None of the pre-built vmmon modules for VMware Server is suitable for your running kernel. Do you want this program to try to build the vmmon module for your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)? [no] y Using compiler "/usr/bin/gcc". Use environment variable CC to override.
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include] /usr/include The header files in /usr/include are generally for C libraries, not for the running kernel. If you do not have kernel header files in your /usr/src directory, you probably do not have the kernel-source package installed. Are you sure that /usr/include contains the header files associated with your running kernel? [no] y
The directory of kernel headers (version @@VMWARE@@ UTS_RELEASE) does not match your running kernel (version 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.x86_64). Even if the module were to compile successfully, it would not load into the running kernel. What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running But I have all the necessary files installed!!
I am new to linux . i am trying to install SUSE linux 10 SLES. all the steps are clearly installed but. the final step- Hardware configuration step failed.in this final stage system takes more time and restarts.
I installed a ubuntu server edition on a VMware workstation. The problem is , when I added a network adapter (so, total 2 adapters now), the second one was not being shown in ifconfig. On trying ifconfig eth1, I found that the 2nd adapter didn't have an ip address. So, I installed ubuntu desktop edition on another VM, and this time it showed both the network adapters on doing ifconfig, and both had ip addresses. Why doesn't this work with ubuntu server?
Im trying to install ubuntu server 9.10 64 bit on VM Ware ESXi unfortunately im not getting very far - as i get the following message :- This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but has detected an i686 CPU. I am trying to figure out if there is an edition of VM-WARE that will work on Fedora 12? I just installed Fedora on my laptop and would like to have VM-WARE player so I can have Windows running also. I have done the reverse - running VM-WARE on Windows and Fedora as a VM, now I want to have Fedora be the host and Windows as a guest.
This is the first time I participate with you. So, I have a problem in configuration CentOS 5.5 on VM ware Machine 6.5, once I downloaded the ''CentOS-5.5-i386-bin-DVD.iso'' which is about 3.4 GB, it did not work on the VM ware and I get s black board, which means it doesn't work properly. Should I take a disk image by using an empty disk? if so, how can I take this image. I'm so sorry guys, because I do not have a sufficient experience in networking which makes me in a real predicament. by the way, I'm gonna use the ''RedHat Linux Enterprise 5'' in my work.
I've been trying to get a copy of VM Ware Server installed on my Ubuntu machine. I tried the Version 2 with the patch available but seeing as I couldn't access the management console due to Firefox I had to abandon that idea. out with installing Version 1.10?

I have installed VMWare Player on my windows XP and installed Ubuntu. On Ubuntu virtual machine I see Network Drives folder but I do not see any netwrok drives I have on my windows. Any suggestions for what should I do to be able to access Network drives in Ubuntu as well.
I've a rented dedicated server with (presumably) no window manager installed. How would I go on about installing Xfce? (the ultimate goal is being able to VNC into it)I checked but that seems to assume you already have a window manager, so I was a bit wary of just trying it.
We have a network of 20 boxes and the router dealt with DHCP, but I'm planning to assign the DHCP task to the linux box. Any heads up? eth card configuration, network topology... etc.?

If there any dependent patches/packages that I need to install first before proceeding with the actual DS installation.
I'm thinking about installing a DNS server on Fedora 13 running bind. I looked around for available bind packages and found only these:
Now the first one contains bind utils the second one is for running DNS in a chroot env and the last one is a bind with some DB backend.
Does this mean that fedora 13 doesn't support/.provide "standard" bind server (I mean the one to run without chroot/without db backend) ? Or am I missing anything in my repolist which is :

The server hangs or reboots when I install Fedora 13 x86 (32-bit) from DVD onto a quad core server (64GB of mem, 16 cores). Sometimes it gets as far as starting anaconda before the hang or reboot. I've been trying different combinations of kernel options, such as vesa, pci=msi, irqfixup, max_add=3072M, noapic, nolapic, noirqbalance, maxcpu=2... But whatever I do, it hangs or it reboots. The 64 bit versions of RHEL5.5 and RHEL 6 Beta2 installs without problems.
Background: I need some help regarding install X server/apps on a headless(ie. no monitor, no graphic device) server. The server is in fact a virtual one by Amazon EC2. So there's no monitor nor any graphics hardware. Fedora server (6, i believe) is pre-packaged. The problem is that I want to be running a server app with a GUI. The app won't start without the GUI (and I probably need to tweak a few things through its GUI too).
I plan on setting up very very bare minimal X on the server and then uses NX for remote access. Can somebody shed some light here?
Simply put, my questions are:
1) What would be the minimal list of package i need to install? 2) Where can I find docs about installing and setting up NX? I could only find very fragmented/outdated docs about it.
I am trying to install a ubuntu server to serve sites. More than one, so Ill use Apache VirtualHost. When installing ubuntu server ask me about installing DNS Server? do i need it?
Perty self explanitory, I'm trying to boot up ubunto server edition 10.10 from a USB stick (pen drive) and it works fine until step 3 when it says "Your installation CD-ROM couldn't be mounted. This probably means that the CD-ROM was not put in the drive. If so you can insert it and try again
Try again to mount the CD-ROM? <Yes> <No>"
I don't have an installation cd-rom! I put the .iso file onto a memory stick, inserted it into my old computer (which i will turn into a server later) , restarted it and got past the first two slides and got this error? Do I have to put the iso on a cd-rom?
