When playing a song, I am unable to manipulate the seek bar and skip to&fro, it's seems absolutely except for the fact the cursors (if that's the right word for it) glows, and it says "Jump to XXX" but it does nothing. This pretty much happens on any and every song, however if I play another track come back it may or may not work. Sometimes it works fine (usually not), but it'll freeze again after the track changes.

When I type fdisk -l into the terminal, I get "unable to seek on dev/sda". Does anyone know what this means?
I'm dual booting ubuntu 11.04 with windows 7 on a raid 0 array.
EDIT: It seems this fellow had a similar question back in 2008, that never got resolved: [URL]

I just fired up Rhythmbox and threw all my MP3s into it.. but whilst it plays files, the slider bar just refuses to move, so there is no way to seek through an mp3.
How can I fix this? It's kinda useless without seeking for me.. all those long mixes.

Several times and several machines the debian installer complained that it cannot find the DVD-ISO image when my installation via usb and hdd ways)(i.e. Have the installer to seek iso image in usb flash or from hard disk). How does the installer seek the ISO? I'd like to know why sometimes it would fail to find that one(but they do exist) and sometimes the installer find it perfectly. Currently I am not able to read the source code of the installer.

Im running Fedora 11 x86_64. I enabled the rpmfusion repositories (free & non-free) and opened an MP3. The codecs installed correctly, but when I play them in either rhythmnox or totem, it plays but there are issues. Oddly, it depends on whether I ripped the mp3 myself (on Fedora 10, 196kbps CBR) or bought (play.com, 320kbps CBR).For the bought mp3s, the track length is displayed and the progress bar fills as the song progresses, but I cant skip to another part of the song. For the ripped mp3s, the player thinks it is streaming (track length unknown).
I thought it might be due to using ext4, but this happens even if i play them off an ext3 partition. The mp3s themselves are fine - they play perfectly in Ubuntu and WIndows.

I'm trying to troubleshoot a block seek error with a particular DVD (most DVDs work with my computer, just a random few that fail). The failure is (I presume) caused by incorrect information on the DVD itself to try to fool unlicensed players. I get a libdvdread error "Can't seek to block ...". I have traced this error message to three sources in dvd_reader.c. I have modified the error message so that it also prints the file name and the line, but I am having such a hell of a time trying to compile libdvdread. I have installed libdvdcss2-dev, and most of the other obvious development packages. However, the instructions for compiling lindvdread make no sense (I am assuming they want me to run the 'configure2' script here) and it is throwing up all kind of weird compiler errors. This can obviously be compiled somewhere for a binary package to exist. How this is done?

I like to autohide my panel. But for some reason, it won't show unless I mouse over one of the bottom corners of the screen. The whole bottom edge where the panel hides should summon it if I mouse over, and I have been able to do this before, but now, after a system update, it only appears when I mouse over those bottom two corners. Does anyone else get this, or know how to fix it?

Using Ubuntu 11.04, Totem (the default media player) is not able to seek (read: to forward or go back in time) whenever the file is read from a mounted ISO archive.
Whenever I extract individual media files from such an archive, the seek bar at the bottom works as it should. Thus, it can be ascertained that it is not the media files that are the source of the problem, here.
why that is doing so? Sounds like a bug, or what?

Some times I boot up, and udev has labelled what is usually eth0 as eth1. Of course, my rc.inet1.conf is configured for seeing internet at eth0, so no connection, quite obviously. Then I reboot and the device label is back to "eth0". Actually I'm still not able to get connected, even at eth0, despite my nameservers being OK, and the default route gateway being all OK. PS. I have a static ip address.

i have a inspiron 1520 laptop which is starting to slow down some so i thought linux would help because all i do is internet use, so i download it from another computer and mount it to a usb flash drive like the site says, (netbook remix latest version) then i put it in my laptop and it loads all the way and i press try and after about 10 minutes of loading it lets me try. so that was ok really slow but i thought id install it to hard drive to see if it improved speed. so the next time i start my laptop i get Buffer i/o error on device loop0 logical block xxxxxx so i redo the usbflashdrive no errors switch usb ports and same thing, ive done the switch usb ports and redo the flash drive about 4 times im really getting mad at linux before i even have it installed.

The trouble I'm having is that when I load a bootable USB/CD of 64bit 10.10, I always get an error that looks a little like: "(initramfs) mount: mounting /dev/loop0 on //filesystem.squashfs failed: input/output error. Can not mount /dev/loop0 (cdrom/casperfilesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.squashfs." I've done some googling and I've noticed people have had the same problem. They say the alternate downloads could be the problem, or the CD, and that I should use the UNetbootin application. I guess I should start with describing my build:
[code]....
I've tried:
1. Going to the DL page, DLing 64bit 10.10, and mounting the image to create a bootable CD (by the procedure offered on the DL page).
2. Using Unetbootin to create a bootable USB (this I did multiple tmes, with different versions: 10.10 64bit desktop, 10.04 64 bit desktop, and I'm about to try another DL except I forgot which one I'm using, but I'll find out in a bit )..........

xubuntu iso was downloaded with wget on Kubuntu, I did a md5sum checksum in terminal which passed, also K3b's check passed. K3b burned iso with no errors, I set speed at 4x. I made two coasters before getting this far but it still won't get past the BusyBox built-in shell prompt after choosing my language and staring at the xfce mouse for a minute:
Code:
BusyBox v15.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.15.3-1ubuntu5) built-in shell (ash)
(initramfs) Can not mount /dev/loop0 (/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.squashfs
is what I get when trying to boot live cd on both my Linux PC and Windows XP box.

Trying to install a newly downloaded DVD image of 11.04 this morning on my T410 LT (4 core/4GB). The image MD5'd okay, burnt it, stuck it in the drive, rebooted, asked me about install lang = english, select install ubuntu, get subject error and it falls into initramfs prompt. So, I put my 10.04 install CD in and guess what, it works!
I will repeat what I have already posted in the another forum, and I understand install is a difficult part of the system, but there is always some glitch or another just trying to start install with ubuntu. Once it runs, if it run, I normally see few other problems after that.

I upgraded 9.10 to 10.04 via the web. The program announced it would take several hours, and when I came back to check, computer was off (kids?). Anyway, machine boots and 10.04 starts, but then blinks a few times and goes to a prompt. What should I tell it?
I have a 10.04 disc too, but it won't run from that either (Cannot mount dev/loop0 on filesystem.squashfs failed). Same message when I tried to start a nearby Windows machine with it. Disc "verified" when I made it. What's with that?

I have had a dual boot on my system since first trying Ubuntu a few months ago.I had a few problems when i upgraded to 11.04 (mainly due to the new desktop Unity), but after some great help here, we had the old desktop running again.I have Windows running on my spare Computer in case i should need it for any reason, though can not think of one lol Now i am used to Ubuntu (from the using side, get lost in terminal etc so here i come if i need help) i decided i would totally commit my main computer to Ubuntu.I downloaded the latest iso from the Ubuntu site, and burnt it to CD, inserted in my main computer & rebooted. It goes past the first purple ubuntu page (hit a key to choose language & also get a selection Menu) then goes to black screen and i get:
BusyBox v1.17.1 (ubuntu 1:1.17.1-10ubuntu1) built-in shell (ash)Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.(initramfs) mount: mounting /dev/loop0 on //silesystem.squashfs failed: Input/output errorCan not mount /dev/loop0 (/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.squashfs(hope i typed that i correctly)I have burnt the iso image numerous times, using different disks, speed (from x4 - x52) and burning programs

I couldn't connect my Micromax 300G modem in Debian Linux. From internet (in Windows Vista), I came across the information of USB_ModeSwitch and then I downloaded it. While going to install it, I came across the problem that TCL-interpreter is not available in Debian Linux. Then again I restarted my laptop in Windows Vista and connected my Micromax modem and from internet downloaded TCL8.5.10-src.tar.gz. But while going to install it, I came across the problem that " configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH " . Also as presently, I am unable to connect my modem therefore I am unable to issue the code:" apt-get update ".
