libdirectfb-1.1.so.0 => not found This seems to be the only missing library. The interesting thing is that if I search my system for libdirect, I find that I have libdirectfb-1.2.so.0. Is this a newer rev or a different library because of my platform?
How do I get the s-video out to work. I have a Visiontek Xtasy Radeon 9250 128mb Pci Video Card and OpenSUSE 11.3. I attempted to install the ATI drivers and doesn't really seem to work at all... With the default install i get flickering and black and white output on my TV and it calls my tv "uknown monitor" in the video card settings. I had wanted to setup a spare computer to output multimedia to my TV in addition to being a home server....

In Opensuse 11.3 I was able to play files on my NAS drive from within smplayer over samba shares or ftp. I would simply use dolphin to browse to the file on the nas drive (either through samba or ftp protocol), double click the .avi file and it would load smplayer and begin playing immediately.
In 11.4 I have samba set up using the same smb.conf file However, if I double click the .avi file it copies the entire contents to the local computer before launching smplayer. If I use smplayer's file selector and navigate to the file on the samba share I get the message "you can only select local files" This is a different behaviour to that from 11.3 However, using the ftp protocol from within dolphin smplayer launches immediately and begins playing. smplayer is launched using the shortcut command

The FF search bar, the Gimp menu and other similar controls are now decorated with a transparent white outline. I do not have any customizations applied and I am unsure how to fix it. I was using Kmix today without issue and accidentally (perhaps out of curiosity) clicked the 'close' box on the tab which presented all of the volume controls. The thing is, I cannot seem to find out how to recreate it. I seem to recall there was some option to create multiple volume control tabs, but I cannot locate.
Could someone point me in the right direction on how to recreate the tab or delete the kmix settings/config which I assume would re-create defaults?
I am using a wireless Xbox 360 controller with openSUSE 11.1. I use it for some emulators and all buttons work fine. There is however an annoying problem, the Xbox controller left joystick controls the cursor and digital pad acts as mouse buttons. So while I play, the cursor moves all around the screen and bad things could happen. Why this behavior? In xorg.conf there seems to be only just 1 mouse. And if I go in Joystick via YaST, there is only a menu to select which joystick I have. But my wireless controller has been automatically detected, I didn't setup anything. Is there a config file that I can modify to stop controlling the mouse with my gamepad?
View 6 Replies View RelatedGot this new motherboard and it's running 11.4 of Opensuse and it works great. Even got the DVI working with the monitor with help of instructions I found here. However the sound is poor and the volume controls just as bad. According to the motherboard docs it has THX Tru Studio sound pro, a Intel H67 (B3) chipset. Six audio ports. And the chipset integration by Realtek ALC837. I have tried to find this information in the sound setup with no luck. What was selected was the Intel model (no other specifics was found). According to the Alsamixer it says HDA Intel PCH and the card and chip is set as PulseAudio. What should the sound card be set to other than Intel?
