One of the hard drives in my server failed the other day, backups saved the day and downtime was only a few hours, but when setting up the new drive I went ahead and migrated to software RAID, in the hopes it may give me less downtime in the future when a drive fails. It all went rather well, but my main root partition won't finish syncing for some reason.
sda was the original drive with sda4 as /, sda1 as /boot, and sda2 as swap. sdb was the drive that failed and was replaced with the new drive. So I set up sdb with the same partitions of sda, added it to a RAID1 array, copied files from sda, and reboot to md4 as /, md1 as /boot, and md2 as swap. I added the sda partitions to the array, and the sync went off without a hitch on md1 and md2, md4 progresses well, but after a few hours /proc/mdstat just shows this:
I am having some problems with rsync,I put the rsync command in a shell script, and I am calling the shell from a 3rd server, but it stops midway through.s anyone else experienced these problems?
Yesterday after trying to remove KDE and noticing that it started removing a bunch of Gnome packages as well, I've managed to fix most of the damage. I still have one thing left. To install a .rpm package I have to do it via command line as root. If I try just double clicking it now it doesn't prompt me for the root password, then it just says, "Failed to authenticate" and doesn't finish. Also I used to be able to scale the frequency of my CPUs with the applets on the Gnome panel. When I would select a different frequency it would prompt me for the root password, then change accordingly. Now when I click it nothing happens. Can somebody tell me if there's a gconf setting or a package that was removed that could cause this?
Every time i try to get anything from the software centre i get this message: The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources.
It was working fine, but i updated ubuntu, using the update manager and since then the software centre has stopped working.
I changed to ubuntu 10.10 I have setup my gmail account on the Evolution client, and has downloaded like a third of my inbox emails in the first syncro. Ever since it hasn't downloaded any newer email after that even when several have passed.
Is there any configuration I should use to tell the inbox to go over a fixed capacity or something like this?
I just installed ubuntu 9.10 32bit on my compaq 6000.I have a nVidia Corporation NV17 [GeForce4 MX 420] graphic card, and I wanted to install the proper drivers.I tried to use Hardware Drivers, but when it tries to activate the "NVIDIA accelerated graphic ... ... (version 96)", it starts a download and then it simply stops doing anything.I also tried to use EnvyNg, which also started downloading and stopped.I also tried to install manually the "NVIDIA-linux-x86-96.43.01-pky1.run" (which was what Envy recommended) but1) I'm a Noob and most forums said "don't mess with your graphic card if you'e not confindent enough"2) when I dosudo /etc/init.d/gdm stopsudo sh NVIDIA-linux-x86-96.43.01-pky1.runit says that I don't have a precompiled kernel interface, and something about kernel sources not matching current kernel (but "gcc -dumpversion" shows the same as "cat /proc/version").
I'm currently running 10.04. Great OS! However, the one small thing that annoys me is with the software centre, it doesn't tell you the size of the download. I know this probably doesn't bother people if you've got 50mb internet and unlimited downloads, however, I have 3.5mb, and a download limit!
Is there A) anyway I can get software centre to tell me the size of a download, and B) is this altered in later versions - due to my limit I don't want to download them to see - catch 22!
i'm finding it absolutely impossible to get flash working on ubuntu. I'm using firefox and have tried installing adobe flash player through their website (nothing happens, download doesn't start) and through the terminal (error messages), I've also tried installing other flash players from the ubuntu software centre and, while they install fine, they don't seem to actually work. I'm using ubuntu with windows (windows on C drive, ubuntu on D drive)
I'm currently on LinuxMint. I'd like to start PHP scripting, but the browser doesn't want to open the file, only to download. I've red the description on Ubuntu's site how to bring apache2 and PHP together, but it simply cannot find php module. How on earth can I force Linux to act as a normal OS?
I can't install filezilla. I've searched and written the line (sorry can't emember what it was exactly) in terminal, but it didn't find filezilla. I then found another thread and tried writing as shown by aysiu in the screen grab. But, it got to 99% and then after ages said it couldn't finish (see screenshot).
I put together this 500+ page .pdf how-to, if your looking to setup a server, and manage it with Webmin. built on Debian, but should work here to for the most part[URL]..
Swiftfox does not have default file handling, and thus I cannot open files from the download menu. When I go to choose the program I want to open the file with, it just takes me to my Home folder in Nautilus. I have no idea where to find the programs I need (Image Viewer, Open Office, and Movie Player are the main ones I need).
When installing build-essential and ubuntu-restricted-extras the internet connection was interrupted. How can I force re-installation in terminal? I'm looking all over for the commands but I can't find them. If i just type "sudo apt-get install build-essential ubuntu-restricted-extras" it returns the message that they are both up to date. I know one of them was interrupted and needs to be finished.
I'm trying to find out which hard drive my vista installation is labeled in ubuntu so I can finish editing the grub menu.1st file.
All it says on the sourceforge page is
Quote:
Root - You likely have something along these lines "(hd0,1)". "hd0" refers to the your hard drive while 1 points to the partition. Note that for GRUB, partitions start at 0 and not 1. for example 0=Partition 1, 1=Partition 2 and so on.
It doesn't say how I can find out which one my vista is. So I need to know what my hard drive is in linux. Is it hd0,1 or hd0 or what?
After some hours of googling, I've managed to increase the size of the default ramdisks (/dev/ram0-16) to 1 GiB each, I raided them together with mdadm to try it out, then created a filesyste, mounted it etc etc. No problems. The problem comes when I used gparted to move my windows partition over and in the unallocated space (1 GiB), I created an unformatted partition (/dev/sda2)Now when I try to create the raid array I get the following:
Code: :~$ sudo mdadm --create /dev/md0 -l 1 -n 2 /dev/ram0 /dev/sda2 mdadm: Cannot open /dev/sda2: Device or resource busy
I'm a novice using Ubuntu 10.1 on an Asus EeePC. For several days, my computer has refused to connect to the office wifi, though it's had no trouble doing this in the past. It recognizes the signal, and the wifi icon keeps indicating that it's in the process of connecting, but the process never completes. Every few minutes I'll be asked to re-enter the password. Eventually it gives up.
I'm not sure if this problem extends to other wifi networks or just the one at my office.
I have never in a year had a problem with this d-boot system. Two days ago I tried to boot into ubuntu like every day. It started to load normal, went to the ubuntu logo and paused for about 15 seconds and posted this under the logo:
One or more of the mounts listed in /etc/fstab cannot yet be mounted /: waiting for /dev/loop0 /tmp: waiting for (null) /boot: waiting for /host/ubuntu/disks/boot Press ESC to enter a recovery shell
I have looked everywhere and tried so many things, I can't look any further. All I have been doing for two days is trying to boot this system.
i just installed fedora 13(fresh install) everything worked fine so i wanted to install the nvidia drivers (using akmod) everything went fine so i rebooted it. It started fine showing everything as[ OK ]But after showingEnabling monthly Smolt checkin: [ OK ]Starting atd: [ OK ]It stops rigth there...I dont know why, i just can reboot and cant go any furtherThe next one must be service local, but cant get it started
while upgrading to Lucid, I got the following error:
dpkg: Fehler beim Bearbeiten von /var/cache/apt/archives/dbus_1.2.16-2ubuntu4_i386.deb (--unpack):
unable to open '/lib/dbus-1.0/dbus-daemon-launch-helper.dpkg-new': No such file or directory I tried to just add the dpkg-new extension to the existing /lib/dbus-1.0/dbus-daemon-launch-helper - to no avail. How can I finish installing dbus?
I know the thing is there and Linux is able to identify it. However, using the drivers included with the device (rtl8192su_linux_2.6.0002.0707.2009) and later other drivers (rtl8712_8188_8191_8192SU_usb_linux_v2.6.6.0.20101111) and the firmware realtek package as well, Modprobe shows nothing. Also *tried* to follow instructions to the best of my ability from these sources:

I am still running lenny 2.6 on a dell latitude d505 (circa 2006) running the x86 32-bit debian distro. The USB device is produced by Sabrent and contains the realtek 8191s IEEE 802.11N chipset. After all effort so far, my guess is that the 8192 drivers are not compatible with the 8191 chipset, but then why were they included with the device and why do the 8191 drivers still reference 8192?
rubyripper starts ripping but then it seems it stops during the analyzation. No action noticable and it does not finish. The last message in the log is: analyzing the files for not matching chunks.I left it for hours and nothing happens. It happens with all formats and with all CD's I have.No error messages or other. With opensuse 11.2. there was no problem at all.
rubyripper version 0.6.0 Kernel: Linux 2.6.34-12-desktop x86_64 Distribution: openSUSE 11.3 (x86_64) KDE: 4.4.4 (KDE 4.4.4) "release 7"
Does anybody have an idea or need any logfiles?A similar problem I have in k3b when ripping audio cd's. It hangs up during analyzation.
My skill in fedora linux is all acquired by reading online and trial and error. I manage to set up my squid 3.0 proxy server in fedora 11. It is working smoothly as I wanted it to be. I have one client who is running bittorrent that drags all the bandwidth of our network. The problem is I cant make my server work tranparently. I want to make transparent proxy so that it can support my wireless router and I want to control the bandwidth to a fair level for everyone without them knowing.
Please somebody help me configure iptables in step by step, specifically in fedora 11. And all other necessary configuration needed to run my transparent squid 3.0 proxy in fedora 11.I know there's a lot of Linux Genius here that can help. Please help me I needed it badly.
