I installed XMBC and i keep getting this message "Error XBMC needs hardware accelerated OpenGL rendering. Install an appropirate graphic driver" i have a radeon 5750 hd graphics card. i updated the drive thru the website. but i keep getting this message.

I am trying to install NVIDIA graphics drivers. I can execute the .run but it comes up with an error the X Server is in use and needs to be closed.
I have tried to run
Ctrl Alt Backspace
and
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
But the terminal requests the root password and I can not enter anything for the password in the line. If I go to the next line and enter anything the password fails.
I tried to install the nvidia driver using yum. I had the nouveau graphic driver installed. I didn't follow any tutorial I just installed the nvidia driver over the installed one. Thinking that yum would take care of everything for me. When I rebooted I get as far as "registering binary handler for windows applications" I can still log on using alt+f2 and mount the file system using chroot but I cannot get any network access. When I use netstat -nr nothing is configured. I can't ping my router or any other computer on the network.I figure I should disable the nouveau driver and try to use the nvidia tutorial by leigh123linux to get the desktoop up again but I need net access to do that.I have no idea how to get that done. I have tried, ifdown/ifup, /etc/init.d/networks restart, service network stop/start/restart, ifconfig eth0.

I'm having problems with trying to play 3d games or xbmc on a Compaq Evo N1020v laptop with Ati Radeon IGP 330M/340M/350M graphic card. Compiz works, glxgears works but any attempt to play 3d games results in failure.

The system has driver for intel, but the opengl version is 2.1. How to update opengl version to 4.1. (intel 945). For ATI just download driver version 11.5 and install it. All is OK.

I have openGL working fine on my system.The only problem is that when I try to run the executable file, nothing appears unless the full scene has been rendered.In fact, it appears in parts, i.e. updates after a second, then after another second etc...However, earlier, the rendering used to be continuous and I could see each pixel getting rendered in a continuous fashion.

I downloaded an FLV video and placed an extra MP3 file over it. Two files. Total: 30 MBI experimented with about seven rendering containers, and QuickTime renderer was the only rendering container that didn't result in sped-up/compressed video or correct rendering for just fifteen seconds.How in the name of all that is holy did this rendering end up with 570 extra MB?

Just wondering if this is possible? Total n00b with linux, this is my *thinking* 3rd week using Ubuntu 9.10. And I am using my system for surfing the web, listen to music, video`s and chatting. And I got the "funny" tough`t of trying to maybe play World of Warcraft again on this computer. Yes I have run it before when I had XP and W7 on it. The w7 experience on this computer was a bad mistake. So yeah, the thing I am really wondering on is this: Wine, WoW with WoTLK ( Wrath of the Lich King ), with the newest Open Source ATI graphic driver?[URL].. I've loaded 11.04 with Unity on a Dell GX260 test machine (2.4 GHz P4, 1 GB of RAM, 40 GB HD, GeForce 6200 video card). I've tried installing both accelerated video drivers, but Compiz won't start and the Additional Drivers program informs me that the driver is loaded but "This driver is activated but not currently in use." How do I put it into use? There seems to be no switch for that effect in the system controls, and I haven't found any informative posts.

I tried and tried with the ATI card and went back to make onboard the primary. Neither seems to allow for visual effects upgrade nor 3d graphics in games.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded Frets On Fire and the HRP Polymer pack for Duke3D...Duke3D runs fine with just EDuke32 and no mods, just Duke3D and EDuke32. But when I try the HRP Polymer pack, it says in Terminal "NVIDIA: Direct Rendering failed, attempting indirect rendering." This is fine...if I want the game to lag like hell, I'm sure my video card and the driver for it support DR, the video card is a NVIDIA Geforce FX 5200, the same message appears in terminal when I run Frets On Fire, I think it does with other games too, if someone could explain how to enable Direct Rendering.

Then I noticed that it's not working well due to an improper installation (didn't use the manual that you provided here). So I uninstalled the driver. Then, after reboot, instead of a regular desktop, I get a CLI and I'm requested to enter my login information. But in the boot menu, if I enter to the failsafe option, then everything works fine. How can I change the CLI to the regular desktop?

When i try to install in graphics mode after disk checking i.e while anaconda is loading my monitor automatically turned off. So I recognized that problem with some driver. View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried to run the XBMC live disc but could not fully boot. Each time I could only get to a command prompt after the XBMC splash screen with spinning circle. So I thought, "Maybe because my computer is sort of old (Pentium 4, 2.26 Ghz, 512 RAM) it doesn't like the XBMC Live disc. It will probably work if I install to the HDD." I installed it only to get the same result, XBMC splash screen then loading of command prompt. Does anyone know how to fix this? Is the computer compatible?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed Centos. During the installation, I noticed that only sound was being tested during the installation. Once everything has been installed successfully. I can run Centos with no problem. However, when I tried to switch from one window (browser) to another. The display was slow. Thus, I suspected the driver for the graphic card of my PC is not being installed successfully. When I type /sbin/lspci | grep VGA in the terminal, I get the following output:

Then, I went to the dell support & driver site to download the driver. In the readme file, it is suggested to install dkms first before installing the graphics driver by typing rpm -ivh dkms-2.1.0.1-1.noarch.rpm
I managed to install the dkms without any error.However, when I use rpm to install the graphics driver as suggested by the readme file:
rpm -ivh dell-nvidia-190.42-1dkms_rhel5.3.x86_64.rpm
I get the following errors: error: Failed dependencies:
libX11.so.6()(64bit) is needed by dell-nvidia-190.42-1dkms_rhel5.3.x86_64
libXext.so.6()(64bit) is needed by dell-nvidia-190.42-1dkms_rhel5.3.x86_64[code]....
Since the above errors may be related to the missing packages then I use yum provides and install to find the missing packages. Even I try to install all the matched packages, i still cant install the driver for my graphic card. To be honest, i am not very sure whether I am doing the right things or not. how to solve this slow display problem when switching from one application to another.
