Feb 24, 2011I use nv18 with nouveau. Why equlizer does not work?

View 5 RepliesMy partner is a teacher and has downloaded some videos from a teacher's resource site but can't seem to play them in Ubuntu. They play fine in Windows XP using Windows Media Player but they only play a few seconds in VLC or Totem and then freeze. The files in question seem to be normal MPG (MPEG-1) video files but somehow VLC and Totem choke on them. I have installed all restricted video formats including w32codecs but still no joy. My partner is threatening to go back to Windows!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried to play FLV movie files with Totem Mplayer but it gets error internal stream error. How can I play this kind of files in ubuntu 8.04
View 2 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to 64-bit Karmic, I can't play any WMA files, neither in Rhythmox, Totem, VLC, or mplayer. It used to work well with 64-bit Intrepid.
I've added the medibuntu repos and installed ubuntu-restricted-extras (including w64codecs). Still, when rhythmbox or totem opens a WMA file, they search for an appropriate codec and don't find anything.
how I fixed my sound problems, that happened only for "windows media 9" videos, after struggling for days changing the players etc. (using Ubuntu lucid 10.04 up to date)First search for "Ubuntu install w32codecs" (or w64codecs depending on your system bus width) and... install them as root or 'sudo'
Code:
$ sudo apt-get install w32codecs (or w64codecs)
After updating totem to the very latest version (May 12, 3 days ago) the problem happened to be likely from the source: gstreamer. So I tried to install the latest version of gstreamer, and it worked (the default one packaged in Ubuntu is dated 2008...).
Code:
try
{
install latest developer version
}

Cannot watch second, third, etc, streams from a server-side playlist (ie, .wsx on windows media service). I have tried mplayer, vlc, totem, and xine. Xine totally fails and the other three play only the first stream as described. You can verify it works in wine by using Windows Mediaplayer v10 (`winetricks wmp10` on a clean wine prefix).
The particular example I am dealing with is not an ideal test-case as they dynamically mangle the stream's URL to prevent leeching. You can test it by either visiting $URL (below) or from command line:
Code:
URL="http://desitvstreams.hotdnsplus.com/Indian/stargold.php"
MMS=$(wget "$URL" -qO- | sed -n '/src="mms/s/.*(mms:[^"]*).*/1/p')
mplayer -v "$MMS"
My research has brought up only two or three random posts citing a similar problem. All seem to be quite old (circa 2008). The most relevant is:
[URL]
I have attached the output from:
Code:
mplayer -msglevel all=9 "$MMS" &>mplayer.output
You will see that mplayer is seeing an EOF and terminating (perhaps the server is too slow so mplayer's timeout triggers EOF condition?). I tired fooling with -vid/-aid flags to no avail.
I use a net install CD to install the Debian 6.0.1(squeeze). After installation of gnome, I use apt install the mplayer. But when I use the mplayer open a avi file, it failed. The mplayer don't crash but give the following instruction:
Mplayer interrupted by signal 6 in module: filter_video
- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your gcc version. If you thin it's MPlayer's fault, please read DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. [This binary of MPlayer in Debian is currently compiled with '--enable-debug'; the debugging symbols are in the package 'mplayer-dbg'.] I don't know why this happen, because all the package is installed with apt.
I just made a minimal installation of F14 and I have been installing more package to it. However I think I have missed something because VLC crashes after open and Mplayer and Totem have sound but not video.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use a webtv subscribtion on ubuntu kermic, however it seems that that vlc dosnt support wmap yet, so i'm not getting any sounds on it. Does anyone have a clue on how to get this fixed, or if its even possible to get it fixed? I've tried searching guides for it without anyluck. And when i'm trying to set it to use gmplayer or totem it dosn't work either, mplayer and totem dosnt get either picture or sound.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI got a webcam and it works fine with cheese, skype and many other programs. But with jmf or mplayer it doesn't work.
With mplayer I used this command mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l:width=640:height=480:device=/dev/video0
Both jmf and mplayer just give static looking like this [url]
I'm setting up a gui-less music server so there's no login, and I've tried using mplayer's lirc interface as well as irexec (sending mplayer slave commands to a fifo). But I can't get mplayer to work unless I start either irexec or mplayer from a logged in session. So my S99test is something like:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
#irexec -d
#OR
#mplayer myfile.mp3
If I use the "mplayer" line, I do hear music at startup, but no lirc control. Yet if I log in and kill the mplayer and rerun S99test as root, all works fine.
Im trying to get sound to work in mplayer for my myth tv box. My hardware setup is a nvidia motherboard with hdmi (not used) and a geforce 210 with hdmi (that is used). The hdmi is connect to an external amplifier that should handle most things. Sound works fine in mythtv - the audio output device used is:
ALSA:hdmi:Card=Nvidia_1,DEV=1
When I try using the command line speaker-test utility it all works:
speaker-test -Dplughw:2,7 -c6
However, aplay and mplayer both dont give any sound - with neither outputting any error messages.

I can't get any of the video equalizer controls to work. Hue, brightness etc. If I run mplayer the brightness works but not the hue. Xine does better. Brightness, contrast and saturation work but not hue. I installed using the instructions in the multi-media post.

It seems to be able to play flash videos acquired from from video.google.com (ive only tried one) but NONE from ...... On other distros it will play ALL flash video from ANY source from the tmp directory perfectly fine.
Heres the original error

Since I installed my new debian squeeze system with gnome 2.30.2 I got problems with totem and totem-xine application.
Problem 1: The file asociation for .avi does always open totem! I changed the .avi file asociation unter -> preferences -> "preferred applications" for example to vlc... but no chance it always open the totem player. I looked also in the gnome configuration tool (gconf) and there is the file asociaton set on vlc, but he still opens totem.
Problem 2: All .avi files with video content I cannot see the video and I hear only the audio stream. If I open the video I got a popup with the message that the codec is not installed, then I click on search codecs and totem search for it and does not found anything. I have the codec installed because I see it in avidemux...
- If I install only totem I install also all gstreamer packages ...
- If I install totem-xine I install all xine plugins packackages etc ...
- If I use vlc or mplayer all works fine ...
- If I start totem over a console shell and I open the video, I get no error message in the shell.
I get the following error when I try to play .mp4 videos using totem Movie player in Squeeze :
" Internal GStreamer error: negotiation problem. file a bug at [URL]
This is what I currently have :
sarvad@debian:~$ dpkg -l | grep totem

Does gecko-mediaplayer uses gstreamer codecs such as gstreamer0.10-base-plugins gstreamer0.10-good-plugins gstreamer0.10-bad-plugins gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg or is it only totem-plugin that does? I it necessary to have gstreamer codecs installed if you only want to use gecko-mediaplayer?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi updated to Sid and installed gnome minimal (gnome-core). But, there are 2-3 days ago, Totem and Evolution became gnome-core's dependancies. Actually on Sid, i use VLC and Icedove and when i want to uninstall Totem and Evolution, "aptitude" wants to remove gnome-core too. I would like to know if it's possible to remove these applications without uninstall gnome-core completly?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have installed Squeeze with the Gnome desktop and the Totem Movie Player Application. It seems to work ok but it seem there is no way to delete the history. I found one post on the subject with no reply and have read the bug reports and the problem was not mentioned. I tried to find the file containing the history without success.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm currently using Debian Testing with Debian Multimedia Sid repos. The current Mplayer (3:1.0~rc4+svn20110308-0.0) seems to be broken - I can't encode AAC to AC3 on-the-fly anymore. I'd like to compile the latest snapshot or SVN version, but what is the easiest way to compile it with the same options as the one in debian-multimedia.org?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI noticed that Exaile got a recent update, among the 'new' features, I realized the equalizer plugin is back, problem is, it has no effect whatsoever on the sound.
I have kind of a special case, but still VLC equalizer works like a champ. My system is Ubuntu amd64 running alsa after pulseaudio was uninstalled. The reason I uninstalled PA is that my sound card didn't work at all, and I found out it was not supported by PA, but it is supported by ALsa (since Feisty, go figure!), it's an M-Audio 2496.
Can anyone confirm it's a PA thing or not? Do I have to have PA installed to use it?
I use several players, but all of it was no equalizer , while i was using Aimp with wine but there are some problems, when i stop the songs in the play, and run it back , i hear no sound on it , are we life in digital world ? music player without equalizer its like nightmare for me , like going back into the past , it was like seeing my father met my mother at the time of their first date
View 9 Replies View Relatedwhat each slider adjusts on the equalizer, say for example in xmms or qmmp? I want to tweak my settings to adjust the sound quality for my speakers. None of the presets come close and I don't have the "ear" for sound to just wing it by randomly sliding the things up and down. Sound quality is passable by default when I plug my mp3 player into them.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi got mostly no audio.the sound test within system/ preference/sound works but videos, movie player, sidplay & rhythm box won't play audio.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen playing some HD files Mplayer video is slow compare to sound. Totem plays the same videos with perfect synchronization of voice and video. I have tried all video drivers in Mplayer none seems to work.My version of mplayer is : MPlayer SVN-r31918 (C) 2000-2010 MPlayer TeamRunning Squeeze.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed debian 6.0 and have a problem with mplayer running in fullscreen/maximised window. Basically whenever I want to play a film in full screen or maximised window the view/film area remains a small rectangle and there's a big black area around that makes up the full screen.I'm running a nouveau driver and the video settings in mplayer are set to xv ( I also tried gl).
That's what happen when I run mplayer from the command line (eg. mplayer film.avi), which is my preferred method. When I want to play a film by opening it from a file browser, it starts mplayer but there's no video at all, just the sound.
As you may, not that long time ago, Amarok 2* got an equalizer. Amarok 2.3 equalizer behaves differently than equalizers in all other players I used (including Amarok 1.4). I just cannot make Amarok 2 sound right. I set equalizer to Full Bass + Treble preset. It is somewhat better than "Zero" preset, but it sounds too blunt (flat) nonetheless, while in Amarok 1.4 (and in Clementine) this preset sound just right for me.
Details (Amarok 2.3.0):The most obvious difference what I see is preamp (pre-amp), which is set to 0 dB in Amarok 1.4 preset and to -4.9 dB in Amarok 2. When I try to move it up to 0 dB, while Full Bass + Treble preset is active, I get unbearable high pitch distortions already with pre-amp set to -2 dB. I tried playing creating my own preset, but I cannot get the same sound as in Amarok 1.4.
In other words:is there any way to make Full Bass + Treble preset Amarok 2.3.0 sound like Amarok 1.4 preset?I am not an audio expert of any kind, but Amarok 2.3.0 just sounds different (in a bad way) for me. Maybe I am missing something?
I installed Banshee 1.6.0. The equalizer presets change the position of the sliders, but I am unable to grab with the mouse any of the sliders individually and set them manually.
