Ubuntu Installation :: Cannot Mount /dev/loop0 Clean Install 11.04 I386

Apr 29, 2011

Trying to install a newly downloaded DVD image of 11.04 this morning on my T410 LT (4 core/4GB). The image MD5'd okay, burnt it, stuck it in the drive, rebooted, asked me about install lang = english, select install ubuntu, get subject error and it falls into initramfs prompt. So, I put my 10.04 install CD in and guess what, it works!

I will repeat what I have already posted in the another forum, and I understand install is a difficult part of the system, but there is always some glitch or another just trying to start install with ubuntu. Once it runs, if it run, I normally see few other problems after that.

Ubuntu Installation :: Cannot Install 11.04 ErrorCan Not Mount /dev/loop0 (/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs?

May 7, 2011

I have had a dual boot on my system since first trying Ubuntu a few months ago.I had a few problems when i upgraded to 11.04 (mainly due to the new desktop Unity), but after some great help here, we had the old desktop running again.I have Windows running on my spare Computer in case i should need it for any reason, though can not think of one lol Now i am used to Ubuntu (from the using side, get lost in terminal etc so here i come if i need help) i decided i would totally commit my main computer to Ubuntu.I downloaded the latest iso from the Ubuntu site, and burnt it to CD, inserted in my main computer & rebooted. It goes past the first purple ubuntu page (hit a key to choose language & also get a selection Menu) then goes to black screen and i get:

BusyBox v1.17.1 (ubuntu 1:1.17.1-10ubuntu1) built-in shell (ash)Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.(initramfs) mount: mounting /dev/loop0 on //silesystem.squashfs failed: Input/output errorCan not mount /dev/loop0 (/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.squashfs(hope i typed that i correctly)I have burnt the iso image numerous times, using different disks, speed (from x4 - x52) and burning programs

Ubuntu Installation :: Can't Mount Dev Loop0 - Always Getting Input / Output Error

Jan 17, 2011

The trouble I'm having is that when I load a bootable USB/CD of 64bit 10.10, I always get an error that looks a little like: "(initramfs) mount: mounting /dev/loop0 on //filesystem.squashfs failed: input/output error. Can not mount /dev/loop0 (cdrom/casperfilesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.squashfs." I've done some googling and I've noticed people have had the same problem. They say the alternate downloads could be the problem, or the CD, and that I should use the UNetbootin application. I guess I should start with describing my build:

[code]....

I've tried:

1. Going to the DL page, DLing 64bit 10.10, and mounting the image to create a bootable CD (by the procedure offered on the DL page).

2. Using Unetbootin to create a bootable USB (this I did multiple tmes, with different versions: 10.10 64bit desktop, 10.04 64 bit desktop, and I'm about to try another DL except I forgot which one I'm using, but I'll find out in a bit )..........

Ubuntu Installation :: Live CD Cannot Mount /dev/loop0 On //filesystem.squashfs?

Mar 14, 2011

xubuntu iso was downloaded with wget on Kubuntu, I did a md5sum checksum in terminal which passed, also K3b's check passed. K3b burned iso with no errors, I set speed at 4x. I made two coasters before getting this far but it still won't get past the BusyBox built-in shell prompt after choosing my language and staring at the xfce mouse for a minute:

Code:
BusyBox v15.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.15.3-1ubuntu5) built-in shell (ash)
(initramfs) Can not mount /dev/loop0 (/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.squashfs
is what I get when trying to boot live cd on both my Linux PC and Windows XP box.

Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrade 10.04 - (Cannot Mount Dev / Loop0 On Filesystem.squashfs Failed)

Sep 9, 2010

I upgraded 9.10 to 10.04 via the web. The program announced it would take several hours, and when I came back to check, computer was off (kids?). Anyway, machine boots and 10.04 starts, but then blinks a few times and goes to a prompt. What should I tell it?

I have a 10.04 disc too, but it won't run from that either (Cannot mount dev/loop0 on filesystem.squashfs failed). Same message when I tried to start a nearby Windows machine with it. Disc "verified" when I made it. What's with that?

Ubuntu :: Clean Install Of 11.04 Won't Mount Home Folder

May 2, 2011

I had my home folder on it's own partition, and I decided to do a clean install of 11.04. when I put the disk, when I went to configure the partitions, I I re-formatted the / partition, and I selected my home partition as my new home partition and I made sure the format was NOT selected. after everything got done getting installed and rebooted. 11.04 just creates a new home directory and does not use the whole home partition.

I still have my data saved on it, when I go to the disk utility it shows the same amount of used space before I did a re-installed. If I go to the files system and click on home it shows my user from the last install and it shows the user from the new install. when I click on the user from last install it shows 2 files: Access-Your-Private-Data.desktop
and: README.txt

get my home partition mounted for my home folder

also when I set up the new install I used the same password for access for the ring keys and for login

Fedora Installation :: FC10 I386 - How Many CDs - Of 6 - Required For Min. Install

I would like to try out fc10 on an old, k6-2 pc. Last night I tried to download the dvd, but firefox 'completed' the download with only 1.2/~3xg, and of course it didn't work.

I am trying a test net installation in VirtualBox, so far so good.

However, I would rather have a more complete installation on hand and I'm looking at the full install cd's --there are 6 of them.

[url]

Are all 6 required for a minimal install, or could I get by with one (or two, etc)? For example, with debian installation cds you can use just the first one -- the rest are just a complete set of packages for everything +kitchen sink.

Ubuntu Installation :: Clean Install Of 11.04 Next To Win 7

Jun 15, 2011

So I've been trying to install 11.04 x64 on the same drive as Windows 7. The install seemed to go fine until it tried to install grub over the Windows 7 bootloader. My first try at this, I just told it to try again, and it seemed to install fine. It then rebooted and came up with the grub bootloader as expected. However, when it attempted to boot into 11.04, it gives me an error that says "unknown filesystem". It does however boot into Windows 7 fine. While I was writing this up, I went into my BIOS to make sure that my SSD was set to be the primary boot drive and it was not. Changed the SSD to primary boot priority and away it went.

For some reason, with the my other hard drive as the primary boot drive, it wouldn't boot to Ubuntu, but would behave just fine when going into Windows. Very strange behavior. I rebooted the computer again to make sure that the boot priorities fixed the problem and the default background came up halfway, like a corrupted .jpg file, so I forced a shutdown. Now I'm back to what I started with. I've been rebooting to see if I can reproduce the good startup, but to no avail. Also, when grub is loaded, it either gives me a purple or black background. Is this normal? It seems to alternate randomly.

TL;DR
I get one of three errors when trying to boot into 11.04 from a clean install next to a fresh Windows 7 install.
"error: unknown filesystem"
"error: hd1 out of disk"
"error: you need to load the kernel first"
I also see a kernel panic every now and again.

I've got a bootable flash drive with 11.04 on it and that's what I've been trying to install from. I've been looking more into this issue, and from what I've uncovered in the forums is that the new grub bootloader that comes with Natty has some issues. I found the procedure for a downgrade of grub to the Maverick version, but I have not come across a 64-bit procedure. This downgrade has worked from what I've read so far.

General :: Cannot Detect Or Mount Cd-rom On Ubuntu (server) 6.06.1 I386?

Nov 22, 2010

So I am trying to install ubuntu server on to a sony vaio laptop (long story in and of itself) I have a few questions the first and most important being this: 1. What is the module and /dev/ I am supposed to use to get it to recognize the drive? It kind of dumb because it can't read the drive that it's installing from ya'know? The drive is a sony nec optiarc AD-7560S the vaio is a VGN-NS110E all stock equip except the hardrive.

2. Keeping in mind that I may..probably will move the hdd to a netbook what are ALL the module I will need to finish the install and how do I add them in (can I use a usb or do I have to re-burn the iso)

3. What do I need to do to get the built in remote desktop to run once the install is done and most of the software is taken care of. Also I need to be able to install stuff from the remote computer and said remote computer may be holding the program. I am also looking into rdc-ing from my andriod (tmobile g1)

Debian Installation :: 7.7 I386 Install On HP P440ar Storage Array

Mar 18, 2015

I am having problems installing Debian 7.7 i386 on the newest HP DL380 GEN9 server with P440ar storage array. The disk detection during installation fails to detect the array.

I have pinpointed the problem to hpsa.ko driver to be outdated as I need a minimum version from September 2014. I have already tried following the guide on " [URL]" but the driver compiling from sources fails (guide is from 2012).

Here is where I got the latest sources: [URL]....

Is there any possible way to install this debian version with this storage array? Newer kernel version is really not an option for me.

Ubuntu Installation :: Partition Your HD On A Clean Install ?

Jan 7, 2010

I made an upgrade from Kubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 and this upgrade generated a series of permission problems.

Considering that I have an individual /home partition, I am planning to make a clean install of Karmic (9.10) on a laptop with a 230GB hard disk and 2GB RAM.

The actual hard disk is mounted the following way:

In total there are some 230GB of Hard Disk available.

The fat 32 partition was not a good idea, because I can't access it from the file manager, so I will dump this partition on my next installation.

Now my question: What partitions would you recommend to mount and what size would you give to each partition?

Ubuntu Installation :: Can't Boot Clean Install Of 9.10?

Feb 8, 2010

few months back I did a clean install of 9.10 from 9.04 (wanted to clear room so decided against upgrade path) and since then I've been really struggling to boot into it. I've used Ubuntu since 7.04 and never had any issues with it - these issues have only started happening since my upgrade to 9.10. And I was hoping that 9.10 would be the release I could persuade her indoors to not boot into Windows XP!

Anyway my problem is that when I choose Ubuntu 9.10 from the boot list it gets to the point where the Ubuntu symbol is splashed up (with the brown background and the light shining on it) and then the little progress bar underneath freezes and the whole box freezes. It doesn't respond to any keypresses like the "magic" ones and I have mashed CTRL ALT F1 plus others keys repeatedly. Caps lock doesn't respond either so looks like completely frozen, though worth noting that the hard drive still sounds like it's spinning.

I've tried with every boot command under the sun (noapci, nosplash, quiet, noapic etc.) and none of them make any difference bar two - apci=noirq starts the desktop occasionally but with no windows manager, and irqpoll stops the freeze but it never loads the desktop or manager. Both these last two commands work about 1 in 10 boots or so but usually it freezes. I can also sometimes press Escape as soon as the Ubuntu symbol shows on screen and sometimes (about 1 in 5 tries) it gets into the desktop, but only if I hit it before it freezes up. The above does point to an IRQ issue but wondering what has changed since 8.10 and 9.04 which worked perfectly?

I've also booted into recovery mode and updated/fixed packages but the same thing happens with the recent 2.6.31-19 generic as well as -17, -14 etc. As per above I'm dual booting with Windows XP as the default boot option (wife's orders) but don't think this is related.
