My machine seems to be constantly downloading/uploading something. Not much - 1KiB/s - 50KiB/s, but it is bugging me.Is there a tool to see what process is using the network connection?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Ubuntu system is occasionally becoming very sluggish. I'm running many things simultaneously and it's very difficult to tell which program is the culprit.
I suspect that the sluggishness is due to disk activity since the CPU usage is consistently under 50% on each of the 4 cores of the CPU, and over 30% of the 6GB of RAM are free.
Is there a tool that can show me in real time the number of disk IO operations per second and the amount of data read/written per second? Can all this info be broken down and displayed per process?
Its a case of ".... wireless network connection active but still not internet connection .."I am using WEP - 128 key ... Works when I connect directly using ethernet cable ... but not wireless (pci and wireless router)

When installing build-essential and ubuntu-restricted-extras the internet connection was interrupted. How can I force re-installation in terminal? I'm looking all over for the commands but I can't find them. If i just type "sudo apt-get install build-essential ubuntu-restricted-extras" it returns the message that they are both up to date. I know one of them was interrupted and needs to be finished.

i am using mtr as a network diagnostic tool and i have a basic doubt that whether the intermediate switches or router ping the next switch/router on behalf of the original machine and report it back the route and corresponding response and packet loss to it or it itself identifies the route and pings the individual machines and get the response time and packet loss.

View 9 Replies View Related1 linksys router: gets the net from PPPOE and give the network DHCP. The router IP is 192.168.1.1. 1 windows laptop that work wireless and wired. 1 debian desktop that work wired and not working wireless. THe problem with the debian desktop is like this: I have a TP-Link TL-WN321G installed and found by lsusb command. I make a wireless connection WPA Personal (just like the router settings) it says i am connected to the wl network but no internet connection. the route command give me this:

I tryed with wicd who said that the connection is WEP (and it's not, it is setup to WPA on the router and the network-manager conncetion) and when i try to connect i get bad password. I tryed with network-manager uninstalled and no chance.
im on node1 when i type the command ssh node2@ip the terminal hangs up a bit then an error message stating that connection timeout but here is a thing: i cant ping to node2
but i can terminate the ping manually using ctrl+c when i terminate the ping usual message appears stating 10 packets transmitted, 100% loss
ps: when i go to node3 and ssh to node2 it works fine and also i can ping from node3 to node2 very fine. and the firewalls are down at all nodes -all wired connection over a switch
I have the following problem. I want to find out connection between process and socket. When I type to the terminal the following command netstat -anpetu so I get the following output:

As you can see just some connection have assign PID/Programme. How can I find out Program of this socket without PID/programme. like this 0.0.0.0:52472? Certainly I know that some port are well-known but there are a lot of unknown ports(like 8307 3350 and so on).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI can make a connection to the vpn server, the connection starts, but nothing happens! My IP address remains the same as previous! There is nothing added to my Knetworkmanager, I'm a beginner I should use a pcf file for my vpn connection. I use it properly, I'm sure because the connection starts and an icon is added to my panel and remains until I disconnect.

I am new to using OpenLDAP on OpenSUSE with the yast configure tool. I have used Openldap on Fedora before and there was a slapd.conf file that I could modify. It appears that the yast does something different. Anyway I need to find out what the rootdn password is, but I cannot find it since there is no slapd.conf file.

PLease note I'm looking for something of little lightweight here (Not something like zenoss) But I'd still like to get performance graphs and event notifying alerts. View 2 Replies View RelatedI am demo'ing Kubuntu 9.04 workstation to a customer. He has a CentOS 5.3 server (my doing). On it is our CUPS Network file server. Everyone (65 of them) print to our network printer through it using LPR/LPD (and sometimes Samba).
Problem: when Kubuntu's Print Configuration Tool went looking for printers, it found every network printer's IP address, but missed my CUPS printer server. What did I do wrong on one or both ends (I have control over both).
I have 2 computer: 1 computer install ubuntu v9.10, in this computer already installed openssh-server and openssh-client, and 1 computer install windows. In computer with windows , i used putty connect to computer with ubuntu, but i can't connect. I don't understand what's error.
In the Putty , i configured:
IP : IP address of computer Ubuntu.
Port 22
Connection Type SSH
This is error: "Network Error: Software caused connection abort"
In computer with windows, i can ping computer with ubuntu and in computer with ubuntu i can ping computer with windows.
I have a Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5721 network card on my server at work.Everything works fine for a few weeks, then randomly the network connection on the server will stop working. After it stops working, I will try to reconnect with the network manager, it shows a wired connection available, it shows the "connection in progress"animation, then the "connection disabled" icon.
I uninstalled the network manager and used manual configuration, but do you think the network manager was the issue? I can't have the server disconnecting randomly every few weeks with no way to know what the real problem is. Was there an issue with the network manager with 10.04?
There is a process called STD that uses 90 plus percent of the cpu. If its running when I plug into the network the network crashes. Also can't watch movies our do anything requiring the processor while its running.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've not found how to configure more than one ip address with network manager.Nor with kde nor with plasmoid network manager.I need several virtual ip addresses for eth0 when the "default" of eth0 is connected i.e. "Connected to Auto eth0" should initialize the virtual interfaces.I have not found no even how to configure the ip address.I think this will be used from ifup config in yast or not?There I have the virtual interfaces but they are not taken from network manager.And last but no least: Is it possible that when using network manager the eth0 is enabled even no user has logged in?
