View 2 RepliesI am pasting sudo commands without problems as a user (ales in my case) and then immediately the ask the user password.
The keyboard seems to be dead, no keys work, not allowing me to enter the password.
Succeeded in connecting to internet using my wll phone. I can now connect using 'wvdial' command in root terminal. But I want to connect through terminal. I tried 'sudo wvdial' command. Then I am asked for my password. But I cannot type my password there. When I type, nothing appears on the terminal window. Ofcourse there's no problem with my keyboard.

When tab is opened, mutt is started.
Tab starts when xfce starts terminal emulator.

I am running Ubuntu 10.4 on a 32-bit machine, and I find that my gnome-terminal profile settings are not being saved across a restart. However, I can make the profiles save if I run gnome-terminal under root access. This makes me suspect that I have a permissions problem, but I am set up to run as Administrator, and I am the only user, so I am baffled why this isn't working. It certainly did work in version 9.10 on the same box.
This is getting irritating, since I have a method of setting up a development web server/debugger environment which requires 3 different tabs with associated profiles to make each a distinct set of colors and behavior.
So I used Arch linux for a while and was really impressed and how colorful the commandline output was. Not only from ls, which I was able to emulate by adding "alias ls="ls --color"" to my .bashrc, but also during, say, bootup and other times.Anyway, I was just wondering, what tricks do you guys use to make your command line experience more visually appealing? Fonts, colors, hacks, terminal profiles?

Two or three times on a daily basis it just freezes and I do not know why. For example, I am doing some minor coding, surfing the web and just some regular stuff and suddenly, out of nowhere, it just freezes. I cannot force reboot, cannot shutdown, cannot run, cannot enter terminal, nothing. Totally helpless. Only physical reboot do the work. Never had this issue before.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Debian Stable last night, and everything appear to go smoothly. Today, I booted up the new OS to try it out for the first time. As I was exploring a few of the features, I decided to pull up a web browser. No internet connection.
No big deal, I thought, as I searched around for a way to connect wirelessly. I couldn't find a way to do so. I consulted one of my more Linux savvy friends, who advised me to pull up the terminal and enter a command to start the network-manager. According to the terminal, no such file currently exists on my system.
This is a bit of a conundrum for me, since I am on my university campus with no ethernet cord to attempt a direct connection. Is there any way to get the network-manager onto my computer? Also, did I mess up somewhere in the installation, or did someone not package the file with CD1 for some unknown reason?

View 5 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, from time to time on login, as my normal theme starts to load, it changes to some sort of silver theme (a very basic one), and I am unable to change it over to any other theme. Checking the theme being used, it still says my desired one is set, but it is not. Also, no matter what theme I change it to, that basic silver theme is the one being used. This includes a default icon theme, not the one I prefer.
The only option that seems to fix things is a restart, and the hope that on this login it won't mess up like before.I am using Natty, from a fresh install, with Ubuntu Classic as my desktop, and have reinstalled things more than once to try and fix a few of the Natty-related issues, but this one keeps coming back.

I installed a theme in emerald, and it didn't do anything, like, it had no effect on my windows or anything. So i did some searching and the only thing i could find was to run "emerald --replace" in the terminal, and it worked, but if I exit out of the terminal, it reverts back to the old theme.How do I keep emerald's theme, even after I exit the terminal?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI updated my laptop from F12 to F14 via preupgrade. After doing so, the standard mouse theme was active. So I installed the one I like again and set it as mouse theme. For some reason it is now a mixture of the one I installed and the standard theme. If I open a place in nautilus the displayed symbol is the right one while waiting, if I open something in control center I get the standard icon. Same problem with drag and drop, I always get the hand from the standard theme. I also tried the former standard theme Bluecurve and it was the same problem.Can anyone tell me what goes wrong with the theme? What has changed in F14, that the older themes won't work?
