Aside from not having sound, my players are acting funny. If I go to load, say, an MP3 into XMMS, it only attempts to play a song for 1 second and then stops. (no sound comes out, but I can see the equalizer moving for a second like its' trying).
Hardware :: Intel G41 (ICH7 With VIA VT1708B) - Mixer Does Not Work
Feb 14, 2010I have several computers based on ECS G41T-M motherboard, featuring ICH7 chipset with VIA VT1708B 8-ch audio codec. I've installed Debian Lenny 64-bit on it. The sound itself works, but mixer does not, thus, for example, I can not get my recording app working, changing volumes does not work etc.Here what it looks like:

I've also tried Ubuntu and OpenSuse latest LiveCDs, both 32 and 64 bit - the result is the same alsaconf does not help.I'm totally puzzled and will be gladfull for any hint.

General :: Audio Card - Unable To Get Streaming Audio
Oct 29, 2010i have opensuse 11.3 (64-bit) installed. kde version. my sound card is a creative labs sound blaster x-fi xtreme audio, pcie interface. i am able to listen to cd music without any problems but i am unable to get streaming audio when i visit any internet radio site, videos, yahoo!tv, etc. etc. for instance, when i visit videos, the video part is ok but i cannot hear anything through the speakers. something similar happens when for instance i go to [url] and select any of the music channels. a new window pops up but the music never even starts to stream.
i know for a fact that both sound card and speakers work fine because i've tested them with windows xp. so there must be some setting in opensuse that i've missed. the weird part is that i can listen to music cds without any problems...
Fedora :: Getting The Pulse Audio Server To Find The Hw0 With The Common M-audio 24/96 Audiophile
Nov 18, 2009I am having trouble getting the pulse audio server to find the hw0 with the common m-audio 24/96 audiophile. This card worked with previous versions of all forms of pulse but seems to bork on the HW0 function for audio out...which is a stereo analogue simple output. Audacity sees the HW functions but pulse does not! Here is a screen shot of the pulse crap. And another screen shot of what the real card at "alsamixer -c 0" sees. There is no dac or adc detected or configured with pulse. This does not make any sense as alsa and alsamixer has all the correct device controls available to any other software that uses the ice1712 driver.
I am using Fedora 12 amd 64 as a live usb on a 16 gig stick and want to be able to record and mix audio on to HD with my reliable high end m-audio pci sound card without having to mess with the pulse crap or having to install a full HD option. BTW in the pulse sound configuration gui dropdown list there is no indication of HW0 and the only devices that are available in pulse are digital outs.....go figure, so essentially I can see all the correct connections and use programs that access alsa directly eg: audacity but have no sound through the crappy and ever borked pulse audio server! Any suggestions as to how to remove all the pulse stuff that comes with most distros that use gnome? I have done this deed before with Ubuntu but do no know how to do the deed with an rpm based system. If I install a non pulse version of xmms and let it use jackd then I should have reliable sound for cd audio etc and should be able to configure VLC, Ardour and Nted well without pulse getting in on the action and screwing up my sound.
Debian Installation :: CD Cannot Find Ethernet Card?
Aug 27, 2011I'v just brought a notebook computer with a CPU i7 2630QM. I install debian 6.0.2.1 via CD driver, but it failed to success. The probles are three, (1).it reported "cannot find ethernet card" ; (2). It reported "cannot install continue" after the diskpartion step have been successed; (3). It said "netinstall may be a choice", so I say "Yes" and It really downloading something (543 files) and successed . After reboot, I loggin and cannot link to the internet. There is no such files ralated to netware config and I'm not able to config that, for I'm always only a bar finder in an meau.(shy a little,but this is ture). I do it 4 times and the situation and results are the same that I got a smallest netinstalled debian system on my computer and I cannot play music, cannot link to internet. I wonder: How could I install a real debian on my computer? Need I download anther version of iso file or do something that I do not know to makes it works. I can burn an iso image to a real CD by my old computer. I can also install OS such as mint via USB flash drive. In the computer Highly-Orangized world (already-wisdomed world), I have a body already but I've never been installed a sprit or a soul. So I really need to learn from you, from the great debian bbs, learn something of vital importance to take me into wise and freedom.

Sep 15, 2010I am trying to install Debian Lenny via Hyper-V. I get to the point where it asks for the network card. For some reason it can not find my network card. I have a RealTek (RTL8112L PCIe Gigabit LAN controller featuring AI NET 2 built on motherboard).
For some reason it doesn't see it. My issue is if I continue without the network how am I getting the drivers? Unfortunately Hyper-V doesn't support USB. I guess I can try to burn to CD but not looking to waste a cd for 480k and not sure that will work as I only see a auto.sh and a couple other files under scr directory. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. This is a fairly new Motherboard/NIC so I do not understand why it isn't recognized. I know it cant have everything but Realtek is a fairly common nic.

Preliminary checks of sound level settings and obvious dumb stuff but there is still no sound. The problem seems to be that the system does not recognize the existence of the sound card and insists on using alternative audio devices.

May 28, 2010I would like to have a global equalizer in KDE. I have done a bit of searching and didn't find anything that looked promising. It looks easy with ubuntu since it uses Pulse audio. I actually installed pulse audio and it seems to have somewhat integrated lol but I can't find an equalizer to see if it works.

Could anyone help me troubleshoot this correctly?I feel as though I might do damage to my system if I keep trying solutions from outdated forums. Feb 12, 2010I noticed that Exaile got a recent update, among the 'new' features, I realized the equalizer plugin is back, problem is, it has no effect whatsoever on the sound.
I have kind of a special case, but still VLC equalizer works like a champ. My system is Ubuntu amd64 running alsa after pulseaudio was uninstalled. The reason I uninstalled PA is that my sound card didn't work at all, and I found out it was not supported by PA, but it is supported by ALsa (since Feisty, go figure!), it's an M-Audio 2496.
Can anyone confirm it's a PA thing or not? Do I have to have PA installed to use it?

None of the presets come close and I don't have the "ear" for sound to just wing it by randomly sliding the things up and down. May 24, 2010I've purchased Creative sound blaster. It's external usb sound card, which worked well as I plugged it in. In sound preferences it was setted to 'Analog stereo output' in hardware, and I've accidently messed up with Connector droplist in Output bookmark. As a result - silence in my speakers. I wonder what went wrong and where to search for it. The card is worked and it is supported by ALSA. Just some settings went wrong.

I compiled and upgraded to newest alsa, so my HDMI audio shows up as one of the sound cards. I also read that I should manually unmute everything that shows up in alsamixer that is related with the NVidia card, and I did that as well. Unfortunately I still don't have any audio.. Ubuntu :: Getting No Sound From Audio Card (Muted Icon)
Feb 3, 2011I've got no sounds from my audio card. I have established this knowledge by confirming it by using two separate sets of speakers. In addition, there is a weird muted icon in the top left corner. I've looked through the sound settings, including alsamixer, and I cannot find whats muted. Please see attached screenshot. As you can see, my output it muted, but the speaker is back (see a) in screenshot), not white like it normally is (see b) in screenshot). How to restore sound from my audio ports?

May 9, 2010I'm in a real mess I have been reading loads of forums and wikis for a week now, trying to work out how to configure mythtv and ALSA to pick up the audio output from my hauppauge HVR 1300. I am using it to watch the RF output from a sky box, so there is only one channel which I have managed to tune ok.
I can listen to other sources of audio such as dvd mp3 etc. and I have run speaker test pointing at ALSA:default and I get audio, but when I point mythtv at ALSA:default I get glorious silence which for once is not what I want.
I have read some comments about having to redirect the audio output with sox but have not really understood how, and there are other comments about connecting a cable between the tv card and the aux in of the sound card but have not hmanaged to find a way of doing that either. If there is someone who have used this card and configured the analog audio I would love to know how you did it.
