Ubuntu :: Adding Folders On Netbook Desktop?

Jun 4, 2010

Basically in the files and folders section on the netbook edition desktop i would like to add another folder (my dropbox folder)

I think i read somewhere that you had to bookmark it or something but i dont know how to do that.

I suppose its the same as adding a folder to the files and folder menu on any normal distribution of ubuntu.

Ubuntu :: Cannot Hibernate After Adding More RAM To Netbook?

Jun 19, 2011

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) and I recently upgraded the amount of memory in my Acer Aspire One A110 netbook from the default of 512M to 1.5G. I don't use this netbook very often and only today after I was done with it did I try to put it into hibernation rather than shutting it down and discovered that the option was no longer there.

I googled for a bit and then realised that I didn't have a swap partition. I don't know if I ever had one or whether I was using a swap file, but I followed this guide to create a swap partition, which I can now see. I also followed the bit of the guide that talks about making the swap partition work for hibernate, but although I can now see "hibernate" in my power menu, if I select it, the disk thrashes for a bit but nothing happens.I've tried running

Code:
sudo /etc/acpi/hibernate.sh
from the command line in case it gave me any error message, but it doesn't, and neither

[code]....

General :: Adding Shared Folders With Virtual Box?

Jun 1, 2011

I thought I should ask this as another question since the last screen is filling up.

I was able to install Linux Mint ver.10/Julia with Virtual Box. My problem now, is that I am still trying to run the tbaMUD program that is on my host OS - Windows 7. I accessed the help files included with the virtual box help menu and was able to add the guest additions that allow me to link a folder from my host OS to my guest OS. I can see it under DevicesShare Folders but I am unable to access the files and folders under this mounted folder. I am able to edit the folder, which lets me mount or add a new folder, or I can delete it.

Debian Multimedia :: Adding Folders On NTFS Drives To Music Library?

Dec 22, 2010

I have my music library stored on an NTFS hard drive, from when I used to run Windows. The drive mounts successfully in Linux and I can manually play tracks from it, but I don't seem to be able to point Rhythmbox or Banshee to the drive or to folders on the driveto add them to their libraries. Is there any way to do this? Otherwise I'll have to begin the very long process of juggling files between hard drives until I have enough free space to format one of them

Ubuntu :: Hide Folders Or Files Without Adding Period "." To Rename File Or Folder

Jun 18, 2011

I am trying to hide some folders in Ubuntu Linux which are always hidden in Windows through File/Folder Attributes (attrib -h)

It is not an option for me to rename the folder from let's say "Ancient texts directory" to ".Ancient Texts Directory" because the programs associated with these files and shortcuts will not work in Windows. I would like to make the folder hidden by not renaming the folder. Is that so hard to ask?

Is there really no other way of making a folder or a file hidden in Linux just like in Windows by Applying Attributes? I Don't want to rename it by putting a dot in front of it. Moreover renaming a file by putting a dot in front of the name changes the position the folder appears in the list view. For some people this may be ridiculous, but for me with a few hundred files and folders and subfolders, this organisation is important, aside from the aforementioned reasons.

I need to maintain compatibility between the two operating systems' basic folder structure as i must use both Operating systems.

Ubuntu :: Differences Between Netbook And Desktop

Feb 13, 2010

what the actual differences are between the different versions? Is it simply in the interface or does netbook have different services running by default, different hardware detection or anything else that makes the system run any differently? I know netbook doesn't have compiz installed by default but is the rest of the package set the same? I ask because I have been having various problems with boot and audio along with a few other niggles. I was running the desktop edition through the betas and the RC with no problems at all but I installed lucid final from a netbook edition iso and have done two more fresh installs from netbook iso and seem to be having a lot more issues.

Ubuntu :: EeePC Netbook Remix Or Desktop?

Sep 14, 2010

I just bought an Asus EeePC 1201PN and am planning on installing Ubuntu on it. I prefer the traditional desktop interface and thus would like to install it. I have read accounts of people having no problems with it on the 1201N and am assuming it will be the same for my netbook. My question is is there really any difference if I install the Netbook Remix Edition then get the Desktop-Switcher and change it to the traditional interface? I heard that the NRE doesn't use Nautilus. If I install NRE then use the Desktop-Switcher will I be able to use Nautilus or will it still be the NRE with everything else to "optimize" the netbook's performance?

Would it be possible to install the Desktop Edition then get repositories for things that will help my netbook perform better?

Ubuntu :: Upgrade Netbook Version To Desktop?

I am making the switch to Linux and I really love Ubuntu. My DVD player isn't working, so I'm using my flash drive. It was too small for the desktop installer, so I used the netbook. I'm installing it as I type this (having the browser thats available for browsing while installing is awesome!)

Is there a way to upgrade to move to the desktop version after I finish? Also, what's the difference between the two. Links are fine. I tried google, but my google-fu must not be too strong today.

Ubuntu Networking :: Using Synergy Between My Desktop And My Netbook

May 23, 2011

I'm having some serious issues using Synergy between my desktop and my netbook. Both are running Ubuntu 11.04.

I installed quicksynergy from the software center and everything started ok. I wanted my desktop to be the server, I opened quick synergy and put in the IP address of my netbook, which I got from connection infromation>IP address, then hit execute and close. Next on the netbook, I opened quick synergy put in my desktop's IP address (acquired from the same location) in the "Server hostname/IP address:" box and my netbook's name in the "Screen name:" box. I hit execute and close.

Now when I move my cursor from the right side of my desktop's screen where it should move over to the netbook, the cursor jumps to the middle of the screen on the desktop and does nothing to the netbook.

Ubuntu :: Home Folders Appear On My Desktop?

May 12, 2011

The problem i have is that the folders i create in my home folder (/home/USRNAME/) now appear on my desktop (but not inside the desktop folder... since it no longer exists, u'll see). After a clean install of 11.04, there were a few default folders in my home folder (documents, music, videos, etc) however, i decided to rename them. After doing that, all of them (even the ones i didnt rename, like ubuntu one and templates appeared on my desktop (but not the desktop folder). I thought they were links, so i deleted the ones i saw on my desktop, and to my suprise, all the folders in my home folder have disappeared! Now everytime i create a new folder in my home folder it appears on my desktop, on top of my wallpaper, and if i delete either of them, both go away.

Ubuntu :: Can't Convert Standard 9.10 Desktop Into Netbook Remix?

Feb 17, 2010

I have been trying to convert my standard 9.10 desktop installation into the Netbook Remix version.I assumed that all I had to do was add Netbook Remix Launcher from synaptic and set it run at startupAccording to the Wiki these are the packages that constitute the UNR:Desktop Switcher - Allows the user to switch between two desktop modes. Currently supports switching between Ubuntu Netbook Remix mode and "Classic Ubuntu" (two panels, gnome-like) mode.

Go Home Applet - A gnome-panel applet that, when clicked upon, displays the desktop. Used in a netbook-based desktop, the desktop-window will normally be the launcher. Go Home Applet also works in conjunction with the netbook-remix-launcher whereby dragging and dropping a file/url/application to the go-home-applet will automatically add it to the launcher's favorites section. Human Netbook Theme - A gtk theme for use with Ubuntu Netbook Remix Maximus - A desktop daemon which will automatically maximise and, optionally, un-decorate windows. Has support for exclusion lists and will work with any EWMH-spec compliant window-manager.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix Launcher - An easy-to-useprogram/places/favourites launcher which resides on the desktop, replacing the main-menu. indow Picker Applet - A gnome-panel applet that displays open windows as icons on the panel, and has integrated window title-bar functionality. Optimised for use on netbook-size screensNone of them seem like dependencies for the Ubuntu Netbook Remix Launcher itself, so I cant understand why it isnt working. Ive turned of compiz and disabled AWN.
