Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To Finish Installation Of 10.10?
Feb 28, 2011
I am not able to finish the last step in the installation of Ubuntu 10.10. It asks me to fill in "Who are you?" information, but the forward button is not activated and I am not able to click it. I have tried to burn a new image cd and try again but I get the same error. My computer is an Acer Aspire 5220. I attach a picture of the screen.
while upgrading to Lucid, I got the following error:
dpkg: Fehler beim Bearbeiten von /var/cache/apt/archives/dbus_1.2.16-2ubuntu4_i386.deb (--unpack):
unable to open '/lib/dbus-1.0/dbus-daemon-launch-helper.dpkg-new': No such file or directory I tried to just add the dpkg-new extension to the existing /lib/dbus-1.0/dbus-daemon-launch-helper - to no avail. How can I finish installing dbus?
I just installed Ubuntu 9.04 again on my PC after a long time. Everything was working fine. No problems at all. After running all the necessary updates, I wanted to install Adobe Flash. This I did by going to Adobe's site. I selected the APT version for 9.04+. It was installing fine UNTIL there was a power cut. Since then I have been trying out various methods of repair suggested in these forums. But again and again get the same message:Quote:

I am unable to change the installation location for the boot loader when installing Fedora 12 in the graphical installation mode. The 'Change device' button does nothing when I click on it during installation. I'd like to install the boot loader on my /boot partition. Is there some kind of bug that is preventing me from doing this?I am trying to install from the Fedora 12 386 DVD.
I cannot install Kubuntu (or Unbuntu) 10.4 on my husband's computer. I have spent 5 hours on this and cannot get anywhere. I am deeply frustrated. The iso I burned to CD is good (works on 2 other computers). His computer will not boot from USB, no matter what I do to the drive order in BIOS. After loading the blue screen with the Kubuntu logo on it (and the blue-white dots), the screen changes to black and shows the following text:
BusyBox v1.13.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.13.3-1ubuntu11) built-in shell (ash) (initrafs) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system.
He really needs to get rid of WinXP. Kubuntu is what I have on my computer (and love it!). Here is some info about his computer:
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600 OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
try to download mysql-serverPHP Code:apt-get install mysql-server but it seem to stop downloading this package at 5%Tried converting rpm to deb with alens still no luck..PHP Code:

I can't install filezilla. I've searched and written the line (sorry can't emember what it was exactly) in terminal, but it didn't find filezilla. I then found another thread and tried writing as shown by aysiu in the screen grab. But, it got to 99% and then after ages said it couldn't finish (see screenshot).
I put together this 500+ page .pdf how-to, if your looking to setup a server, and manage it with Webmin. built on Debian, but should work here to for the most part[URL]..
When installing build-essential and ubuntu-restricted-extras the internet connection was interrupted. How can I force re-installation in terminal? I'm looking all over for the commands but I can't find them. If i just type "sudo apt-get install build-essential ubuntu-restricted-extras" it returns the message that they are both up to date. I know one of them was interrupted and needs to be finished.
I'm trying to find out which hard drive my vista installation is labeled in ubuntu so I can finish editing the grub menu.1st file.
All it says on the sourceforge page is
Quote:
Root - You likely have something along these lines "(hd0,1)". "hd0" refers to the your hard drive while 1 points to the partition. Note that for GRUB, partitions start at 0 and not 1. for example 0=Partition 1, 1=Partition 2 and so on.
It doesn't say how I can find out which one my vista is. So I need to know what my hard drive is in linux. Is it hd0,1 or hd0 or what?
After some hours of googling, I've managed to increase the size of the default ramdisks (/dev/ram0-16) to 1 GiB each, I raided them together with mdadm to try it out, then created a filesyste, mounted it etc etc. No problems. The problem comes when I used gparted to move my windows partition over and in the unallocated space (1 GiB), I created an unformatted partition (/dev/sda2)Now when I try to create the raid array I get the following:
Code: :~$ sudo mdadm --create /dev/md0 -l 1 -n 2 /dev/ram0 /dev/sda2 mdadm: Cannot open /dev/sda2: Device or resource busy
I'm a novice using Ubuntu 10.1 on an Asus EeePC. For several days, my computer has refused to connect to the office wifi, though it's had no trouble doing this in the past. It recognizes the signal, and the wifi icon keeps indicating that it's in the process of connecting, but the process never completes. Every few minutes I'll be asked to re-enter the password. Eventually it gives up.
I'm not sure if this problem extends to other wifi networks or just the one at my office.
I have never in a year had a problem with this d-boot system. Two days ago I tried to boot into ubuntu like every day. It started to load normal, went to the ubuntu logo and paused for about 15 seconds and posted this under the logo:
One or more of the mounts listed in /etc/fstab cannot yet be mounted /: waiting for /dev/loop0 /tmp: waiting for (null) /boot: waiting for /host/ubuntu/disks/boot Press ESC to enter a recovery shell
I have looked everywhere and tried so many things, I can't look any further. All I have been doing for two days is trying to boot this system.
One of the hard drives in my server failed the other day, backups saved the day and downtime was only a few hours, but when setting up the new drive I went ahead and migrated to software RAID, in the hopes it may give me less downtime in the future when a drive fails. It all went rather well, but my main root partition won't finish syncing for some reason.
sda was the original drive with sda4 as /, sda1 as /boot, and sda2 as swap. sdb was the drive that failed and was replaced with the new drive. So I set up sdb with the same partitions of sda, added it to a RAID1 array, copied files from sda, and reboot to md4 as /, md1 as /boot, and md2 as swap. I added the sda partitions to the array, and the sync went off without a hitch on md1 and md2, md4 progresses well, but after a few hours /proc/mdstat just shows this:
I just got a HP G56 108SA and i was planning to install Ubunti 10.10 on it but ive yet to be able to even get the system to boot. I downloaded the ISO of ubuntu 10.10 64bit, burnt it with nero and ran the disk it starts to load and you see the ubuntu text with the scrolling blocks under it and after a few mins i notice the DVD drive is no longer flashing but the screen still shows ubuntu with the scrolling loading graphic. Left it for 20 mins and still doing the same thing, anyone know how to get around this?

I have an older dell CSX laptop that I would like to load up with ubuntu or kubuntu... or anything other than XP. The problem is that the laptop does not have the option to boot from USB, I don't have a CD/Floppy drive to attach to the media bay and I don't have a pcmia that will PXE boot... So, do I have any other options? I really don't want to go purchase anything for this laptop because it's old, but if I could get it reloaded with anything it would be ok for a netbook... It will boot into XP, but its very sluggish.

Been trying to fix this problem myself the last day or so.After trying to create a back up on thursday which failed due to lack of space [followed thishttp://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=35087]I also think that i had run the update manager and installed updatess i know that i removed some of the default games as well.Booting up my laptop on friday morning i recived this error message"Install errorThe configuration defaults for GNOME power manager have not been installed correctly.please contact your computer administator"The login screen is now in a low graphics mode and when i try to login the screen goes black with some text in the left hand corner which is impossible to read as it only flashes up for a second and i am returned to the login screen.
