Ubuntu Multimedia :: 3xMonitor With Nvidia And Integrated Intel GPU?

Dec 25, 2010

I previously had a dual output Nvidia 7300le which worked fine with 2 monitors (2xDell e196fp). Now however I have just added a new monitor to my setup (and a different graphics card). I've gotten to the stage where it recognises all 3 monitors (2xdell 196fp and 1x samsung syncmaster) and also the new graphics card (Nvidia PCIe 210)...it took me ages to get to this stage and a lot of hacking around in the bios!

I've got it so that it runs two monitors fine (the two connected to the graphics card) but I cant manage to extend the desktop onto the monitor connected to the integrated GPU (I can on windows). It definitely recognises it as when I startup it gives me a command prompt on the 3rd window (integrated gpu) and then when I do startx it runs the session on the other two monitors!

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Intel Integrated Video In Maverick - Can't Enable Desktop Effects

Oct 17, 2010

I am fairly new to Ubuntu, so I'm sorry if I don't include any necessary information. Installed 10.10 rc from CD about 3 days prior to official release and everything was working fine... went about installing software and setting up laptop for use. About one week later, got prompted for upgrade and went ahead through update manager. Now can't enable desktop effects. Right after upgrade had a period where title bars of windows would not display... menus were present, but no title bars, no maximize/minimize/close buttons and no dragging windows to new locations on screen That has since resolved itself. Spent quite awhile searching forums, created xorg.conf at one point, later deleted it.

compiz-check says this:

OpenSUSE Hardware :: 11.3 On Intel Core I5 With Integrated Graphics + Intel H55 Express Chipset

Aug 18, 2010

! I'm thinking of buying a corei5-660 on a motherboard with an Intel H55 Express Chipset. Does anyone know if it's fully compatible with OpenSUSE 11.3? I mean video (that comes from the processor, not an off-board PCI), audio (HD Audio), networking (Intel 82578DC Gigabit), SATA Controller, USB, etc. I've tried to google but didn't find much info so I wonder if anyone is using or knows where I can find more info about it...

I have found this thread on the forums about the H55 chipset: Core i3 Intel Clarkdale graphic controller problem But the problems were facing on 11.2, I don't know about 11.3...

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Get Nvidia Card To Work On Dell With Integrated Graphics?

May 25, 2010

I have a PCI graphics card, Nvidia Geforce FX 5500, but can't get it to work. I have 10.04 installed on a Dell Dimension 3000, P4, 1Gb RAM, integrated graphics. I installed 10.04 without the card in the machine, then shut down and plugged the card in and booted it up again (BIOS setting is 'onboard' for integrated graphics, 8Mb; only other option is 'auto'). Checking the hardware drivers I can see the recommended Nvidia drivers (v173, not yet activated) and lspci gives me the integrated as well as the Nvidia listing:

01:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Nvidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5500] (rev a1)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 8286G Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

So far so good, but that's where it ends. Changing the BIOS setting to 'auto' turns the screen off on reboot, both for the monitor connected to the VGA port of the Nvidia card and for the monitor connected to the VGA port of the motherboard. I have to shutdown, take the card out and set the BIOS back to 'onboard' to be able to boot again (and shutdown, plug the card back in and boot up again to get back to where I was).

Activating the recommended hardware driver and rebooting (still with BIOS set to onboard) gives a blank screen (screen is still on and there may have been a flash of the purple screen with the ubuntu logo); nothing else happens no matter how long I wait. Rebooting doesn't help, it turns off the screen; same result for booting in recovery mode. I can get to the GRUB bootloader and when I replace 'quiet splash' with 'nomodeset' I manage to boot again with the monitor connected to the VGA port of the motherboard, but am not anywhere closer to getting my monitor working on the Nvidea card.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Acer 1200X - Nvidia 8200 Integrated GPU Dual Monitor

Feb 7, 2010

I have an Acer 1200X with an Nvidia 8200 graphics GPU integrated on the motherboard. I have an HDMI and VGA output. I have downloaded the Nvidia graphics driver using envyNG and the old fashioned way. I have tried configuring the monitors 15 ways from Sunday in the configuration and I cannot for the life of me get dual monitors to work.

When I go into configuration with the Nvidia wizzard it blanks like its going to work then just stays black with the mouse cursor. I also cannot save as I get a "parsing" error. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and have even tried using envyNG to get the monitors to work on twinview... NOTHING Hope someone can help!

My dad who is a Linux nut came over to help and he left 3 hours later because were tempted to chuck the computer out the window...I need to figure this out as this is going to be my work computer and I need dual screens.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Display A Full Screen With An Nvidia Integrated Graphics Controller

Nov 5, 2010

I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10. However the bottom of the screen is cut off with only a trace of it visible. I had similar problems with version 10.04 where both and top and bottom of the screen were not displayed.

I have noticed that version 10.10 does not use the proprietry driver the previous versions used.

In desparation I have tried Kubuntu but the results are still much the same.

Does anyone have any idea how I can display a full screen with an Nvidia integrated graphics controller.

Debian Multimedia :: Integrated Intel Video And High-def Video W/vaapi?

Jul 6, 2011

I have an integrated intel video and latest xserver-xorg-video-intel driver(using only stable repo). Now I wanna watch high-res video. From the bits of info collected from all over internet I understood that I need to:

1.aptitude install libdrm libva.

2.compile or find the .deb mplayer-vaapi and install it.

3.add -vo vaapi -va vaapi to the mplayer command line in gnome-mplayer.

My question : is that correct or did I miss something? Do I have to compile latest libdrm and libva or the ones from the squeeze repo will be good? Do I need kms enabled, i.e. install firmware-linux-nonfree?

Hardware :: Flash EEPROM Intel Integrated Ethernet?

May 10, 2010

I have an ethernet card that used to work with Linux, but it had its firmware corrutped. (not as a result of the kernel its a different model) I think it had something to do with the thunderstorm I was using the computer in. Anyway, it is an Intel 82562EZ 10/100 Ethernet Controller (rev 01). The device manager in windows xp calls it an Intel PRO/100 VE card, which I think is the same thing. The card works in windows but not in linux. Upon firing up the intel proset software, and running hardware diagnostics the test says the eeprom test failed. Is there any way I can flash the eeprom so I can have a working card?

EDIT: Card fixed after leaving unplugged. It is important to also unplug the power supply connectors from the motherboard as well as capacitors may not discharge otherwise. Also be sure to remove the cmos battery. Oh, yeah don't try to use that intel utility on integrated networking devices. "IBAUTIL is not intended as a utility for LAN-On-Motherboard (LOM) [integrated] implementations."

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Frame Tear On Intel HD GMA And NVidia GeForce 310M?

Jul 25, 2011

I bought an asus U33JC and except for one major issue (frame tear) it works fine out of the box using 11.04 64bit, with some minor issues easily solved (suspend, upside down cam on skype, flash and java). The U33JC has optimus, but also a bios option to disable the Intel GMA. So I could use the on chip Intel GMA or disable it and use the discrete GF310M.

The major issue I have now is poor video playback. Frame tear occurs in every single configuration I tried: Either using the internal Intel GMA, or disabling the Intel via bios option and using the NVidia proprietary drivers or even using bumblebee. This frame tear occurs also on the desktop, but the real problem is that it's very noticeable on video, specially when connecting my HD TV via HDMI. I tested 720p h264 mkv videos and even low res xvid avis in totem and mplayer/Smplayer all equally poor. Using mplayer I tried several vo options, such as xv (intel? xv) and x11, and playback is poor on all of them. Oh, and I don't use compiz (don't care for it). Refresh rate is 60Hz, and should be the right one. It works fine with vlc on the soon to be transformed into free space windows7, but that's not an option for me. I used Ubuntu before on a laptop, but I usually use Gentoo, so I'm not familiar with the ubuntu distro.

The purpose of this laptop was to be my "tv media center" when at home and my work laptop for travelling (13 inch ! ). But it failed miserably on the first count. I'm still using my old celeron based Gentoo laptop with RGB out to my tv for that, still with much better results (it can decode only up to 720p, which is fine). But it is dying! I really don't understand why playback is so poor. Could messing with xconf be the answer?

EDIT: Here's my xorg log. NO VSYNC? Is this right? Please help.

Hardware :: Tweak An Intel Atom D510 W/ Integrated GPU - When Login - Background Doesn't Fade In Gradually

May 2, 2010

I have a new Intel Atom D510 and I'm pretty pleased with it so far. The board is Zotac NM10-ITX.

My first issue was that during long and fast downloads (like transferring my home directory over the network) the system become pretty unusable: web pages would time out, windows would take more than few seconds to load, etc. I solved this by recompiling the kernel for the Atom. (The compile time wasn't that bad actually because the system is pretty simple and it was easy to isolate only the drivers I needed).

My next issue is that certain GUI-related things seem a little sluggish. For example, when the GDM loads it's not smooth like on other computers. When I log in, my background doesn't fade in gradually, it does so in about 1-2 frames. I was thinking this might be an issue with the GPU. It uses the i915 kernel module. Is there some tweaking I can do?

Code:

I was expecting to see a memory region of prefetchable memory around 128M here. Is this a problem?

What are you atom users doing to speed up your systems? I'm on Archlinux and I'm using a BFS patched kernel.

OpenSUSE Install :: DELL Latitude E6410 - Core I7 M620 With Integrated Intel HD Graphics - Blank Screen

Aug 19, 2010

I have been unable to get both opensuse 11.2 and 11.3 32 bit versions work properly on my DELL Latitude E6410 laptop. One peculiar thing is that 11.1 installs and boots fine, what gives? Is this even supported or I shouldn't even try to bother getting this setup to work? Has anyone been able to run opensuse 11.3 on a Core i7 integrated Intel graphics system with X system working?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Integrated Webcam Recognized But Not Working With 10.10?

Apr 16, 2011

I recently rebooted my computer, switching from Vista to Ubuntu 10.10, 32 bit. I've had troubles with my webcam ever since. I've tried every single suggestion from the Ubuntu Forums and nothing works, and I am now quite desperate..

I'm installed Cheese but nothing else than a green dotted screen appears, I've also tried gucview which tells me that my webcam is recognized under the name of USB 2.0 Camera.

When I enter lsusb in the terminal, here is what appears:

natacha@natacha-EasyNote-MX36:~$ lsusb
Bus 006 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

[Code].....

The webcam doesn't work with any program, but since it does partially work with Cheese, I would think that I either have to install an additional driver or that my camera is not compatible with Ubuntu, which would really suck.

The closest similar case I've found on the net was this one : [URL] . Apparently it's about a Bug 16575 but the problem doesn't seem to have been resolved either.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Using Non-integrated Sound By Default In Natty?

May 3, 2011

So I did the update to Natty and it went pretty smoothly, with one exception. My rig has two sound cards in it: the integrated motherboard sound card (Intel HDA audio) that I don't use, and a Sound Blaster Audigy (the original Audigy 1) that I do use.

This setup has worked fine in Ubuntu for as long as I can remember, but after the upgrade to Natty it appears that GNOME no longer knows that the Audigy is the card that's in use. It insists on routing things like volume changes via gnome-volume-control to the motherboard. I can confirm this by watching the volume levels for each card in alsamixer while modifying them in gnome-volume-control; the levels move appropriately on the integrated card, and stay stuck on the Audigy.

What makes this bizarre is that it's not that the Audigy isn't recognized -- it's shown in the "Hardware" tab of Sound Preferences, and the system plays back audio just fine through the speakers connected to the Audigy. It's just that I can't change the volume on the sound through the panel applet anymore. Normally I would fix something like this by using the Hardware tab to switch from the one card to the other, but in this case when I make that change it doesn't stick -- if I close the Sound Preferences and then open it again, it's right back to being set to the integrated audio.

Maybe this is a PulseAudio issue with older Audigy cards? I have no idea.

I can change the volume with my speakers' volume knob and my keyboard's media keys, I suppose, but I'm so used to be able to change it via gnome-volume-control that not being able to feels bizarre. Has anyone else out there with add-on sound cards installed alongside motherboard audio experienced this?

I really wanna use the OS. I want to be able to play World of Warcraft Wrath of The Lich King but when I try it the way the computer is now the the frame rate is really really slow. I also need to fix my audio because there's crackling that comes from the speakers often. I attached a screen shot of what I get when I enter the command: sudo lshw -c video Changing the resolution isn't the problem so much as the fact that I can't change the refresh rate from "0 HZ" to anything higher so that my game will play smoothly. I would also like to put compiz fushion on my laptop as well but I don't believe it will work unless I resolve this problem.
