I have installed moto4lin, as I want to be able to get pictures off my razr v3mM, which I could easily do in Windows. I found a guide for connecting a v3m, but for some reason moto4lin is screwing around with me. Here is my log:
[info] Phone is unplugged. Please connect it
[info] Phone plugged as AT
[info] Switching device /dev/ttyACM0 to P2K mode...

When booting up my IBM Thinkpad Ubuntu stalls giving the following messages:
Cannot open root device "uuid=58a5831c-5757-49f8.....
Kernal Panic - not syncing: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block
Spurious ACK on isa0060/serio0. Some program might be trying to access hardware directly.
I am or was using Hardy.
It seems to me that the program is telling me it can't find the hard drive or the partition where the OS resides. I have my drive partitioned with into sections for booting, the OS and my Home directory.
I have an Ubuntu server x64 (10.04) that is running FOG for imaging Its installed on an Intel server board (1 RU rackmount) I configured the RAID in an Intekl based BIOS utility which Looks similar to This Ubuntu installed and runs perfectly. however im unable to monitor the status of the drives from the OS, so Im unaware of any drive failures that may occur I manged to install megacli but it returns blank data (along with exit code: 0x00) Iv also tryed megactl wich says
Code:
unable to open device /dev/megadev0: No such file or directory
one of my colleagues who had used the server previously was certain that the raid was on board the intel site also makes mention of intel using LSI products in their RAID controllers Relevant section of dmidecode:
Code:
Handle 0x0002, DMI type 2, 8 bytes Base Board Information Manufacturer: Intel
I have installed it (11.3) with KDE desktop.I have a problem with openening a device (harddisc) directly from sysinfo:/It is a ext4 partition, but also with my others (ntfs), this error occurs...
if I want to print a regular document from the main tray, no problem. If I want to print an 8x11 photo from the main tray. slight problem (might be ink related, still researching that side). But if I want to print a 4x6 or a 5x7 from Linux massive problem Printer: HP Photosmart D5460. Will not print from the Gimp at all, I get the following when I try to print a photo using the Gimp: A page from the main tray with text similar to this:
"****Unable to open the initial device, quitting"
Actually for the last several years under OpenSuSE I have never been able to print a photo from the Gimp. It always prints some text error then quits OR will print the error at the top of every sheet in the tray until the printer either is manually unplugged / turned off OR it runs out of paper. The printer I have is listed as working perfectly according to Open Printing dot org. But none of my applications seem to be able to get the printer tray to operate for the smaller photos. Currently I have to copy the images to a card in the printer then print from the card. Unacceptable if you ask me.[URL]... what photo capable printer out there actually works 100% with OpenSuSE? And I mean I can access all the trays from all the applications I could possibly use, as well as monitor ink levels, perform maintenance and so forth.
I rebooted my server and out of nowhere the RAID5 array won't assemble. I've tried everything I could think of to reassemble the thing. I fear that the array is ruined, but I can't imagine how. Here are various bits of information: The simplest failure (with and without partition numbers, which have not been needed in the past):
Code:
richard@nas:~$ sudo mdadm --assemble --verbose /dev/md0 /dev/sd[bcd] mdadm: looking for devices for /dev/md0 mdadm: cannot open device /dev/sdb: Device or resource busy
I know they are old, but I will probably have my v3m for a while. I would like to connect to it to transfer ring tones, pictures, and contacts, etc. moto4lin installed and runs fine. I have assigned the device id's and device file name. I get a message when I plug and unplug the phone so I know I have the correct addressability. When I press the connect/disconnect button, I get
Code:
[info] Phone is unpluged. Please connect it [info] Phone pluged as P2K Try to connect
[code]......
Before someone jumps on me for running as root, there are posts all over the internet that indicates that root is required.
Right now I am struggling to fix my Motorola RAZR V3 phone (it is just one year old). The problem is that the internal speakers (the regular ones, used to listen to the caller) are apparently set to a quite low volume and I can not hear almost anything. Researching similar cases I learned about the existence of several software tools designed to hack the phone and raise the volume on the aforementioned speakers; unfortunately those tools are Windows-only.
I also stumbled into a Linux program (moto4linux) which apparently would allow me to do the same thing, unfortunately I've been unable to connect to my phone using that program. Before I go any further in my attempts to force moto4linux to connect to my phone, could anyone please confirm that such program is actually able to hack the phone's speakers the way I want to? Or is it merely for file & contacts synchronizing?
I just compiled my first own kernel (I'm using Arch Linux), following the tutorial on the german site. Now I tried to boot it, I ended up failing with this message: Code: Waiting 10 seconds for device /dev/sda1 ... Root device '/dev/sda1' doesn't exist, Attempting to create it. ERROR: Unable to determine major/minor number of root device '/dev/sda1' Here is the important part of my menu.lst:
[Code]....
I simply copy&pasted the Arch-entry, i.e. I also had the disk by uuid there. The failure message was the same, just the root device name was the different name Also, at first I did not have the initrd line in my menu.lst (as written in my tutorial that I may not need it). In this case I had this error message:
As of this morning I cannot open pdf's by clicking on them in firefox. I can download them and open them from the download window or even from the folder they are saved to, but not from the browser. Evince opens and says: Unable to open document Error opening file: No such file or directory.
I installed Ubuntu 9.10 a few days ago, did the updates, surfed on the net, mounted a slave drive and read everything on it, shut down, pulled the slave out and now I can't boot.
After the post screens I get: Verifying DMI pool data Grub loading error: the symbol 'grub-device-open' not found grub rescue>
I think way back I had to reinstall grub or something on another machine I had but I don't remember anything about it. Is that what I have to do and how? Is it because I pulled that slave drive out that this happened? I want to get some more files off the slave as I wasn't finished.
I have a redhat ES3 I want virtualized.the virtual machine encounters a problem starting when it is virtualized

Evince in non-gnome systems is unable to open external link. The error msg it shows is
Code:
Unable to open external link The specified location is not supported. I have already googled it, however it only says it is a bug, without any solution available. Evince in gnome systems however work just fine. Is there any way evince can use sensible-browser to open external links?
I run Ubuntu 9.10 locally connecting to CentOS5 on a remote server. When I run the following command in the Terminal;ssh -v -L 10005:localhost:10000 root@remote_ip_address -F ~/.ssh_config -i ~/.ssh/private_key_file_nameafter 'Authentication succeeded (publickey)' I get the following for channel 1;sys_tun_open: failed to open tunnel control interface:Permission deniedhowever, it does open an interactive client-session on channel 2 and my browser will then connect (via URL localhost:10005) to Webmin on the remote server which is the object of the exercise. However, because sys_tun_open failed, I am concerned that the transactions may not be encrypted as I understand they would be in proper tunnelling
I have been trying to get tvtime or any tv package to work with my Pinnacle PCTV HD usb but I have not had success. I have correctly installed every driver imaginable. So, here is what it what it comes down to: When I open tvtime it says "cannot open capture device /dev/video0" and the screen is blue. But my usb PCTV HD stick is NOT /dev/video0 so the question is how can I get tvtime to look for the usb tv tuner rather than video0?
I'm trying to view the output of a dv firewire capture device (advc-100) fullscreen through vlc. I've read of people being able to do this but a detailed explanation of how eludes me.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 and VLC 1.1.4
The error message I'm given after trying to open through 'media>open capture device>play' is;
Quote:
Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'v4l2:///dev/ffc1/'. Check the log for details.
(and I can't find the log)
I'm not even sure if I've got the device name right so I ran lspci from the command line which gave the following output (and I still can't work out what it is);
when I click on any folder under places. for example if I click on my home folder or video folder. Or any folder under places. I get a document viewer message in Red. Saying "Unable to open document" "cant open directory" how I can fix this?? im on 11.04

i want to open and read /dev/pts/o file as a user how can i open? using normal fopen and fread functions? is it possible to open lik dat ? it der any alternate way to open and read the device files in ubuntu
I have added CentOS5.5 x86-64 to a linux box that already contains installations of Ubuntu 9 and SL 5.2. Grub2 was installed with Ubuntu and is on the MBR of the disk. I did not install grub with anaconda/Cent. Grub update in ubuntu finds the Cent install and addes it to the grub.conf, and Cent appears in the grub menu at boot. If I select Cent, I get the following error. VFS: Cannot open root device "sda7" or unknown-block(0,0) Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Below is the output of boot_info_script, which gives the relevant boot file data. There are still grub conf files on the SL install, but grub is not installed there anymore. Boot Info Script 0.55 dated February 15th, 2010 => Grub 2 is installed in the MBR of /dev/sda and looks on the same drive in partition #6 for /boot/grub ..... sda3/boot/grub/grub.conf: # grub.conf generated by anaconda # Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file # NOTICE: You do not have a /boot partition. This means that all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /, eg. # root (hd1,2) # kernel /boot/vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/sdb3 # initrd /boot/initrd-version.img
I just added a 2 port network card to a system that is running Fedora 11, but it is INACTIVE. I open the Network Device Control to activate it but there is no network ports in Network Device Control. It is empty. It looks like the system recognize the card and loaded correct driver.
I was trying to burn an .iso with K3b a little while ago, and had some problems. First of all, even though I chose 8x to burn my (16x) DVD, it switched to 11x or 12x around halfway through the burning process. There were also some ticking noises that I'm pretty sure were coming from the DVD writer, not terribly loud, but noticeable. This had never happened before. Finally, it got stuck at about 98% (but not frozen, as the time elapsed kept going), and did not finish burning--got an error message (and a bad disc): "cdrecord has no permission to open the device"
I inspected the disc and there was one dark spot (on the dye) about halfway through the disc, very thin and couple of millimeters long. (This was present only after burning). I'm using Ubuntu 10.04, K3b version 1.91.0, Lite-On DVDRW SHW-160P6S
I've made a lot of progress getting my easycap 2.0 usb capture device to work with ubuntu 10.10. I've got the picture up any everything works great. But about a minute into the stream it just freezes, I need to go into "playback" and either pause then play, or click "next", it then refreshes and works again for another minute or so. I'd believe it if someone says faulty hardware because the easycap is cheap, but I don't think that's the case. Additionally, is there any way to set VLC so that when I open it, it automatically opens with my video capture device (/dev/video0) so that I don't have to go into the options and change it every time?
Still getting the "cdrecord has no permission to open the device" error when trying to burn an iso image to a DVD-RW.
I did yet another clean install of openSUSE 11.2 64 on my desktop computer, did updates, added Nvidia and Packman repos (it's not a repo problem as I tried it several times on a totally clean install), added codecs and stuff as advised by caf.
I updated the DVD drive firmware earlier today.
My user is a member of ALL groups.
Drive is an LG GH22NSS50 (sata)
It all works (with the same DVD-RW) under winxp on the same machine.
Is it HAL or something else that blocks permission to devices?
I'm really getting sick to death of this problem, and would be happy just to get rid of anything blocking permissions to the DVD drive.
I have installed the Jack audio connection kit from [URL] The two listed dependencies, libsndfile and libsamplerate are installed and everything seemed to go well, except it's not listed in the KDE menus. But that's Ok. I can start it from /usr/bin/jackd But no I can't because I get these error messages:

My scanner is Benq 5000 ,the default scanning software (xsane) give me the following message whenever I plug the scanner to the pc : Failed to Open Device 'Snapscan:libusb:005:002' Invalid Argument. I tried the gnome image scanning software too but it didn't recognize the scanner at all. The only software that worked is vuescan but unfortunately it is non-free software !!!!
