Does anyone know of a tool to find the fastest mirrors for the repos? I know some distros have something called "fastest mirrors" or something equivalent. The fastest I can get updates is around 238 kB/s and normally, on other distros I get 10 times that speed.btw, like all the other distros, speedtest.net gives me an avg download speed of 43Mbs

I am new to using OpenLDAP on OpenSUSE with the yast configure tool. I have used Openldap on Fedora before and there was a slapd.conf file that I could modify. It appears that the yast does something different. Anyway I need to find out what the rootdn password is, but I cannot find it since there is no slapd.conf file.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've gotten this in the past with other PCs, but have been able to fix it by deleting my connection in Network Manager and recreating it. I'm using DHCP. This is OpenSUSE 11.3 on a HP Mini-110 Netbook.Here's the weird part, before anyone starts sending me to resolv.conf or asking for "lspci" stuff. When I'm in a terminal on this netbook, I can enter "host google.com" and it works. I can enter, "host download.opensuse.org" and it works fine. I get an IP address. If I manually enter the IP address in Firefox, I go to the site. But if I enter "www.google.com" in Firefox, it very quickly responds with, "Firefox can't find the server at google.com.""Browse Offline" isn't checked. (Think about it: if it was, I couldn't enter the IP address and go to a site, anyway.) This is a brand new install of OS 11.3, Firefox 3.6.6. But one other interesting thing: the software updater reported that common "curl" error, saying that IT couldn't resolve the addresses, either.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLast two days I am trying to find alternative to skype. So I decided to find solution for my family, friends to chat, call (audio, video) using opensource product on linux. I have tried the following: (using same clients and gtalk accounts on both test machines)
1. Kopete 1.0.80
Firstly, I like it because it is native in opensuse KDE system.
Secondly, it has optional jungle support for gtalk, which is ok for me.
The only problem, I cannot turn on jingle support, because there should be talk.google.com server , but the right server is gmail.com. Only with gmail.com server I can connect to my gtalk. I was managed to do it right, but my friends do not have jingle settings (libjingle installed). What should we do? Will we be able to talk when we activate it?
2. Pidgin 2.7.10 (libpurple 2.7.10)
Video calling, audio calling doesn't work at all. We using same version of pidgin on two computers, there is mention that it is calling but no progress after, nothing. Even camera turns on (no image though) but after doesn't turn off (camera light).
3. PSI 0.14 patched
Psimedia installed, doesn't call at all. Says that the client reject me or busy.
4. Empathy 2.32.2
No options for video and audio hardware, nothing to change at all). Call from menu doesn't work, nothing happens after I press "call". Call from chat window impossible because buttons are grey, are not active. Now error "could not sync the state of the new nicesrc with its parent"

Even after writing down stun server stun.ekiga.net call buttons for video and audio call were inactive, unable to make call.

Using pctel.ru. Works ok, sometimes problems with intiating video, but still something. I am not very happy because it is not XMPP.
7. Twinkle works like a charm. The only one client using which I haven't had any problems at all. The only thing to tailor is audio codec (also encryption if you like).
I hope to make a call one day and to be sure that I haven't used any closed program for it!

How can I find out WHICH foobar resp. WHICH path belongs to the currently active foobar tool?
I prefer a cmdline command with option similar to:

Output: Used location=/usr/bin/foobar
I don't want to dig around with PATH investigations by searching every PATH component. Furthermore I don't want to get recommendations and expectations like "normally tools are installed in...". Think of unusual installed software.
I am trying to connect to a Windows 7 PC through Samba, and while samba can find the Windows 7 PC, it cannot access it, asking for a username and password instead. However, I can access the another Windows XP share perfectly fine.

We want to set up a LDAP Server using the Yast-LDAP Server configuriation tool.
This indeed already worked weeks ago until....this week.

I do not know what happend exactly. The server just does not want to start again and throws following error:
Starting ldap-serverstartproc: exit status of parent of /usr/lib/openldap/slapd: 1 failed
This happend after a little check of the configuration, but without a change, with Yast. Google delivered only "reinstall your box"-answers.
So.. i did that. And now the "mystical" part: The SAME ERROR occurs with a fresh vanilla system with a brand new and simple configuration (certificats, database, pw...the first Yast config dialog...). I did not change the way i set it up.
I remember, when i did this the first time with 11.2 on that machine, when no problems occured...everything was running out of the box (except the "use commen server certificate" option...).
I have created some new themes on my old squeeze machine using the gnome-appearance-properties tool. That program created a folder with the correct name in ~/.themes/. And it contains a single file (580 bytes) with the properties - theme (application/x-theme) which is unreadable. I need the gtkrc file for this theme but cannot find it anywhere! I searched /usr and /home and the entire file system. Where it might be hiding?
