Ubuntu Multimedia :: ATI Drivers For X1250 Embedded Chipset?

ATI has a driver listed for Linux x64 for the Radeon x1250 and this is what happens when you run it, I got the same results with Fedora 12 also. Ubuntu runs GREAT on my laptop, but 3D acceleration would be nice, if I can get this driver, I will be set free of Microsoft almost completely. Any ideas? Please do not suggest I buy a new laptop, its a Turon X2 and its powerful enough for me.

SO, its clear that I have no 3d acceleration, my second display is all garbled like the refresh rates isnt being applied properly, and It would seem some lame generic driver is loaded for my GPU, does anyone have any idea if and when or where a proper Hardware driver for the x1250 series will be released?

I recently installed ubuntu 9.10 dual boot. All went well until I upgraded the video drivers for the nvidia chipset on my motherboard. If I leave Gnome to start with the single user i created i get a black screen and 'mode not supported ' message on the monitor. BUT if i drop to root and 'startx' all is well and i can adjust the various screen resolutions and they all work well.
At this point i created another user name to check, and that works fine also, but if i drop back to the original user i get no screen unless i select 800x600, although all the other resolutions work fine with root and the other user name. Im stumped as I presume there's only one xorg.conf file for all users.

After having a lot of issues with my card on Ubuntu 9.04, I sadly, removed it an installed XP over it. (XP is better than Vista at least, which is what came with my Laptop, I'm still recovering from THAT traumatic experience.) I have an Acer Extensa 4420, which has a Radeon Xpress 1250 Graphics Card. I tried it again with Ubuntu 10.10 and am very pleased, I run Compiz/Desktop Effects just fine, everything is smooth and fast, and most applications run fine.
As of right now, there are two games which will not run properly. Tibia, and Frets on Fire. Both of these (Tibia is 2D Sprite based, Frets on Fire appears to be 3D but might be some sort of isometric 2D variant). They work, but PARTS of the screen flicker. In tibia, the "game window" is fine, runs at a constant 30fps (not bad, it's a slow card after all), but the chat window and inventory windows flicker at a random rate, but usually once or twice per second. On Frets on Fire, it's the colored dots that scroll on the screen, and the stage lights (though those might intentionally flicker, but they seem to follow the pattern of the dots so I'm gonna go with the idea that it's a problem.)
I tried FGLRX for grins, Compiz/etc. still worked but then nothing that used any type of hardware acceleration would even open, so I removed it. Are there any other drivers for the X1250? It's a legacy product, unfortunately. And as ATi is in this war with nVidia right now, with their new 6xxx cards coming out, I don't see any support for my old (it was old when the laptop was new) integrated GPU coming from them.
How can I make it work? Not looking for major 3D gaming here, but I would like those to work!

When I don't install the packages for my ATI graphic cards (xserver-xorg-video-radeon, xserver-xorg-video-ati and radeontool), everything looks fine while my laptop boots and my desktop looks fine when the boot ends. Except that i can't look video or play games cuz it lags too much...which is normal. When I install the packages for my graphic card (xserver-xorg-video-radeon, xserver-xorg-video-ati et radeontool), I can play games, watch videos, but I notice this: when my laptop boot, just before the login screen, I get messy graphic problems...Looks like a broken old tv. Once I login, my background image is covered with white stripes...

I forced my workplace to forgo windows and opt for linux for web and mail server. I'm setting up Centos 5.4 on it and I ran into a problem. The server machine is a HP Proliant DL120 G5 (quad core processor, 4GB Ram, two SATA drives, 150GB each attached to the hardware RAID Controller on board). RAID is enabled in the BIOS.I pop in the Centos disk and go through the installation process.
When I get to the stage where I partition my hard drive,it is showing one hard drive, not as traditional sda.but as mapper/ddf1_4035305a86a354a45.I looked around and figured that I need to give Centos the raid drivers. I downloaded it from:

I follow the instructions and download the aarahci-1.4.17015-1.rhel5.i686.dd.gz file and unzipped it using gunzip. Then on another nix system, i do this:
dd if=aarahci-1.4.17015-1.rhel5.i686.dd of=/dev/sdb bs=1440k Note that I am using a usb floppy drive, hence the sdb. After that, during centos setup, i type: linux updates dd
It asks me where the driver is located. I tell it and the installation continues in the graphical mode. But I still get mapper/ddf1_4035305a86.a354a45 as my drive. I tried to continue to install centos on it. It was successfull but when i do a "df -h" it gives me /dev/mapper/ddf1_4035305a86......a354a45p1 as /boot
/dev/mapper/ddf1_4035305a86......a354a45p2 as /
/dev/mapper/ddf1_4035305a86......a354a45p3 as /var

Well i know why it's giving these, because i set it up that way, but i was hoping it would somehow change to the normal /dev/sda, /dev/sdb. That means that the driver i provided did not work. I have another IBM server (5U) with raid scsi drive and it shows the usual /dev/sda. It also has hardware raid. So i know that there is something wrong with the /dev/mapper/ddf1_4035305a86......a354a45p1 format.
First, is there any way that I can put the aarahci-1.4.17015-1.rhel5.i686.dd (floppy image) on a CD?. I really need to set this up with raid. I know i could simply disable raid in bios and then i would get two normal hard drives sda and sdb. But it has to be a raid setup. Any way to slipstream the driver into the centos dvd? The hp link i provided above, under installation instructions, there are some instructions titled "Important". But I couldn't get it to work.

I'm a bit of fedora/linux newbie, and I just installed 12. I'm wondering if I need to install drivers for my 925x/ICH6R chipset or ati 4350? I'm using the 4350 to stream video to the TV. I have the BIOS set to RAID on the ich6r, b/c I may add a storage array in the future, but the boot disk is on a singe hdd. I actually downloaded the ati drivers, but the instructions had so many dependencies I got a little overwhelmed

I recently acquired a few japanese anime which have English subtitles. All the videos are in .mp4 format. They have embedded subtitles (though not hardsubbed, since I can turn them off). My question is how do I edit and re-embed these subtitles, since the translations are less-than-perfect?

I use EasyTAG to edit the tags of my music. I believed I could also use EasyTAG to remove embedded album art, but this is not entirely the case.EasyTAG appears able to remove references to an embedded image so that the image will not appear in audio players and tag editors. However, the image must still exist within the audio file because the file size remains exactly the same. Contrast this with Mp3tag where removing album art also decreases the audio file's size.My question: is this a bug on EasyTAG's part? If so, what Linux program could I use instead?

My sound is otherwise working fine, but for some reason i'm not getting any sound when running java applets. This issue is very important to me, i would -really- like to get the sound back on this applet.it's a java runtime environment applet, running in embedded in firefox. Somehow, the systems isn't detecting it as a application outputting sound.
i tried uninstalling the sound manager application via synaptic, selected the 'completely remove' option, and wound up uninstalling essentially the entire OS last weekend. i'd like to not repeat that mishap, as i lost all my data.

I'm running xubuntu 10.04 32bit on this particular machine, and have embedded flash video from blip.tv not showing in my browsers (Chromium daily, and Firefox). The site in question is [URL] These videos show on my other machines, including other Ubuntu 10.04 installs, however nothing loads on my machine. By inspecting the element is still see it in the source code:

Just doesn't display. I'm using the standard flashplugin-installer package, and have tried reinstalling it with no luck. I've also tried going directly to blip.tv and they do not display either. I'm trying to set up a new HTPC and can't get sound to work over HDMI. If I set System > Preferences > Sound > Hardware and set the profile to Analog Stereo Duplex, I get sound from the speaker port just fine.However if I set the profile to Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output I get nothing on my TV. Ok, so let me first start off by saying I'm a linux noob. I feel no shame. I've been working on trying to solve my issue for a few days now and after much research I am still no better off. But I am able to at least narrow down my problem. The long and short of it is that my HDMI audio device is not showing up in Ubuntu 10.4 x64 edition. Let me give a few specs.
Motherboard: ASROCK 785GMH/128
Onboard video: ATI Radeon HD 4200
Onboard audio: VIA VT1708S
OS: Ubuntu 10.4 x64
Alsa drivers: alsa-driver-1.0.23
ATI Drivers: ATI Catalyst 10.6
Running the latest version of ALSA and ATI's proprietary linux drivers. I can see all outputs (including the s/pdif) except the HDMI. From my reading there should be a device listed on a 2nd card called ATI HDA HDMI aplay -l returns the following result:

How can i install it? Which version of Catalyst is better to use? I know that Catalyst 9.3 is the latest version, which has full support of ati x1250, in later drivers my video-card is "legacy". I'm searching for a long period of time and can't find the answer... may be it is impossible to install suitable Catalyst for my ati on lenny and it is better to use older Debian? And if Yes, then which one?

I'm running apache2 on Hardy and Karmic machines. I converted some .flv's to .wmv's using VLC and embedded them in my index.html file. Now, when I go to view them from Vista machines (32 or 64, IE or Firefox), they look compressed or skinny like this: [URL] When viewed on other Ubuntu or XP machines, they look fine.

i've had ubuntu 10.04 for almost 2 months and when i first installed all the media codecs and used chromium everything worked fine and I was able to watch videos on [URL] but for past 2 weeks I haven't...there's been no change to my files, justed updated Chromium. I can view .mov video's in the media players or if I have the direct address but not embedded.

Originally, the embedded flash video played just fine on Ubuntu 9.10 by Adobe Reader 9.0. However, when the same video was replayed on an upgraded Ubuntu 10.10, the video part was fine fine while the audio couldn't be heard. Anyone encountered the same problem? Anyway to fix it?

I have a ICM532 chipset based webcam (D-Link DSB-C320). I could not find a solution across the forums to get the camera working properly for me on Ubuntu 10.10. There is a thread [URL] concerning the same chipset on the forums, but it is quite old. I do not want to risk breaking my system while attempting the fix. It would be really helpful if you could help me on the same. Also, when I check the webcam through Cheese, I get images with alternating yellow-tinge and blue-tinge.

Iceweasel, Konqueror, makes no difference. Embedded flash videos make them crash every time. I had to install Flash Control on Iceweasel just to make it usable.

I'm having troubles using this not so new webcam. I didnt found any thread that have a problem like mine. In older kernel versions the webcam started working compiling and installing zc3xx module, but as far as I googled and lsmod this module now comes with default kernel. As I can see, the module itself recognizes the webcam, but fails in the process.Does someone have some idea of fixing? Should I report it to launchpad (and so, which section?)?

It gets stuck at the splash screen(the ubuntu logo) However it can boot in failsafe graphics mode and it boots with no problem if my second display is connected. It freezes if I try to change my display settings and it tells me my graphics card is not recognized. I'm using Lucid Lynx. I tried to do a fresh start but grub loads before the ubuntu cd and/or usb drive.

I have been using ubuntu for quite a long time, and for the first time, I am now unable to set nvidia drivers to work. I have just install ubuntu 9.10 amd64 on an AMD 64 athlong X2 with a GEForce 6500 nvidia card.
The only reason I need the proprietary drivers is to use two monitors.
I am going crazy, I have tested everything I have found on the web. I have tried all the nvidia drivers version, I have tried envyng, ... but nvidia do not work!!
I am trying Xinerama with nv, but it does not work either!!!
Here is my xorg.conf file in which I have tried to use nv driver to set dual monitor. X fails to load and it says that screen 0 is deleted, that devices are found but there are no matches in the config file. Any clue?

I've seen a bit about the display being frozen on intel integrated displays, but I do not see the answer anywhere. Does anyone know how to fix this problem: Ubuntu 9.10 boots and runs just fine for 10, 20 or even 30 minutes performing variety of tasks. Then, without warning the display is frozen. The mouse can move the pointer just fine, but I cannot interact with the desktop and the machine must be shutdown by holding the power button.
I've observed this while playing a Kpatience game, general surfing of the internet, and view ..... videos. One time it happened when the display powers off after being idle, but this is not consistently the case. I have tried to make the freeze happen, but am unable to do so (so it seems, anyway). What is happening here? Here are the details of my system:

I recently installed Debian Jessie on my computer with M2A-VM motherboard and Radeon X1250 graphics card. The problem I am having is some games are running extremely slow, Torc and Mame64. I ran glxgears and it displayed gears running nicely. I ran glxinfo and it said direct rendering yes. It also displayed a lot of lined ending with none or slow. How I can make the graphics card run faster?

In [URL] I can right-click on a flash video and have the option to access "local settings" under "Settings" to specify configuration for webcam, mic, etc. But in Facebook I need to adjust a setting and the "Setting" option for local config is gray-ed out, I can't access it.
I'm running OpenSUSE 11.4, and I've seen this in GNOME and KDE within Firefox.
