Ubuntu :: Vm Ware Network Adapter Not Recognized On Server VM

Feb 17, 2010

I installed a ubuntu server edition on a VMware workstation. The problem is , when I added a network adapter (so, total 2 adapters now), the second one was not being shown in ifconfig. On trying ifconfig eth1, I found that the 2nd adapter didn't have an ip address. So, I installed ubuntu desktop edition on another VM, and this time it showed both the network adapters on doing ifconfig, and both had ip addresses. Why doesn't this work with ubuntu server?

OpenSUSE Network :: WiFi Adapter Does Not Seem To Be Recognized

Aug 11, 2011

I Have an HP Pavilion G6. I recently installed openSUSE after having no luck with another linux distribution. I was told openSUSE is more compatible with laptops, so I figured I'd give it a try. I am now facing the same problem I had been facing w/ the other distribution (Ubuntu). My Network Adapter doesn't seem to be recognized by any linux operating systems. It is a Ralink 802.11b/g/n WiFi adapter. When I open the "network" tab, my home wifi is not listed, nor are any around me. In fact, I can't even open the "wireless" tab.

I've installed any recent drivers for my adapter, and I went to extensive lengths to try to solve the issue on my previous linux distribution. I don't know what output to give you from the terminal, nor do I really know any commands to look for anything. On a side note, I had been messing with my touchpad application, trying to set my preferences. I check the boxes for horiz. and vertic. scrolling with two fingers, and apply. They don't work. I check the boxes for using two finger tap to do something, and three finger tap to do something else.

General :: Switching Between Windows Would Cause A Network Adapter To Stop Being Recognized?

Feb 15, 2011

I am using Linux and Windows 7 on the same machine and my on-board NIC is functional under both. However, the weirdest thing happens when I browse the internet under Linux and then return to Windows; my NIC stops being recognized! This happens under Windows but also in Linux when I return! This problem is then easily fixed by resetting the CMOS, but inevitably occurs again. Why does this happen? Update The CMOS reset works but is not necessary for me. Shutting down and unplugging the power cord works as well.

General :: Wireless Network Adapter Recognized Or Driver Installed?

Jan 17, 2011

I am brand new to Linux and Ubuntu. However it was very easy and smooth to install and get updated using my wired ethernet connection. I am now trying to understand how to have my wireless network adapter recognized or driver installed. I will be searching around the forums but it suggested I make an initial post as a new user. I am using an older Dell Inspiron 2200. I believe the chipset in my wireless adapter is indeed Broadcomm, so hopefully that will help direct any responses.

Server :: Printer Isn't Recognized By CUPS Over Network

Jun 17, 2009

I've been at this mess pardon my french for a few hours and i'm still going nowhere, original thread posted over at archlinux forums:Since my printer isn't visible on my server (works just fine on my client) I tried to manually add various URI (tried em all) and I went from "printer location not found, waiting for jobs, to printer isnt running".

In my opinion it should be working but it's not, i've read the linux printer database/various linux forums/#cups on freenode (idled for 2 days no response)/gentoo wiki/forums and the old tool "google" but most of the "hacks" I tried didn't work. There's a lot of google links with issues similars to my own and alas they are all unresolved, is this a typical problem with unix/CUPS over servers/network?Why is it so difficult for CUPS to detect my printer over my server?

Fedora :: Installing VM Ware Server 64-bit On 14

None of the pre-built vmmon modules for VMware Server is suitable for your running kernel. Do you want this program to try to build the vmmon module for your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)? [no] y Using compiler "/usr/bin/gcc". Use environment variable CC to override.

What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include] /usr/include The header files in /usr/include are generally for C libraries, not for the running kernel. If you do not have kernel header files in your /usr/src directory, you probably do not have the kernel-source package installed. Are you sure that /usr/include contains the header files associated with your running kernel? [no] y

The directory of kernel headers (version @@VMWARE@@ UTS_RELEASE) does not match your running kernel (version 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.x86_64). Even if the module were to compile successfully, it would not load into the running kernel. What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running But I have all the necessary files installed!!

Server :: Ubuntu Based Network Drive Drops Out After 2 Mins With USB Adapter Not For LAN

Mar 10, 2010

I have an Ubuntu-based fileserver, which I have set up and works fine for 5 computers (Windows & Linux based). I have one computer, on Windows, which when I map as a network drive it works and I can transfer small files using the USB adapter. However, when copying over a large file, after 2 mins or so it comes up with the error "Specified network name cannot be found". However when plugged in using Ethernet, it will work fine.

What is even stranger is when I set it up as an FTP server rather than SAMBA, it will happily transfer a 4gb file on the USB adapter, which possibly knocks out driver issues (I have tried 2 different drivers, am currently using Linksys one from website - WUSB300N) AND perhaps the issue lies on the Linux server side with setting up the SAMBA server? However I do have another one of these adapters that works fine, but it is on WIN XP HOME with a custom network logon script (as HOME won't remember passwords after restart). BUT it does work on another computer with XP PRO as network place, so I tried network place on this one, and it still doesn't work.......

Ubuntu Networking :: Sitecom WL-364 WUSB Not Recognized As Wireless Adapter?

Jul 16, 2011

I bought myself a Sitecom Wireless Network USB Micro Adapter 300N X3 (Sitecom WL-364) today. When I place the adapter in my PC, it is not recognised as a wireless adapter.

There are similar posts like this one, most of them are about conflicting drivers. According to this post I shouldn't be worried about that (as I'm working in 11.04 32-bit).

The output of lsusb is this:

Code:
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0df6:0051 Sitecom Europe B.V.

Also, I was having a hard time getting to know the chipset of the adapter. Is RT2870 the right driver for the adapter?

Hardware :: SDL Joystick Event From N64 Controller Adapter Not Recognized

May 1, 2011

I'm using a "HuiJia USB Gamepad" to connect a standard N64 controller to my computer over USB. I'm doing this so that I can play games using mupen64plus, which uses the SDL to get input. My problem has to do with the way the adapter deals with C button events. Apparently, the u/d and l/r C buttons are treated by the adapter as joystick axes, so joystick events are generated by using them. But, for some reason, these events aren't recognized by SDL.

It gets stranger - if I cat the output of /dev/input/event5, the event gets printed when a C button is pressed. Furthermore, when I configure SDL to use the /dev/input/event* devices rather than /dev/input/js0, the C buttons are recognized! (Though, this leads to a situation where the joystick can't be calibrated... go figure). So, I can either have a correctly calibrated joystick with no C buttons or a miscalibrated joystick with working C buttons. Does anyone have any idea what I can do about this situation? The best outcome would be to force the C button joystick events to appear when using /dev/input/js0. Device as it appears in the output of lsusb:

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Belkin USB Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Not Recognized?

Aug 12, 2010

I have spent them with Fedora and liked it a lot. Today I decided to install CentOS as this looks like something I would like to be using in the future. However a problem I could not solve came right at me after the first boot.

I have one eth0 device which is onboard lan and that was correctly recognised and activated. The second device is F5D5055 Belking USB Gigabit ethernet adapter. There was no problem with it whatsoever under Fedora. According to all the info it should be automatically recognised on kernel 2.6.14 and later. However when I plug it into the USB port, I can see its correct name in the device manager but it is not recognised as a network device. I have configured my Fedora as a firewall/router for my lan and definitely want to use that interface.

Hopefully without needing to do anything in the realm of compiling kernel, cause that is where my half a day long attempt to fix the problem left me.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Home Network Is Not Recognized By Network Card (RealTek RTL8190 Mini PCI)

Jul 12, 2010

my wireless home network is not recognized by my network card (RealTek RTL8190 mini PCI). The post was as follows: "I am using a new computer with Windows 7 , Athlon quad core 2.60 64 bit, 8GB RAM. Internet conection works fine with ethernet but ubuntu does not see my wireless network. card (RealTek RTL 8190 ID: 10ec:8190). Have searched this forum but unable to come up with a fix. I was looking for windows XP drivers to use Ndiswrapper but could not find a list of .inf files. My network is OK and works perfectly in windows and with my 2 laptops. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Additional info: install was done within Windows using WUBI to a separate partition on my HDD. I am new to this and thouroughly confused as to the procedure for installing the drivers if they are in fact available."

I am very frustrated in that I would like to use Ubuntu 10.04 but it is useless without internet connectability. I am new to linux and do not understand where to get the appropriate drivers or how to install them. I wish someone would answer this post and either give me a clue what to do or just say "give up" and uninstall ubunutu.

OpenSUSE Network :: No Network Devices Recognized On New Install

Feb 24, 2011

Just installed 11.3 kde. When running the live cd both wireless and ethernet devices appeared in the network connections manager utility. I even connected to a wireless AP.I just booted up for the first time and none of these devices are available. There is no network manager icon in the system tray, and when the network manager utility is maually opened the only connection type i can select is vpn.I know that opensuse should be able to recognize these devices since they were available and working via the live cd, so can anyone help me restore them?

One extra piece of info, is that I am sharing a home directory with a gnome ubuntu install. there were a few minor issues i dealt with initially, but i didnt need to change this user's UID like I have had to do in the past so that's good. Each time i open a terminal I get two pieces of output assuming from the bash startup saying something like.URL...I highly doubt that these problems are related, but figured I'd post. Also if someone knows the solution to that as well, that would save me a bit of googling.

OpenSUSE Network :: Host Not Recognized On Network

Mar 16, 2011

I have just loaded Suse 11.4 and have had (2) problems, 1st: When I installed some additional programs, such as, Scribus, the system showed them as installed but they did not show up in the "applications" menu any where. I finally tracked them down and edited them in and they work fine - Why aren't they being automatically placed into the menu system? 2nd: I have a home network setup and all systems can see and work with each other, however, the host system is not shown as if it did not exist at all. for example; if I go to "network services" and select "Samba Shares" if other computers are connected it will show them but not the host - if no other computers are connected it shows nothing. On my 11.3 system it shows the host eg; "Linux-12fx blah blah" this is of course my host machine. I have replicated all of my settings on the 11.3 settings on my 11.4 system - no luck!

Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter?

Basically a few weeks ago I decided to try Linux, in particular Ubuntu. I have it installed in my Windows 7 partition but now I am willing to take the full plunge and switch to it all the way. The only issue is I cannot connect to wireless internet. It states "device not ready". Wireless is turned on on my laptop, I am very near the source, have tried making a manual connection with the network setup. I tried the hardware tester and it found my ethernet and wireless hardware (Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter).
I went to the package thing and looked for Broadcam. I found a package but it was already installed. I tried it manually with:

sudo apt-get install bcmwl-modaliases
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

I then heard to try "sudo apt-get install bcm43xx-fwcutter" and did but it couldnt find it.As stated before I am new to linux so I'm probably missing something easy I just beg your patiance as I learn this new operating system.

Ubuntu Networking :: Setting Up USB Network Adapter?

Apr 20, 2010

I'm trying Ubuntu for the first time; it's actually the first time I've messed with Linux at all-- and, well, it's kind of intimidating. One of my hobbies is playing with dead computers, and long story short, I have Ubuntu installed to a partition on an external drive connected to an older Dell desktop with no internal storage to call its own. The only network adapter I have to spare right now is the rather wimpy USB one that came with said desktop. I have the CD with the drivers to it, but I think the Linux drivers on it are for a different distribution. Am I going to need to scrounge up another network card or adapter, or am I going to have to start sheepishly asking ridiculous questions regarding basic operation of the command console?
