Ubuntu Installation :: Boot From CD Cannot Mount /dev/loop0

I just dl'ed and burnt a 10.04 ubuntu disk (using infra recorder), and popped it in, the ubuntu load screen showed and progress got nearly done then a message shows:
"(initramfs) mount: mounting /dev/loop0 on //filesystem.squashfs failed: input/output error.
Can not mount /dev/loop0 (cdrom/casperfilesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.squashfs."
EDIT: I did have a 9.1 disc somewhere that did work OK before now (but lost is )
I'm having troubles installing ubuntu on my "Acer one 522" netbook, I have made a pendrive with unetbootin and ubuntu 11.04 natty and upon booting into the usb i get the boot loader displayed properly, start to load ubuntu, then about halfway through i get some screen tearing with a really small shot of the boot loader screen in the top left hand corner followed by some command lines saying "cannot mount /dev/loop0 :invalid argument".
The trouble I'm having is that when I load a bootable USB/CD of 64bit 10.10, I always get an error that looks a little like: "(initramfs) mount: mounting /dev/loop0 on //filesystem.squashfs failed: input/output error. Can not mount /dev/loop0 (cdrom/casperfilesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.squashfs." I've done some googling and I've noticed people have had the same problem. They say the alternate downloads could be the problem, or the CD, and that I should use the UNetbootin application. I guess I should start with describing my build:

I've tried:
1. Going to the DL page, DLing 64bit 10.10, and mounting the image to create a bootable CD (by the procedure offered on the DL page).
2. Using Unetbootin to create a bootable USB (this I did multiple tmes, with different versions: 10.10 64bit desktop, 10.04 64 bit desktop, and I'm about to try another DL except I forgot which one I'm using, but I'll find out in a bit )..........
xubuntu iso was downloaded with wget on Kubuntu, I did a md5sum checksum in terminal which passed, also K3b's check passed. K3b burned iso with no errors, I set speed at 4x. I made two coasters before getting this far but it still won't get past the BusyBox built-in shell prompt after choosing my language and staring at the xfce mouse for a minute:

Trying to install a newly downloaded DVD image of 11.04 this morning on my T410 LT (4 core/4GB). The image MD5'd okay, burnt it, stuck it in the drive, rebooted, asked me about install lang = english, select install ubuntu, get subject error and it falls into initramfs prompt.So, I put my 10.04 install CD in and guess what, it works!
I will repeat what I have already posted in the another forum, and I understand install is a difficult part of the system, but there is always some glitch or another just trying to start install with ubuntu. Once it runs, if it run, I normally see few other problems after that.
I upgraded 9.10 to 10.04 via the web. The program announced it would take several hours, and when I came back to check, computer was off (kids?). Anyway, machine boots and 10.04 starts, but then blinks a few times and goes to a prompt. What should I tell it?
I have a 10.04 disc too, but it won't run from that either (Cannot mount dev/loop0 on filesystem.squashfs failed). Same message when I tried to start a nearby Windows machine with it. Disc "verified" when I made it. What's with that?
my friend using XP and it was closed because he didnt activate it . he want to try Linux , i adviced him to use UBUNTU 10.10, but after we order the boot we got a loading screen for ubuntu then this error appeared

i change the cd to another one but an error was changed to :.............
So i insert the ubuntu 10.10 in the dvd and boot it. The menu comes up and i choose to install ubuntu. After that it shows some black screens and this error:

The disc aint scratched. I tried installing from Windows but i got another error.

I have had a dual boot on my system since first trying Ubuntu a few months ago.I had a few problems when i upgraded to 11.04 (mainly due to the new desktop Unity), but after some great help here, we had the old desktop running again.I have Windows running on my spare Computer in case i should need it for any reason, though can not think of one lol Now i am used to Ubuntu (from the using side, get lost in terminal etc so here i come if i need help) i decided i would totally commit my main computer to Ubuntu.I downloaded the latest iso from the Ubuntu site, and burnt it to CD, inserted in my main computer & rebooted. It goes past the first purple ubuntu page (hit a key to choose language & also get a selection Menu) then goes to black screen and i get:

I can't boot from LiveCD, it just gets to the console and informs me that squashFS mount failed for loop0. I don't want to go for full installation before I test it a bit.

After upgrading to Lucid 10.4, I find that after booting I can no-longer auto-mount any USB drive when they are plugged in. They simply doesn't appear on the desktop as they did. Swap my PATA drive back to the one with 9.10 still installed on it is well.However, if I have USB drives plugged in before boot, they appears on the desktop, but are not auto-mounted as previously. Also when I click on any drive icon for the first time there is no response. Try again (on any drive) an the devices will all auto-mount revealing their contents in the window that subsequently opens. Everything them seems fine. I can unmount and remount at my leisure with any number of devices.
I do not have the problem of root only access that others have mentioned. I have played with usbmount and pmount as others have suggested, to no avail. They have both been removed.I have the HAL installed as default, and have already ecked media_automount_open for Nautilus on the gconf-editor.Disabling the floppy in the BIOS has not effect and I do not use autologin option.With (say) two USB drives attached, whether the devices are recognised at boot or not after boot,lsusb reveals:

I have a Pc with 2 hard drive, yesterday I installed ubuntu lucid but I forgot to set a mount point (let's say /datas) during partitioning, and now I have the hard drive icon on my Desktop. I would like to set the mount point during boot, what I can I do? Insert a fstab line? If I do that, the desktop icon si still there, so, what does ubuntu do when I configure a mount point on a secon har drive during installation?!

The drive in question is SSD2, which I wanted to mount as an extended disk (non OS). I did upgrade my Ubuntu on 10.10 and had always a Dual-Boot with Win7. After the install of Ubuntu, my grub wouldn't work anymore. I could only boot into Ubuntu, but GRUB didn't even appear. I already tried but this brought only the installs for Ubuntu and GRUB didn't start. Afterwards I tried to recover my MBR with the help of my Win7 DVD, but this didn't work out too. Now I can't boot neither Ubuntu nor Win7 and have to run from the Live-CD. I also tried to fix it with but setup(hd0) only returned, Error 17: Cannot mount etc. What can I do? I need my Windows for work and I don't want to reinstall neither Ubuntu nor Win7. Output of fdisk -l gives:
It seems I've run into a bit of a problem. I recently upgraded to the latest kernel 2.6.32-24-generic (x86) but when I reboot into the new kernel and type in my password the system hangs, same when using a keyfile on the root file system.to give an outline of how the disks are setup.3 hard drives
I attach a picture of my future disk partitioning,as I thought it should be. As you can see, the first two partitions are 2 different windows installations. At the end of the disk, I have specified a partition as ext3 104855 MB (sda9) and swap 8192 MB (sda. What should the the mount point of sda9 be? Should I specify a partition for /, /boot, /home, /tmp, ...etc? Or it is ok to make mount point '/'?
I just got an Acer netbook Aspire One. I put the Ubuntu remix on it successfully, and was using it for several days without problems. Now all of a sudden when I turn on my computer I get a grub error message with a command prompt. I've tried following the direction to restore grub but I'm getting stuck right away on the command to mount my ubuntu partition. After I type "sudo mount /dev/sda4 /mnt", I keep getting the error message "mount: you must specify the filesystem type."
I am struggling with getting an sshfs mount mounted on system boot. I have a script that mounts the sshfs for "userA". When userA runs the script all is well - user A can access the remote filesystem, root user can't see it as expected. The basic command is: sshfs userA@remote host:/home/userA /home/userA/mountdir -p 21212 -o password_stdin < passwordfile. I can prepend the sshfs command in the script with su - userA -c and when I run this script logged in as root all is well, userA has access and all is well. If I then put this script in /etc/init.d and reference it properly in the rc. directories the mount doesn't happen. If I prepend the sshfs command with sudo, same thing. Logged in as root I can run the script and UserA has access. Run the script in /etc/init.d during startup and the mount doesn't happen. Echoing text to a log file shows that the script is being executed but no mount happens.
Whenever i execute command fdisk /dev/loop0 < file1 (file1 contains the commands used for fdisk),I get an error saying "unable to seek on /dev/loop0".The last line of file1 contains w in order to write the partition table back to the disc. How should I exit the command prompt safely (after saving all the settings) Below are the contents of the file
I've just got a new laptop with 4GB RAM available, in order to fully utilize the available memory I'm going to install Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 64bit, but when I boot with Live CD, I always get the following errors:

i have a inspiron 1520 laptop which is starting to slow down some so i thought linux would help because all i do is internet use, so i download it from another computer and mount it to a usb flash drive like the site says, (netbook remix latest version) then i put it in my laptop and it loads all the way and i press try and after about 10 minutes of loading it lets me try. so that was ok really slow but i thought id install it to hard drive to see if it improved speed. so the next time i start my laptop i get Buffer i/o error on device loop0 logical block xxxxxx so i redo the usbflashdrive no errors switch usb ports and same thing, ive done the switch usb ports and redo the flash drive about 4 times im really getting mad at linux before i even have it installed.
I know there are already a lot of these posted. I've been reading them. The solutions posted have not worked for me. Well, OK, I haven't tried the 'reinstall GRUB 2' nuclear option. But, really. Like most, what I have is a computer (netbook really) running Win7 starter that I have installed Kubuntu 10.10 32 bit in a partition (sda7). Unlike most of the other complainants, GRUB shows me the Win7 partition just fine. Everything works. So, all I really want to do is (1) give me more than 10 seconds to respond to the GRUB menu and (2) perhaps change from default Kubuntu to Default Windows. Actually, one of the edit entries I found indicated that GRUB should be able to remember which I booted to last and default to that, which would be kind of nice. Or even set the timeout to -1 so it always waits for me.
Anyhow, since I cannot get sudo update-grub to work, all of this is moot. Everything seems to work until the end of the script where I get the dreaded "OS-prober: cannot access /var/lib/os-prober/mount/boot" message and GRUB's operation doesn't change. So, the reason I'm posting is that every other thread I've read devolves into people saying that the SYSTEM partition has two folders /boot and /Boot and get rid of the /boot. And this seems to work for many people ... but ... in my SYSTEM partition (sda2, the 100MB windows boot partition) there is only /Boot. There is not, I repeat and emphasize NOT a /boot folder. Yes, I'm looking at it with administrator privileges. I use Krusader - root mode and show hidden files is turned on. Yes, I installed BURG. It works fine but doesn't help my issues (although the brightly colored boot screen does catch my attention faster). And I had the OS-prober problem before BURG.
I'm new to this forum. I have installed Ubuntu on my prior laptop (WITH CD Drive). I currently have an ASUS Eee PC (NO CD DRIVE), using an external cd drive.

I've just bought a HP mini compaq laptop. The laptop doesn't have any CD/DVD "reader". So i was forced to download the .iso file to install ubuntu in addition to Windows XP that was present when i bought it. To do so i used UNetbootin, and i used my only hard disk as a live CD. But when i wanted to install ubuntu, they told me to create a partition. The problem is that i can't. I have only one partition sda1(nfst) which covers the whole stockage memory, and an empty space(8Mo). I can't acceed to any of the resizing or modifying options to edit the nfst partition. The only options are manage flags and umount. When i click on this one, they tell me : # umount /cdrom : cdrom is busy.
I started installing the beta of Maverick a few days ago, but the update server was running inordinately slow, so I canceled it. Several times, I have attempted to continue the installation, but I've been unable to reach the server. Shortly after this happened, I could no longer boot normally--I get the error:
Code: Kernel Panic - not syncing:VFS:Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0) Choosing the previous kernel fixes the problem.
So, I obviously want to upgrade to the release version now. When I open the update manager, I get asked if I want to do a partial upgrade to complete the install. I'm a bit leery of doing this since I only have one previous kernel to go back to (my list got really long and I have another operating system entry underneath, so I set my automagic boot manager to only keep two), and if I can no longer boot after the upgrade, I'll have to use Windows until it gets fixed... So, should I finish the upgrade, try to troubleshoot the error, or do something else to jump right to the latest release, after being partway through the upgrade?
I have a vista machine I recently put FC10 on. Through the course of figuring out wireless drivers, I goofed it enough that I was told to simply reinstall linux. I had the fedora GRUB file set as I wanted. But after I re-installed FC10 it would just hang after it searched for bootable CDs and stuff. I got the super grub CD and am able to boot into windows no issue. HOWEVER, when I select the fedora option, I get
"Error 17: Cannot mount selected partition"
I assume this means the grub doesn't know where my Linux boot stuff is. I have a separate drive dedicated to the linux install. The Vista drive is where the MBR is. So... how do I tell the grub where the FC10 install is? I've tried to reinstall FC10 twice hoping I just goofed something. edit: The standard grub file was in /boot/grub or something. Is there a file I can edit to point in the right direction?
