I recently installed FC11 on my Toshiba L500 laptop. After installtion linux is not detecting wireless adaptor. I believe toshiba L500 has realtek RTL8191SE CAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC adaptor.
I have just installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my brother's Toshiba Satellite Pro L500 and have spent all day trying to get the wireless to work.
the laptop does not have a physical wifi-switch (it should switch on-off with Fn+F8, which doesn't work), the drivers seem to be installed, but I cannot 'enable wireless', and I found that it is 'Hard blocked':
sudo rfkill list all :
0: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes but 'rfkill unblock all' does nothing.
Just bought this toshiba laptop m645-s4114 today @ bestbuy and I installed the ubuntu 11.04 successfully erasing the MS OS on it but later realized my wireless network doesn't work.
Capitols v and m not working properly! Toshiba laptop. So far I'm v happy with Ubuntu, works really well! However, I have a madening problem: when typing I cannot use the right hand Shift key with either or if I do, the v looks like $V, and the capitol m ends up giving me a pulldown menu. I assume this is not common to Ubuntu, but maybe it is?
I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 onto a Toshiba L30-10W. The built-in speakers work and the headphone jack work, but I can't get the microphone jack to work. I've tried all of the ALSA options (e.g.- options snd-hda-intel model=laptop), but none of them work.
I bought a Toshiba T135D-S1324 two days ago, and the only thing I can't get to work is for the internal speakers to automatically mute when headphones are plugged in. (Ubuntu 9.10 for AMD64 by the way.)
I have tried to add "options snd-hda-intel model=laptop probe_mask=1" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf but that didn't work.
The jack detection box is not available under sound preferences. Alsamixer only shows PCM and Master.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A660 laptop with Ubuntu 10.04. I am sure that the internal microphone works because when I reboot into Windows it works fine. It does not work in Ubuntu instead. I tried three things:
1) Action: I checked all the volumes, made sure that the microphone is not muted and selected the proper device as "Analog Stereo Duplex". Result: no improvements.
2) Action: I installed PulseAudio to better manage the volumes. Result: no improvements.
3) Action: in the Terminal, I executed the line " sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf " and then added the line " options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba " at the bottom of the page that opened. I saved, closed and rebooted. Result: no improvements.
I executed in the Terminal the command " wget [URL]. The link to where data were uploaded is [URL].
I have a toshiba m305d satelite laptop i installed ubuntu karmic 9.10 and evrything seems to be working fine including wireless and ethernet which was not working previously .. but now with alsa my mic was not working and hence i uninstalled alsa and installes oss4 as was directed by other forums .. however with alsa my sound was working in skype but now nothing seems to work .. i am getting error as "problem with audio playback" i am using skype 2.0 as 2.1 was said to be not compatible with oss4 also the sounds in my pdgin im client is not working ..
here is my component information code...
i have tried checking mic using ossrecord but dint get ne output.. i also tried sound recorder which also dint work with both alsa and oss4
now the thing is with oss4 even the speakers are not working for some applications like pdgin and skype which was working with alsa
So, help me through getting my audio working properly on my Toshiba Satellite A105-S2081 Laptop. I think I've been through most of the help messages and tried many things to get it working correctly. The ONLY thing that has helped is to go to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and change model=auto to model=generic. (options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_controller=N model=generic)
I've tried model=toshiba, model=auto, model=lenovo, model=3stack, model=dallas and the laptops internal sound device disappears from the list of sound devices. If I plug in my Logitech Headset, it seems to work fine.It also seems to work fine if I boot it up into XP SP3.It does work now generally with model=generic, but not sure that everything works properly, like the headset & microphone jack. (Actually the reason I have the Logitech Headset is because the headset jack doesn't work).
My wife's nebook has Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS (kernel 2.6.32-33-generic i686), and is using the linux driver for Realtek RTL819x wifi cards. I installed the driver ages ago with:
Let me preface this by stating that I am a very new Linux user (newb) so I could be missing something very obvious. I have a Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4056 and recently installed Fedora 14 (64-bit GNOME) with all sorts of updates and software. I'm working my way through all of the hardware to get it all running properly. I figured out how to get the RealTek wireless-n adapter working.
The webcam is working even with Skype which is tricky on the 64-bit version. At the moment, my touchpad doesn't work. I see a lot of articles online about the touchpad not double-tapping, but mine doesn't work at all. I've been using a mouse for all my GUI stuff. I went to SYSTEM --> PREFERENCES --> MOUSE and selected the touchpad tab, but I can't figure out how to make it work.
I have problems getting my microphone to work. When I try to record something I just get noise.
The following it he output from /usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh script: HTML Code: upload=true&script=true&cardinfo= !!################################ !!ALSA Information Script v 0.4.58 !!################################ !!Script ran on: Tue Dec 15 10:09:53 UTC 2009 .....
I've this issue where my audio on the laptop which is toshiba satelite p100 doesn't work after i installed fedora 12. I installed vlc media player but still can't get audio working!! For general info my audio driver is: Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)
I'm looking to buy a new webcam to use under karmic/lucid, but I'm not sure which one is best. I've taken a look at the list of supported web cameras, but I was hoping for some recommendations. The cheaper the better
I have a crappy usb UVC webcam (iCan brand), but I don't really know how to get it working? Do I need to install any drivers? What software would I use to get it to work? Do I need to enable anything? It doesn't seem to be showing video if I open skype, although it does detect that I have something on /dev/video0, and lsusb gives:Bus 001 Device 007: ID 0ac8:332d Z-Star Microelectronics Corp. Vega USB 2.0 Camera
I installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS one week ago without any problems on my Packard Bell EasyNote MX67-P-023 notebook.
Everything works fine except my webcam "USB 2.0 Camera"
lsusb: Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0402:5602 ALi Corp. Video Camera Controller
In programs like aMsn, Emesene, or Cheese it's recognized as "USB 2.0 Camera"
For example(I'm translating menus from italian) in aMSN->preferences->Other->Audio Video: - select device box: "v4l2: USB 2.0 Camera" - select channel box:" ALi m5602" - and in the video box where image should appear: "unable capture from device"
In the other programs it shows a completely blank screen, or sometimes a blank screen with some strange uncomprensible white-grey stripes.
Yesterday i installed UBUNTU Linux to my laptop, but my webcamera and mic not working in UBUNTU.I checked sound settings, is all unmute. I downloaded GNOME Alsa MIxer, PulseAudio etc but nothing happened..I read other topics, someone said to type that commands (may be helpful to understand any problem i have -?-) "cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec"--> Codec: Realtek ALC275"cat /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base" --> cat /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base: No such file or directory
I have been searching the web for a solution to a couple of problemsm having with hardware, I am Unable to get the fan or wireless working on my Toshiba U505 S2950 Laptop. I am new to using OpenSuse but I have used Ubuntu and other distros. I have not been able to solve these issues yet and I have tried several things that I have found on various forums

Okay, I've got a small webcam for my laptop that doesn't come with Linux drivers, only Windows drivers. Any linux-based drivers that came with Ubuntu 9.04 that might work don't. How do I make the Windows drivers for the webcam work with the hardware so I can use the webcam?
I'm a proud user of ubuntu 9.10 and have used it pretty much..
i have found this great alternative to msn messenger.. which i called emesene .1.6
but my webcam isn't working.. it do in Amsn, but im not satisfied with that program.. what happens? when i click the show webcam icon, and the other user accepts.. a black box is coming up, and nothing happens from here,, i have libmimic installed but still not function...
when i installed it, it was work but today after a gap of some days when i open the application the webcam light is on but no video/output is shown in the application when i take a picture it takes it 3-2-1 and then the take a photo button also get deactivated...so how to fix it
Using Ubuntu 10.10 1. My old webcam A4 tech model PK-365M used to work in ubuntu 10.4 all I had to do was make a script that LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/skype however that won't work now in 10.10
i recently installed guvcview on xubuntu and the window just shows up as a black screen with nothing and according to the uvc website my Logitech QuickCam Communicate Deluxe is supported by linux when i start up guvc the webcam's light turns on so i think its working
I installed skype today and was in the middle of a web convo, and then skype crashed. Since then, my cam has not worked at all. I've tried Cheese, camorama, guvcview, and none of them are working. They all display "device not found".
I installed the 64 bit version of 10.04. I downloaded Skype and it works fine, but it doesn't see my built in webcam under 'options'. The monitor is a ThinkVision 2251x.
