When in kubuntu netbook edition 10.04 I select an activity as Desktop, the plasma button dissapears, also I can't add items or lock the desktop widgets. I can drop folders and create icons. Can make them smaller but when I do it I can't make them bigger again!

I just downloaded Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.04 and am running it from a usb flash drive on my Acer laptop.
At times I'd like to use the Gnome desktop. I know with the previous version there was a way to change to Gnome. Is there still a way to change to Gnome on the 10.04 version and if so how do I change to Gnome and back to Netbook Edition desktop?

I have already installed Ubuntu from an USB drive, however everytime I have to install it on a desktop/laptop or netbook, I have to "burn" the USB again, so I wonder if there is any way to have both (Ubuntu desktop and Netbook Edition) on the same USB drive and choose wich one you want to install at the boot moment.
I usually have the ISO images and copy the files to the USB with the "Startup Disk Creator" utility built in Ubuntu or eventually with Universal USB Installer or UNetbootin...

On the Ubuntu website, under the alternate downloads, there is a link for 11.04 netbook torrent download but clicking on the link gives an "unobtainable" message. On the "error" page, Chromium provided a link to the ubuntu page with all the 11.04 versions and checking through those there is not a netbook version.
Does this mean that there will be no netbook version of 11.04 and the desktop version will be OK on a netbook or is it simply that it is not available yet? I am intending to upgrade my current Acer Aspire One to 11.04 and am considering a clean install rather than upgrading via the update manager. I have downloaded the desktop version just in case.

I have an Asus 1018p with Ubuntu netbook version installed, and I wanted to upgrade the ram. With Windows 7 Starter, the maximum ram supported for this machine is 2 gb, and I was wondering whether the amount of ram supported by Ubuntu would be the same, or if it would be different. Also, if it's different, how would I go about finding out how much ram i could put in?

I own an eee pc 900a and would like to install [url] to it.
The eee pc hasn't got an CDROM drive so I have to convert the iso file to an img file to get it on an usb stick for installation.
This page describes how to do that with [url] with Windows, Mac or Ubuntu using usb-creato. But I have non of these available.
How can I convert the iso to an USB image with the help of debian ?

I have followed the directions to install the Netbook Edition onto my Acer Aspire One via usb drive. When I created the USB using the Universal USB Installer app, I created a 1GB persistence on my 4GB USB. I now want to install rather than run from the thumb drive, except when I get to partition area, it's showing no drives at all. I had XP, but I'd like to use the entire disk for UNE now. how to get it to install?

Since next launch will have Unity desktop, I decided to install the netbook and available unity edition for 10.10, but my experience has been less than pleasant. :-/ I'll post a few comments about my worries, perhaps you know how to solve them already. The left bar is nice: but so far I've been unable to customize it! Not intelhidding, nor control over the size. The pick into the dock problem has already solve for unity but not for Netbook. Personally, I rather prefer a docky panel instead of an un-customizable bar.
Mension by a lot of people, the <Alt>-F1 and <Alt>-F2 binding are not working. I've never used <Alt>-F1 but <Alt>-F2 is quite useful for the intermediate or advance user. The Super-key: In netbook desktop somehow I loved that the super-key allows us to select a launcher from the bar. However this functionality is not in Unity. Worse, each time I press super-key, it sends me to the menu... How could I use the compiz functions so? like Super-a My compiz-configuration from Gnome is used by Unity... so when I press the show desktops I can see only one. How do I get 4 of them? I really, really love the fact that in the upper bar are shown the menu of the current selected window, specially because one can un-maximize the window and the menu remains in the panel. Perhaps the upper border of the graphical windows could be made thiner.. since there is no menu there any more!
I think this is mostly it! Anyway... I'll keep in touch Although all my possible negative comment, I think you have done a remarkable work with this environment... but we all know that mind breaking changes should support crisis! Don't they?!

I have, in vain, tried to run or install Ubuntu Netbook Edition on an Asus Eeepc 1001PX.I have downloaded ubuntu-10.10-netbook-i386.iso and checked its md5sum, set up the installation media to both an USB-stick and a SD memory card using Universal-USB-Installer-1.8.3.3.exe and the Ubuntu Startup Disk Creator. The Asus already has an Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop which was easily installed using the same procedure.

I have a Windows XP/Windows 7 dual boot system. My problem: [URL]. I follow these instructions to the letter, the live "CD" works fine - using a USB stick, I do not have a DVD drive, in- or external -. When I try to install Ubuntu from the live system, it corrupts my master boot record, I get the Error: No Such Device #####################. After I fixed this I tried to install Ubuntu under windows, using the same usb's wubi installer. The install completes, I reboot, and after selecting Ubuntu in my boot menu, I get that likewise well known error with wubildr.mbr [URL]
Rebuilding the USB stick doesn't make any difference, it behaves the same way. The wubi installer has the very annoying habit of downloading the iso during the installation procedure every time, I don't know why I can't just select the iso downloaded in the first step of the above link. This way I cannot check any md5 because I have no idea where it downloads the iso. What should I do to get Ubuntu working? Reinstalling any of my Windows systems is not an option, it is every time like gambling, I am using the same installation files, but sometimes the result is just not the same.

I have problems installing Ubuntu Netbook Edition (ubuntu-10.10-netbook-i386.iso)on Asus eeepc 1001PX. code...
I have tried both Universal-USB-Installer-1.8.3.3.exe and the Ubuntu start up disk creator to prepare my USB-stick.
I have earlier installed the Ubuntu desktop 10.10 on the same machine with the same method without problems.

I am having trouble installing Ubuntu 10.10 netbook remix edition onto a Acer Aspire one netbook. I am attempting to install the OS from a 16GB PNY usb drive w/ the usb-universal installer and ubuntu 10.10 netbook remix .ISO
The reoccurring problem that I am encountering is that when I boot from the USB-drive and begin to install everything seems to be working, and then it is stuck at the menu where it asks who are you?; and of course i have filled in everything asked and at the bottom where you can look at what its doing in the terminal/detail section all it says is ready when you are, and the forward tap is unselectable.

I installed ubuntu 10.10 and everything works perfectly, but whenever I go to shutdown/restart, after showing the ubuntu logo (just like when you log in), the logo goes away, and it just hangs/freezes there.
I've tried waiting even for 10 minutes, but nothing. It there anything I can manually edit for it to just shutdown? If it helps here is my PC...

I know it is possible to install a Ubuntu Server Edition and later on 'upgrade' it to a desktop edition by doing
Code: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop But, as I understood it, this installs apps like OpenOffice and such too... Now, is it possible to install the ubuntu-desktop-GUI (so, actually GNOME) without installing all of the unwanted apps Apps I actually need are pulseaudio, transmission and samba, which I prefer to install separately.

Is there a torrent for the netbook edition of ubuntu.
I'm running it in VirtualBox because I only want it to faff around with, I tried the full desktop version but it was a bit slow so I thought I'd give the netbook version a go. (I'm on a laptop)
I'm asking this because the download is very slow.
I'm on a 20mb connection and it starts off around 400k but then goes down to 30 so it will take hours.
