How do you put desktop icons on ubuntu 10.4 netbook?
i downloaded gimp 2.6 from the ubuntu app store thing and then the icons didnt come up
please can some one tell me how to do this?

how to change the icons for users in UNE (from the grey mannequin-esque icon)....this is possible, right?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Netbook Launcher on Ubuntu, it works almost perfect, but when the number of icons on some menu option is large enough (like on System) the scrollbar is not long enough and the last icons get cut off, so I can't completely see "Time and Date" for example... Is this a known bug?
is there a way to add Internet Bookmarks to the Launcher?
EVERY SINGLE TIME when I try to close the Nautilus File Browser (ie when I go to my Documents folder), the desktop flashes all the icons on the desktop a couple of times (for a sec you would see no icons on the desktop) before everything goes back to normal.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed virtual box on debian and after it had finished my terminal informed me that I could remove some "unnecessary" software by use of sudo apt-get autoremove. When I did this, some of the icons on the desktop changed and all of the icons in the drop down menu on the bar at the top of the screen also changed to ordinary folder symbols. The theme that I was using also went away. I restarted the computer and it booted back into a shell prompt with no GUI. I tried to get back to the GUI using alt+f7 but it didn't seem to exist

Have had it on the laptop for a couple days and everything worked greatattempted to see what if Compiz would work and could not get it going. The computer froze upd to hard restart. When I did that and came back I found I have no desktop icons; if I log out and relog back in but switch to classic ubuntu the desktop is fine (of course not the Unity screen). I removed Compiz and attempted to remove and reinstall Unity based on a Google search but nothing changed.Two questions:1. what is the best next move to see if I can get the Unity icons and correct interface back on the desktop.

I know netbook doesn't have compiz installed by default but is the rest of the package set the same? I ask because I have been having various problems with boot and audio along with a few other niggles. I was running the desktop edition through the betas and the RC with no problems at all but I installed lucid final from a netbook edition iso and have done two more fresh installs from netbook iso and seem to be having a lot more issues.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been looking at Ubuntu for a couple years and finally decided to give it a try on an old Dell laptop 1150.Managed to get it loaded on and it all came up, did the updates.But the desktop will not respond. When the mouse arrow passes over on the left side icons it will sometimes change the color of them but still won't do anything.I did a quick search but did not see anything relatedam an absolute rookie with this Linux thing. It is running Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) with Gnome and the default "Human" theme.As the machine was delivered, there was only one icon on the desktop. This afternoon I closed a window (after successfully installing Dropbox) to reveal the desktop, and discovered that this icon had increased in size enormously, taking up about half the height of the screen (which is 640x480). I have no idea why this has happened.I also find now that new icons I put on the desktop appear at this huge size. I can resize them individually, of course, but even at the smallest they will go to they are still too big, and in any case I want icons to default to the original, sensible (small!) size.

I installed some security updates on my computer yesterday , and when it said to restart now or later. I choose to do this later. I was watching a movie and then half way through the computer shut down and then when it restarted the desktop, toolbar at the bottom and icons where all huge, and when you open applications and internet screens etc they are all way to big to fit within the screen
