Dell Inspiron with dual integrated mics. I get no sound when i try to record with the integrated webcam. I have everything turned all the way up in the mixer, ie: mic, capture, mux, etc but still no sound.
View 2 RepliesI have the MCP55 HD Audio on board. Is there a way to configure the mic to mono, 16 bit with 16000Hz sampling as a system input. The signal will be read by the installed program pocketsphinx_continuous.
This is not to make recordings. I can make these settings in KRecord/KDE3. This is for the system input. The mic works with the program and KRecord.
Or must a compatible sound card be installed?

So I did the update to Natty and it went pretty smoothly, with one exception. My rig has two sound cards in it: the integrated motherboard sound card (Intel HDA audio) that I don't use, and a Sound Blaster Audigy (the original Audigy 1) that I do use.
This setup has worked fine in Ubuntu for as long as I can remember, but after the upgrade to Natty it appears that GNOME no longer knows that the Audigy is the card that's in use. It insists on routing things like volume changes via gnome-volume-control to the motherboard. I can confirm this by watching the volume levels for each card in alsamixer while modifying them in gnome-volume-control; the levels move appropriately on the integrated card, and stay stuck on the Audigy.
What makes this bizarre is that it's not that the Audigy isn't recognized -- it's shown in the "Hardware" tab of Sound Preferences, and the system plays back audio just fine through the speakers connected to the Audigy. It's just that I can't change the volume on the sound through the panel applet anymore. Normally I would fix something like this by using the Hardware tab to switch from the one card to the other, but in this case when I make that change it doesn't stick -- if I close the Sound Preferences and then open it again, it's right back to being set to the integrated audio.
Maybe this is a PulseAudio issue with older Audigy cards? I have no idea.
I can change the volume with my speakers' volume knob and my keyboard's media keys, I suppose, but I'm so used to be able to change it via gnome-volume-control that not being able to feels bizarre. Has anyone else out there with add-on sound cards installed alongside motherboard audio experienced this?

I have a problem regarding my sound preferences. I have a microphone and I want to use it to make calls. The problem is that when I speak into the microphone when a program like Skype is used, my sound suddenly crashes(The microphone won't take any input nor will I hear any sound from the speakers if I play a video or music. This gets fixed if I restart the computer). This also happens if I go to Sound preferences → Input or Output and edit something there.
If I don't make any of the above, the sound works just fine as I can listen to music and play videos.
I don't know much about computer hardware but here is some info about my sound card:

I recently manage to make my microphone "work". I open the alsamixer and i unmuted the mic. Easy!!! But as i can hear my voice through the speakers i can't record. Actually i compare the alsamixer with the sound preferences. And what I notice is:
i)When i mute the output volume from the sound icon in the alsamixer is also muted.
ii)The same when I increase or decrease the volume.
iii)But in the input tab if I mute increase or decrease the volume nothing happens!
I can only mute unmute and change volume trhough the alsa mixer!

- The microphone hardware works. Having the volumes up I hear the noise from the speakers when tapping the microphone.
- Soundcard is recognized by OS (and like I said, music and all other sound output is perfectly fine)
I should create the bridge between a linear input and output. It is desirable, with possibility to impose effects on a sound. (But it isn't obligatory)

Alsa and PulseAudio was installed from PPA.
I have no sound input from my microphone. With a fresh install of 11.4/gnome desktop it was working.
Then all I did was installing the multimedia support from the script in the opensuse guide (which interestingly includes some files for k3b so I suspect there is a conflict of libraries now that some kde libs have been installed) and a full system update. After that, my mic has stopped working.

I run ubuntu 10.10 with an 870-g45 motherboard which contains a VIA VT1828S integrated sound chip with 8 audio channels as it states on [URL]... I am having issues with getting microphones to work properly on my computer. Sound output works great but microphones don't. I've noticed when I tested mic's on the sound configuration it would act like it gets input but it would be choppy or laggy sound. Anytime i talk to people on voice chat they say my voice sounds like it keeps clipping in and out and they can't understand a thing I say. Banshee donwloads my video and audio podcasts but can't replay them within the program. I have to go manually (Dolphin) to the corresponding folders and replay them using mPlayer, which is not very handy / fiendly. I tried to install Miro, and so far has not worked (see post here)

The motherboard has an onboard sound chip (which I do not use), and I am actively using the PCI sound card (Aureon 5.1, CM8738).
The microphone is coming with the webcam Logitech E 3500 (which worked under 11.1, but updating to 11.2 keeps me without skype functionality).
I would like to plug my guitar on my pc and hear what I'm playing out of my headphones. I have not found out yet how I can enable direct output. Neither with Line-In, nor Mic-Input worked. Has anyone an idea how to enable it? KMix does not provide such a function as far as I know

I've seen some hints that there might be code-heavy solutions using LADSPA or some JACK SDK, but there's just gotta be a simpler way. I'm hoping for something like

I would want to record/edit/save music from the microphone (convert a tape to CD). But. I start audacity, leave everything at default, record the music, and play back. It plays agonisingly slow. I can change the sample rate manually such that it sounds good, but this is just a guess (I could for example measure the recording time, and adjust the sample rate after that, such that the displayed time on the timeline fits this time). Why the hell do I need to do this? Why is the recording sample rate = playbe sample rate not producing correct output?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a DFI RS482 mobo with integrated sound. I am making a car puter and only have a 2GB CF card, so I installed a server install of Ubuntu. Then I got xserver-xorg, mplayer, and fluxbox. I downloaded and installed the latest nvidia driver. Mplayer spit out tons of sound errors and that's when I realized the server install has no sound. So I installed the 'alsa', 'pulseaudio' and 'pavucontrol' packages. Now mplayer does not complain and acts like it is playing sound, but nothing happens sound-wise. Pavucontrol shows mplayer as playing sound and the volume as unmuted. However the PCM output is going to "dummy output" and the configuration tab says there are no cards to be configured.
So I think my sound card is not being detected. I don't know what to do at this point.

I've got openSUSE 11.2 installed. Works quite well in general.Today I tried using my microphone for the first time but had no success. I tried to playing with volume settings but to no avail.I recording something with arecord -f cd test.wavand tried playing it back with aplay test.wavbut got nothing.Then I thought I'd look at my sound card configuration.
