I'm thinking of buying one of the above as the HP 750 PCS I have hooked up to the wife's iMac is getting long in the tooth and is NOT well supported my Apple! It will either print or scan but not both without rebooting between tasks.One of the attractions of the Kodak is the cheap cost of ownership and they appear to be supported my Apple so that would be good! But what about Ubuntu support as a network printer?
View 1 RepliesI've been using Kubuntu 9.10 for several months now. For most of that time, I configured and used with no problem several network printers.. a HP LaserJet 3015 at home connected to a Windows machine, and a Xerox Phaser 8560 at my coworking space connected directly to a router.
However, several weeks ago I was at the coworking space, requested a print from my web browser, and in the printer selection dialog, observed the list of printers expanding... some sort of autodetection of network printers was occuring, and multiple instances of the same printer were being offered, with slightly different names. Printing to these devices did not work.
Now, after a reboot, there are NO network printers available no matter what network I'm connected to. When I use the Kubuntu printer configuration tool and try to set up a new printer, it asks me to "Select a connection" to which the only option it gives me is "Other". When I put in an address for the printer it just cycles endlessly, never finding anything.
I have a shared printer on my Ubuntu 10.04 machine, and it cannot be seen by other computers (macbook, pc) on the network. I have the printer shared, but it is not a member of the 'Shared Printers' group. When I add it to the 'Shared Printers' group, it stays there until I close the 'Printing' application GUI. Then, when I re-open 'Printing,' it is no longer in that group. I think this is why I can't see it on the network, due to the wording of the option in Server Settings to 'Publish shared printers connected to this system.'

I find references to the printer all over the place, but when I try to print something nothing happens. I tried the print routine in 'gimp', 'gedit', 'thunderbird, and 'firefox'.The printer as a stand alone will copy and scan. About a year and a half ago it was connected to a Windows machine and worked.The Samsung you see works just fine.
I am trying to install a Kodak Printer to my Ubuntu10. Only to be informed that the CD autorun is not supported in files, I have the printer installed on the windows OS, without any problems, I have explored the CD and even tried setup but with no joy.Has any member encountered similar probs with installing software.
View 4 Replies View Relatedubuntu and fairly inexperienced in getting things to work. I recently bought a Kodak s100 webcam. I can get a few frames on cheese, skype, or guvcview. After that, the video feed goes to black screen. I have tried a few things I found in the forum, but have not been able to find a fix yet. Does anyone have any idea why this isn't working? Also, the webcam has a built-in microphone which I'm having trouble getting programs to recognize, such as skype.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI an an HP Pavillion laptop with SuSE 11.4. I had 11.3 working but I had to upgrade (install, not update due to other issues).
Now, when I go to YAST2 ->Hardware->printer->Print via network->Connection Wizard-> TCP Port and set the IP address and hit TEST CONNECTION I get an "OK". I select "Kodak" as the printer manufacturer and get these as my driver choices.
It uses port 9100 which looks open. I pick one driver and YAST creates the config. I then hit "Print test page" and nothing happens. This happens with either driver and a couple I downloaded from who knows where.
The printer is a Kodak ESP 5210 that runs with Windows 7 and Vista on the same network. Any ideas? Any tools I can use to sniff it out? I dropped the firewall to no avail, moved to the internal zone, no joy. It worked under 11.3 but I did not record the configuration steps or setup.
I posted a request on Kodak's FaceBook(FB) page asking about their support for Linux drivers URL... Search for Mark Schuster to see my request and click the LIKE button to voice your request for Linux support. Let's let them know we want Linux drivers for their printers.

I use Ubuntu 9.10 to download pics from the CF, but somehow it must have happened a mistake. The Card cant be used in my camera anymore. The camera only display 00F8 -P- and cant be used anymore. Plug in a USB camera
find /dev/camera-pseudonym
mount /dev/camera-pseudonym /camera
cp * ~/pictures
umount /dev/camera-pseudonym
and then work on adding this camera to /etc/fstab so that it will automatically mount to the usual place. I don't know how to find the pseudonym. I can, lsusb and see Bus 004 Device 009: ID 040a:05c1 Kodak Co. Digital Camera I can fdisk -l and not see any new partitions (which, with most USB devices with storage, I can usually see the partition listed in fdisk -l) After these two commands related to search FOR the pseudonym, I draw a blank and resort to manually searching /dev for things that may be useful.
This is difficult, though, because there are dozens of files named usb-something, and they're all very similar to one another, and not related to typical pseudonyms I'm used to (like /dev/usb[0-9], /dev/sd[a-z], etc) I would like to be able to find the /dev entry based on the ID 040a:05c1 because every USB devices I've tried has been listed by lsusb, and is accompanied by an ID number.How do I find the pseudonym in /dev for any usb device?
i'm using kubuntu and am stumped on getting it to recognise a kodak camera, which uses a program called easyshare, which i cant seem to install and linux drivers for it dont seem to be available, so what do i do now?

This device doesn't automount, doesn't show in KDE 4's device notifier, and I can't mount this camera manually because it doesn't appear to get assigned to a device node. Any known solutions? It worked in Slackware 12.2, but not in 13.0 or 13.1.

I had a local HP laser jet added and multiple network printers added. my computer installed updates then rebooted and all my printers were gone and it wont allow me to add them back. the new button is grayed out and the menu option to add a new printer is also grayed out.

Is there something that needs to be installed to have USB Printer support? USB is the standard connection type of most printers theses days and only high end printers have Ethernet and I don't think any modern printer still uses a parallel or serial port.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using the newest VB 3.18 Lucid AMD64 .deb downloaded from Sun. Previous versions have not had USB support in Lucid. Now, when I start the XP guest, all my USB devices seem to be detected. My USB phone is shown as 'busy' as is my mouse. However, both my printers remain greyed out and are shown as being 'unavailable'. I have tried manually adding the printer filters before starting the guest, but no dice. Is anyone else having this problem? Any ideas as to a possible cause?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed ubuntu 10.04 just after the first release was available.I configured everything - including my printers - and all was working 100% perfectly. Last friday (or perhaps thursday) I did the first update (it was big, ~60megs), and since then I have lost my printers. They are no longer listed on the "Printers" information panel.In fact, I can no longer add printers (the option is grayed out). In fact, the only option I can select is the connect to server. If I try local, I get the error that the server cannot be found.
EDIT: the original printers are networked printers, accessed via an IP address.
I upgraded the Ubuntu 10.04, and afterwards I can't print. Cups won't detect printers, hp-setup won't, hp-probe won't. Tried rebooting, reinstalling HPLIP, & CUPS. Installed latest version of HPLIP. did a purge of HPLIP and CUPS, and reinstalled, rebooted.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've had Kubuntu 9.10 32-bit running on my laptop since it came out, but in the past month all its networked printers have disappeared from the configuration, and I can't set up any more. I've been through the forums again and again and cannot fix it. I've installed and reinstalled lots of packages related to CUPS but it doesn't seem to make a difference.I'm not sure what has happened, but I have lots of clues. Since I'm reaching the limit of my know-how here, I'll just list all the clues.
I'm pretty sure the problem is in my Kubuntu laptop, because in my SOHO setup I also have a Kubuntu 9.10 desktop (this time 64 bit) connected to a printer, and I have successfully printed through that from both a Windows XP laptop and a Xubuntu 9.10 box.On the Xubuntu 9.10 box, I just asked for the GUI print configurator and it automatically detected the network printer. No muss no fuss.But on the Kubuntu laptop, when I go into the print configurator, here's what happens:
- it shows two options, "new printer" and "server settings" (image a.png)
- entering "server settings" everything is greyed out and unchangeable (image b.png)
- entering "new printer" shows only one option for a connection, "other" (image c.png)
- after entering the address of a printer i know works (image d.png) the configurator has detected the printer (image e.png)
- but then attempting to move forward it crashes with no explanation.
Running the non-kubuntu version of the configurator GUI provides a bit more information before it fails. When I try to access the desktop with the printer attached it wants a username and password. (which wasn't necessary for the two client machines who successfully printed.) And at the end of the process there is an error: "there was an error during the CUPS operation: client-error-forbidden".
Two more clues:
- when I try to go with my browser to localhost:631 the browser can't establish a connection
- but I can see the cups page on the printer's host machine at 192.168.0.104:631 no problem.
I recently had to reinstall Ubuntu (due to a crash after an update) and I'm having trouble to configure the print server. The last time all I had to do was to follow this:
- System;
- Printing;
- Server;

Then I would go to the Windows box and add the printer like this:
[URL]
And it would work perfectly. Now I've been tweaking everything I can imagine and no luck.
