I've just tried to install amarok 1.4 with the bogdan sources, but now I've broken dependencies in Kubuntu 10.04.
When trying to sudo apt-get -f install, I got the following output:
I tried several tricks to repair the broken dependencies, but couldn't suceed.
I dont know why but somehow amarok came to startup in my kubuntu machine..
I have checked ~/.kde/Autostart/ but its is empty..
When using Amarok in Kubuntu 10.10, the player will shut down after no specific reason. Sometimes if saving a playlist and sometimes when the player changes from one track to another. I presume this is a bug but sadly i do not have regular access to the internet so my system is sometimes up to a month old but no more.
Has anyone experienced similar performance when using Amarok with Kubuntu?
I have tried linux before but I never found one that suited me. I'm now trying kubuntu 10.04 on my mini laptop but I have run into a problem. I have sounds when the computer start and shutdown and other sounds like incoming mail and stuff just not in amarok or any other media player at all nor on ..... and I've been googling it for the last few days and have found others with simular problems but none running Kubuntu 10.04 so I figured I'd give the solutions they got a try but I just can't get them to work on my computer. Might be my lack of linux skill so please go eazy on me and yes I have checked that the audio is not muted. Which codec pack to be installed and how to do it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've spoken to people on the KDE forum about this but am a bit stumped. They advised me to change the phonon backend of Amarok from xine to phonon-backend-gstreamer or phonon-backend-vlc. The latter doesn't seem to be in the repositaries though someone on the KDE forum said otherwise. When I change to gstreamer, Amarok says it cannot play mp3 files. Apparently Kubuntu 10.04's Amarok is a bit old too but I can't see how to update it - does this involve adding a ppa or something?
I've added two other database-type players, Exaile and Rhythmbox, both designed of course for other desktop environments, but they both give gripes about codecs too or won't play. The xine backend causes jumps in playback mentioned in another post.
I have installed the Kubuntu restricted extras, and I even added w32codecs and nonfreecodecs at one point, now removed (--purged). I don't fancy moving to 10.10 as I like the 3 years of not messing about upgrading/reinstalling. I would ideally update just Amarok and KDE itself.

This has been bothering me for a while. I thought if I waited a dependency would get fixed and the update would work, but it hasn't for a while now. I have included the error when trying to update gcc and the libraries. Skip broken skips everything so no dice there.

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade: E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report.

I have a computer with 128 ko of RAM (a very old one). I installed yesterday ubuntu 8 because ubuntu 9 requires 512 ko of RAM and was very slow. Now, I have problems to update packages and to install every thing. I changed the sources.list because it seems that links are no more available according to the error messages. (I have put many adresses for ubuntu 9 because I think the kernel is the same not as the kernel for ubuntu 10). But new problems have occurred like "broken dependencies". Now I want to correct, and I don't know how? I'm still a beginner with this OS.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Ktorrent installed via the repositories and its always worked perfectly. Today I ran software update with KPackageKit and it installed updates. It told me that KTorrent had to be removed to continue and without thinking I hit ok. Now my KTorrent is gone. When I try to install it on the terminal with

E: Broken packages If I remove and reinstall ktorrent-data it doesn't help. build-dep doesn't help. autoremove and then trying to reinstall doesn't help. I'm not running some strange dev version of anything. I have a standard Kubuntu 10.10 amd64 installation and my KDE version is 4.6.2 from the regular repositories. I run updates (standard repositories) almost every day and have never seen anything like this before.

and etc. those files are actually in /usr/lib64/eclipse/plugins/ but system cannot find them as I see.
It happened after I played with Eclipse's software configs and broke some dependencies there. After I tried removing and reinstalingl eclipse I notices that /usr/lib64/eclipse files don't change and I have the same broken sortware install configuration. So I deleted the folder usr/lib64/eclipse and reinstalled Eclipse. It didn't work. I restored usr/lib64/eclipse from eclipse~ and now see that error log. What is the way to fix it or probably remove eclipse completely and reinstall that /usr/lib64/eclipse/ becomes as it was by default.
I have a fairly old debian distribution running on the linux Kernel 2.6.18-4-686 and I did something silly which has broken multiple packages. I use the manual package installation command (sudo dpkg -i filename.deb) to install a single package (gcc base) however I did this using the latest version of the package which seems to have broken my GCC package completely and I am unable to compile c++ anymore.
When I now load the Synaptic Package Manager it tells me that I have 10 broken packages and when I use the fix feature it tells me I need to update other packages to fix the depencies (it selects almost every single package on my system to be removed at this point!).
I cant change the system too much because the software packages are set up specifically to run a certain application and I don't want to change anything incase I make it stop working!
So my question is this:
If I go to the synaptic Package Manager and uninstall the broken packages (they are all gcc related), will I be able to use the aptitude command to install GCC again? If so will it automatically install the version of GCC that will work with my system? or will it try and install the latest version and then update the rest of my system?
A couple of days ago, I upgraded my Kubuntu to Lucid. In this phase, the system reported that it was impossible to upgrade samba-common, and the installation aborted on 90%. Nevertheless everything is working but KPakageKit, which reports:
"There are broken dependecies on your system. Please use an advanced package manage e.g. Synaptic or aptitude to resolve this situation."
Neither "sudo aptitude safe-upgrade" nor "sudo apt-get -f install" solved the problem:

So the problem is really samba-common.
So i upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04. when i ran update manager after the install, it had some stuff for OpenOffice and during the update it hung. I powered off the laptop and turned it back on, booted into ubuntu and tried over but it didn't list the updates again.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAs you may, not that long time ago, Amarok 2* got an equalizer. Amarok 2.3 equalizer behaves differently than equalizers in all other players I used (including Amarok 1.4). I just cannot make Amarok 2 sound right. I set equalizer to Full Bass + Treble preset. It is somewhat better than "Zero" preset, but it sounds too blunt (flat) nonetheless, while in Amarok 1.4 (and in Clementine) this preset sound just right for me.
Details (Amarok 2.3.0):The most obvious difference what I see is preamp (pre-amp), which is set to 0 dB in Amarok 1.4 preset and to -4.9 dB in Amarok 2. When I try to move it up to 0 dB, while Full Bass + Treble preset is active, I get unbearable high pitch distortions already with pre-amp set to -2 dB. I tried playing creating my own preset, but I cannot get the same sound as in Amarok 1.4.
In other words:is there any way to make Full Bass + Treble preset Amarok 2.3.0 sound like Amarok 1.4 preset?I am not an audio expert of any kind, but Amarok 2.3.0 just sounds different (in a bad way) for me. Maybe I am missing something?
For the last few releases, I've remained with Amarok 1.4, but now that I've deemed Amarok 2 stable enough, I've upgrade, however, the lyrics to my songs (which I put in a lot of effort in downloading), are not reflecting. Is there anyway to export lyrics from Amarok 1.4 and import them in Amarok 2?

My recent borked upgrade to -current inspired me to try to come up with a way to sanity-check the lib and bin dirs for broken library symlinks (possibly indicating missing libs) and for binaries and libraries that belong to no installed package, as well as missing dependencies.

The Community plasmoid widget thingy is broken on my 64-bit Kubuntu 11.04 system. The last time it worked was sometime in the 10.04 era. I will gratefully receive any suggestions for fixing it.The symptoms are these: It opens with three tabs: Nearby, Friends, Messages. I expect this.There are no entries in the "Nearby" tab. When I log into opendesktop.org w/Firefox, I can see about a dozen people nearby in my town.When I click on the configuration button, it shows me my username and obscured password for opendesktop.org.When I click on the widget again, it there are more tabs! View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using Ubuntu for a week and getting on well with it. After reading reviews I decided to try Kubuntu. I installed it from the terminal and all seemed to go well. Now when I start the computer and select ubuntu it goes to a log in screen. I type in my user name and password and all I get is a terminal screen in the top left. If I close this I go through a 'broken screen' and back to the sign in.

I have never done anything as root. I posted this request in absolute beginner talk, because I am, but there has been no resolution after three weeks or so.
I installed amarok using synaptic package manager, as well as other audio players. However, its not in Applications->Sound & Video. I couldnt find it anywhere else either.
How do I find it? so far i can only run it from the terminal by simply typing "amarok" but this means that terminal needs to stay up in order to work!

After reading quite a lot about this distro, I have come to know that Slackware doesn't provide tools for managing dependencies. So how do I take care of dependencies?

I installed Debian 6.0.1.a on Friday, but the problem is that installing xfce installed a few packages that have nothing to do with it, like Brasero and metacity. I'm using the xfwm but why were these extra packages installed? All I installed at the time were wicd, gdebi, xorg and xfce4. Everything is working fine...but why the extra bits?
