For those not familiar with the "motion" project it monitors your camera and when enough motion is detected in the video field of view it records that to a video file. The project website is here What I'm looking for is something like that but for audio, does anyone know of any Linux apps that can accomplish this?

The audio configuration sound test and the answer to the question No returns a message that says: automatic detection of sound card did not work. I am not sure what else is needed to diagnose the problem.
For some reason, I cannot record video with cheese. I cannot record video and audio on ....., just video. I can record audio on sound recorder. Why can't I get both? I have an e-machines (acer)em-250, 2g ram, 2ghz intel atom processor. Using Moon Os 4 neak (ubuntu 10.10 variant). I have downloaded and installed ffmpeg, and all other codecs. I can also get video on google voice and video, but no audio. Obviously I have a built-in webcam and mic. I've had this problem with every ubuntu distro I've tried since Oct. of 2010. This netbook came with Win. xp, and I had no problems with this issue then. I would just REALLY like to be able to use my webcam and be able to record video and audio.

Sound Recorder, Audacity, and outRec all output files but they are just silence, even though when I see them in a media player they show the visualizations. im looking for a good screen recorder that can record video from my desktop and audio through a mic and i need it to export the files as mp4 so i can edit it. i can use terminal commands if necessary but would prefer a GUI because i only have a few days to learn the program.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have detected some problems when I try to record sound in my Kubuntu 10.04 system.
The problem is that the "default" device for audio recording does not work but I have to select another device to do so. I always selected the "default" device for audio recoding but currently I have to select hw:0,2 device.
Another odd thing is that different programs show me different device. For example, Audacity shows me that I have the following audio recording devices:
- HDA Intel: ALC888 Digital (hw:0,1)
- HDA Intel: ALC888 Analog (hw:0,2)
- spdif
- default
The only one that works is hw:0,2.
But arecord shows me (when I execute "arecord -L") the following:
Finally, in KDE system preferences for audio I get that I have 2 different audio devices for audio recording:
- HDA Intel (ALC888 Analog): it is said that it will try first x-phonon (CARD=0, DEV=0) and, if the latter does not work, it will try plughw (CARD=0, DEV=0)
- HDA Intel (ALC888 Digital): it is said that it will try first x-phonon (CARD=0, DEV=1) and, if the latter does not work, it will try plughw (CARD=0, DEV=1)
Where is the hw:0,2? and how can I set the alsa system to use hw:0,2 as the default device for audio recording?
All of that would not be a problem but I also have an ubuntu 9.04 installed on a virtual machine (by using virtualbox) and audio recording doesn't work there. I suppose that it is becase of the virtual sound card is using default devices for playing and recording audio.
I must say that audio playback works fine in both host and guest systems. It is just audio recording.
I've installed a tv card but I can't hear the sound through my built-in CMedia soundcard when I watch tv with TVTime. The tv card's audio output is externally connected to my soundcard's line in input. In the 'Input' tab of the 'Sound Preferences' dialog, I can see the input level meter moving.
Audacity can record the tv sound, and I can hear it when I have the 'pass-through' option enabled, or when I play the recording.
I can play media files without a problem, and I can hear the system sounds.
But for some reason I can't get the tv sound to go through to the soundcard's output.
Obviously I've got the audio configured wrong, but I don't know what to do to fix it.
I simply want to record audio webcasts with stock Kubuntu tools. I just prefer to not download and install more software.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter trying Kubuntu live CD, Fedora live CD, and booting from my Ubuntu partition on my iMac, I am convinced that there is no solution at all to the problems I am having recording from Line In. Using the same radio hooked up to an old Dell PC which I am selling, recording works fine. I can see the audio signal when I go to sound preferences and click on the Input tab. Works great.
I beleive that Ubuntu just isn't compatible with the sound card in the iMac. This is too bad because I was really hoping that I could use Ubuntu dual boot on my Mac. Running Ubuntu in emulation works fine using VMware Fusion but dual boot really sucks. Unless I hear back from someone who actually is running Ubuntu dual boot on an imac and can record from the Line In.
I seem to be having some audio clashes. I use Exaile to play music (if that matters), and after I play music, no sound comes out of videos (not just Ubuntu, it won't work from Yahoo or MSN videos either). Then when I try to go back to playing my music on Exaile, no sound will come out of that. Likewise, if I restart the computer... the sound works again. If I instead watch a video first, there will be sound -- but as soon as I try to play music from Exaile, nothing comes out.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a gigabyte MB/rig connected to Svideo out on my TV. I have external PC speakers connected to my sound card. For some reason when I go to play video, streaming audio, or streaming video I get no sound. I go into alsamixer via CLI and all is unmuted. I reboot, sound is back. The next day I load boxee, no sound. It's not just boxee when I have no sound. If I close boxee and open vlc and stream online radio, I get no sound either. Reboot, sound is back. No external errors of hardware conflicts either.

View 8 Replies View RelatedOn my Windoze machine, I use Replay Media Catcher 4 which runs silently in the background and captures any videos (FLV, AVI, MPG, WMV, etc) on any websites that I happen to go to, and saves them to a folder on my hard drive. Right now, if I want to save a video that I'm wathing from Ubuntu, I have to go to /temp, guess which file it is, and copy it after it downloads fully but before it finishes playing, otherwise Firefox deletes it from /temp right away. This is a pain.
Yes, there are screen motion capture utilities in the Ubuntu Software Center, but they're just screen scrapers that result in low quality copies without any audio. I want something that will actually capture the video stream and save it as a file. Even if it doesn't save all videos automatically like RMC4, and I have to right click on the video to Save As, that would be better than copying it from /temp at the precise exact moment.
My friends and I are into freerunning/parkour (look it up if you don't know it : D) and we like to make videos sometimes. Slow motion is a MUST.
The problem is, I haven't been able to find any good video editors for linux. I've just been using windows movie maker when it comes to editing, but I haven't been able to find anything on linux that really allows slowmo.
I tried Openshot video editor and LiVES video editor, but they've both been no luck. Open shot allows you to play a clip at half speed. This is fine, except it doesn't adjust the timeline accordingly, so clips get cut off when they're only part of the way through, and I can't seem to adjust the timeline to get it to work. And as far as LiVES, I haven't been able to find the "effects" button, or anything that allows you to do stuff to clips.
I am looking for a linux-based solution that will let me record a PDF slideshow to a video file with a voiceover. Google searching mostly revealed PPT -> movie export and/or <other> -> PDF, but I am planning on creating my slideshows with LaTeX Beamer, and would then like to record a video of my slides with my speech in voiceover. Furthermore, I am planning on posting these online and would really like to be able to embed hyperlinks, if possible, into the videos as they reference each other and/or external references.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm currently using a Leadtek Winfast PVR2000 capture card with a webcam connected via the composite port. I'm attempting to get the video working with a motion daemon. I used to have the identical setup under Debian and everything worked out of the box. I'm now trying to get this working under Ubuntu 10.10 Server.
When I first boot up the PC, it works great. Randomly (anywhere between 1 and 10 days) I stop getting video. If I kill all motion instances and relaunch it, I'm only able to get a solid green output. I've tried killing off every motion instance again and used other command line apps that just end up giving me a solid black image. After a reboot everything begins working again.
It's not a huge deal if the video feed dies once and a while, but is there any way to avoid rebooting the whole PC? Is there any way to figure out why the capture card can't be accessed after the video feed dies?
I'm just working on fedora for the first time for my proj. So having many difficulties. My first doubt is that is it possible to record audio in single user mode using fedora? I need it for my proj work..I tried arecord and rec in single user mode.. I'm getting an error stating pulse audio connect error. Connection refused..
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed 11.3 onto a computer I just dropped a new mobo/cpu/memory into. At first everything worked great! (minus a few video streaming issues...but that is for a later date) Then, a few days ago, I let it do an update. Boy to I feel stupid now. I guess if it ain't broke..... So, now I don't have sound in the browsers or for the video players...such as xine. I do however still have sound with Amarok and system sounds when it boots up.
I have deleted the sound device in Yast and let it re-install several times. I tried different setting there as well. Checked and rechecked then checked again the mixer settings. Made sure my group settings included audio...just in case. Now Amarok and the online video play at warp speed, and only Amarok gives me sound....garbled...but sound. The system keeps telling me when I reboot that "one or more sound devices were removed" and wants to know if I want it to ignore them from now on. I've answered yes and no several times.I've also tried updated the alsa drivers in the software management of Yast. Can someone please help me before my wife gets mad at me for converting this computer to Linux?

The "Warp Speed" for the video and audio was resolved after removing and then re-installing the audio driver and a quick reboot. But for some reason I had to reboot yet again to get the internet connection working again. This has happened to me a couple of times now. Also, when I try to adjust the Pulseaudio config under "other"in the audio config of Yast,it says it is not installed. When I try to install, it has a conflict with another program.
I found that Mike Oldfield "Tr3s Lunas" being played backward (from the end to begining) is an addictive, magic music. For this I used alsaplayer. Now I want to record these reversed music, not everyone player is able to play backward, how I can do that?
Now I am using some kind of a mutant ubuntu, say version between 9.10 an 10.04, with gnome desktop and alsa sound system.
I currently have pclinuxos 2007 (updated to kde4). I put on webinars, and like to record them using recordmydesktop. All is working fine by putting a splitter in my speaker out, and feeding it back into my line in. This only works when I have analog loopback not muted.My problem is that pclinuxos is now putting out there 2010 version, and there is no way I can see to un-mute the analog loopback. It does not show up as any options onkmix.... I am going to attach a couple pictures one with my old kmix, and one with the new 2010 version.My question is, how can I get back that analog loopback, or is there another way to get the sound to record from both my speaker and my mic?

View 2 Replies View Relatedyou have an onboard soundcard that you have or may not have disabled in the BIOS, and you intend to use headphones with a USB sound card with headphone and microphone jacks (or no mic jack, it doesn't matter), but you notice that the headphones are detected. Alsamixer provides an interface to control the volume, etc etc, but still the headphones do not work..In my case, the module snd_hda_intel was being loaded for my onboard soundcard that I had disabled in the BIOS before booting the computer for the first time, and even though I tried to "activate" the USB headset in alsamixer, I still couldn't get the headset to work.
Solution as a trial: Open a terminal, and look to the code section for what you need to type.A big missing key to my puzzle is how to simply restart and/or reload a module so that it isn't necessary to unplug and plug back in the USB device. Can't I just re-discover the USB devices? (or other such hardware, such as a PCI card, or otherwise inaccessible component?)

All other CD's do get detected on the above mentioned platform on my laptop, but the 4 new Audio CD's I've brought do not get detected there.
By detection I mean:
i. No icon is shown on the desktop.
ii. ls -R /media/ shows nothing.
Those Audio CD's do get detected on a different laptop with OpenSuse 10.3 with Kde 3.5.7 on it !!
Kindly let me know if I need to give more information regarding the above problem.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.
Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.
