View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to set up Ubuntu on an Acer Aspire One but want to go with the Ubuntu Netbook Remix version. At times though I may want to use the standard Gnome interface.
Is it possible for me to use both? I don't mean with dual booting but since UNR is like another desktop is it possible to switch between UNR and Gnome on Ubuntu?
Having just upgraded to 10.10, I've discovered Unity, and I'm afraid its not for me. I absolutely loved the previous interface, and was quite shocked and saddened to see it disappear. But I'd like to keep all the other new software that comes with 10.10. So my question is, can I install the old 10.04 beautiful interface to run on the 10.10 edition? Re-installation is a MS solution, that turned me on to linux in the first place!
View 9 Replies View RelatedI want to use 2 network cards on a notebook (one internal and one by USB). I don't want the typical "internet sharing", so I want it to act really as a switch:
Other room <== 1Gb/s ==> Notebook <== 100Mb/s ==> network switch with more computers.
I want to do it because i want to use the 1Gb/s link from the other room to the "servers" room, and then the rest of servers will run at 100Mb/s. I wanna all my computers in the same network, like there's no notebook in the middle, so the Notebook will act as a switch (and a server). i wanna (assumming all of this is possible): Code: > [network switch] 1Gb/s
> 192.168.2.1 [router] 100Mb/s
> 192.168.2.2 [wi-fi AP] 100Mb/s
> other room 192.168.2.50 [new notebook] 1Gb/s
[code]....

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu Netbook 10.04 and immediately noticed the keyboard of my eeepc 1000HE was abnormally warm. Since I dual boot XP I booted to XP and found the fan running faster to compensate for the previous heat. This did not happen on Ubuntu-the fan just was barely running. I had to place the side of the netbook in order to feel the fan running. I issued "sensors" in terminal and it showed 67 degrees C for the cpu temp. Is the latest Ubuntu such a resource hug that it heats up the CPU?

View 5 Replies View Relatedwhat the actual differences are between the different versions? Is it simply in the interface or does netbook have different services running by default, different hardware detection or anything else that makes the system run any differently? I know netbook doesn't have compiz installed by default but is the rest of the package set the same? I ask because I have been having various problems with boot and audio along with a few other niggles. I was running the desktop edition through the betas and the RC with no problems at all but I installed lucid final from a netbook edition iso and have done two more fresh installs from netbook iso and seem to be having a lot more issues.

View 2 Replies View RelatedBasically in the files and folders section on the netbook edition desktop i would like to add another folder (my dropbox folder)
I think i read somewhere that you had to bookmark it or something but i dont know how to do that.
I suppose its the same as adding a folder to the files and folder menu on any normal distribution of ubuntu.
I love the theme that the Netbook remix 10.04 LTS has, but I jumped the gun installed desktop onto my laptop (not a atom based laptop). It works no problem. Is there anyway I can get Netbook remix theme loaded into 10.04 LTS desktop that is default with netbook 10.04 LTS? Searched the gnome sites for theme, background, art, etc, nothing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just bought an Asus EeePC 1201PN and am planning on installing Ubuntu on it. I prefer the traditional desktop interface and thus would like to install it. I have read accounts of people having no problems with it on the 1201N and am assuming it will be the same for my netbook. My question is is there really any difference if I install the Netbook Remix Edition then get the Desktop-Switcher and change it to the traditional interface? I heard that the NRE doesn't use Nautilus. If I install NRE then use the Desktop-Switcher will I be able to use Nautilus or will it still be the NRE with everything else to "optimize" the netbook's performance?
Would it be possible to install the Desktop Edition then get repositories for things that will help my netbook perform better?
Dell Latitude XT
N-Trig touch screen
ATI x1250 Video Card
Ubuntu 10.10
If I install the Netbook packages (either with the Netbook CD or by installing them into a Desktop installation), I just get garbage on the screen that is unusable.
A picture says it all:
Any ideas to get the Netbook edition working?
