I'm having a confusing time with this webcam. When I plug it in, dmesg shows it is recognised and needs the module gspca_spca561
Code:
[ 6644.595789] usb 1-6: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 4
[ 6644.707379] usb 1-6: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[ 6644.752736] Linux video capture interface: v2.00
[code]....
However, there is no result in skype, ekiga, or awetv, although the device /dev/video0 is created. there was a kernel update from Ubuntu 2.6.24-23-generic to 2.6.24-24-generic, and the webcam magically started working, using a different module, gspca. However, after some celebration, I found that my usb tv dongle, which uses the dvb_usb_af9015 module, ceased working.
I corrected this by recompiling the dvb_usb_af9015 module, using source from http://linuxtv.org/hg/~anttip/af9015/ ----after another celebration, I found that the webcam had stopped working again, and I have not been able to make it work since, despite recompiling the gspca module from http://mxhaard.free.fr/download.html. Attempting to insert the gspca module produced from this gives:
Code:
insmod: error inserting 'gspca.ko': -1 Unknown symbol in module Another thing I've noted, is that the gspca module will work when I boot into earlier kernels (eg 2.6.24-21-generic).

I have an ancient Logitech Express webcam (046d:0850) that worked immediately when I installed 10.04 Lucid Lynx, except for a frame rate issue. GUVCVideo has the frame rate at between 1-3 fps. I'd like to see it at between 25-30. The video options within guvcvideo DO NOT allow me to adjust the frame rate, resolution, or auto-exposure. Cheese works, skype works, and camorama doesn't. All functioning programs have the fps issue.
In searching around, all I've found is some wild goose chases promising pots of gold that some leprechaun must have stuffed up his keister because they don't work for me.

I just did a clean install to wheezy on my desktop (figured it was safe enough) and I found out my preferred keyboard, the Logitech 'Wave' K350, does not work on the wheezy installer. I tested to see if the mouse would work (M510) and it didn't work either. It works (or at least it did a few months ago) fine on the Squeeze installer. why my K350 didn't work on the install. It's just your typical wireless keyboard & mouse combo. The K350 works fine after the install.

I am currently running all my applications off a HD as I was unable to install the grub bootloader on my ocz pci express card (grub won't install on the pci express card as it is a raid0 array). I would like to use the HD for backup only and run everything off the ocz card - with the exception of booting (which is unfortunate but I didn't manage to make the pci express card boot). How is it possible to tell suse during the installation to create the /boot on the HD and the rest on the pci express card and also to allocate the remainder of the HD as empty storage area??

Does anyone know of a variant on the Logitech SetPoint software (it allows more functions for Logitech keyboards and mice) for Ubuntu? Would the Windows version work in Wine? I didn't think it would because the app uses Bluetooth, and I don't know if Wine can do that.

We have a PC in the office to which I have been granted to install Ubunto 9.04 on it. It has an intel graphic card Q45/Q43 Express Chipset.
I will proceed with the installation in a 1-3 weeks but I am expecting to have problems related to the graphic card not being seen or not configured ok.
Can you tell me how to configure it and what would its xorg.conf look like ?
Until I do the installation, I can use the Live-CD to test out your suggestions or do queries.

I have an HP Pavillion Elite HPE computer I just got for a server. It has an internal gigabyte on the mother board and I put in one pci express trendnet teg-ectx eternet card in before installing. It is using the realtek 8169 chip. I had the local network on this card and the pubic static ip on the built in ethernet port eth0. After the intstall of debian 5.07 32 bit I couldn't get the eth0 pubic access to work. I can't get into the server with sftp or ssh and openssh has been installed and I can get into it locally on the local network.
I then installed a second ethernet card the same as the local network card. Now the pubic is on the which is eth1 and the local is eth2. I can ping out to [URL] but I can't get into the server on the eth1 using ssh and I have a iptables firewall and I turned it off and I stll can't get in. I am thinking that the eth1 card I added after the install doesn't have the driver or something. nothing is hooked up to eth0 right now.

installing drivers for my onboard NIC card on my ASUS Nettop EB1007. The NIC is a JMC250 PCI Express GB. I first installed CentOS 5 on it and then it wouldnt show up. So I decided to try installing with Ubuntu and it was perfect. I didnt have to do anything else to get it detected. However, I would like CentOS 5 on this unit to practice on. Below is my attempt to install the kmod-jme-1.0.6.1-2.el5.elrepo.i686.rpm on a fresh CentOS install. Unfortunately, the dependencies are failing.

I have a Logitech trackball which I configured to emulate a scroll wheel in the xorg.conf file in 11.1. It is ignored in 11.2. I tried configuring with SAX2, but there are no mouse settings available. Even so, I used SAX2 to set the display and made sure the xorg.conf file had my mouse settings. Still no luck. I checked the Xorg.log file which at the top said the xorg.conf file that I edited was being used. The mouse section showed a different configuration being loaded:

It has been a long time i dreamed to get ubuntu and now i have my ubuntu 10.04 installed. I found similar posts in the forum but no one helped me out. i have a webcam Logitech quick cam pro 9000 and i tried to use it with skype 2.1 beta 2 i installed this morning. Well i can see the video but the microphone (build in the webcam ) does not work at all and it worked fine with windows. This is the lsusb command in the terminal :
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 046d:0990 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Pro 9000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
So i think the webcam is connected well.

I am trying to install logitech libwebcam but I can't get the source of uvcvideo driver. I have that driver installed and running properly and it appears when I do the lsmod, but I can't find the uvcvideo.h header file even after installing the kernel-headers and kernel-devel. Does it exist in a specific library that I should install ?

I had a hell of a time getting 10.04 to work, because I only have a Logitech Dinovo Edge keyboard, and it stopped working after I upgraded. After grub, I'd get to the login screen, and the keyboard wouldn't do anything.
First, I dug up a mouse that did work. Then I logged in by clicking the Human Accessibility icon on the login screen. Somewhere in there, I was able to bring up an on screen keyboard. With the on screen keyboard, I could now login. Under system>preferences>bluetooth, I was able to, after some fiddling and plugging and unplugging, get the keyboard paired to the bluetooth dongle. Anyway, it seems pretty obvious now that my original bluetooth pairing was lost with the 10.04 upgrade, and I just needed to re-pair. I don't remember having such problems on previous upgrades, though.

I have been a keen user of Ubuntu since version 7.something. In that time I have updated, upgraded, or done clean installs of each new versions usually about 2 months after the release to enable small bugs to iron out. There have always been minor issues usually easily rectified via this forum. However the 11.04 release is the worst I have ever come across almost forcing me back to winblows. So what is my gripe. -- 7 hours downloading and upgrading -- to obtain a system that does nothing -- nada. zip. it booted came to the desktop and nothing, Unity doesn't respond, no applications open, and the shutdown didn't work.
So -- downloaded the ISO this morning did a clean install and eagerly went into my new system. First issue -- my logitech cordless keyboard is not working, never had an issue before. so plug in a USB one, which is what I am using now. Go to the 'system settings' (took me a while to find where they had gone) but couldn't find anything in the keyboard section to allow me to configure a cordless keyboard. Failure 1
Open banshee and ask it to load the music library. It does, then click for a file to play and --- no sound! so choose another track just in case and banshee crashes, and the icon disappears from the unity bar. Failure 2 As usual I have an Nvidea graphics card so one of the first things is to install the proprietary driver. Never had an issue before. this time it loaded (apparently) and then I do the restart to enable it, and when I get back in there is no top bar, the Unity bar sits there and won't slide in and out, and no applications will respond. BIG failure 3
Re boot into recovery mode and opt for safe graphics mode. System re boots - Top bar now appears, Unity remains inoperative, and when I click the shutdown icon to get to system settings --- crash and burn system shuts down.-- BIG failure 4 Re boot into recovery mode (again) run "fix broken packages" DPKG runs for a while replacing and upgrading hundreds of packages. When finished reboot -- same issue desktop stuffed! Currently working off the live CD. To the developers -- maybe you are pushing ahead too quickly now. this sort of overall failure will lose more users than gain. I don't usually complain but as my title says for me Natty is an unmitigated disaster.

I am trying to get a Logitech Webcam (not Quickcam) Pro 9000 to work with my SUSE 11.2 installation (specifically trying to get it to work with Skype 2.1). I am using the KDE environment. I've been reading the many posts and seem to be getting the point that I need to install the UVC driver from the webcam driver repo. However, the link I found to the repo seems to be for SUSE 11.1...?
Anyway, here is what I have done so far:I ran the following commands and got the following output:
localhost:~ # lsusb

Bus 001 Device 004: ID 046d:0809 Logitech, Inc.

Any Paltalk Express users out there?
This morning I tried to login to Paltalk Express (http://express.paltalk.com), but when I was about to write my password suddenly the screen turned black, and couldn't do anything else. I tried erasing the private data on my browser, restarting the browser, reloading, but didn't work.
I tried removing and installing flash, but still the same.

Recently I installed ubuntu in my LG P1 express dual laptop, and got it working with the sound, webcam, and LAN. It took me a while, but I have learned a lot. The thing is, I cannot manage to set up wireless networking working. For what I read and discovered, it has to do with an internal RF switch that deactivates the wifi card. On windows, one may switch it on or off with fn+F6. However, that is not working on linux. How to access and change this switch with a command or something?
Nothing on BIOS about wireless. When I do
Code:
sudo cat /var/log/messages | grep -i wireless
I get:
Code:
Feb 17 20:08:34 XXXXX kernel: [27.889915] iwl3945: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
Feb 17 20:08:34 XXXXX kernel: [29.163795] Kill switch must be turned off for wireless networking to work.
On doing: iwconfig, it reads:
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
So no wlan0 is listed.
However with "sudo lshw -C network" the network is there and the driver is loaded
