I've been trying to get a copy of VM Ware Server installed on my Ubuntu machine. I tried the Version 2 with the patch available but seeing as I couldn't access the management console due to Firefox I had to abandon that idea. out with installing Version 1.10?

This is the first time I participate with you. So, I have a problem in configuration CentOS 5.5 on VM ware Machine 6.5, once I downloaded the ''CentOS-5.5-i386-bin-DVD.iso'' which is about 3.4 GB, it did not work on the VM ware and I get s black board, which means it doesn't work properly. Should I take a disk image by using an empty disk? if so, how can I take this image. I'm so sorry guys, because I do not have a sufficient experience in networking which makes me in a real predicament. by the way, I'm gonna use the ''RedHat Linux Enterprise 5'' in my work.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to SCP a couple files from my Ubuntu 10.10 machine to a Fedora 12 machine. Before today, did it with out any problems, always worked. Today however; after the SCP is complete from my machine, the file on the other machine is zero bytes, an empty file. The only thing I can remember getting changed was the new kernel that was in the update I did today. But I don't think that would have changed the SCP works.

The problem is , when I added a network adapter (so, total 2 adapters now), the second one was not being shown in ifconfig. On trying ifconfig eth1, I found that the 2nd adapter didn't have an ip address. So, I installed ubuntu desktop edition on another VM, and this time it showed both the network adapters on doing ifconfig, and both had ip addresses. Why doesn't this work with ubuntu server?

I was using a Sony laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 installed on the machine. I have just bought a Mac and I will be using Ubuntu 10.04 as my primary development OS by virtualizing it using VirtualBox.Now, my requirement is, I had a near perfect development environment setup on my Ubuntu box and I don't want to install the packages, apps, setting etc again on my VirtualBox VM.
I know there are ways to export apps, setting etc, but is there some app which will actually create a VDI disk for my VirtualBox which, when I plug in to my VirtualBox, I will get the old Ubuntu on my VM.
I just installed VMware server 2.02 on a CentOS 5.4 machine. I tried to run 'vmware': it starts via my web browser (firefox) with xdg-open. Then, firefox displays this:

I've just installed 11.04 on a new machine, to be dual booted with Windows 7. The installation process completed, popped the disc back out, but when booting up I get no boot menu and just load Windows 7. I don't get any error messages or any sort of feedback. If i go into BIOS, I only have Windows 7 as a bootable option. I presumed grub or an equivalent would be installed as part of the installation.

I have a Lenovo T500 laptop with 4 GB RAM. I have installed Windows 7 64bits OEM on my laptop HD. I also installed Fedora 14 on my USB External Hard Drive which it has it own boot sector. I don't want to have a dual boot. So if I plug in my external HD to my laptop and turns the machine on, it automatically my Fedora comes up, other wise my windows 7. (I set up start-up boot drive , first to USB External HD and then internal HD)

After setting everything and start installing windows form CD, I got BLUE SCREEN right after "WINDOWS FILES LOADING..." finished. it shows me a blue screen and then it will stop

I've installed CentOS 5.3 on a machine, and I need a Samba version 3.2 or higher. Since 3.4 is out, I thought I'd grab that. But, "yum list|grep samba" gives me only version 3.0.33. Is there a package of Samba I can grab that will upgrade the 3.0 installation so that I don't have two laying around? If not and I need to compile from source, do you have any suggestions for what arguments I should give configure? I'm not used to Linux coming from the BSD world

I can even see my music on the iphone inside Banshee. It lets me copy music from my machine to the iphone but never shows up on the ipod on the iphone. I can browse the folders and find the music but its saved as libgpodxxxxx.mp3. The xs are numbers. They are all in folders on the iphone called itunes_controlmusicfxx where x again are numbers. They play fine from the iphone if you highlight them in the file manager or in banshee.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI added another disk to an old Dell Dim2400 that had one HD. It was a blank disk, and instead fo re-loading and re-configuring SuSE, F10, and PCLOS, I did a cp command from another multi-boot computer, like so:

sda is an 80G Seagate, with SuSE, F10, and PCLOS.
sdd is an 80G Western Digital.
The copy went perfect. It begins to load SuSE in the old Dell, showing new peripheral hardware, but it stops when it realizes it's on a WD and not on a Seagate. The line is something like, 'Looking for dev/by-uid=xxx-123-Seagate-yyy'. It asks if I want to go to the next device to boot up. I enter 'NO', because it will go to Windows.
It then exits to 'bin/sh' prompt (or something close (shell?)).
Can I boot LiveCD and modify this so it completes the load?
